Diner Reviews
  • "We meet friends here because the menu has something for everyone and we can sit in a booth and hear each other. Our server was very professional and allowed us to take our time while still providing everything."

  • "The service was inaccurate and inattentive. Never brought water that was requested. No refills on tea for a long time. Waited for the check; couldn't find the server. The food was fine but not great. It works for a meeting but I am likely not to return. Expensive for mediocre food."

  • "We had dinner July 6th with some friends. Service and food was great as usual. Our experience was notable. Will dine again in the future."

  • "Stanford's is the Cheers of Walnut Creek. The servers and management know us and welcome us. We enjoyed a simple dinner. Calamari starter and bottle of wine followed by the Kruse Burger for me and the French Dip for my wife. The burger was wonderful and the French Dip was packed with prime rib and flavor. The Calamari was spot on and the price was very good for all. Service was managed nicely and meals came out on time. Everything was just about perfect! Good night out was found at Stanfords."

  • "This place is departed in need of a makeovet. It feels tired and dated. The food is average. The steak is well prepared but the calamari doesn't seem fresh. The Cobb salad had blackened avocado in it and the cheesy focacio is inedible. The server was very nice but kept disappearing. With so many excellent restaurants in walnut creek I can't understand why anyone would ever return to this restaurant."

  • "Overall nice atmosphere and very courteous waitress. Food well prepared and presented properly."

  • "My family and I (party of 7 with 2 kids) had dinner here a few days ago. We had such a great experience! Our server was awesome, very friendly and very accommodating of the large party and our child with nut allergies which is always a relief for us. Our food was excellent, my favorite by far was the brie appetizer. We had a variety of items from the prime rib dip to the burger and fish tacos. Definitely an wonderful experience and we will return!"

  • "We save Stanford's for special nights and celebration dinners. It never disappoints in food or service!"

  • "Ordered what was called a crab sandwich. It wasn't even close! It was some indecipherable gooey spread on french bread with melted cheese on top. absolutely gross. Further, it was not adequately explained by wait staff when I asked, otherwise I would have ordered something else. Friend had fish and chips. also not very eatable. Over fried (even the french fried). This was truly a bad experience with respect to the food while the wait staff and atmosphere seemed fine."

  • "Good service. Told the waitress we needed to be done by 1 for a meeting and she got our food right away. Also refilled our sodas without us having to ask."

  • "I took my 93 year old dad and family here for dinner. Service was very accommodating to some special needs, attentive and very polite. When one meal wasn't quite what was expected, it was quickly replaced without any delay or problem. Baby back ribs were excellent, other orders happily consumed, appetizers were plentiful, good beverages and attractive setting. It had been years since I had been here but now will be sure to return again soon!"

  • "We made reservations for 2 and were seated immediately. Unfortunately, no one told the waitress so we waited a long time for someone to show. The ribs were great... the fajitas average. It was our first time there, and for ambiance, we found it to be a couple of steps up from a coffee shop but a couple of steps down from a good steakhouse. It was quiet and comfortable. We liked it and we will probably go back from time to time."

  • "we were at standfords for father's day. we were a group of three. my wife had the fish n chips, my sister the fish tacos, and i had the skillet chicken dish. frankly, we were surprised who good the food prep was. it was very good and we will return. the service person was attentive and the hostess was polite and efficient. overall, a very nice dining experience."

  • "I was disappointed that the al a carte salad, at $ 6.95, had hardly any cheese, cucumbers, eggs, and tomatoes on it. ( I had to ask for more to put on my salad.) My garlic chicken dish was dry and only one small piece of chicken breast at $18.75 is totally overpriced. With the salad and entree, my dinner cost over $21.00 I went away feeling that Stanford has become overpriced serving very small portions. And coffee at $3.25? Really?"

  • "We love Stanford's for all the reasons listed above, PLUS that even when it's really busy, which it usually is, you can still talk to the person across the table without having to read lips, and we never hear other conversations around us. It's a relaxing place to eat and enjoy friends. Now, the bar is a different atmosphere, of course. The bar is always full of young people, having what looks like a great time. It's like two different restaurants in one!"

  • "Met a couple of friends who came in from Florida. Two of us had the filet mignon (minus the blue cheese crust), ordered medium rare. Mine was a bit beyond medium rare, but acceptable. Good flavor. Came with vegetables. Sliced potatoes a bit crunchy, but edible. Waiter could use a bit more training, but he was nice and did a fairly good job. Only minor complaint, we had to ask for bread, which should have come prior to our entrees, but came after. All in all a good experience. And they waived the corkage fee, which was a pleasant surprise"

  • "We have always been able to get a table at Stanford's. Their menu isn't very vast, but the food is very good. We continue to return to this restaurant so often because it has a very nice and quite atmosphere. Beer choices are good too."

  • "As always, Stanford's provided a wonderful meal -- I had salmon, and my partner had rib-eye -- and great service! We always ask for Dan to be our waiter, and on Saturday night, he was training Casey (sp?). She exceeded our expectations as a trainee, but since Dan was her trainer, we shouldn't have been surprised."

  • "Terrific location & setting for a get-together of 'seasoned citizens' having a mini-reunion. Great food and outstanding service... never pesty but always available when needed."

