Steelhead DinerPacific Northwest Seafood and WinesA fun evening dining with an old friend who was passing through Seattle on her way back to Chicago. She had the sea bass, I had the grouper, we had several wonderful Pacific Northwest wines which were fantastic and well-priced. Other than our slightly distracted waitress, it was a great evening and I'll go back. In our waitress' defense, it was college graduation night and the place was absolutely packed.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently excellentFine choice for any time and any meal. The wonderful menu is concise but rich with options. There are regular favorites and new items. The kitchen rocks (if you like to cook, sit at the chef's counter or the elevated counter in front of the bar) and are a pleasure to watch. The front-of-the-house staff are well trained and on top of their game. Great place to dine.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly SurprisedBased on some of the negative reviews on Trip Advisor my wife and I were pleasantly surprised. The table service was prompt and very friendly and the food was outstanding. The only negative was the line at the front door staffed by two hostesses who appeared to be in dire need of some training in organization.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMterrific food despite beingterrific food despite being near Pike Market definitely not TT. Copper River King salmon a real treat but $$$. Wine list OK.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently good foodBeen here four times and keep going back. I reccommend it to friends. Very good seafood, fantastic appetizers, great service. Kitchen bar is first come first serve and best seat in the house.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly one night is SeattleHad only one night in the city and it was raining. Steelhead was just accross the street from our hotel, so we opted for convenience, and were glad we did. Service was great and the food was excellent. There is a two seater corner table overlooking the market that is worth waiting for. The place was busy and so the noise level was active, but not outrageous. I had the King Salmon which was seperb. The menue is well balance. My wife had the fried chicken, and being from the South, expectations were low, but she was overwhelmed by a plate full of tender and juicy of "as good as it gets". We will be back the next time we are in Seattle.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative Menu, Nice AtmosphereTook a group of 16 of us here for dinner to celebrate my cousins recent graduation. Was perfect for this occasion. The atmosphere has a hip vibe to it and the casual high-end diner atmosphere was very cool. Menu is pretty creative and the halibut with spring pea shoots that I had was perfectly prepared and the presentation was very appealing. Portion quantities are very reasonable - not crazy giant or taster menu small. My sister had the black cod with a miso marinade that was delicious and my daughters had the pork rib chop with Tuscan influenced white bean and sautéed greens that they loved. Overall a great experience and our waiter did really well with this large a group.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMCatfish TacoHaving never been to Steelhead Diner before we did not know what to expect for lunch but the very nice interior ambience suggested right away that this could be good. First impression at this place are born out by the food. The Catfish Taco via New Orleans style without blackening was truely one of the best fish dishes I have ever eaten. The catfish was heavenly, the hot and spicy underlay of beans and potatoes added just the right spicy note to the delicate fish. Basically this meal is one of my top 10. Nice work Steelhead!!!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceThe food and service were outstanding. The menu was diverse and everything we had (yes, we shared) is something we would definitely order again!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMfun and interesting freshfun and interesting
fresh food and interesting ambience4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI've eaten at SD many timesI've eaten at SD many times and it is usually a hit for me. So it was a little unusual to have an off experience (relative to prior). We went for the Seattle Restaurant Week promotion based on the online posted menu, but the prix fixe menu had substitutions that I didn't find appealing. Then it just seemed like each food course took a long time - we were there for 1 1/2 hours. Finally, I was surprised to be charged for my 2nd non-alc beverage. I should have asked, I guess. Still, the food was excellent as always, and our server was friendly and helpful.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFour of us went to SteelheadFour of us went to Steelhead on a Wednesday evening. It was hopping when we arrived! And the sun hadn't yet set so the view was spectacular! Our table didn't permit seeing the Sound unless standing but our location was quieter than some others. The food was wonderful! Our entire group was very happy!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWent during Restaurant WeekWent during Restaurant Week on a Wednesday for the special menu. Glad we had reservations--they were packed! Seated promptly and had attention right away, but our server was clearly overwhelmed with the number of tables he had and so was unable to focus on us for more than a minute or two at any one time. He was friendly and ultimately the food was served timely; it just felt like we were interrupting him when we needed something. The food was tasty, though a couple of dishes were not as successful (shaved asparagus and radish salad was more bitter than expected; NY strip steak was medium well, instead of pink throughout). Portions were generous. The mahi mahi special was apparently delicious. Like the ambiance, and will go back.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe quality and creativityThe quality and creativity of the food is always terrific. Very attentive wait staff, eager to please but not overbearing. The fresh menu always make me want to return.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the tots!We very much enjoyed our Restaurant Week lunch. The special menu was varied and generous, especially savored the crab & shrimp tater tots! We'll certainly be back when next in the city.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good Eats at the MarketWent here with the new in-laws the day after our wedding.
