A word from Stella 34 Trattoria
With sixth-floor views of the Empire State building and three wood-burning ovens, Stella 34 Trattoria is a modern trattoria and the dining star of Macy’s flagship store.

Executive Chef Jarett Appell offers Neapolitan pizza from wood-burning ovens with fior di latte mozzarella, Caputo flour imported from Naples, San Marzano tomatoes from the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius and water meticulously sourced from local wells to match the pH and mineral balance of the natural spring water in Naples. The menu showcases al forno entrées, house-made pasta, “piccoli piatti” – signature antipasti designed for sharing - and an all-Italian wine list of more than 100 bottles.

Open 7 days a week for lunch, lounge & dinner. Direct access from the street is available via dedicated express elevators at Macy’s Broadway & 35th Street entrance.

Diner Reviews
  • "Read reviews and wanted to try Stella's for a light dinner as we were staying in a nearby hotel. We were seated right away and enjoyed a nice table with a view of Herald Square. The eggplant was perfect and the margarita pizza was also quite nice. Very good service and certainly a good choice in this neighborhood for dining."

  • "Highly recommend! So delicious, quick and perfect experience. We went for lunch."

  • "Lovely space in a store, which really needed to provide it's masses with a dining choice; however, the drinks arrived long after ordering and after delivery of the first course. The pizza was a little stiff and felt like it had sat under a heat lamp while my daughter's pasta was cooked.. The portions are a little skimpy and prioces not so! Value, therefore, lacking. I am also wondering why no larger vessels of wine are offered? or why every drink is approx. $13 +... not so in many other similar venues...."

  • "We were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. The veal meatballs were soft and luscious. Our dinner of linguine with mushrooms, asparagus , and peas was delicious. Our dinner of escarole pasta w guancale, red onion and bread crumbs was excellent if you like a little spice. This was a very unique dish. The service was excellent!"

  • "Crazy awesome midtown find in of all places, Macy's. I worked in the area from 2000-2010, left for a job in the 60s on the east side and just came back to Herald Sq area in January of 2014 so was missing for four years. Macy's itself has gotten a total facelift and looks awesome, and now this amazing restaurant. I was skeptical - extremely skeptical but my dining mates promised I would love it. From the minute I walked in I felt like i was transported to Europe - it's beautiful. Original flooring which is a nice detail but enough about scenery the food. We all shared a salad, pasta entree and pizza. Everything was amazing - seriously. They make their own bread - super delish. I highly reco to this spot, it's a gem. Go here now."

  • "This restaurant is located on the 6th floor of Macy's with beautiful views. It is consistently wonderful. Everyone we have taken here has loved it. THey have a huge bar, lots of tables, and cook in the wood oven. It is bright and airy with large windows that look out to New York. The sea bass is incredible. My husband loves the charcuterie. You can build you own board and it comes with garlicky olives, crisoy salty crackers and pickles. The sale with proscuitto (Napoli salad) is one of my favorites. My niece loved her pizza. You have to experience it to believe it."

  • "To get to Stella's, you have to go to Macy's and get on an elevator to the 6th floor. To say it's unexpected is an understatement. If you turn right off the elevator, you can buy sheets. Left, you can have a great dining experience. Nice views in a fun atmosphere. Great, friendly -- and fast -- service. Food was very good. Apps especially. And I had a class of excellent (and cheaply priced) chianti. Noise level is high -- definitely high-energy -- but not so high that you can't have a conversation. Great place, and we'll definitely be back."

  • "This is a wonderful break from the usual crowded bistro's in Herald Square. Open Table reservation was confirmed the same morning and acknowledged at entry. Menu is diverse enough for a good lunch selection, and service is attentive and fast."

  • "The place is lovely -- so wide open and bright and modern. Even the restroom was excellent -- and unusual. We enjoyed the food and drink and the server was attentive to our every need. It was altogether a very enjoyable evening."

  • "Cool place. It's a nice respite from the touristic morass that is midtown. Nice views, pretty ambiance. It's true, the acoustics aren't ideal for a business lunch but serviceable. I was surprised by how good my pasta was. I am pretty picky. It had pieces of lobster, pancetta atop an arugula pasta which was well cooked. My client didn't seem to love her Neapolitan pizza but it looked quite good to me. This place is recommended for a nicer than average business lunch at a reasonable price. Two people can get out of there for 50 dollars or so. The one negative is that the service got less and less, and it was a struggle to flag our waitress down for the check. I would recommend they look into that. Business lunches must be quick!"

