Stella Barra, an artisanal pizzeria highlighting Chef Jeff Mahin's knack for baking and utilizing fresh farmers market ingredients, located on Halsted and Armitage in the heart of Lincoln Park. In addition to Mahin’s signature pizzas, the menu boasts a selection of small plates and fresh salads as well as house made pastas and seasonal roasted vegetables. On the way out we grabbed a few cookies from Summer House, but next time I'd skip them and get the Butterscotch dessert at the table at Barra, I had a bite of one my friend had and it was awesome!"

  • "A friend and I went to check out the pizza and had some beers. We enjoyed the pepperoni pizza and different types of beers. Pizzas are 1 size. The cookies available in the entrance are awesome! Casual atmosphere and seating available in the back patio. We went on a Monday, so it was not too crowded."

  • "Food: not that much selection. Would be nice if they had some pasta. The pizza was great for the price! The dough was tasty. Ambiance: I'm not liking the mismatched chair on the patio. The chairs were uncomfortable. The inside chairs look better. So not a lettuce typical restaurant...I tried asking the waitstaff to change seats to the padded booths but amidst the empty booths, we were refused. I'm guessing it's a waitstaff issue, like another server is assigned to those seats. Waitstaff: somewhat inexperienced. My friend got soaked (pants and shirt)w olive oil as a waitstaff was trying to clear our table. We were given wipes. We joked : he was "anointed". Otherwise,Service was fast. Drinks reasonably priced. Kids are welcome too!"

  • "I have been looking for gluten free pizza and found my spot! First time for us at Stella Barra and we were very happy. I got 1/2 goat cheese/prosciutto with red sauce and 1/2 mushroom with white sauce. Both were great although I preferred the goat cheese. My husband got spinach - 1/2 with red sauce and 1/2 with white sauce. We both enjoyed our pizza very much and already have a reservation in less than 2 weeks. Very crowded - get a reservation if you don't want to wait."

  • "Dinner in the outdoor patio was very pleasant. The salad and pizza were outstanding. We also ordered a single portion of olives, which could easily have served ten people. We had the goat cheese and bacon pizza with a thin crust, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. Service was friendly and prompt, actually, to a fault - the pizza arrived prematurely, while we were still eating the salad, and before we could even make a dent in the huge plate of olives. I think next time we'll wait until the salad is served before ordering the pizza."

  • "Pros were that it was a trendy, hot spot and the food was pretty good. We had been wanting to try this place for a while. Cons were that the pizza was very greasy and the service was just okay. Our waiter was happy and nice, however, he didn't tell us that you could do pizza as half one kind and half another and our app never came out..we had to ask where it was as our pizza was being delivered. Also, I ordered a sauv blanc glass of wine and was told it was the last glass in the place. At least she gave it to us for free!"

  • "The menu is not huge but the food was very tasty. Lighter appetites can share a delicious appetizer and one flatbread or salad and be satisfied and have a nice variety of dishes. Noise level at bar and middle tables was a little high but not overly difficult to manage."

  • "Great pizza, with a variety of options. The kale salad is very good, as is the grilled artichoke pizza. The only downside is the drink prices - $8 for a pint of beer that costs $5 or $6 a couple doors down. The pizza is good, a little pricy, but unique enough to validate the prices, but the beer price is steep, which means I only get one."

  • "I love the food at Stella Barra! I like that you can request to make your pizza extra thin and crispy - "Thin Sin." It's definitely has a great ambiance and a great place to go on a date or with a group of friends. However, the last few times we've been the service hasn't been very good. We understand that they say that the food/pizza is supposed to come out as it is prepared but we will order appetizers/salads and they have forgotten to bring them out the last few times."

  • "We had reservations for 6 people, but had to wait better than 30 minutes more to get seated. We were all fairly grumpy by that point. The manager came out to apologize and offered appetizers (which were later comped); we were seated shortly there after. From that point on, things took a big turn. The appetizers, including the bread with WONDERFUL olive oil and balsamic; then the meatballs, which were the best I've had in years; and the topper was the goat cheese with toast. Everything was fantastic. Subtle, complex flavors. We had three pizzas--I would recommend the thin crust. All very tasty. We will return when we visit Chicago again. A restaurant of this quality should be given a second chance. GOOD Recovery by the staff!"

