Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is the only one in a 5 block residential radius so they enjoy a "forced" clientele base. The food and menu are good but the host/hostess, wait staff and general service are really lacking consistency and any sense of management. "

  • "only reason to go here is that it is close to Arena Stage. Otherwise disappointing all around. "

  • "This relatively new place was nicely decorated but the proximity of the dining area to the bar results in way too much noise. The food was good but the portions very small for the price. The wait staff was accompdating when we complained about the wind coming in through the opened door to the outside patio. Too bad it isn't as good as it could be because it could draw in more people going to the theaters."

  • "Ordered from the pre-theatre menu before an Arena Stage event. It was okay and fit the bill but otherwise Station 4 would not be sought out by us."

  • "Wonderful bargain on Monday nights... special 3-course dinner, good value. Beer pairings possible; think of it... beer with desert!"

  • "While I don't frequent the SW neighborhood, I always go out of my way to brunch at this place! Nice bar, lovely decor, and nice patio! Only sugestion for those sitting on the patio, most of the tables outside are not covered so on hot days, sit inside. It was hot on Saturday!"

  • "We went to to Station 4 before seeing a play at Arena Stage and chose the pre-theater limited fixed price menu. The service was spotty, at best. Our server seemed to disappear from time to time and was nowhere to be found when it was time to order the (included) dessert or to pay the bill. While the restaurant was full and busy, the choices were quite limited, which should have meant better service. The beet tartar appetizer was so small; it was really the size of an appetizer on a tasting menu. Will give it another try, but I think it needs some fine-tuning."

  • "Very convenient for dinner before attending a performance at Arena Stage. Pris Fix menu was appealing. Service was inconsistent. Portions were small. One is better off ordering off of the regular menu."

  • "Station 4 was packed at our late brunch on Saturday. There were several large parties going on and the noise level was through the roof! The food was good, as it usually is, but the din was so great we could barely hear our table mates. The server struggled to keep pace with the table of twelve adjacent to the four persons in our party. While we all enjoyed our food, departing was a pleasure as the roar of the crowd distracted greatly from our enjoyment of the overall experience."

  • "This is about the only restaurant for a pre-theatre dinner near the Arena. I really like that you can return after the show for the dessert included on the pre-theatre menu. Food was OK. Not bad, not special. A few too many wilted non-edible greens in the salad. Someone in the kitchen needs to check before the salads go out. Outside seating was nice. Inside was noisy even after the show when the dining room was about two thirds empty."

  • "Food was good, but a little pricey for the quality. We went on Friday evening and it was much too loud for a quiet conversation. The bar section was full of noisy, happy hour patrons. There should be some kind of noise barrier for the benefit of diners looking for a nice quiet meal. The waiter provided excellent recommendations."

  • "Very handy for those interested in a meal before or after going to a play at Arena Stage. The setting is pleasant but the noise level is really annoying. We had a hard time having a conversation over the din! The food was good but not exceptional. Service was good. I might try dining there one more time although if the noise is as loud, it will be the last time. Too bad as it is about the only really nice restaurant in the area!"

  • "Station 4 has a great menu and service is good. Orlando does a nice job keeping it interesting but it's expensive. I would go more often but my small group of 6 all had nice things to say about the food but each and everyone complained when it came time to pay up."

  • "We apparently arrived just after the theater crowd and a nationals game, so they were slammed. We were a little frustrated with how long it took us to be seated (we had a reservation), and at times you could tell they didn't have enough people on the floor (lots of unbussed tables, hostess was helping get plates and silverware for customers). Our server was very good though, and quickly caught on that this was my wife's birthday, and offered a free glass of wine when she wasn't very happy with her initial choice. The food was delicious. We had the pork and lamb, and both were cooked perfectly. The appetizer: room temperature and didn't come with plates, we were grumpy, but again, our waitress made up for it with personable service."

  • "We ate here because of the proximity to the Arena theater. We were so sorry. The food was bland and unappetizing. The service was slow. The prices were high. The manager did apologize for which we were grateful. But all in all not a good experience."

  • "Met up with a friend for Sunday brunch. The restaurant is located right by the Waterfront metro stop making it very convenient. Was seated promptly once I arrived even though my friend hadn't arrived yet. Once she arrived our order was taken pretty quickly. But it took forever for our food to be brought to the table! We suspect that she forgot to put our order in. :). Anyway once it arrived, food was pretty good. I got the farm fresh omelet with a side of home fries and my friend got the biscuits and gravy with a side of French fries. We were quite pleased with the food. For drinks, we got the Sunrise and Waterfront Mimosa (not bottomless) and they were tasty. Overall, we had a good experience and I would return."

