A word from The Roost at LA Farm
A Santa Monica landmark, LA Farm originally opened in 1984 and quickly became the go-to place for power lunches, romantic dinners and special events. Tucked away on the infamous Lantana property, where movers and shakers from the music, film, and television industry have maintained their residency since the 1980s.

    I am lunch time regular at LA Farm. In fact, my staff calls La Farm my dining room. It is clear that the new management and new chef are looking to find their idea of the right combination. I was surprised by the new menu (after having the old menu for so long), but change is good and I am looking forward to new and wonderful choices on the menu. The menu is changing, but the service team is pretty much the same. Great service, good food, easy parking. Overall a great place for a business lunch in West Los Angeles/Santa Monica on Olympic.

    Outstanding hospitality. Seating by fireplace was nice but every time the door opened, we got a chilly draft. We appreciated Stefan coming by to welcome us and chat. The wine list offered a good selection at reasonable markup. Driving directions from Google Mapquest didn't reflect road work and closures. We're looking forward to a return visit.

    We were a little off-put by Stefan's when we couldn't find it - it was in the back of an office park with very little signage. Also, there was a valet stand but no valet and then the hostess was rude and snippy with us. However, except for the seating arrangements (why in an empty room do you seat four tables on top of each other)? However our server was cheerful, friendly and full of great suggestions. The food was unique and expertly prepared. It was also delcious. It was slow getting cocktails but they were strong and tasted great. The deviled eggs with caviar were our favorite appetizers, along with the tiny sliders. Dessert was excellent with tiny ice cream pops being the best. Could have eaten 2 servings. We will definitely return.

    Service is outstanding and the room is great. Food quality is always good to excellent -- it depends on dish ordered. Roasted Beet Salad is excellent one of the two best in the entire metro Los Angeles area. Scallops are excellent, too. Crab-Artichoke Risotto is overpowered by the parmesan cheese ... more like a cheesy rice dish than a traditional risotto.

    This is a great romantic places as well...hardly crowded...but romantic, with a good menu. They need more spot lighting on the table in the patio so you can see whats on the table. They also need a better wine list. It needs a cheese plate as well. but food is pretty good, we tried the fix menu, but i wish it was more creative than safe.

    The patio area is decorated very nicely and has a romantic feeling. It appeared that other people agree with me since most diners were in the patio area. The food is hit or miss given that my first visit had better tasting food than the second time. The duet of cali crudo was the best dish of the night both times. The crab gnocchi was not well executed with dense gnocchi and too much of a rich sauce. The piedmontese burger was average given all the gourmet burger joints in LA.

    Met Stefan at the bar when we walked in. We talked for a while about food and business and he was quite personable. Lunch was great, the service was great, the dessert fell flat on its face. I was bummed. The souffle takes 25 minutes from order and still came out raw as soup. Besides that, it was a great experience, such a shame that it ended so poorly.

    Even though it was packed, shoulder to shoulder in the waiting area and bar, they were able to seat us very promptly according to our reservations. The service was wonderful, even though it was full, and the waiter and his team deserves kudos. Food was just right portioned and nice presentation. I would go back more often but its is a distance from where I live. Only problem was that it was noisy and the acoustics did not suppress the noise.

    Stefan's was disappointing. Really not much to say other than the food was good but not noteworthy. I can't even remember what I had, and it was only a month ago!!! (If a meal isn't memorable,then the restaurant can't be that good.) And Stefan seems to spend more time socializing than actually in the kitchen. I won't be going back any time soon. Stefan's better step up its game because it seems he's just riding on his Top Chef fame and not pushing the envelope to deliver something great. . .

    Stephan's at LA Farm has a nice vibe and good food. I feel like the thing that sets them apart from other restaurants and has had me re-visit already is the small plates menu - it's cool for a happy hour, a dinner where you just want to eat random bits of stuff, or a after-movie snack. They're a little off the beaten path for dinner in Santa Monica, but worth the detour.

    I think sometimes in LA we get spoiled by all the high quality food that's available just because the standard is so high. LA Farm is no exception. I think everything hit the mark except for the parking. My only complaint about the experience was not the food but the parking. It was a self park where you get a ticket and pay on your way out. Geez, we were only there for an hour and a half and my parking fee was almost $20.00. Absolutely ridiculous. This is what will keep me away. Otherwise, the appetizers were fabulous. Which is why they are only getting a 3 star

    We went here for birthday celebration. Our table was ready when we arrived, and, to our surprise, they had customized our menus in honor of our special day! It was a great touch.     A simply amazing, personal experience. The food was beyond our imagination. Stefan's food looked unbelievable on TV but you can't ONLY eat with your eyes (though presentation is important and in this case superb) and we were not disappointed by any means with our first visit to his restaurant. We came for my fiance's birthday and this was the best dining experience we have ever had hands down! Stefan and the ENTIRE staff were friendly, comfortable, and considerate without any sense of arrogance or stuffiness that can often be associated with dining of this caliber. We look forward to sharing many special occasions here at Stefan's.

    I was lucky enough to visit Stefan's LA Farm last week for a co-workers bday lunch. I hadn't been there since it was just "LA Farm" and I saw Larry David and Pierce Brosnen (not at the same table)... I had the Open Face Egg Sandwich with Ham, Swiss Cheese and Frisee Arugula Salad, basically a Croque Madame.. which i LOVED!!! So perfectly cooked and the Frisee Arugula was a really nice addition. My co-workers had: Wild Mushroom Risotto, Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Neiman Ranch Burger.. all the other entrees looked beautiful and every last scrap was gobbled up... We then ordered the Buchteln with Pecan Maple Ice Cream and the Peach Cobbler. The Buchteln is a traditional German dessert and was to die for..
