Diner Reviews
  • "A little more cheese on pizza would be better. I did still enjoy the food and the service was great. a bit pricey."

  • "Heard a lot of good things about Stella Barra and was not disappointed. We managed to score a table on the charming back patio and loved everything we tried. The pizzas are exceptional and the burrata appetizer with grilled grapes recommended by the server did not disappoint. They even let you go half and half on a pizza so you can try two different types. Great cocktails (the large bar area at the front is very appealing), interesting wine list, and the excellent service that you expect from a LYE restaurant all made for a delightful evening. Can't wait to try Summer House next door now."

  • "I had a great time at Stella Barra. I brunched there with an omelet, coffee, and some amazing brussell sprouts. The sprouts were so good looking that someone walked by the table as they were departing and said, looks like I'm coming back here."

  • "Love this place - great food, great vibe and good prices. They even got us in a bit before our reservation time. I moved out here from LA so used to go to the one there often, and this one almost feels like you're in LA too. Def will go back."

  • "Had an 8:00 reservation on a Tuesday night. Was happy to see the place was packed, but not so happy with the noise level. Anything more than a party of 4 is going to be challenging. It's not just the people, but they seem to have the music up awfully loud. But, overall made for an energetic vibe that is much preferred to dead on a Tues night. We attempted to start with 2 Allegash beers, which they were out of. Onto an app - LOVED the burrata with grilled red grapes. The grapes were amazing - smokey on the outside and sweet when you bite into them! We split the bacon & goat cheese pizza. It was good, although a little dry and could have used more goat cheese. Overall, it was a fun night out &I would go back to try more of the menu!"

  • "All food was extremely tasty! Fabulous side veggies, appetizers yummy, and pizza was light and delicious! Service was wonderful...very welcoming from start to finish! Super nice staff, extremely helpful with ordering suggestions. My only complaint...the music was VERY loud and it became a bit difficult to have a conversation."

  • "Sat outside. The mixed chairs, in height were very uncomfortable. We had a low table and I was sitting in a normal size chair...it was just awkward. Pizza was better than average....all just ok over all."

  • "Loved their patio out back! We had caeser salad and bacon pizza, it was delicious- great crust!"

  • "Stella Barra was a good experience overall and I will probably return. The pizza was very good and the cocktails were delicious. I loved that the portion sizes were larger, making it an affordable meal for 2."

  • "We arrived for our 10 pm reservation so it should not have been a surprise to anyone, however our server was already mentally checked out. There was a few other tables lingering but we still tried to hurry up. We weren't told of specials and it took an Ct of God to get a second glass of wine. We were never offered dessert menus or after dinner drinks either. Just not the extraordinary LEYE hospitality I relish. The final straw was when we were leaving the waiter said "it's been real" Who says that to a diner in an upscale restaurant? Maybe they shouldn't seat until 11 if they really don't want you there. Otherwise, gorgeous place, great food. Decent wine list"

  • "Although they weren't able to accommodate for us right at the reservation time, the wait wasn't long. The waiter was friendly and helpful in making recommendations. Other hostesses, waiters, and waitresses seemed also seemed to be well trained and provide quality service. The food, needless to say, was great. My boyfriend and I had pizza (1/2 Applewood Smoked Bacon & Goat Cheese and 1/2 Shaved Mushroom) and a Fine Chopped Salad, all recommended by the waiter. We also had bread with the house-churned butter. The amount of food was just right for both of us put together (I don't eat a lot, he eats a lot). Although the second serving of bread we got was a bit stale, I'm still giving 5 stars because for some reason, we weren't charged for it!"

  • "The artichoke and spinach pizza was delicious. Do not miss ordering the brussel sprouts. They are absolutely amazing!! Even if you always disliked them, it's a must have."

  • "Loved the inventive fresh spinach/date salad, the delicious cauliflower, and a fabulous un-gummy pizza! Decent wines by glass on compact list (80% Italian, 20% American). Not to mention a sweet butterscotch-caramel jar of hedonistic delight. All brilliant!"

  • "The food was good, the Waitress was attentive and knowledgable and warned us about timing on the pizza, the hostess sat us 15min after reservation though."

  • "Pizza was delicious and so were brussel sprouts. Wine list was good too. Booths on the side are great for a group of 5 girlfriends. Will definitely come back. Wish the squash pizza was still on the menu."

  • "Four of us went out for dinner and had an amazing server, we tried the Barrata app which was delicious, and tried three different pizzas as well. On the way out we grabbed a few cookies from Summer House, but next time I'd skip them and get the Butterscotch dessert at the table at Barra, I had a bite of one my friend had and it was awesome!"

  • "A friend and I went to check out the pizza and had some beers. We enjoyed the pepperoni pizza and different types of beers. Pizzas are 1 size. The cookies available in the entrance are awesome! Casual atmosphere and seating available in the back patio. We went on a Monday, so it was not too crowded."

