A word from Stark's Steakhouse
Stark's Steakhouse brings classic fare with a modern approach to downtown Santa Rosa's Old Railroad Square. The restaurant's decor blends classic charm and vintage detail with lush fabrics, weathered leather, and two fireplaces in an old brick setting.

Stark's Steakhouse features CAB Certified Prime Angus, grass fed and beef and also features the only in-house dry-aging program in Sonoma County. Cuts of meat include Bone in New York Strip, Rib Eye, American Kobe and Filet Mignon. Keeping with owner/executive chef Mark Stark's "farm to table" philosophy, Stark's Steakhouse also offers a wide selection of "non-steak" dishes that highlight the plethora of fresh, seasonal and local ingredients available in Sonoma County. • "My girlfriend and I have been to Starks about 4 times now and it's never disappointing. The steaks are always cooked to our liking and the portions are just right. The peppercorn sauce is by far the best out of their options and it goes well with the blue cheese butter. Though this place is pricey, the experience is always fun. Lots of energy in the restaurant and the bar is usually a hit as well."

  • "I'm a big fan of their sister restaurant and assumed Stark's Steakhouse would be equally great. I have heard great things and was excited to take my mom out for her birthday. She is a catering chef and knows good food so I wanted to treat her. We were seated quickly - in the most dinner inappropriate chairs ever. They are much better suited for cigars and brandy, not a seated dinner. They were low, with a deep back so if you wanted your back against the back of the chair, reaching the table was not an option. All in all, service was poor. The guy only came to take our orders and deliver them, never checked in to ask about quality or if we were doing ok. Food was good, but pricey. I would come back for happy hour, but not dinner."

  • "I lalalove this place so much - filet was amazing, mac and cheese a little dijon-y this time around - but still delish....but our waiter was less then helpful - whomp wa....oh well. still one less than fab waiter - did not ruin my wonderful dinner!!!"

  • "I had the calamari appetizer with a happy hour martini. Both excellent flavors, textures, temperatures and visual. For dinner I had the prime rib (medium) and a gigantic baked potato with everything. This was some of the best prime rib I've ever tasted. I could only eat a small portion of both dinner items and continued to make a meal out of them for the next two day. Pricey place (everything appears to be a la cart) but I got what I paid for and can't wait to go back. I've been thinking about that prime rib ever since."

  • "Very loud in the bar and dining room. Good service but food was fair at best. Steak served cool with no taste."

  • "It was a special birthday dinner with all the family. The food selection was special, and the preparation perfect. The price is very high, but the quality matches the price. I would definitely recommend it to others, especially steak lovers."

  • "Food good. Waitress professional, knowledgeable, and charming. Don't like a la carte--makes dining too expensive. Would come back only for a special occasion--not on a regular basis."

  • "Slow service and very poor quality of beef. Waited at front 5-7 minutes no hostess. Sat at table 10 minutes before being greeted. 60 minutes from seated time to entrees served. I ordered the prime ribeye it was cold and full of sinew my wife ordered american Kobe flatiron it was also cold both steaks inedible. We didn't eat one bite and where still charged. They did however remove our two glasses of champagne. This was our second time here the first experience was the same, we thought we would give it a try again."

  • "Love this place! Potato Fondue appetizer is amazing; the many choices of steak are all high quality and cooked properly, and the sides are on par in size and flavor. A great special occasion destination."

  • "Food and service was great as always. The only complaint is the dinner was reserved as a birthday celebration. It was also mentioned to the hostess and the servers. At no point was a birthday acknowledged by any of the staff. That was the huge disappointment of the evening."

  • "All the Starks restaurants are well run, very knowledgeable staff and well designed food . The Steakhouse food is excellent, and the sides are very good. Steak is not the only part of this restaurant as they have a fine selection of seafood. Have been here several times and always a good experience."

  • "We really enjoyed spending our anniversary at Starks. The staff was amazing and the ambiance was among the best I've experienced. The food was delicious and I was surprised that the bill was not higher. I will be returning to Starks on our next visit to Santa Rosa."

  • "When ordering steak the menu gives a choice between USDA Choice and Prime. The Prime option is more costly as expected, and is considered the very best cut possible. My Ribeye was Prime, but the cut was not very impressive, and full of fat; I would say 40% fat, not good..."

