Steakhouse 85 is a 21st century rendition of the classic American Steakhouse. The menu at Steakhouse 85 is comprised of fresh and inspiring modern day interpretations of classic American cuisine, served alongside the traditional steakhouse classics we all know and love. The back bone of our menu is without a doubt our beef. Our mouth watering dry aged steaks are rubbed with a simple yet luscious combination of sea salt, black pepper and fresh herbs. They are seared on a 1200 degree cast iron grill and then broiled to your liking. Paired with a large classically designed bar, complete with savvy cocktails and a Wine Spectator award winning wine list, this steakhouse is sure to please.

Diner Reviews
  • "Entertained a group of 6 at this restaurant. Was truly impressed with the food and service. My clients were still talking about dinner a few says later. A must try Gem in New Brunswick."

  • "steak was pretty good, not great. and prices were a little high, even for a steakhouse. For $47, the sirloin strip should have been absolutely top notch. the starters and sides were excellent. the wine list was seriously over-priced; with one or two exceptions, the mark-up was 300-400% over retail. the service was very professional and prompt."

  • "Very good select your own ingredients Salad bowl. Extensive list of ingredients including choice of lettuces, cheeses, meats or shellfish, veggies fruits and nuts. A little pricey but well worth it for what you get. Service is very fast 30- 45 minutes for lunch,"

  • "My wife and I enjoy trying new places and there are so many out there that it takes an amazing restaurant for us to repeat. We both enjoyed Steakhouse 85 but agreed that it wasn't a place that we felt the urge to back to. The service was excellent but lacking personality... The restaurant is excellent but lacks character. I really enjoyed the jazz music, but unfortunately they didn't start until 7pm. The owner (im assuming that's who it was) walked by us a few times, but didn't ask us how things were. I had to ask for a second glass of wine. The food was good but my steak could have been seasoned a bit more. Steakhouse 85 is very nice, but doesn't compare to the city's steakhouses except in price. Try Churrascaria Plataforma in NYC!"

  • "I found the restaurant disappointing. I chose the place because it was next to the stress factory and we didn't want to be late for the show. Last time I pick a restaurant based on proximity. The steak was decent to good. I think they priced their menu (other than the prixe-fixed, which if I go back will opt for) thinking that they are in NEW York not NEW Brunswick. The sides which are usually the best part of a steak house were amateurly prepared. Cream spianch too buttery, onion rings greasy, shoe strings fries were good. I was hoping to find a good steak house in this area, but I will have to keep looking"

  • "Steakhouse 85 offers a great deal on Friday nights. Dinner for 2 with wine and dessert for $99. The filet mignon just melts in your mouth! My spouse had the Grouper, another tasty dish. Our server Issa was the best! As this was not our first time there, I have to say that overall, the servers are friendly, professional and attentive! Great restaurant for a special occasion or a nice night out for dinner."

  • "It's a bit pricey but great for special occasions for steak lovers. We went for out anniversary dinner and the waiter was very friendly and gave us a whole lesson about different cuts of steak and how they prepare it. The steaks were very delicious, of course."

  • "The steaks were excellent, atmosphere is very comfortable with tables spaced far enough apart so it doesn't feel crowded. Service was excellent and they were very welcoming. One warning, don't click on the link on their website on your mobile device to get directions. Using Google maps, you will be routed to some little church on the edge of the Rutgers campus... not 85 Church Street in New Brunswick."

  • "Our party of 4 was seated in the area when you first walk in. When the band was playing, the music was so loud that communicating with our table was very difficult. I love the food there, but the seats further from the band are definitely the way to go."

  • "Noise level can get a bit high for "business meeting" dinners. Food/Steak was great! Service was good (but not more than "good"). Desert menu somewhat weak. Needs Valet Parking!"

  • "I was excited to find out there was a steak house in my immediate area and very pleased the food was wonderful."

  • "Setting the bar high is one thing. Maintaining it is another. Steakhouse 85 seems to keep rolling along. I don't like surprises (except something new on the menu). I like a consistent dining experience and that is among the things Steakhouse 85 excels at. Best of all, don't be afraid to ask for something off-menu. The kitchen almost always seems to come up with a solution. They keep doing well and I keep coming back. Simple."

  • "Best bar in Central NJ......Great detail is exercised by wait staff and kitchen to prepare delicious meals. What makes our friends and us travel from Princeton is not only the great steaks and seafood, wonderful bar and staff, but Mattie's great taste for top flight jazz... While many restaurants prepare great meals, Steakhouse 85 has great food and much more."

