Diner Reviews
  • "Party of 8--all had different appetizers which we enjoyed, especially the Griiled Flatbread and the Potato Chips. Two people had burgers- both agreed the flavor was "okay" but not special. I had the Fusilli, the flavor was "okay" ( there's that word again) but the pasta was over cooked. Other meals were very good. Service, as always, was excellent."

  • "I love the ambiance, and the service is friendly and professional, but the menu is odd and overpriced - a $16 burger that doesn't even come with lettuce and tomato? The best thing I've had so far is the iceberg lettuce salad, but I'm glad I shared it with another person."

  • "Theirs is definitely a limited menu - and they love to put smoke flavoring in almost everything - so it is sometimes a challenge to order. HOWEVER, every meal I have ever gotten is DELICIOUS. This time, I got the Colorado lamb and hubby the burger and we both couldn't have been happier. Kudos to the bartender for making a perfect tequila mojito. Service, as always, was excellent."

  • "Good but not great food a bit pricy for the portions provided"

  • "Steel and Rye is an excellent restaurant. The food is very well prepared, and sauces, gravies, spices, etc are NOT overdone but truly enhance the very fresh food which is the mainstay of the restaurant. The menu selection is well thought out, and the chef does a great job of blending together different flavors in such a way that it all fits rather than seeming strange and unusual. This is now our #1 restaurant or fine dining."

  • "We had really been looking forward to coming here. Two of our dinners were very good, lamb ragout, and fusilli. The spaghetti with mussels and fiddleheads was overpriced @$23, it was virtually all pasta. Drinks were good. Service was attentive."

  • "We've visited here a number of times for dinner, and every time the food has been exquisite! It has an extensive, but expensive, drink menu. My only complaint is the bathroom which is very dark and for some reason they have stools left out. I'm assuming it is for kids to reach the sink and wash their hands. But because of the darkness, it is also very easy to trip over those stools. However, when myself and another diner mentioned the issue to the hostess, she immediately removed the stools. The staff is very attentive. As I have not been back since that time (not because I haven't wanted to go), I don't know if the stools have returned."

  • "We've been enjoying Steel and Rye many time since they opened. They are providing a wonderful experience with meals and deserts."

  • "We enjoyed a great family meal recently at Steel and Rye. We were a party of 10 with three school-age kids and we had a reservation for 4:30pm. The food was fantastic, as were the drinks and wine offerings, and the service was exceptional. We were seated at the oval table right next to the kitchen and had a wonderful family dinner. The place is kid-friendly but the grown ups didn't have to settle for boring food. A big hit with everyone!"

  • "We've been to Steel & Rye before, but this was our first time for brunch. This is a great place to go when you want a civilized, relaxing brunch with an interesting cocktail menu and individually prepared, beautifully plated meals (no trays of cold, self-serve scrambled eggs here). Everything was outstanding. We started with the amazing pork terrine and the toast with jam. Then we had the steak and eggs, the omelet of the day, the eggs Benedict, and the French toast (with bourbon maple syrup - yum). We ended the meal by sharing a doughnut. The hot and iced coffees were delicious. The staff is friendly, competent, and professional. Steel & Rye continues to be the best restaurant in Milton and comparable to the best in Boston."

  • "Imaginative. Fun. Great waitstaff. Terrific host in Dan. We had a truly deep dish chicken pot pie. Lightly curried big scallops. Divine desserts"

  • "A consistently excellent place, I've been more than half a dozen times in the two years since it opened! Really outstanding food, very good service, cool ambiance. Try the lamb meatballs, the charcuterie, the burger, any of the seafood, and the strawberry soup! Worth making a trip out of the city to visit."

  • "My husband and I went to Steel and Rye for the first time on Saturday night and loved it. We'd heard great things about the restaurant and weren't disappointed. The service was excellent, the bar lively and food delicious. We'll definitely be back. I recommend you try it."

  • "I like the food here but they charge too much for it, give real small portions and it is just not fantastic - very good but not great. Plus the wines by the glass are too limited - there is only one chardonnay and it is $12. Same for the reds - no red zinfandel and only one cab. The draft beer list is very good so they got that right. We like the restaurant but there is nothing compelling enough to come back for. I hope they don't evolve in to another Abby Park."

  • "We have been to Steel and Rye a few times, but this time was the best yet! The food was interesting yet not pretentious. Service was spot on; efficient without being rushed. I would highly recommend trying this great restaurant!"

