A word from Stella 34 Trattoria
With sixth-floor views of the Empire State building and three wood-burning ovens, Stella 34 Trattoria is a modern trattoria and the dining star of Macy’s flagship store.

Executive Chef Jarett Appell offers Neapolitan pizza from wood-burning ovens with fior di latte mozzarella, Caputo flour imported from Naples, San Marzano tomatoes from the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius and water meticulously sourced from local wells to match the pH and mineral balance of the natural spring water in Naples. The menu showcases al forno entrées, house-made pasta, “piccoli piatti” – signature antipasti designed for sharing - and an all-Italian wine list of more than 100 bottles.

Open 7 days a week for lunch, lounge & dinner. Direct access from the street is available via dedicated express elevators at Macy’s Broadway & 35th Street entrance.

Diner Reviews
  • "Nice to stop and have a quick pick-me-up while you shop till you drop! Food was good, not notable. Service was efficient- although our server had not become too familiar with the menu. The bartender was great & knowledgeable - happy hour drinks were terrific. Had a fun evening with friends and will return just not for a special occasion."

  • "I dine out at a lot in NYC. And I've been to all the NY department store restaurants. I think that Stella 34, at Macy's, soars above all the rest. Stella is part of Macy's new renovations - millions of dollars later - they have an awesome Italian Bistro on the 6th floor with views of Emipre State. I love it and keep going back!"

  • "We loved it all! Hard to believe its in a department store! The decor is very modern and chic! Our good was excellent and the service superb! We went for an early dinner after a theater matinee! Caught a train to go home one block away! Can't best that!"

  • "In one of the most chaotic parts of Manhattan is this gem of a restaurant, part of the wonderful patina group. Stella is high up in Macy's! Food, ambience superb and a great getaway with friends and clients. And great for carnivores, vegetarians alike"

  • "We ordered wine, and it took forever to arrive, and it wasn't the same bottle we ordered. The food was just ok and the service was fair. Our lunch was much better when they first opened. We were very disappointed. The gelato was perfect! We are fans of the original location in Firenze. Always great, every time."

  • "The seating is wide and comfortable. It's definitely a place where families and friends can enjoy. The food was great, but for my part a bit salty for me, but other than that, the flavor combinations were good."

  • "I was seeing a show at MSG and wanted somewhere close to the Garden. I took a chance with Stella 34 and I am glad I did. The food was very good and the restaurant bright and white. You almost forget you are in the middle of Macy's. I found the price point to be average for NYC and I enjoyed my meal from start to finish. Will definitely be back!"

  • "The Penn Station/Herald Square area has always been, for me, an incredibly depressing place to go out to eat. I've enjoyed the occasional Korean restaurant, and I don't mind pubs, but none of them has seemed suitable for a nice lunch or dinner. Stella 34 fits the bill. It's elegant yet casual. You could have a salad or sandwich, or dine more elaborately. (My salad -- the Verdure -- was outstanding.) It's open, elegant, airy, with a great menu. Though located inside Macy's, it was quite separate from the shopping areas, unlike some department store restaurants. I plan to go back whenever I need to dine out in this part of Manhattan."

  • "The lemon dessert is incredible. My husband keeps talking about it 4 days later. I loved the anti pasta appetizer and the cod. We will definitely be back!"

  • "A really nice place to eat if you're shopping at Macy's or if your meeting up with people near MSG or Penn Station. The food is very good. It's a high end Italian restaurant and prices are not cheap but there are less menu expensive options, like delicious Pizzas for about $18. Really nice appetizers and salads. Presentation and quality of the food is top notch. Nice wine selection and they offered us a taste of a few wine options before we ordered. Our waitress was really attentive and very sweet. If you enter Macys at the 35th and Broadway entrance, there is an elevator right there that brings you right up to the restaurant (6th floor). Sometimes Its a stuggle to find restaurants near Penn Station but I'll be back to this place"

  • "Must be the best lunch spot in the area. A little noisy (though maybe a better positioned table might have helped us) but very, very good food and service, great light and air. Food is presented well, too. Surprising to find it next to the bedding department at Macy's but who cares? In fact, that's an asset because they get only diners who really want to be there. We were a bit rushed ourselves the day we went, but I can easily see having a relatively leisurely meal there at the right table--and there are lots of them in a large, diverse space."

  • "For the life of me I can't understand why a restaurant is a part of restaurant week and then doesn't let you know about it unless you ask. I eat at Stella's quite often yet the Harry Houdini style of promotion is a real turn off."

  • "My party of 4 had a celebration there on Wednesday using the Restaurant Week special. Some of us had the Bean Salad and thought it was too salty. I had the Lasagna and it was also salty. Last time I was there I found the food also to be too salty. Other than that, we had a great time."