  • "Consistently good food, terrific service, and welcoming atmosphere...happy to have a restaurant of this quality in walking distance from Arena Stage."

  • "Showed up on time to a crowded line in front of a poorly placed hostess station. Once I told them I had arrived they sat me and my girlfriend right away which was great, but we were never greeted by our waiter. After 10 minutes I pulled the hostess aside and asked when our waiter was coming, to which she said he should have come by and that she was going to immediately get him. Once another 10 minutes passed we decided to leave. Poor service like that does not deserve to be compensated. I can't adequately judge the food since I never did eat any of the food, which is why I am giving it a neutral 3."

  • "I'm pretty sure the only people who worked here were the hostess, ONE poor guy in the kitchen, two bartenders and a bunch of bussers. No servers. Other possible explanation: I'm invisible. In the first twenty-five minutes, my water was filled three times. Nobody spoke to us though. So, I moved to the bar. My order was taken immediately, but the food took 45 minutes. 45 minutes for two omelets, two side salads, and one order of fries. People who arrived after me, ordered after me and received their food BEFORE me were angry. I wanted to tell them to imagine how I felt watching them walk in the door and then eat and leave before mine arrived. The food was fine, the omelets and fries saved me from saying the food was poor. Don't bother."

  • "We made 1:15p reservations for a party of 6. At least half of us showed at 12:54p. We checked in with the host, who didn't seem to be happy or comfortable in her role. In fact, she never addressed me - the person who made the reservations; she kept talking to everyone else. The restaurant took way too long to seat us. We weren't seated until 20 minutes after our reservations, even though everyone was present at 1:12p. They never apologized or anything for their disorganization or failure to adhere to our reservations. Instead, the host was struggling with customer relations and it was very apparent. I was not satisfied in the least bit, because service was also slow and we didn't receive any apologies or discounts."

  • "We had 1PM reservations for 2 weeks and once entering into the restaurant, our reservation was not available. We waited close to an hour to be seated. The hostess did her best, but was not great at communicating. She told us our wait would be 10 minutes. That was not true. WE had to sit outside, THEN moved inside. Then once inside, we were told that our table was for another party that came in the same time as us WITHOUT a reservation. We had a reservation. After being upset and express my agitation, the manager allowed us to sit at the table. She also gave us compliment appetizers. Great food, but bad hosting service. Our server, on the other hand was great!"

  • "Took my parents here for brunch before the Waterfront festival and so glad I did. There weren't too many other restaurants around the Waterfront metro stop to choose from, so Station 4 was an easy choice. The ambiance is unique and ornate with larger tables and chairs for groups and fancy chandeliers. The service was excellent - our waiter made sure our glasses were full, whether it be tea, water, or bellini. The food was delicious and filling. Prices were very reasonable."

  • "The food is good. Perhaps because of the proximity to the Arena Stage, the atmosphere is crazy; not a good dining experience because of the noise level and the level of stress the wait staff appear to be under. It is one of the "few games in town" if you want a meal before an Arena performance but it is not a relaxing experience."

  • "They have a pre-theater menu, which is very convenient for the Arena Stage. This was our second visit. The first time the food was good and the service of our particular waiter was excellent. Yesterday the food was mediocre and the service was rushed and we had a hard time attracting the attention of our waiter. And it was very noisy. I guess that was the luck of the draw."

  • "There were things about this restaurant that were very good (Pappardelle, Apple and celery soup), but overall it was so-so. The manicotti could have been a frozen dinner, except that the chicken was a little fresher. The dessert choices for the pre-theater menu were skimpy (We can't have the lava cake, really?) Our first choice for wine was not available. We ordered our second choice and the waitress brought the wrong bottle to the table. The restaurant has potential, but they are not there quite yet."

  • "The food was quite good, but not outstanding. Like much restaurant food, it was a bit too salty.. The service was quite good. I had a deadline - ticket to Arena Stage - and the waiter coped quite nicely. The bar scene is "quite vibrant" and the noise spills over into the restaurant. I feel that it is hard to carry on a conversation, especially when the both the restaurant and the bar are relatively full."

  • "Met up for a quick lunch before the Home Opener. Had the lunch special and was pleased that you got 3 items (house salad, 1/2 sandwich, and soup of the day), which was just the perfect amount. Ordered a sprite but when it tasted like club soda and she went to replace it, she informed me that no soda was available. I get that things break, no biggie, but at least make sure the servers know in advance of any orders. Also service was a tad slow given that we were one of the first to be seated. Overall, was very good and I'd definitely go back. Had the Cuban and cream of carrot soul....yum to both!"