  • "Food: not that much selection. Would be nice if they had some pasta. The pizza was great for the price! The dough was tasty. Ambiance: I'm not liking the mismatched chair on the patio. The chairs were uncomfortable. The inside chairs look better. So not a lettuce typical restaurant...I tried asking the waitstaff to change seats to the padded booths but amidst the empty booths, we were refused. I'm guessing it's a waitstaff issue, like another server is assigned to those seats. Waitstaff: somewhat inexperienced. My friend got soaked (pants and shirt)w olive oil as a waitstaff was trying to clear our table. We were given wipes. We joked : he was "anointed". Otherwise,Service was fast. Drinks reasonably priced. Kids are welcome too!"

  • "I have been looking for gluten free pizza and found my spot! First time for us at Stella Barra and we were very happy. I got 1/2 goat cheese/prosciutto with red sauce and 1/2 mushroom with white sauce. Both were great although I preferred the goat cheese. My husband got spinach - 1/2 with red sauce and 1/2 with white sauce. We both enjoyed our pizza very much and already have a reservation in less than 2 weeks. Very crowded - get a reservation if you don't want to wait."

  • "Dinner in the outdoor patio was very pleasant. The salad and pizza were outstanding. We also ordered a single portion of olives, which could easily have served ten people. We had the goat cheese and bacon pizza with a thin crust, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. Service was friendly and prompt, actually, to a fault - the pizza arrived prematurely, while we were still eating the salad, and before we could even make a dent in the huge plate of olives. I think next time we'll wait until the salad is served before ordering the pizza."

  • "Those two things keep me coming back for more. Oh, and the dips/sauces! Sit at the pizza bar sometime!"

  • "Pros were that it was a trendy, hot spot and the food was pretty good. We had been wanting to try this place for a while. Cons were that the pizza was very greasy and the service was just okay. Our waiter was happy and nice, however, he didn't tell us that you could do pizza as half one kind and half another and our app never came out..we had to ask where it was as our pizza was being delivered. Also, I ordered a sauv blanc glass of wine and was told it was the last glass in the place. At least she gave it to us for free!"

  • "Enjoyed the food variety and the drink list. Had a great waiter who explained everything Great place. Would highly recommend it."

  • "The menu is not huge but the food was very tasty. Lighter appetites can share a delicious appetizer and one flatbread or salad and be satisfied and have a nice variety of dishes. Noise level at bar and middle tables was a little high but not overly difficult to manage."

  • "The outdoor space is pleasant: no view or greenery to speak of. The pizzas are fine: not spectacular. The service was lovely. If you're nearby it's acceptable."

  • "The Lobster pizza was very average. Brussel Sprouts were excellent. Cocktails were good. Service started off bad but the server eventually, with some friendly banter, she warmed up. For the total package, it's over-priced."

  • "The food is really good here! Pizzas are great! It's a little loud on the weekends. Overall, fun place to go."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "Great pizza, with a variety of options. The kale salad is very good, as is the grilled artichoke pizza. The only downside is the drink prices - $8 for a pint of beer that costs $5 or $6 a couple doors down. The pizza is good, a little pricy, but unique enough to validate the prices, but the beer price is steep, which means I only get one."

  • "I love the food at Stella Barra! I like that you can request to make your pizza extra thin and crispy - "Thin Sin." It's definitely has a great ambiance and a great place to go on a date or with a group of friends. However, the last few times we've been the service hasn't been very good. We understand that they say that the food/pizza is supposed to come out as it is prepared but we will order appetizers/salads and they have forgotten to bring them out the last few times."

  • "We had reservations for 6 people, but had to wait better than 30 minutes more to get seated. We were all fairly grumpy by that point. The manager came out to apologize and offered appetizers (which were later comped); we were seated shortly there after. From that point on, things took a big turn. The appetizers, including the bread with WONDERFUL olive oil and balsamic; then the meatballs, which were the best I've had in years; and the topper was the goat cheese with toast. Everything was fantastic. Subtle, complex flavors. We had three pizzas--I would recommend the thin crust. All very tasty. We will return when we visit Chicago again. A restaurant of this quality should be given a second chance. GOOD Recovery by the staff!"

  • "I've eaten here twice now, and overall like it. Hits and misses on the menu. Loved the burrata and spinach and kale pizza. Brussel sprouts were good, though nothing mind-blowing. The cauliflower tasted pretty good, but seems overpriced for what you get."

  • "The ambiance and food was great, but our service was less than "stella". Our waitress screwed up my friends very easy breakfast sandwich twice, and didn't offer any sort of apology or guilt - the least she could have done was comp our prosecco! Then, I was served my food and because I waited for my friend to get her meal (twice) I was left with cold eggs and cold carrots. She didn't even offer to take my meal back to keep warm. It was quite odd. I'd definitely recommend to friends and go back but I hope the service is better next time."

  • "Stella is in our neighborhood so we've been twice (prior to 6 pm) with our two children. While the food is passable, the service leaves a lot to be desired. The servers drift away as you're speaking to them. They appear blasé waiting on patrons. We've given it a go twice now, and have opted to take our business elsewhere."

  • "Third time coming to Stella Barra. We thought the service would have picked up but still very slow for food to come out. Pizzas were good, however the salad was sent back for brown lettuce. Disappointing. The back outdoor garden was very nice especially in good weather."

  • "Very good pizza. Bad enough they charge for bread but they add additional charge for butter...reason "it's homemade..." Give me s break!"
