Diner Reviews
  • "Pizza was very tasty and Savignon Blanc was good too. Good service. Love the open space and dining privacy."

  • "The roasted veggies (Verdure) were a delicious start. Then the margherita pizza, roasted chicken and pasta with beef ragu. Everything was very, very good. Strawberry gelato for dessert (yum!) Server was attentive even though busy. There are open windows facing the Empire State Building if you request. I brought my 7 y/o daughter here for lunch on her birthday - she requested it after remembering the first time we were here in December after visiting Santa Claus. "

  • "The main dish was great, the appetizer and dessert, forgettable... and tiny portions. They give you 2 -mini half slices of bread, no basket and no salad or side comes with your meal.. for $30 a plate, throw a simple salad at me. And strange meal combos. 10 different salami and cheese plates and nothing sounded appetizing.. The waitstaff was very good just attentive enough and they didn't rush us. For some reason they have great choices pre packed to go, but not on their menu?? To me it tries a little too hard to be different and ends up nothing special. "

  • "The food has always been very good when we have been here but the service tends to be a little slow, especially for NYC."

  • "How can I ever thank Stella 34 cerebration for making my friend's birthday celebration so memorable and so wonderful? So a big shout out to the wonderful Stella 34 staff! You all rock!"

  • "A friend recommended we eat here and I had no idea it was even there. The view over Herald Square is lovely, the room is big and spacious, the wait staff was friendly and attentive, and our meal was terrific. I will certainly look forward to going there again, especially as that area of town has so few good places to eat."

  • "Service was great. Only criticism, is lack of "oaky" "Buttery" white wines. The Chardonnay was light and Fruity, not my taste. This has been my issue, albeit , only issue all 5 times I have dined there."

  • "A surprising find on the 6th floor of Macys 34th street! We began our meal with an elderberry flower mimosa a perfect choice The small plates were wonderful. We chose the arrancini and the meatballs followed by the Napoli salad. The rice balls were flavorful and the sausage inside was a delicious addition! The veal meatballs were very tasty and the marinara sauce was a very good compliment to them. The salad was filled with interesting flavor combinations. Dates, prosciutto , mushrooms, salami perfectly dressed. The entree was pasta with short rib ragu . Amazing ! I highly recommend it ! Dessert was the best possible ending to an amazing meal . GELATO! The flavor choices made it hard to decide we had the bacio and pineapple coconut. YUMMY!"

  • "The food and service was outstanding. And the big floor to ceiling windows bring in light and the beautiful view of the Empire State Building. It's a winning combination."

  • "Stella 34 has always been a very pleasant experience for me, but sadly this time I got the worst service ever. It is usual that the server ask if you would like some water and bread while you wait, but this time, he didn't care so he went straightforward to ask me what I wanted to order. I asked for a regular Coke and a Margherita pizza as usual, since pizzas are amazing at Stella 34. This time, the pizza came before my drink, and it was oily unlike the regular consistency that they should have, also by that time I didn't had any water yet while that same server was focussing on giving a great attention to the tables next to me with double round of bread and water. I felt like he didn't care. I have been with other great servers before."

  • "The food was great and the full service bar is a plus. I had a IPA and my mother and cousin had a Moscato which they loved. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the food. We where asked a few times if we needed anything but most of the time where left alone. We where ok with this because it let us have more of a intimate dinner experience. They placed us away form large groups so there was no noise issue."

  • "Having exhausted all the usual places we go for lunch before a matinee, I took a chance on Stella 34 and now I will never go anywhere else. Private elevators took us up to the 6th floor in Macy's and when the doors opened I was pleasantly surprised to see a large open room with scenic windows overlooking Herald Square. Although it had a modern feel, I couldn't help but feel like R H Macy was going to appear at any moment to check in on us. The menu had so much to offer and at the suggestion of our waiter we tried several of the appetizer, sharing them among the table, and one was more delicious than the next. Our personal pizzas, homemade pastas and a divine eggplant dish had us all satisfied as we made our way to the great white way."

  • "I come to NYC about 4 times a year. What a little gem of a place in a department store! Have eaten the counter service and the table service and found both of those experiences outstanding. As a quick bite, it's amazing and as a restaurant dining experience as well. Love the comnvenience of the elevator express. Great place to meet up."

  • "For Manhattan this place as ample seating, great and fast service and we'll prepares and we'll presented food that tastes good. Something that is not always available on the island. Pizza crust was too soft is the only downside that we had in all our food. And add to it we were all vegetarians."

  • "Dinner at Stella 34 on the eighth floor of Macy's NYC flagship store proved to be a really pleasant evening. We sampled the pizza - a generous portion with fresh tasty ingredients. Very attentive service. A cool modern feel to the design of the restaurant. Hard to believe Macy's had those large windows and great views covered up all these years."

  • "this is my second time at Stella 34 and was please on both occasions. It was good to see that the restaurant has caught on, the place was crowded and a line waiting for tables. Our reservations was honored and we were seated at wonderful table near the window, with a view of the Empire State Building and the little park across the street. Food was wonderful, the four of us has salads which were wonderful. We all shared a dessert and had asked for a knife to divide it, this was the only negative, the waiter was reluctant to give one to us, stating the it's better if we leave it whole. Since we are the customer, he should have brought us the knife without the comment. Otherwise is was again a good experience."

