Diner Reviews
  • "I think it was our server's first day on the job so disregard the service rating. Food was excellent. Great place to get out of the crowds at the Market for a civilized lunch."

  • "I met a friend here for lunch and ordered my usual chicken and Andouille gumbo. It is consistent so I knew I would enjoy it. Although right next door to Rachel's Ginger Beer in the market, they don't offer her sodas on their menu. We didn't drink alcohol since it was early in the day but opted for lemonade which tasted fresh, not out of a bottle. Overall a satisfactory meal and I chose it for the prime location rather than the culinary aspect of the menu."

  • "When I want to meet up with friends this is the go to spot now. Consistently good food, good service and we all leave feeling happy."

  • "Had lunch with family three months ago (April) and was happy with the decision. Friday evening at 7pm for dinner? Not so much. Long wait, even with a reservation. Inattentive staff, three wrong orders attempting to be served, and one of our party didn't get their meal until we asked three times while the remainder of the entrees had already been served (20 mins prior). 1 for 1 so far, but I always give a place the average of three tries prior to complete dismissal. So, they'll get one more chance at Steelhead, wish them luck."

  • "I took two very good clients to lunch and the food and service were awesome as usual. Never had a bad lunch or dinner here!"

  • "The Razor Clam Chowder was "out of this world" delicious, so glad that we made the effort to find the restaurant AND order their super clam chowder. We also tried the "Cubano" sandwich, which was delicious! The strawberry shortcake dessert was also superb. I met an old friend for lunch there with much effort on our parts ( I was visiting from Hawaii and she had to catch the bus up from Tacoma ). We agreed that we would love to drag our husbands to the Steelhead Diner because we think that the men would love the food too."

  • "I've been a regular patron of Steelhead Diner since it first opened and it's been one of my first choices when entertaining out-of-town guests. Steelhead is quintessential Seattle dining. My one quibble would be that service has always been at best uneven, but forgivable due to atmosphere and food. My last meal at Steelhead was seriously disappointing, and has me questioning when I will return."

  • "Good food but nothing special. Great location if out around Pike Market, but no view from the patio."

  • "I had great expectations about Steelhead but was a bit disappointed. I had the fish and chips which at $20 were a bit pricey for being so run of the mill. The food was ok but did not live up to the hype and price. Someone into group got the fish stew and it was on the bland side and overbooked."

  • "the restaurant was very busy. all of our meals were very tastie and served hot, but with seven people at the table, each meal was delivered seperately. the manager offered to buy our desserts. I would definately return as the food was good, the kitchen was very busy."

  • "The Brutus salad which the server compared to a Ceasar salad was gloppy, tasteless and almost room temperature. There was no acid component. My husband tried the gumbo, which was average and about 1/2 of the bowl was steamed rice. The most enjoyable was the Crab and Shrimp Tater Tots. In past visits the food has been somewhat inconsistent."

  • "Bumbling service, terrible daily special (fried chicken salad - bland, tasteless salad with old fried chicken bits) - very disappointing dinner."
    Dined on 7/7/2014
  • "We had a group of 11, and that may have contributed to this rating. Appetizers were great, but there was a huge time gap between them and the salads. And then the entrees came while we were still eating our salads. Not cool when you are paying top dollar for dinner."

  • "Expensive place considering the lack of ambiance. The service was quite good. Friendly waiters and attentive. The food wasn't consistent, so my dish was excellent, Manila clams, but my friend's halibut dish could have been better. The salad was good, beets and greens nothing special though, but the butter-olive oil-basil to go with the bread, was bitter and didn't taste good at all. The food is better than the ambiance. The ambiance is that of a diner, so I should have listened to that and not have ignored it, my fault, and quite noise. Go for brunch, lunch not dinner if hoping for ambiance."

  • "I am a repeat customer and will ALWAYS recommend the Steelhead Diner to friends both local and visiting from out of town. The menu is always changing with what is in season and best. The local sourcing and partnership with vendors from Pike Place Market makes for original and innovative new menu additions. The staff and kitchen never disappoint."

  • "hadnt been here for awhile. we had been disappointed a year ago but wanted to try it again after mariners game. the service was miserable. the food was cold and disappointing. one would expect cheese on one's cheeseburger right? there are so many other places to go and try i would not waste my money here next time palace kitchen or lola's or anywhere for that matter"

  • "I returned to the Steelhead diner for the chance to enjoy local ingredients in a casual atmosphere with a glimpse of Puget Sound. We received the latter two. Our first courses took 40 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered them, and then the second course arrived minutes later. The waiter apologized as he crammed all the plates onto the table, removing bread plates to make room. The Naughty Nellie Manila clams were absolutely superb, but other dishes were less successful. Goat cheese was substituted for pecorino on my grilled apricot and arugula app, and my husband's beet and arugula salad arrived with a giant pile of frisee and 3 tiny leaves of arugula. Neither substitution was remarked on by waitstaff. Gumbo was a miss. Too bad."

