"I had read rave reviews and perhaps was expecting more, but I think in general in the Kihei area in Maui (and other parts of Maui), food seems somewhat overpriced for what you get. The Stella Blues menu has a basic price for many of the entrees to which you can add toppings, etc. on for more money. It made it feel more pricey that way. The selection of food at Stella Blues was average, and we opted for two of the more reasonably-priced entrees. My husband's Hawaiian pizza was good. The kiddie meal burger was a bit dry. I ordered a burger and was a little disappointed because it came underdone and was sent back only to be overdone and not as tasty as expected. The ambiance is comfortable and casual but not particularly charming."

"Stella Blues is a very nice restaurant. To eat inside would be far too noisy for me and especially for my husband, who is very hard of hearing. To dine on the patio is much quieter and very pleasant. The staff are charming.

"We like the ethic a lot, and the food (some of it) is very good indeed. The perfectly fried coconut shrimp would have been masterful, but the shrimp themselves were only so so (the frying as good as any we've ever had). After the shrimp it came as a surprise that the fries are good but not great. Similarly the milkshakes were not made with ice cream, which doesn't seem to fit. The burgers were perfectly cooked. The buns are far too sweet, a cloying counterpoint to the perfect burgers. Tomatoes served with the burgers were inconsistent; some were mealy. Salads were terrific. The service was very good. Servers need not introduce themselves. This is a restaurant with promise and a mission, but it has yet to realize it fully"

"We had one evening meal off the general menu and then went to the special Valentines dinner and entertainment. On both ocassions we found the staff very friendly and helpful in ther suggestions as far as choices. We found the prices ver good.

As we booked this from Winnipeg in Canada , corresponding with Kale was a pleasant experience, he made us feel confident with our booking for the Valentine evening. Also we were very impresses with the entertainment."

"Excellent food, lots of choices, comfort food, fresh fish, you name it. Relaxed casual atmosphere. I've been a customer at Stella blues since they opened I think almost 20 years ago. The salads are excellent. The home made mango papaya vinegarette is outstanding. The classic chicken salad, Caesar salad, spinach salad with Mac nuts and blue cheese, just delicious. My favorite guilty pleasure is Stellas is the Li Hing Mui margarita. There is no place on Maui that makes them as good. the shrimp stir fry was great last night. I'm sure I'll be back or lunch this week. Don't miss out on Stella Blues, it's a gem!"

"Stella is the only restaurant we visited twice in our 10 days on Maui. I had to make a second trip to try the ribs which were 86'd on the first visit. Seated promptly with a cheerful attentive waitress. The dishes are generous in portion and tasty. If you want fancy prep with dots and swirls of colorful viscous liquid, go elsewhere. Live music and some stragglers from a Greatful Dead convention added to people watching fun. The smoked Marlin was killer as usual and the ribs good, tender but a little over sauced. A friend had jambalya which was excellent and she couldn't finish. If you want fancy torch-lit views of the beach don't come here. If you want generous portions of comfort food (their term) then this is the place! BonAppetit"