  • "The ambiance and food was great, but our service was less than "stella". Our waitress screwed up my friends very easy breakfast sandwich twice, and didn't offer any sort of apology or guilt - the least she could have done was comp our prosecco! Then, I was served my food and because I waited for my friend to get her meal (twice) I was left with cold eggs and cold carrots. She didn't even offer to take my meal back to keep warm. It was quite odd. I'd definitely recommend to friends and go back but I hope the service is better next time."

The servers drift away as you're speaking to them. They appear blasé waiting on patrons. We've given it a go twice now, and have opted to take our business elsewhere."

  • "Real good pizza, service was excellent. Our server was friendly and outgoing and the right amount of attentiveness. Pizzas were all real good. Was told the butternut squash pizza was spicy but excellent. The sausage was very good but thought the prosciutto and egg pizza stole the show. Highly enjoyable amd would do just that next time. Felt the pricing to also be very fair with what you got. I was a bit worried after hearing mixed things about food/service at Summer House, but was completely satisfied with the entire service."

  • "We went on a Tuesday evening with a group of five. It was in my top three worst service experiences. Our drinks (2 specialty cocktails, a glass of wine and 2 vodka drinks) took over 20 minutes to make it to our table and my vodka rocks drink was served to me as a martini up, no rocks. We were told the pizzas take about 25 minutes. An hour and twenty minutes later our pizza had still not arrived. When we inquired with our server who was not often around, we were told, "it's coming." We asked if the gluten free takes longer, to which he responded, "yes, they have to take the gluten out." We had the burrata appetizer which was fine and the calamari which was pretty standard. The meatballs were decent but could have been warmer when served."

  • "Don't offer brunch if you REALLY don't want to serve brunch! The menu options are non existent and what is offered is poorly executed. Servers don't seem to want to be there for brunch and REALLY don't know anything about the food and food times. We ordered the Chilaquiles Pizza, the Venice Beach Pizza and the French Toast pizza. My wife asked for a side of scrambled eggs and was suggested that she have a side of bread instead. Although she did get the eggs. We were told the French toast pizza would be a perfect appetizer because it would come out quick, well, after 25 min of not receiving any food the Chilaquiles Pizza came out. The French Toast followed at the 35min mark and it was burnt beyond recognition. IwishIhadmorecharacters!"

  • "We were fortunate enough to get an outdoor table and loved it. It's more intimate and quieter than inside. Food is really good. Try the kale and date salad (big enough to share as if you're getting pizza). Two choices of thin crust, if you like the really thin cracker type crust (I do), it was great. I got prosciutto & egg (like a ham & egg pizza). It was unusual, but really tasty as long as you don't mind a runny yolk. We also got a traditional pepperoni which my husband loved. Definitely will return."

  • "Overall, I thought the restaurant was good, not great. I heard really great reviews about the food, but I thought it was just alright. I was a little disappointed with the calamari as it was kind of chewy and the sauce wasn't great. The calamari is amazing at Summer House, so I thought it would be good here too but it wasn't. It also took us a while to get our waitress and had to ask her if we could order."

  • "Like most LEYE restaurants, this is a good choice for a good meal. We went for Brunch and it was great. We sat on the patio and highly recommend that option; as the restaurant itself is too dark for Brunch. We ordered the waffle, the green eggs and ham, the calamari and one breakfast pizza for the table. All were nicely prepared. The service was good but not great, I had to follow up to get our water glasses refilled, they brought some food first and for a while I wondered if they forgot part of the order; more proactive information (like: your waffle will be out in a couple of minutes) would have been advisable. The prices are reasonable. We will definitively go back."

  • "I loved the place . We wanted to try something new . The Brussel sprouts , salads , flatbread pizza with pork and garlic , the mushroom pizza were simply divine . The wine list is mediocre . Kids galore At 6pm which was the only time we could get in . The service is adequate . First the hostess tried to seat us at a table top at the back close to the kitchen - the absolutely worse place when other tables were available and did accommodate my request for a more civilized area . Service is slow but food was great. "

  • "Stella Barra is a great addition to the Chicago dining scene. We just celebrated our daughter's graduation there. Seems funny to celebrate such a noble event at a pizzeria, but this is an exceptional restaurant. Food -- we had the shaved mushroom and the fennel pizzas. Delicious. We also had the meatballs, the brussel sprouts and the kale salad. All incredible. I don't want the restaurant to become overly overly hot -- but it's delicious!"
