Diner Reviews

  • "We came in just for late night desert and a wine flight. Desert was great. We each tried 3 wines, and not a good one between all 6. A little disappointing. The service was great, but not many people there late at night, not sure how it is when busier."

  • "Service was very slow, food was generally pretty good although the salmon sandwich i had was not good. bathrooms were disgusting which is not a good sign for an upmarket restaurant."

  • "You just have to try Pierre La Fond to know what a real bistro experience is like, I had the Squash Ravioli, followed by the pumpkin spice pudding (soooooo, good), great wine, great coffee, my friend had a burger that looked like a piece of art."

  • "Happy hour wine list and menu is great. Waited a little while for outside table with reservation. Bartender was great, hostess was nice. Service was slow and or nonexistent. Waited 10 minutes for the waitress to come, then had to ask for water and rollups from others. Is there a busser? New glasses of wine were brought, but the old empty ones weren't taken. Maybe I'll be back for happy hour but there are so many other places to go I proboably won't be."

  • "Had a great dinner here after a day of shopping. The menu offerings seemed a bit off season, but everything w head was great none the less. Great wine selection."

  • "Fresh, healthy and delicious fare, with a great wine list! We love the fact that they consciously accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free diets with really tasty chef-inspired creations. Sustainable fish also!"

  • "We were on our way to a weekend of wine tasting in Los Olivos...stopped here for a late lunch and LOVED it! It was cozy, quaint and still modern and eclectic at the same time. Staff was very friendly and food was excellent. Hubby had the vegetarian chili and almost had to wrestle me to keep it. It came on the lunch menu paired with a steak/beef sandwich and he loved it. I had the kale salad with 1/2 sandwich and it was great. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing afternoon on State St."

  • "Went here for lunch, sat outside overlooking state street. Food was excellent, and the lunch deal was good value. Service was just right - attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely come again next time I'm in Santa Barbara"

  • "I lived in Santa Barbara for 17 years and always loved Olio e Limone. The food is great and so is the ambience and service. What more can I say? Everyone should go there!"

  • "Had a very relaxing lunch on the patio. Food was outstanding, especially the beet salad (best ever!) and the fresh squeezed mimosas. Service was very attentive / friendly / knowledgeable. Overall a very pleasant and satisfying experience. Really recommend for low key, high value dining."

  • "Wine list was excellent. Food was good but not what I expected from the reviews I had read prior to making the reservation. Seems more of a place to get appitizers and wine as opposed to true fine dinning at a Santa Barbara bistro."

  • "I'd recommend state street wine bistro for a quick bite or easy date night. I wasn't impressed with the service although the food was good. Overall if have preferred another place to spend my money."

  • "The restaurant was empty and the food took forever to come out. Kids were starving and it took a very long time before their plain pasta came out. Won't be going back."

  • "Love the menu, which has plenty of interesting organic, vegetarian and gluten-free choices. The table bread was superlative. Otherwise, I really enjoyed my cup of chili (a big cup) which was the other stand-out for me, while my caprese sandwich was very good and my wife thought her gluten-free pasta was tasty. And since we were there on a weekday at happy hour, we conveniently got our glasses of wine at a nice discount from the regular prices. Definitely worth returning!"

  • "Combine an excellent wine list, carefully prepared seasonal favorites (I had pumpkin ravioli and squash soup) and an inviting dessert list and you'll have an idea of the food experience here. My colleague from Belgium marveled at the quality of both the food and service, which was neither too hovering nor too aloof. In short, I highly recommend this terrific restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food and wine, and the experience that accompanies it."

  • "We loved the beet and arugula salad. We presumed it would be a pleasant enough dish, but we were blown away by the arugula "slaw" (for lack of a better analogy). I couldn't put down the fork! Every flavor burst to the fore then subsided to let another take the spotlight. Fantastic. Then the grilled fare was sublime. Perfect wine pairings and an outdoor ambience that we both appreciated and craved. Well done. We'll be back…but not soon enough."

