Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I ate at Steak 44 over the weekend. Beautiful restaurant and nice bar area. The drinks and bread were great as was the service. The food overall was disappointing. My husband is a ribeye fan and was very disappointed by the ribeye ($46). It was tough and didn't really have any flavor. Mushroom side was good but brussel sprouts didn't have much flavor either. With a name like Steak 44 - you really have to get the steak part right! I don't think we'll go back unless food improves."

  • "Wonderful food. Very attentive service. Only disappointment was that I had noted in open table reservation that it was two birthdays. No mention was made by the servers of the birthdays and no birthday dessert was offered."

  • "Food was reasonable and very good. The lobster mash potatoes were bland and need something added to taste better. Steaks are reasonably priced and very good taste."

  • "Doesnt come close to my favorite steakhouse in Chicago. However, once you get beyond the unoriginal and less than charming name, Steak 44 is reasonably priced with superior service. The strawberry cake dessert was dry resulting in the regular table cookies being much more pleasing - put a little extra oomph and time into your desserts. Nothing beats a classic and perfectly garnished creme brûlée."

  • "Great service by Troy, enjoyed the evening, ribeye is just to die for!! Needed nothing with it, just outstanding. However, did have some sides of mac n cheese and it was delicious and brussels sprouts were good, but a little hard, but very tasty! Great special occasion dinner place to add to my list of restaurants! Thanks."

  • "I ordered a bone-in ribeye with sauteed blue cheese on top. It was too much blue cheese flavor, drowning out the natural ribeye flavor...so I started scraping the blue cheese off the steak as much as possible. Our waitress, Haley, noticed what I was doing and alerted her manager, who came tableside to see if anything was wrong. I told him it was my mistake and I'd live with it. Not five minutes later, Haley and the manager returned with a brand new, perfectly cooked and sizzling 24-oz. bone in ribeye and replaced the original one with the blue cheese on it. How many restaurant's would do that? The combination of excellent food and excellent service makes Steak 44 one of the best dining experiences we've ever had."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we we've been talking about the food ever since. Between the both of us, it was the best food and service we've ever had."

  • "Our waiter Cooper was excellent, even provided us with a history lesson of Steak 44 and the homage to Cork and Cleaver. The food was excellent. We shared a Cesar salad with a poached egg and the calamari and shrimp appetizer. The poached egg on the salad was a new experience. Our steaks were perfectly prepared. The smaller ala carte sides allowed us to have a more variety of sides with our meal. It was my husband's birthday, so of course we had dessert. Knowing we were stuffed, Cooper picked us a light dessert. A brûlée topped pound cake topped with gelato and strawberries. It was amazingly good. It was a delicious end to a delicious meal. We also loved that the booths are almost like private rooms."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Steak 44. The service was excellent: professional but not stuffy. Good cocktails, great steak cooked exactly right (though the cajun-style rub on the strip steak was unexpected) and good sides."

  • "Steak 44 is one fantastic dining experience! The food was amazing, the service was impeccable and the overall atmosphere was second to none. Having dined at some of the best steakhouses in the country, we would rate Steak 44 in the top three along with Peter Luger's in NY and Harry Caray's in Chicago. We would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great food and great service in a great setting."

  • "Wow, myself and 3 friends enjoyed our dinner here on Saturday night. My expectations were high after reading Seftel's review in the paper. I was not disappointed on bit. The service was incredible, the food great, the wine list amazing. We will be back, when we can afford to go again."

  • "Finally had a chance to check out Steak 44. Had been to the previous "Cork & Cleaver" on many occasions while growing up in Phoenix. Was not disappointed. Food and service were very good. Will definitely be back."

  • "A truly terrific restaurant. the menu is interesting and there are many choices for non steak eaters. Those that had steak at our table said it was the best steak ere."

  • "We were seated next to the bar. Very noisy; took a while to adjust. Steaks were outstanding. Had sweet potatoes and creamed spinach as sides. Spinach was a little dry and the potatoes seemed to be a bit salty. Portions were good. If we go again, we would request a seat not so close to the bar, tho that may/may not be possible."

  • "Everything was super great except that our party was stuck away in a corner to celebrate a birthday. I could see if we were a romantic couple but we were family and wanted to be with the action. Poor judgement by hostess...."

  • "The restaurant is so stylish, inside and out, even in the summer. The menu made my dinner selection so difficult, I wanted it all. Began with blood orange martini and the night only got better. Service was excellent, food perfect. It is a lot to eat, so only for special occasions for me, but I am sure every trip there will be special."