The vegetable dishes rock! The fish and chips was a little bland. The whole fish was succulent and cooked just right. We were too stuffed to get dessert but will be back for the vegie dishes and hopefully have room to try the cheesecake.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband got the salmon,My husband got the salmon, which he raved about. It also came with a good-sized portion of veggies, so he didn't feel compelled to order an additional side dish. I'm a vegetarian, and I found great food on the menu - plus, after drinking a couple of the Green-Butted Skunks, everything tastes good!! Great restaurant. Attentive and enthusiastic (but not intrusive) service.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Yum Program in Food - The Wow!Aside from having some of the best service in Seattle - food is always an experience to look forward to. Due to the 3 course restaurant tastings - I am now a fan of the crab tator tots, major yum program. The atmosphere at the market is always energized, but your staff is a major reason I come back. There are few Seattle places that realize that more and more competition is penetrating the market - service and quality of food will rule. Steelhead is an icon restaurant for Seattle - thanks so much for taking care of my friends, clients and ME! Love the place. I have recieved many customer service awards during my career - hats off to you for knowing how to make customers feel special.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe stopped in for lunch. We stopped in for lunch. We were surprised to see how busy it was for a week day. Glad we had reservations! Service was great! Food was great! We had a blast, restaurant was lively and very comfortable!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Pleased (as always!)Seattle Restaurant Week - what a deal. Had the crab/shrimp tator tots for the appetizer and it was delicious. The pesto pasta sounded really good, but flavor-wise was ordinary. Went lighter with the sorbet, which was refreshingly good. My friend had the wilted spinach salad and arctic char - I tried a bit of both and both were excellent! Overall (again) very good... The service was exceptional (very nice and attentive waiter).4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant just "feels"This restaurant just "feels" like Seattle. Great food and very friendly!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA Marketplace GemPopped in there on the spur of the moment (Thanks to OpenTable) and enjoyed Easter Brunch. The food was great and there were a nice selection of options. I plan on going back soon to try dinner. Nice windows to catch the action outside and it's right there in the Marketplace which is a big plus.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a great lunch and thehIt was a great lunch and theh service was outstanding.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMI ordered a Salmon dish andI ordered a Salmon dish and it was excellent. My husband was less pleased with the quality of the steak that he ordered. The pasta dish my son ordered was very good. We ordered from the Dine Around Seattle menu which encluded a nice salad and delicious desserts.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dined during Seattle RestaurantWe dined during Seattle Restaurant month ($30 for 3 courses) and were happy with the portion sizes and the selection (special for that month). Salmon and steak were fantastic, as were the appetizers (crab cake, salad with kale & asparagus). Desserts were also wonderful. Good service - busy busy busy (at least on a Thursday night). Good wine list.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous, except for an overdoneFabulous, except for an overdone steak. Ordered rare, and got medium well.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed the Dine AroundWe enjoyed the Dine Around options. It was nice. Our waiter was very energetic. We enjoyed his recommendations to try the pepper shakers that were on the table and were pleasantly surprised that they were a compliment to our meals.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWent there with my familyWent there with my family from overseas. I was there for dinner before and found the food then more interesting. The lunch menu is a bit blah, even diner-like. It could have been a bit more elegant. The service is great though and the people friendly.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Choice Near Public MarketOutstanding food and great service just steps away from the Public Market sign in Seattle. No reservations were available directly but I was able to get one via open table, Thank You Open Table. The service was good. The atmosphere was good. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone in Seattle and looking for a great dinner location.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe manager and our waitressThe manager and our waitress and waiter were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The caviar pie was scrumptious and can only be found at Steelhead. The crab tater tots were full of crab. The fish and chips are exceptional. The special dinner had a beautiful, fresh salad, perfectly cooked sweet catfish over hominy with wonderful spiced coleslaw and cajun sauce. The special early dinner is a great buy. We love to try these new dishes from Chef Tony. Steelhead's bartender always seems to make delicious cocktails.
One of the best places to dine in Seattle.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first visit toThis was my first visit to the restaurant via Dine around Seattle. It was packed at lunch time, a good sign. Nice views of the market and bay from several tables. Waiter brought an amuse-bouche, unexpected and good. Had an excellent soup and loved the chocolate pecan pie for dessert, a very generous portion. The mahi mahi main dish was a bit too saucy and very uniform in color-a drier grilled piece and some colorful veggies would improve the dish. All in all a good find and right in the market!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the crab cakes ! PlanLoved the crab cakes ! Plan on going there again !3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Great service.Great food. Great service. Love that the restaurant participates in Dine Around Seattle!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMVisited Seattle for businessVisited Seattle for business and Steelhead was on the list of the 3 for 30. I ordered blackened catfish tacos and it had an awesome flavor and generous portion, a dish you can share. I plan to return.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was absolutely delicious. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was as well as could be expected, though I would think an establishment this high end would provide a more exceptional service.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FindTerrific meal.