  • "Ordered the Pulled pork burger and it was delicious. The ambiance is good and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. I'd recommend this restaurant for a nice dinner date night. "

  • "I definitely like this place more for lunch and eating/drinking in the bar than I do for dinner. Dinner was just ok. A bit overpriced for the type of menu and food. Like their sister restaurant much better, Palomino."

  • "What a great dinner; we had a knowledgeable and friendly waiter who wasn't trying to put on heirs by being stuffy (above us) - a pleasant relief! Food matched the service! Truly one of our best dinners at Stanford's in Walnut Creek, CA."

  • "We were looking forward to prime rib on Mother's Day, and had 6:30 reservations. About fifteen minutes after placing our order, we were told they were out of prime rib---really, this early in the evening? My husband ordered a filet mignon, rare, which arrived well done. The replacement took twenty minutes. My ribs were tasty, but came on a limp bed of room-temperature fries. The hour-long plus wait for this meal definitely wasn't worth it."

  • "Took my wife and mother-in-law. It was our first visit. The service was great, the food good and reasonably priced. Also the OpenTable Reservation process worked with out a problem. Will be a return customer. "

  • "Although the menu is basic "Americana" they know how to do it right. Quality ingredients and great service on a busy day like mothers day is always impressive. Parking is a challenge as it always is in Walnut Creek."

  • "we did not like that a dog was seated next to our table"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Food and service were great (veggie frittata and eggs benedict); however, kid friendly choices for Mothers Day brunch were pretty slim (kid size portion of standard entrees). It took awhile to confirm that we could get the French toast without nuts for my seven year old and she wasn't in the mood for eggs and bacon/sausage. "

  • "The atmosphere was nice and staff was friendly. However the food was so-so. The price wasn't too bad but the egg's benedict were disappointing. Denica's has better brunch food. "

  • "This is a nice restaurant, with most of the tables in booths. Service and food were both good. My wife and I ordered filet mignon for our main course. The menu said it came with pan-roasted vegetables. Well, it did, but there was such a tiny portion of vegetables that it would have been more true to say that they were just a garnish. It was all very tasty, but we just felt that maybe they might have done better by also serving a little rice or mashed potato with it. That would have made it an excellent meal. And, if they didn't want to do this as a matter of course, perhaps the servers could offer it as an addition? But the lack of rice or potatoes did leave room for a great dessert of crème brulée..."

  • "Started with a very good lunch. Migrated to dinner and was very pleased. After a few visits we wre treated like family. Beyond the exceptional service, the food is very good. The Baby Back Ribs are to die for. While we dine out frequently in Walmut Creek, Stanford's has beome a favorite for lunch and dinner. Good food good drinks and great service makes this a neigborhood favorite."

  • "We enjoyed a Friday night at Stanford's. Service was excellent and in most part the food was good. Wife ordered the special burger on the menu. The roasted jalapeno was whole with seeds and cold in the middle. All the heat was there and too spicy for her. My wings were good but the onion rings fell apart because they did not dredge before putting the batter on. Rookie mistake. Service was great and food was a value. At the end of the night, all was good."

  • "Took a client to lunch here and have been to the restaurant several times. Some of their specialty items seem a little pricey but depending on what you choose it's well priced and great for a business lunch. Requested a quiet table and they accommodated me."

  • "Couple things for certain--the service is good and the food is always fresh and well prepared. I like it for casual lunch, after work beverages and or just stopping in to have a quick bite."

  • "For a group with varied tastes the menu has great variety. Seating is good in large quiet booths or tables that vary in size. The very back of the restaurant is perfect for conversation, and the bar area has its own ambience."

  • "I have dined at Stanford's several times, and have never been disappointed with the food, the service or the ambience. The food is always delicious, the service always prompt and polite, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. I would recommend it for anyone, whether it be a date, family or a group of friends. "

  • "Perfect evening. Good service, food and friends. All 4 enjoyed our meals of salmon, prime rib and fish tacos. The desserts were fair....apple crumb and berry cobbler. They changed the cobbler dough and I didn't care for it. Like the sugar cookie crust before."

  • "The food was good, service was just as we expect, and it was a quiet enough table we could all talk and hear each other. But, it was impossible to park near the restaurant. One of our group is handicapped and a walk from the Plaza fountain was not an option. "

  • "Standford's is a great place to eat if you want to talk, as it is quiet enough that you can hear your companion and friends talking. I like the booths. Service was very good. The sole was a bit greasy but all in all it is a good place with plenty of choices both for price and types of food."

  • "Very nice pub; a good choice in Walnut Creek if you want pub/tavern food. Good privacy; not noisy. Eclectic menu with nice choices."

  • "We selected based on menu for restaurant week. It was quiet for a Tuesday night yet we were seated in an empty room. Three of us dined and two ordered the $30 prix fix. There were two menu options and we both had the steak. I requested to have the mashed vs red potatoes. Apparently chef said no because they offer no substitutions. Service was painfully slow. We were never served the first course! They forgot. After we were completely finished with our entree, they brought the starter. Overall presentation was poor and quality ok. With the slow service and lack of first course and refusing to make a minor substitution they offered no concession. Paid full price. Unfortunately restaurant week just lost a future customer. "