  • "Very bright and upbeat dining room. Open floor plan and high ceilings and big windows let in excellent light and with excellent views including Empire State Building. Wouldn't expect such a hip space in a department store. And prices were reasonable (for manhattan at least) and service was very friendly and professional. A good choice for midtown that is genuinely unique but still not too radical or awkward for out of town visitors."

  • "The food was delicious, our eyes were bigger than out stomachs but all of the dishes we tried were good. Suprisingly fancy considering its on the 6th floor of Macy's. Felt like we were in an entirely different place/atmosphere. Service was great. On the pricier side but a very nice place to go for a special dinner or occasion. i"

  • "Been early on and went back again to see how it compared. This new trattoria in Macy's is very nice. The space is open and has nice big windows facing empire state. The food and service is excellent!!! The veal meatballs are heaven and the Napoli Salad is excellent. Plus, I love a restaurant that has Affogato on the desert menu. I highly recommend trying this spot!"

  • "Herald Square isn't exactly a mecca for gourmet cuisine. Stella is a find. The place boasts a very open-feeling restaurant with views on one side toward Herald Square, and for diners with backs against the windows, a perfect view of the open kitchen. I've eaten here twice now ... both times our lunches were very tasty and imaginative, and I found the service to be excellent both times. Take the express elevators to the sixth floor from the north east edge of Macy's and enjoy a true new-American experience with a pretty nice view. And while you're in the building, feel free to pick up some things from Macy's!"

  • "The service was excellent. Props to the waiter. The risotto dish I ordered was not at all right. It was way too salty and was not cooked long enough. It was more like a rice porridge than a risotto; it was watery. The deserts made up for the bad entree. Their lemon desert and their gelatos are out of this world if you like tart deserts!"

  • "I can't rave enough about this gem of a trattoria (which offers take out too at a counter near the entrance). It's a great place to share offerings so you get a taste of many different things. the many offerings from appetizers, to soups, salads (love the beet salad especially), pastas (beef ragu with carmelized onions, one of eight) and the BEST most unusual pizzas you will find anywhere-- my personal favorite being the cauliflower with Meyer Lemon. Go, you will be surprised and be back."

  • "Good modern Italian food in a contemporary setting - honest, innovative kitchen. My main course, a goat ragu over homemade ruffled noodles was good, but not great. The goat meat was extraordinary, but the sauce was very light and thin, not hearty enough for the doughy noodles..... cappellini or thin delicate pasta would have been lovely with such a light sauce. Disconcerting. I don't think an Italian chef would make this mistake."

  • "A hidden gem and new find in the West 30's of Manhattan. The salads and service was notable and a great location to meet people who want to be near MSG or Penn Station."

  • "We came after a long day of travel and the staff couldn't have been nicer. I had requested a seat in front of the windows as my companions had not been to NYC before. The food was wonderful. We all tried something different. The salad, pizza, veal meatball sandwich, and the pasta with beef ragout were all great. We had room for dessert and once again we all had something different. The check was reasonable for all that we had including wine. Great food, great service, great location!"

  • "Great food/wine/ambiance and service....the whole deal! My guest is allergic to gluten, and she was able to have a delicious gluten free version of her chosen entree! The gelato is delicious. Very nice to be able to have two flavors when ordering a SMALL portion! Love this restaurant for both lunch and dinner! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "I chose this restaurant because we were going to Penn Station after dinner. It is on the 6th floor of Macy's so it's just an elevator ride and one block from the train! The food was very well prepared, service was great - very attuned to dietary requests. They even had some special items on the menu for the flower show."

  • "This was my second time at Stella Trattoria. Service is excellent and the food is great. It is better than expected since the restaurant is located at Macys. The view is nice. If you get a good table you could see clearly the Empire State Building. I would definetely go back to this restaurant."

  • "The food was absolutely nothing special - had the meatballs, a pizza and salad - meatballs were tasteless, pizza was a soggy mess and the salad had no dressing. Wouldn't bother going back. Had to flag down our waiter to get water and another glass of wine"

  • "What a find - good food, great view, upbeat, fun and just fancy enough to make it special. Too bad we lost our waitress for half an hour after she delivered our dessert menus - we finally gave up and asked someone, anyone to bring us our bill. We were surprised to find this delicious spot - upstairs at MACY's - shopping and fine dining together - wonderful. Too bad the service was uneven. First a lost glass of wine, then a lost waitress. Odd because up until then she had been attentive and professional. Caught the eye of the floor manager three times to no avail. We decided to remember the food over the service and can recommend Stella 34 to others easily."

  • "We had an anniversary to celebrate, and code this new location on the 6th floor of Macy's. looking towards the Empie State Building. It was popular - booking I suspect is essential. I had requested a window table, and this was given to us on arrival. In fact, it was a table for four, and the other two settings were removed. Very impressive! I was adventurous and ordered suckling pig. However, I am a Jack Sprat when it comes to meat, and the outer ring of the two rings given were pure fat, Yuk. At $30 for this dish, I expected all lean. That was the downer for the evening. My partner, however, was delighted with his pasta dish. Portions were average size, thankfully not starvation size generally associated with expensive restaurants."