  • "We were wet, cold and hungry when we arrived at Station 4 late Sunday afternoon, March 30, after a semi-harrowing drive through snow and flooding streets. What a treat to be taken care of by Tim, our server. His wine suggestion was spot on, and we enjoyed an outstanding bottle of chardonnay. The apple salad, the salmon with Japanese-style vegetables and the cheescake were especially tasty and inventive. This was our second visit to Station 4, and we look forward to a third visit before long."

  • "Good for pre-theatre dining as early as 5, as it gets noisier towards 6:30/7:00. Food is great, service is good. Table for two small but not a problem. Great proximity to Arena Stage. On-street parking with Parkmobile payments makes it easy to add money to meters if needed."

  • "This was our fifth trip to this restaurant as it is convenient for pre-theatre at Arena Stage. In all previous visits, something was not right. Either the order was incorrect/incomplete, the food was not good, the service was incomplete...something would always go wrong just enough to make us wonder why we return. We found out this week when the restaurant got it all right. The food and service was perfect. Had this happened before, Station 4 would have always been a please to relish rather than one to endure. Apple salad was delicious (if a bit overdressed), Chicken Manicotti was hot, fresh, and tasty, the Mexican chocolate gelato was worth a trip back! I'm looking forward to next time."

  • "The bottomless brunch was everything! my server kept the drinks flowing, until we said stop. I did enjoy the meal as well. The price was great for the amount of food and limitless drinks."

  • "If you don't want to drive, get decent on street parking, Station 4 is the way to go. The biggest drawback are the tiny tables for groups of 2. Every time (6) that I've been there the silverware had to be traded in numerous times. Food, bottle of wine, water and silverware doesn't fit on those tiny tables."

  • "It looks great from the outside and in. But the circular tables are far too smal for even one person. I sent the SW Rye drink back because it tasted like a poorly made Cosmo with no booze. The gin fizz wasn't any better, tasting like a sweetened lime cooler, again light on the booze but I settled. My short rib was deliciously moist but unseasoned. The pappardelle was underdone, way before al dente and the sauce was nonexistent. My wife's pizza was delicious though. The crust was crispy and had a hint of sweetness. Overall, $95 for a subpar meal. We will not be going here again. The food is overpriced, period. I saw it while checking out the menu but thought we'd give it a try. Tried, no need to repeat or recommend."

  • "...it's a restaurant that makes me realize how spoiled we're becoming in DC. There's nothing wrong with Station 4, it's just that the food does not stand up to its price point compared to similar restaurants in DC. Station 4 has an excellent location for folks going to Arena Stage just around the block, which is why we gave it a try. Our waiter was good, but the carafe of watered down Sangria did not taste like Sangria we've enjoyed in Barcelona, which is how it's advertised in the drink menu! We each tried the pre-theater menu, and the food was more of the same: it tasted okay, but it should taste better at this price point. I give them kudos for a visually interesting interior, and overall Station 4 is a nice addition to the Waterfront!"

  • "I was actually recommended to Station 4 from my cousin. After I researched some reviews, I had mixed emotions about trying it out myself. I called up a couple of cousins and we decided to meet there! Boy was I wrong for doubting this place.... I had an amazing time there. Our waiter was very friendly and eagered to serve us. I had the brunch special which was $30 for endless bloody mary/mimosas! The waiter never missed a beat on refills of mimosas :) I ordered the steak with eggs, DELICIOUS!!!! Overall, I would recommend everyone to try to this place -- my only advice would be to reserve ahead of time...it was getting pretty crowded. I'll definitely be back soon! Thanks again Station 4 staff & chefs"

  • "So as one of the only SW restaurants that offers brunch and with a lovely outdoor patio, I convinced my friend group to come down on Saturday for a bottomless mimosa brunch. I've been coming here for 3 years and 2 years at the brunch there. Their mimosas have always been a great ratio of bubbly and orange juice. This time, I felt like i was drinking pure orange juice. After accepting the first two mimosas as perhaps a bad batch, we said something to our waiter. When he returned with new ones that weren't any different, we refused them. Dutifully, he went straight to bar and made us a new batch that actually tasted fantastic. But they quickly returned to OJ. STATION 4, WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? FIX YOUR OJ RATIO OR LOSE CUSTOMERS!!!!!!"