  • "I've been very lucky to have eaten here a number of times, and never once felt like I was shorted anything. Sure it's expensive, but the bang for the buck factor is easily worth it. Since you are coming here for steak, get the aged version if possible. It costs more but hey, you're worth it. If you can, get one Choice and one aged ( not all for you, but at your table) of like cuts and see the difference."

  • "It was our 3rd wedding anniversary. Found it on the internet as a 4-1/2 star. Very friendly people. Price was were it should be for the quality of food. Both our meals were unbelieveible. Will tell others about this place. Love the fireplace going for dinner. Good wine list."

  • "We've been to Starks several times and it never disappoints. The service and Food are Very consistent. It is a bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for and it's worth it in our opinion. Only problem was everything was so delicious we ate way too much. We will be back again soon."

  • "We went on a Sunday night for dinner and was very impressed with the service. We ordered a lot of food for two people. Among the items we ordered were clams a la plancha & dungeness crab tater tots for starters, both very good but thought the clams were a little small. Would much rather have larger but fewer clams than lots of little clams. I ordered bone-in rib eye steak prime and my boyfriend ordered rib eye steak choice. Both steaks were seasoned perfectly but were a degree over cooked. We ordered three sides. Mac & cheese and asparagus were excellent. The third one was truffle fries, bland, had better. Overall, a great place for dinner and will try them again."

  • "Very cool old theater converted to steakhouse. The front bar is original and has great happy hour. We were seated abut 10 minutes late and got absolutely ignored by our server. We finally ordered and the food arrived promptly - great steaks and sides; burger also amazing. Incredible mac and cheese. Once we got the bill server disappeared again for over 30 minutes. First two bottles of wine free corkage!!"

  • "My husband loves this restaurant. Always a highlight when we visit. Introducing friends to the restaurant is so fun especially, when we see their eyes light up with the food that is served from the kitchen. Great job!!"

  • "When we pulled up and walked through the bar, we were not sure this was going to be a good dinner experience. But once we got to the dining area and had dinner, we were very happy with everything. The service was really good and the food was even better. Overall we thought it was a great experience."

  • "This was my second visit to Stark's, both in the past month. On both occasions, it was excellent, except for one thing. They seem to have a hard time cooking the steak to the requested level. On our first visit, we both ordered the 10 oz filet mignon, medium-well. One of them came out pretty accurate, but the other was RARE. I mean, basically raw inside. Our waiter apologized and had it fixed right away. But it kind of ruins the dinner when one of us is eating while the other waits another 10 minutes for his steak. On this second visit, almost the exact same thing happened, except this time the undercooked steak was more like medium-rare. Shouldn't a steak restaurant be good at, um... cooking steak?"

  • "We went to Stark's to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. The ambiance was fantastic, the service was great and the food was excellent! I have never had a better "loaded" potato and the garlic butter slathered bread was divine! We are still talking about our experience, days later."

  • "I was in the neighborhood and Stark's had been recommended, but I didn't feel like eating a whole steak by myself. Great compromise: their delicious Caesar with several delicious slices of steak added. A perfect and yummy meal for a light eater."

  • "Service would have received 5 stars if not for the bartender. My husband got his drink right away, I did not. Bartender waited on 4 other customers before making my drink. Not a good start. Food was outstanding, but unfortunately the noise level of this resturant is so bad that you have to scream just so your dinner companion can hear you. I am not sure what can be done about this problem, but it is probably not somewhere we would go again. $175 for 2 people should equate to "highend" experience, but sadly that is not the case here."

  • "We love steak, and Stark's does a great job of preparing it. We started with the tuna tartare, and then I had the "standard" Caesar and my wife had the soup du jour. For the main, we had the flatiron and the surf and turf (small filet and grilled shrimp). The meat was perfectly cooked to medium and medium-rare, something that many places just don't do quite right. We split a side of roasted asparagus, which was also cooked to perfection. Dessert was the chocolate mousse. The main item to know (other than the food is great) is that Stark's, on a Saturday night at 7:15, is *not* a quiet place. So, not the ideal quiet romantic dinner spot. But if you love steak like we do, the food will more than make up for the ambient noise."

