The menu at Steakhouse 85 is comprised of fresh and inspiring modern day interpretations of classic American cuisine, served alongside the traditional steakhouse classics we all know and love. The back bone of our menu is without a doubt our beef. Our mouth watering dry aged steaks are rubbed with a simple yet luscious combination of sea salt, black pepper and fresh herbs. They are seared on a 1200 degree cast iron grill and then broiled to your liking. Paired with a large classically designed bar, complete with savvy cocktails and a Wine Spectator award winning wine list, this steakhouse is sure to please.

Diner Reviews
  • "Disappointing steak. Ordered the signature Delmonico. Overcooked and not a great piece of meat. Everything else - appetizers, sides and service great - but left disappointed."

  • "We dined at this restaurant on two occasions this week, and both experiences were fantastic. They worked with us to make site our large parties were accommodated, and the foodand drinks recommendations were spot on."

  • "I made reservations well in advance, but we were seated at the worst table--right by the kitchen. My scallops were OK, but they were served on a bed of tasteless onions, so it really wasn't that appealing. My husband's steak was very good. Our waitress was very nice and efficient, but the bus service kept trying to "rush" us and clear our plates before we were finished. I had a better experience when I had lunch there a few months ago."

  • "My bf and I went for lunch. We had calamari as an appetizer and He ordered the steak and fries and I had the angus burger. I was really disappointed with my food, the burger was so salty, and the calamari was so bland and rubbery. On a positive note, the place looks really nice and the employees are very attentive. Lastly, you have to pay for parking across the street , restaurant does not validate."

  • "We had a great experience at Steakhouse 85. Service was great, the meal well spaced between appetizers, entrée and desert. The food was delicious and steaks were well prepared according to everyone's preference. This was our second visit to this restaurant and once again we had a delightful experience. It is a bit on the pricey side but to be expected in a steakhouse."

  • "Always enjoy an exceptional meal at Steakhouse 85! We were a group of 6, steaks cooked to each person's exact desire. Sides of broccoli au gratin (my favorite) creamed spinach, and potatoes delicious. Friday Date night is such a bargain, we keep returning. Lobster fest has begun addwe will return to feast!!"

  • "We went for the Friday date night special $99 and we certainly got our money's worth. Great food, excellent service and a wonderful ambiance. NYC style dining w/o the tolls and traffic! Will go back again and bring our friends."

  • "This was my second time dining at Steakhouse 85 and I enjoyed it both times. I enjoy to upscale atmosphere, decor and service. I had the petite filet which was excellently seasoned and very tender. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves steak."

  • "Was really looking forward to a great steak dinner. My wife and I shared a 16oz ribeye it was like an ordinary choice pice of meat. The sides laked flavor and the drinks were short pours not expected in a expensive steakhouse. No parking available except at a public garage with a hourly rate.overall disappointed .."

  • "The service meal and atmosphere were impeccable; that's why I'm a repeat customer. The staff goes out if their way to ensure that your dining experience is an enjoyable one."

  • "I took my son here for a nice dinner out based on a recommendation from a friend who attends Rutgers. We were both very disappointed in the quality of the food. The steaks were very expensive which I expected them to be, however the quality was just not there. I found this restaurant not to be on the same par as the more well-known steakhouses. The bread was dry and not good quality, the dessert menu was unexciting, but the sides were well priced and the best part of the meal. The house salad was nothing special despite how good it sounded. My son ordered the wedge salad and it did look good. I would not go back."

  • "The item we saw on line that we decided to go for was no longer available so we were disappointed. Otherwise Typical steak house which is not our scene"

  • "Our steaks were cooked perfectly, the house steak sauce is fantastic. The service was excellent, Carly and the staff were attentive, freindly and efficient. The tiramasu (reccomended) was excellent, one of the best I have had. The atmosphere was steakhouse, but not old feeling and was not overly "man-cave". Our table was next to thw windows, and was perfect. I reccomend this for a special occasion, a romatic dinner, or to entertain out of town clients. We will go back!"

  • "Visited the restaurant for Father's Day dinner. My dad is a big steak eater. Great and fresh cuts of meat, stuffed shrimp was awesome, crab meat overflowed, jazz played in the background...all which made for a great family dinner."