  • "Excellent food and superb service. Would recommend this restaurant to friends. The Friday special is a great bargain and the meal was really good. Restaurant was bright and extremely clean. The wait staff was incredibly attentive and there was never a time when we had to ask or wait for anything."

  • "Food is obviously pricey, and at times I don't really think paying $13 for 4 small scallops is really worth it... but they are delicious so I keep doing it! Lobster risotto is amazing. Wait staff is on point, very attentive and very nice. Desserts are all AMAZING."

  • "Was quite disappointed with our second meal here; the first was fair at best and the second was consistently fair; apps were cold, steaks were not much better if at all better than the big box chains. There were only 4 in our party and bill was over $400; the price is in line with a high end steak house but the food and was not. From cold and unseasoned to medicare preparation. Fair, is the best overall review."

  • "After recommending this restaurant for a family dinner, I found myself apologizing for the wait staff. The door hosts were pleasant and accommodating; the jazz playing in the background was delightful. The bar and table wait staff however were not impressive and lacked enthusiasm. Considering the fact that this was our first visit, I was very disappointed. If I do visit again, I will likely attempt a seat at the bar for a cocktail before heading over to dine at a nearby restaurant."

  • "This is a real steakhouse and worthy of that label. Food was tasty and spinach salad that came with Friday night pre fix was not just tasty but also creative. The grouper entre was also a winner. The Friday $99 is a great deal- that is the price for two people and it includes a bottle of wine ($25 value). But you won't leave stuffed and we were disapointed that the soup appetizer was a cup not a bowl. I upgraded to the full steak and they were happy to let me just pay the $10 difference. 1 side for two people is a bit stingy and I imagine they have a near 100% of patrons adding on. But still, it's a good deal. Be advised the bar charges New York not New Brunswick cocktail prices. So again, bill ratchets up quick."

  • "I really like this place. Good quality food and ambiance was good. Only thing I didn't like was the noise level and the temperature inside. It was extremely loud and It was very cold inside. Other than that, good place."

  • "I took a friend for her birthday. It was terrific. We both chose to eat a salad. We were given a long sheet of ingredients we could select to put in our salad. I had a large crqb cake on top of it; my friend had a large portion of sirloin steak on top of it.n The caramel apple tart was delicious."

  • "When you include the word Steakhouse in your restaurant name, you better deliver outstanding steaks - Streakhouse 85 lives up to its name and more! From the very attentive service to the incredible steaks and seafood, our first experience dining at this restaurant definitely won't be our last. Owner Matt introduced himself to each table, inquiring as to our satisfaction and thanking us for dining with them. Our waiter, Michael, did not hover but seemed to know when to appear at our table and the food was delicious. The restaurant itself is lovely...plenty of space between the tables and very tastefully decorated. Great bar area and live music which added a nice touch without being overwhelming. Top notch all the way!"

  • "To celebrate the conclusion of my colleague's stay with us, I treated her to dinner at Steakhouse85.Everything was lovely until I got the bill.I knew it would be expensive, but I did not expect to pay over $350.00 for two meals and one bottle of Napa valley Sauvignon Blanc.I did not notice until after I paid and we left, but I was charged for a Tomahawk steak when I ordered, and was served, a NY strip steak with an add on Lobster tail (at the add on price of about $26.00).Since my husband is a professional executive chef an a graduate of th CIA at St. Helena in Napa Valley, I was hoping to surprise him with dinner for two either for his birthday or for Valentine's day.The food was excellent, but the bill left a really bad taste in my mouth."

  • "Besides its excellent steakhouse menu, 85's wine list is only modest because of the number of choices...but what choices! An excellent list of quality bottles at extremely competitive prices. Go on Sunday and every bottle is half-off! We had a delicious Nickel & Nickel for less than I could buy it retail. Who knew?"

  • "Just a compliment to the Restaurant for hosting a group of over 10 with less than 24 hrs notice. The wait staff was good ( probably could have used a few more hands with the demanding crew we had but all in all a very good evening. Everyone left happy and well fed."

  • "We were seated promptly and staff was very polite. We were seated right at 8:15 pm. We started out with an appetizer of clams. Flavor was decent and didn't have any complaints to this point. Our drinks were refilled quickly. Our steaks finally came out around 9:30. Both steaks were cooked perfectly (filets Rare/Medium Rare). We also had the lobster mac and cheese which was okay but not good enough to justify the extra cost from the regular mac n cheese. Dessert was to us by 10:15 and we were out the door by 10:45. My biggest gripe was the time. It took 2 and a half hours from the time we were seated which was a bit much. The table next to us was seated 15 minutes after us and were finished with their meal before we got our entrees."