  • "This is always a great stop in Santa Rosa. It is loud, but the food makes up for it. I would not eat a dinner in the lounge because it can be so loud you would lose your mind, but the dining room was very nice. To be fair they try to work with the sound as I found old sound proofing under the table, but it is an older place with lots of wood - so there ya go. The staff and food are very good as are the drink choices and wine. Keep it up."

  • "the food is great but expensive. sides should be included as you need to order own veggies and potatoes for extra. the entrée only come w/a steak on your plate. seems like the higher priced the rest. the less you get.. that said everything was delicious and we'll go for special occasions. Not for a regular Sat night out."

  • "As amazing as the steaks are (and they are!), the side dishes meal-worthy! The broccolini and the mushrooms- so good. And really reasonable corkage. Just a great meal!"

  • "The food is very good. The servings are larger than expected when it comes appetizers and sides. I recommend sharing between 3-4 people. The drinks are good. The ambiance is nice as well. My only issue is I feel that it is priced 10-15% higher than it should be. Granted, our eyes were a whole lot bigger than our stomachs...so we ordered way to much food. I wish we had known about serving sizes going into it. We really enjoyed it though and would go again as experienced patrons. Another plus, if you want wine, bring your own. The first two bottles are free corkage. Then there is a charge of $15."

  • "As I live in the city of Napa I don't get much of chance of dining in Santa Rosa. I happened to be in the area for business and decided to meet a friend for dinner. I was politely greeted by the bartender and the rest was history. I made a reservation right from my phone as they were a little busy and the bar was hoping. I think happy hour was still happening. We sat down to dinner and our meal was cooked to perfection. I'm not sure of the history of starks but it has the feel of an old movie theater. If you are looking for a gourmet steak house look no further if you are in the area."

  • "Stark's Steakhouse a high-end, old-fashioned steakhouse serving great food and staffed with professional servers. My wife and I recently had dinner at Stark's with foodie friends from out-of-town. One of the friends was in need of "cheater" glasses to read the menu (he'd left his in the car) and our server instantly pulled a pair from her pocket to lend. Additionally, she was intimately familiar with the menu and made helpful suggestions while we ordered. Eating here is a real pleasure."

  • "Ambience was nice, dimly lit and quiet. Going in I knew that the entree prices were on the expensive side so the bill for the evening was not a surprise. What was, was the quality of the meal for the price. We ordered the potato fondu. Cheese sauce lacked in flavor and the potatoes were over done. Once the steaks arrived they were of no higher quality than ones such as Cattlemens serve for 25-50% less. Even the fully loaded baked potato ($8!!!!) while large, arrived with sour cream that seemed to be thinned down was a disappointment. On the positive side the onion rings were excellent and the bread was to die for! We all wanted more than the one serving provided. All in all it was not a bad meal. Just not great or worth the price."

  • "We arrived about 20 minutes early and were seated right away. The service was prompt and friendly. We shared the calamari appetizer. I was ok. it had an Asian flavor that really didn't sync with overall style of the menu. It was a little too sweet for my taste. We all ordered the rib eye steaks. I shared the 20oz with two other ladies along with 3 of the sides, creamed cauliflower, asparagus and the sautéed spinach. All were very tasty except the spinach. It needed a little something, besides cream, to bring out the flavor. We had the perfect amount of food. The mashed potatoes were also very tasty. We had a bottle of wine. it was fairly priced. Overall it was very enjoyable experience and a delicious meal. "

  • "This place is great. Things to know or keep in mind: 1) The portions are huge. They tell you the size of the steaks (in oz.) but the portions served are actually larger, I'm pretty sure. 2) The sides are huge also -- definitely big enough to share between at least 2 people. 3) NO CORKAGE FEE!! No corkage fee in a nice restaurant is practically unheard of these days. At Stark's it is definitely advantageous to take your own special-occasion wine. I'll take my own next time. (I think they'll open up to two bottles with no fee.) The dining room is a bit stuffy, in the dark claustrophobic sense, not the snooty sense. Definitely one of the better Santa Rosa restaurants."