  • "Very underrated; located in Macy's 6th floor (?!). $20 for pasta was a little much, but the view of herald square was incredible. Beautiful interior."

  • "The food was good and the service was okay. It was very load due to the openness of the restaurant, I felt like I was at a school lunchroom."

  • "This is only the 2nd time I've been here and it's the 2nd time my LUNCH took over 2 hrs. Our waiter left for the day, he was no where in sight. I'll never be back here."

  • "It's restaurant week so one expects the limited menu, but shouldn't that make it easier on the staff? The cod was tasty and perfectly cooked but didn't sit well next to a very vinegar-y greens. Pizzas are first rate with delicious crust."

  • "This is truly a trattoria. The perfect place for a drink and a bite. You do not need to be shopping at MACYS to enjoy this destination. There is an express elevator at Herald Square and 35th Street. It whisks you directly to the 6th floor. We started with a prosciutto and cheese board. It was delicious. Then, we shared a pizza. The combinations are a bit whimsical. We wondered what the chef was thinking. Also, loved the mimosa with elderberry(?). I hesitated to order it because some of the ingredients were unfamiliar. The server, a newbie from Ohio, was so gracious. She said, "try it if you don't like it I will bring you something else". That spirit is exuded throughout the staff. I do recommend reservations. party or 4+ ask for a view."

  • "The best thing about Stella's is that you totally forget that you're in a department store. They did such a fine job of making it a restaurant, and the dedicated elevator is part of that. The "duck salad" was more duck than salad, but really tasty. Very rich - if you're looking for something light, don't order it. Poorly described on the menu, but quite delicious. The veal tonato was a disappointment. Quality of the veal was very good, but served with very little tuna sauce. We asked for more and got it, but it was very bland in flavor. Prices are very high for what you're getting, but what the heck. It's a fun place."

  • "this was the second visit here for me and it was as good as the first. Service , food and ambience were all very good. this is located on the 6th floor of Macy's - if you get a window table I think it makes the experience even better. I highly recommend Stellas for busines or casual lunch - I have not visited for dinner"

  • "wow, department store dining brought to a whole new level. Not only innovative food but a great view to boot. Can't wait to return to try some of the other great sounding appy's and entrees. Professional, knowledgeable servers and a neat room."

  • "Read reviews and wanted to try Stella's for a light dinner as we were staying in a nearby hotel. We were seated right away and enjoyed a nice table with a view of Herald Square. The eggplant was perfect and the margarita pizza was also quite nice. Very good service and certainly a good choice in this neighborhood for dining."

  • "We were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. The veal meatballs were soft and luscious. Our dinner of linguine with mushrooms, asparagus , and peas was delicious. Our dinner of escarole pasta w guancale, red onion and bread crumbs was excellent if you like a little spice. This was a very unique dish. The service was excellent!"

  • "Lovely space in a store, which really needed to provide it's masses with a dining choice; however, the drinks arrived long after ordering and after delivery of the first course. The pizza was a little stiff and felt like it had sat under a heat lamp while my daughter's pasta was cooked.. The portions are a little skimpy and prioces not so! Value, therefore, lacking. I am also wondering why no larger vessels of wine are offered? or why every drink is approx. $13 +... not so in many other similar venues...."

  • "Crazy awesome midtown find in of all places, Macy's. I worked in the area from 2000-2010, left for a job in the 60s on the east side and just came back to Herald Sq area in January of 2014 so was missing for four years. Macy's itself has gotten a total facelift and looks awesome, and now this amazing restaurant. I was skeptical - extremely skeptical but my dining mates promised I would love it. From the minute I walked in I felt like i was transported to Europe - it's beautiful. Original flooring which is a nice detail but enough about scenery the food. We all shared a salad, pasta entree and pizza. Everything was amazing - seriously. They make their own bread - super delish. I highly reco to this spot, it's a gem. Go here now."

  • "This restaurant is located on the 6th floor of Macy's with beautiful views. It is consistently wonderful. Everyone we have taken here has loved it. THey have a huge bar, lots of tables, and cook in the wood oven. It is bright and airy with large windows that look out to New York. The sea bass is incredible. My husband loves the charcuterie. You can build you own board and it comes with garlicky olives, crisoy salty crackers and pickles. The sale with proscuitto (Napoli salad) is one of my favorites. My niece loved her pizza. You have to experience it to believe it."

  • "To get to Stella's, you have to go to Macy's and get on an elevator to the 6th floor. To say it's unexpected is an understatement. If you turn right off the elevator, you can buy sheets. Left, you can have a great dining experience. Nice views in a fun atmosphere. Great, friendly -- and fast -- service. Food was very good. Apps especially. And I had a class of excellent (and cheaply priced) chianti. Noise level is high -- definitely high-energy -- but not so high that you can't have a conversation. Great place, and we'll definitely be back."