  • "Just moved to SB from Oregon, where Farm to Table is, well, you've seen Portlandia. We came to the Wine Bistro after a day of wine tasting, and have to say it's my new fav place in SB! The quality of the food blew us all away, as did the friendly staff who were attentive and incredibly accomodating. The food selection was terrific, something for everyone, and is flexible enough to cater to a variety of dietary needs/restriction. I am celiac and was actually surprised to see several delicious gluten free options that were not just salads! Very unique, tasty, and simple dishes yet very elegant without being pretensious. The wine selection was excellent as well. I will definitely come back again and again and again."

  • "A little over priced for what it is. The ambiance was a little below the price level and might feel more appropriate on a crowded night. I was there on a not crowded Thursday night and it felt a little too big and bright for that few people. The food was great, but the portions were a bit small. Service is great, no complaints there. The vegetarian options were a big draw for me, but again, the portions on those were very small. And I'm not sure why 5 squash raviaoli (which were very good) cost the same as a seafood entre'e. I should also point out that the wine selections were great."

  • "Enjoyed arugula salad with proscuitto and appricots. Vegetarian chili was very good. Also enjoyed platter of farmer's market grilled veggies, but at $18 we felt that was way overpriced for the limited amount of veggies we got. Would go back for the same salad and chili, but skip the grilled veggies. Service was kind of slow."

  • "We had an excellent dinner with foodie friends and our kids during a vacation. We went back for lunch because it was so good and we wanted to try the more lunch like offerings (sandwiches, salads, etc.). Everything was great. The scallops were cooked perfectly at dinner. Salmon BLT is a winner for lunch."

  • "Have come here for their happy hour and dinner multiple times. On this occasion, the food was just okay, and the server was essentially absent. Hopefully this was an anomaly."

  • "Great spot for a casual and reasonably priced dinner. Went here for Valentine's day more or less on accident and was consequently a little overdressed, but it was still a very nice meal. I'd personally recommend the bacon cheeseburger they have, but my lady's panini was delicious too."

  • "The food was good but for the price there are much nicer restaurants. We had a salad, hummus to start and an entree each as well as a bottle of wine and with tip it was close to $200 for two people. We could have done fine dining type ambiance for that price rather than the "cafe" feel of this place. The next night we ate somewhere else and had a salad, 2 entrees, an extra side dish, bottle of wine and dessert for just over $100."

  • "This evening was a celebration of a birthday. The wine list is excellent, especially the white wines and pinots. The food was substandard. The pork tenderloin was extremely tough and it was not chewable. It was sent back to the kitchen. I asked for the chef to taste the pork. The waitress brought the food back to the table and the comment was "this is how we prepare the pork at this restaurant. We cook it medium." She mentioned the chef/cook would prepare another pork tenderloin or as they refer to this dish that was ordered, pork flat iron steak; it was not. We refused the offer; the price of the dinner was not removed from the bill. The salmon was the other entree that was ordered, and it was fair."

  • "As it gets harder and harder to develop unique menu items, I applaud chefs that manage to stand out and not go overboard. That's what you'll find here. Real food prepared well, and paired with unlikely ingredients that work well together. Friendly, timely service and pleasant ambiance compliment the cuisine. Thank you Paul!"

  • "The strawberry and Pixie tangerine shortcake with basil syrup was so spectacular that I will assume the restaurant was just having an off night otherwise. Our first courses were not the sum of their parts. The yellowing argula didn't help my wife's salad any. Fortunately my dessert could overcome the tepid coffee served with it. The wine list- SPOILER ALERT, hope you like Lafond!- was abbreviated, but more international than many other choices in the area. On the plus side, mark ups are minimal with Lafond wines priced at almost exactly what they sell for in the tasting room. Service seemed indifferent, so like a good South Park, I randomly inserted the word "marklar" into some sentences with the waitress. No one seemed to notice."

  • "Mussels were the best!!! Hamburger was great too, so I was told :) service, eh, not so attentive. Water served w cucumber tastes different than the waster refill. My guess, the first glass is filtered and the refill is not."