  • "I have never been to Stella 34 before but I was very pleased with the food and atmosphere. The location is right in the heart of midtown and it very convenient to find. The atmosphere was nicely lit and the tables were spaced out unlike many NYC restaurants that has everyone on top of one another. The service was at a good pace and our waiter was friendly and helpful. The food portions were of an average size and full of flavor. Delicious Prosecco, tasty veal meatballs, and yummy pizza at a reasonable price for NYC. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend and I will definitely be back to dine again!"

  • "The service was excellent. I loved the view. The food was tasty, but the portions were pitiful. As we were leaving we heard the same from others. I thought it was way too pricey for what you get."

  • "This was my second visit to Stella 34. Both visits we had a party of 8 or 9 and the staff was very accommodating. Some guests may think service is a little slow, but if you are looking for a dinner in a non - rushed atmosphere, then this the spot. They kept our water glasses full and cleared our plates in a timely manner but are not trying to turn the table quickly. In both occasions the staff handled our party well and had a good sense of humor."

  • "First of all life long New Yawker. And I love being one and have always loved Macy's. Even now when TOO MANY people but the redone version is pretty nice. Moving on to the restaurant. GREAT FIND! Who knew that this could happen at Macy's. Private elevator. Behind bedding apparently. Lovely looking place. I sat at the bar and chatted with Brij, the bartender the entire time. Delightful experience. Good wine. Food was pretty darn good too and portions are quite good. I definitely plan on going back. You would not know where you are but of course you are in the most recognizable Store in the world! A definite go to"

  • "The last place I expected to find a great restaurant was in a department store. What a pleasant surprise to find great reviews of Stella 34 Trattoria on the sixth floor of Macy's. And the restaurant lived up to its reviews. My son had risotto and I had the margarita pizza. Both were delicious, as was the salad we shared. We couldn't resist the gelato for dessert and it was fabulous. Our Italian waiter was great, very attentive and made excellent suggestions to make our dinner a great experience. We wouldn't hesitate to return."

  • "Very limited selection of food. No salad included with main course of only 2 manicotti. Main selection was not hot when delivered, and was only mediocre for taste/quality. Price of alcoholic beverages very expensive. Given that there is a captive audience below (the store was very very busy, but the restaurant was not), more should be done to entice these folks to your restaurant, which enjoys a great location."

  • "The view of the empire state building was incredible. Extremely fine dining for an incredible, reasonable price. I will definitely come back over and over again. P.S You can not leave until you've had the gelato."

  • "My first visit was lunch with my granddaughter. I requested a table with a view and that's what we had. To think one is in this immense department store and six floors above is this special restaurant with a lovely view of the city's skyscrapers. The food was wonderful and we both enjoyed our salads and pizza. A return visit for dinner is not far behind. The menu is most appealing and I look forward to trying many dishes."

  • "After a bumpy start about 6 mos ago: They've really risen to the occasion. The staff is great now....friendly, helpful, knowledgeable....attentive. Everything you want in a $$$ trattoria. The atmosphere is fantastic ... the views out the Broadway side of Macys are great! The lighting is good....nothing to complain about at all!"

  • "We went for dinner, having read about the restaurant in the NYTimes, among other places, but weren't quite sure what to expect. We asked for a quiet table with a view, and we got that--Empire State Building and more. The waitress was young and friendly and very knowledgeable about the food and wine, and the food was delicious and sophisticated and the presentations lovely. Good wines by the glass, reasonable prices. The services was very professional all around. We will certainly be back."

  • "Stella 34 was meant to be a destination restaurant, rather than just a place to eat in a big (well, very big and very famous) department store. It has succeeded magnificently. Delightful in every way."

  • "A lovely place for dinner during the week to meet up with friends. Very spacious and you are not on top of other diners. I would have liked more variety to the main dishes but other than that this place scores high for repeat visits."

  • "Booked for brunch for 7 ppl (sunday at 11am) with 3 small children. We arrived and the place was empty, instead of sitting us in a far corner we got seated in the middle in a circular booth. 3 small children behaved like so. They didn't throw food or scream but were giggly and active. We got some terrible dirty looks from the maitre'd. He even came to the table as we were eating to ask us if we were finished. He clearly wanted us out. It was uncomfortable and uncalled for. This was Macy's in HERALD SQUARE on a Sunday morning! We didn't break, damage or did anything rude. It was just plain bad service, from their decision of where to sit us to the attitude of the maitre'd. Avoid this place if you want to enjoy some family time. "

  • "We had our last lunch here before leaving NY and wish we had made it our first because we would then have known to come here more often ! It was so pleasent, fresh & clean, the waiter was helpful & informative and th view of the ESB from the window was amazing. I had chosen from the menu Paccheri Napolitano and it was just enough to satisfy me but leave me wanting just one mouthful more. On my return to NY Stella 34 will be one of the first restaurant bookings I will make."

We thought it was a cute place but nothing too special. It was really nice that they have gluten free pasta! :)"