  • "Just kidding. We had a great table, overlooking the kitchen, and quieter than most of the other parts of the restaurant. I had a wonderful Ceasers salad with an egg on top. Bone in filet was both tender and had rich beefy flavor , not an easy combination to achieve. We ordered sides , some great some boring. French fries were kind of sleepy, no crisp potato taste. Corn Creme brûlée was a hit. Creamed corn finished with a toasty sugar coating on top. Mushrooms were flavorful and not just crimini but it seemed to be an assortment of types. The restaurant comped 2 deserts as it was wifey's birthday. Carmel corn in a hot fudge Sunday was the star. Service was stellar. Go there! It will be worth it!!"

  • "We went here to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday. We'd asked for a quieter table. I don't think they have many quiet tables. I think they did have a few out of the way tables, but they were for four people. We were only 2 people so were at a tiny table. That was my only disappointment. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. Food was great! Service was great!"

  • "The food & service were amazing. I will recommend this place to everyone I know!!! I can't wait to go back. They even did a follow up call the day after, I've never experienced that in all of my years! Definitely sets the bar high for other area dining spots."

  • "We were cork n cleaver fans but Steak 44 1st visit made us forget about the salad bar and cleaver menus. We were asked if we wanted a quiet area (yeah) and it was cozy and quiet. Can't wait to try more and more items on the menu. Our ribeye and potatoes ..I could go on and on. Evey"

  • "Great steak and awesome bread. Would not order crispy asparagus again as it had no flavor. Recommend ordering steak rarer than you would normally, due to the fact that it still cooks quite a bit on the sizzling plate when served."

  • "I ate there 2 nigths in a row and was very pleased and satisfied with everything, what a treat, the food, the staff was excellent and well worth the price, from Iowa and can't wait to go back, Bon Appetit !!!"

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Steak 44. We were pleasantly greeted and sat immediately. Shawn and Reggie are fantastic and set the mood for the evening, but I'm sure all the staff are great at what they do. We had fried asparagus sticks, broccoli and baked potatoes, all were delicious. My wife had the 8oz filet mignon and I had the 22oz ribeye, both were perfect! They topped the meal with a delicious Birthday surprise dessert. We look forward to our next dining experience there."

  • "This is sitting in the same place as the well known Cork n Cleaver spot on 44th/Camelback. A little reluctant as the Cork n Cleaver was a gen of Phoenix...but, OH MY GOD...it was SO SO good! NOT cheap...but the old saying goes "you pay for what you get'. Comfortable, cozy, classy feeling inside, great, fun music in the backgroud, lively, but elegant. Great bar area (great for people watching I may add). The meat, the sides, the after dinner cocktail all made for a great b-day dinner here and Steak 44. I'd go back in a heart beat!"

  • "Met friends for a wonderful, almost 3 hour meal. Nicole took good care of us, recommending wines and foods that interested us. The place was bustling, tables full and lounge busy with Friday night energy. The fresh oysters are cool & perfectly textured. Crab cakes hold a lot of meat. The bone-in steak was tasty and cooked to our liking. Fabulous experience....they do a very good job and respect the fact we pay a lot for the service and food...wanting their efforts to sync with our expectations."

  • "This was my first time at 44, it was a Thursday night and the place was packed. Food was amazing, had the fried deviled eggs, shrimp cocktail, 12oz filet, sides were Dominick's potatoes and brussels sprouts. Everything was fantastic, service was very good. Only drawback was that we were seated right next to the bar area and our table was separated by 6 inches from a table in the bar by a small rail."

  • "Wow....this place blew me way. I absolutely loved the ambiance...we were seated in a small glass booth and it was excellent for having a great conversation without feeling confined. The petite filet was honestly one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. The seasoning on top was mouth watering. Our two sides were also very delicious. We will definitely be back."

  • "I am hearing impaired. They seated us in a noisy area which was difficult for me, so I asked to be moved and they were very helpful!! We eat out a lot (3-4x a week) and know good food. The steaks were excellent and the service was helpful without being overbearing. We'll be back soon."

  • "Tables were too close. Loud party next to us with constant traffic from restaurant staff to that table bumping our chairs. Our food was brought out after two parties who ordered well after us...very slow from kitchen. One of the parties that received food before us actually arrived at their table after we had placed our order. Steak was great. Side dishes were small and sweet potatoes were not very good. Desserts were very good."

  • "First visit to Steak 44. Anniversary dinner for my wife and myself. We arrived early and the staff seated us immediately. Server was very professional and kind. She accomodated every request without hesitation. Exactly how we treat our clients. Food was very good, exactly as ordered. Timing was perfect, never felt rushed. We will be back, Thanks"

  • "From the moment we stepped from our car, we were treated like royalty! Friendly staff everywhere! Loved the bar scene and especially how you could see the totally amazing windowed kitchen. Our waiter, from Charleston was great, there when you needed, never hovering. The soft shell crab was better than any east coast restaurant, sauce superb. The best steaks anywhere, we tried 3 of the bone in steaks, I preferred the rib eye, but all were wonderful. The brussel sprouts were plain, potatoes good, bread the best, served in a skillet! Can't wait to go back!"