  • "The menu is short but everything was tasty. Great service. Outdoor patio is a treat. Wines by the glass left a little something to be desired - no NZ Sauvignon Blanc? La Marca Prosecco? But bottle list is good."

  • "Went to Steel and Rye with a group of friends on a very busy Thursday night. We were greeted by Kyle the Host who was warm and friendly and we were seated at a comfy table in the corner. The food was amazing, we shared some appetizers and all our entrees were outstanding. We definitely will be back!"

  • "After a small mix-up (I failed to inform ahead that we had reserved a special meal/wine pairing for a party of 6), the manager and sommelier worked together to give us a first-rate experience. We ordered off of the menu and were treated to wine pairings by course. For the main course, one wine didn't fit all, so we received two! The server was very understanding of the situation and treated us well all evening."

  • "A treasure in Milton. Wondering service and food. The wait staff is attentive but not intrusive. The food is fresh and creative. Their desserts are creative and seasonal. The tapioca pudding is just delightful. "

  • "The entree choices were very limited, we weren't offered any nightly specials. Prices were rather high - we weren't blown away by the food, I would say average."

  • "Can't say enough how amazing it is to be "wow"ed at a meal more than once let alone at all. Derek was awesome. Offered great suggestions and pointed us in the right direction. Kudos to the kitchen. Apps were stellar and the two homemade pasta dishes were stunning. Flavor was perfect. I'm not one for sweets but every once in a while, but I can say I was moved by the "Snickers" in a bowl. It takes a lot for me to embrace sweets as I'd rather have a third savory course. This unique adaptation of that quintessential flavor profile was beyond! Again, cheers!!!!"

  • "From the moment we walked in I knew we would like it. Great vibe!! 4 women--split many apps & small plates. Everything was delish but the Burrata & Beet was the winner!! We will be back next month to have it again. A must try!"

  • "We went as a group of 8 and they were very accomidating when making the reservations, even when I had to change to a larger group. All of us had great entree's and tried several of the appetizers which were all fantastic as well. Try this place you will want to go back. "

  • "Great service, including valet, with jumping bar scene. The food is presented well and offers a new twist to American fare. From seafood to meat they cover it all, and try to offer something for everyone. Drinks are great and the wine is too. Beer selection features American craft, so there are a number of new brews to keep you coming back for more."

  • "I've been here about 6 times since Steel & Rye opened, but had yet to come with our kids; in fact I was hesitant to do so. Wish I'd done it sooner! Our party was 6 adults/2 children, & the restaurant couldn't have done a better job. Everyone's food was Excellent. My Waygu Steak was perfectly done, the accompanying romescu sauce smoky & delish. Salmon got rave reviews from my father-in-law. My husband and his mother were thrilled with their burgers. Gnocchietti was so tasty my picky 3 year-old would have eaten her grandmother's entire portion. Good thing the plain elbow pasta & chicken from the kids menu was enough to stuff both my girls. Thank you Steel & Rye, for maintaining such high standards! "

  • "I have been to Steel and Rye multiple times now and have never had a bad experience. The food is so creative and differemt but the flavors always blends so well. The creativity behind the desserts is amazing. One of my favorite parts of this restaurant is the menu is always in flux except for a few staples so there are always new, delicious things to try!"

  • "My husband and I and an another couple ate there Friday night. We were not unhappy with our food but it wasn't as good as it was when it first opened. My husband's spaghetti was an overcooked, clumpy mess. My salmon was fine and the appies were fine. The liquor was also off, the restaurant was out of two brands of rum that we requested."

  • "I loved the look of STEEL & RYE, but was surprised by the very limited menu and lack of dinner specials. The waitress was efficient, but not even remotely friendly. The cocktail I had was excellent and I would certainly give the restaurant another try, but hope they add more salad options to the menu. My bowl of uniform greens was quite boring and overly salty. "

  • "The food, the service and the atmosphere couldn't be beat. Had a lamb meatball appetizer which was well seasoned and delicious. For an entree I had (half of a) pasta dish with sausage and broccoli rabe in a garlic olive oil sauce. So yummy! My co workers were jealous the next day when I had the leftovers for lunch! I will definitely be coming back here!"

  • "We travelled over 40mins to this location (via car) and were not disappointed! Super cool ambience, unique and delicious menu, great service. The delicious "burger omelet " was as good as the wait staff prediction. Tasty lamb meatballs appetizer were super served with poached egg for dipping! Friendly and warm atmosphere. Would love to go back for drinks at the attractive bar."