  • "Excellent mussels served a la Vera Cruz - in a red broth. Very tasty. One gripe - we ordered glasses of wine to come with the meal, not immediately. But I spotted the bar tender pouring it immediately when our server approached the bar, so I had to ask the server to bring it over and not let it get warm. Rather inconsiderate, considering they were glasses of white that need to be kept chilled. As a result, I ran out of wine during the meal. But that's the first glitch I've experienced in at least 10 visits, but does account for this review not giving 5 stars."

  • "The food was very good, the service was a little on the spotty side, with dishes for a group of six appearing at odd intervals. It did seem busy and I'm willing to chalk it up to that, but that did detract a bit."

  • "made a reservation based on OpenTable reviews, and was not disappointed. everything was good -- clam chowder, special Copper River salmon on polenta, and chocolate pecan pie. nice combination of flavors and textures, well made. would have liked more fish options on the menu, but at least the special option was delicious. Service was cheerful without being overenthusiastic. would definitely go back!"

  • "Dependable for lunch. Though today the host was a bit flighty and not terribly attentive. And there was a wicked cool breeze coming in chilling the toes. Otherwise it was all good. "

  • "The catfish tacos were sooooo yummy. The portion was enough for two and that would still allow you enough room for a very yummy dessert! The sorbet and chocolate brownie hit the spot perfectly. Oh... I forgot the blood orange beer, awesome. A nice dining and foodie experience."

  • "We had a very nice pre-concert meal out on the deck. The crab cakes were very good."

  • "The food was fantastic, but the service needed help on this busy day. Our drink order was taken right away, but we had to wait for 2 of our party. When they arrived it took quite a while for the server to show up to take their drink order and we ordered our food at the same time. I ordered a starter of their Tater Tots (VERY GOOD) expecting them to arrive in a timely manner. When they didn't arrive I was finally able to flag down our server to ask what the hold up was. He went to the kitchen and came back telling us there was a mix-up and that they would be on the house and that our food would be out shortly. Everything arrived at once, which was ok. Everyone enjoyed their food! I'll give them a 2nd chance to see if their service is better."

  • "Went for brunch and we liked the food. Service was OK, but they were not too responsive. Like our server kept forgetting what we asked and we had to ask for it multiple times. But may be it was because it was crowded. Awesome view of the sound and Pike Place market.. "

  • "We've dined with you many times, however our server last Saturday night seemed very young and new to her job. For several reasons throughout our meal, we were less than satisfied with her service, so I think more training would be beneficial. "

  • "Steelhead Diner was recommended by a co-worker. I was so glad I made reservations. The hostess was wonderful; service was great and the food was excellent. I wanted everything on the menu. This has become a new favorite."

  • "We are big fans of this place and have been coming here for a few years. The fish and chips, gumbo, salmon and mac and cheese are particularly good but we've never had a bad meal. Happy hour, lunch, brunch, a banquet dinner and several regular dinners off the menu have all be great. The server this time was particularly friendly and patient as one of our party was late, and had great recommendations from the drink menu."

  • "I don't know how I have missed this place before, but it's a great find. Right downtown with an excellent view of the water (ask ahead for a water view table!). The food was delicious - we had a mix of apps, salads, and entrees. I definitely plan on dining here again. If you want to go on the weekend make sure you make a reservation! "

  • "I can say that the Steelhead Diner is as "Count-on-able" as it gets for great service, food and dining experience. The seasonal meats, seafood and produce have always been outstanding and the menu changes on a seasonal basis. Taking clients, friends and out of town visitors has always been a fun and awesome!! On our recent visit the Smelt or "Fries with Eyes" were in season and they were sweet and absolutely delicious. There was freshly caught King salmon that was expertly prepared to a perfect medium rare and finished with a brown butter, almond, rosemary cherry sauce that complimented the delicate flavor of the salmon perfectly. The Halibut was prepared expertly and not over cooked as is often the case at many other restaurants. "

  • "The Saturday brunch had just the right amount of choices to please without being overwhelming. We had the salmon with polenta and it was perfect. Our server was great and helped with beverage pairings for our meal. And of course the window view of Elliott Bay and Pike Place Market topped it off. Will recommend it to our friends heading out to Seattle. "

  • "Had the chance to go during restaurant week, and I know, the staff at most restaurants aren't that thrilled about those weeks, yet it does give the casual diner a chance to try out new spots. Steelhead Diner is out of my neighborhood, so restaurant week gives me a chance to take a ferry ride and expand my dining sphere. Happily, it is a short walk up to the Market from the Coleman Dock and a little like an adventure. We were completely delighted by the atmosphere, the wait staff and the menu. Had a great table and lovely, personable, professional server. A perfect, amazing, delicious meal followed, accompanied by a terrific bottle of wine she recommended. Other diners were obviously enjoying themselves, in the ambiance. We will be back! "

  • "Went here the night before my daughter's wedding with a group of 12. They had a perfect table by the window. The service was efficient and the food was excellent. The halibut and the new York strip were standouts The crabcakes were divine. I will return again!"

  • "This restaurant has always been a favorite - it's very accessible, has good customer service, great food and even better fresh squeezed juice cocktails. It's perched above the Market and even though it doesn't have a full view the ambience is very Seattle and really cool and upbeat. Great menu assortment, esp the desserts. Highly recommend it."