  • "Good food and good food all the time. We have been here several times and always the same"

  • "We are frequent diners there, when the budget can afford it, and we love the place. The food is always wonderful, the staff attentive, and the ambience lovely. The side dishes are priced a la carte but the helpings are plentiful (3 sides are good for a party of 4 or 5) and the prices are pretty reasonable. They usually have a jazz trio or piano player there on the weekends so if you want to be able to hear your fellow diners then ask for a table away from the music; the music isn't overpowering, but it is too loud if you are looking to have conversations."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary having dinner at Steakhouse 85. We had heard great things and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent without being overbearing. Water glasses were always full, empty plates were cleared, and there was a nice time spread between courses so we didn't feel rushed. Everything from the lump crabmeat martini appetizer and fresh warm mozzarella with prosciutto to the bone in ribeye and crab stuffed shrimp were delicious. The creme brûlée dessert was excellent. Two small negative comments are that the bread served was not warm and the cappuccino was lukewarm and we returned it. Overall an excellent experience. "

  • "Ordinary food at extraordinary prices. Very noisy, waiters hovered too much. Clearly created to serve people on expense accounts."

  • "I dont believe that when people are honestly rating something that you can just throw five stars around hap-hazardly. That being said I had no choice but to rate the food five stars! "

  • "Food is outstanding - definitely a bit pricey with City style pricing - but Filet mignon oustanding."

  • "My experience here is as follows: 1.) Great Service / Friendly / Knowledgeable Staff 2.) Food was... ok. For the price you pay, I was expecting a much better meal. Appetizer (muscles) and the entree (steak / mashed potatoes) had no flavor. Lobster was good. Sweet. Please keep in mind I've only been here once and cannot a test to the whole menu. Only what I had. 3.) Atmosphere was a 10! Music, noise level, ambiance, A+++. Overall, I think it's a great restaurant to go have some drinks at the bar with your significant other."

  • "Great food but our waiter barely had a pulse. No personality at all. It was a shame because the food was so good. We were there late until closing and I think he wanted us to leave. I suppose he wanted to go home. Well sorry, I paid my good money for an enjoyable night out, not to deal with a waiter's problem. I'd go back but not to one of his tables. Hire people with a pulse please! "

  • "This is our "go to" place for special occasions. The wine list is extensive with something for every taste and they make an excellent cosmopolitan. The food is excellent, outstanding. The steaks are better than any I've had at Ruth's Chris or Morton's and their seafood is much better. We love their special events (scotch , beer and wine dinners) and their commitment to New Brunswick and to Rutgers University makes them a much valued member of the community. Also, it doesn't have to be a special occasion to go to Steakhouse 85. Their Friday Night Date Nights and other promotions can make the experience very affordable. Finally, the service is top notch! The staff is very well trained and the Manager ALWAYS stops by the table."

  • "Great little upper end steakhouse in the area if you're looking for a slightly fancier evening out than the usual pubs and restaurants in New Brunswick. You have to pay for parking if you want the convenience of right across the street but if you don't mind walking a bit (and are willing to trust your car to the streets) street parking is available not far away. For a Friday night, there wasn't a lot going on but the food and atmosphere is good. "

  • "Everyone in our dining group of 6 agrees Steakhouse 85 is an wonderful place to dine. Service, food, atmosphere and drinks were more than 5 stars. This is a must place to dine if you are ever in the East Brunswick NJ area. I am going to find a way to make a special trip back to NJ just to have dinner here again. "

  • "This was my 1st time at Steakhouse 85 and it was a most pleasant surprise. Steaks are excellent, but they also have a very good seafood selection as well; not just an afterthought as at many steakhouses. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful. All in all, it was a most pleasant experience and I will definitely return."

  • "I would of been better off @ Fridays. If you want to spend this type of $$$ for a steak stick to the consistent reputable places like Ruth Chris, Capital Grill, Flemings or Mortons. Its just not worth it but glad I tried it to kill my curiosity. Far from Romantic too. Steaks were like Fridays but with Ruth Chris Pricing...My wife had the Filet Migon & I had the Delmonico. Clams appetizer was ok. Bread taste old. Only above par item was their French Onion soup. "
