Diner Reviews
  • "We had a party of 5 and everyone enjoyed their entrees. Several of them are foodies, so no easy task to please them! The decor was pure Texan. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable, not stuffy at all. Good for a nice celebration dinner or nice business dinner."

  • "This place has a Texas feel and a Texas look. Food was great."

  • "The butterscotch pudding was excellent! The biscuits are divine! Loved the homage to Texas and the live music. Overall though, the food is over-seasoned with excessively fiery flavors that over-power the food. Deviled eggs were so spicy to the point of being inedible. Our service was mediocre and the iced tea had an odd smokey flavor. They continued to fill our tea glasses with no ice. The watermelon margarita was one of the worst beverages ever. We had a great time, however, primarily due to the live music! I think that the Texas style gimmick is a little worn even though I am a native Texan. Maybe visitors from out of town enjoy the theme, but honestly it's not really how Texans eat."

  • "I gotta say this is probably my favorite restaurant in Dallas. The atmosphere is great; there's a unique decor, and the food is phenomenal! Get the foie gras!!"

  • "I was looking for something new and fun - I found it at Stampede 66. The atmosphere was great! The food is unique to Texas it was awesome! The Service was outstanding! This was our Anniversary and we enjoyed everything about it. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes. My wife had the Honey Chicken, I had the steak - Be sure and try the Shiner Bock beer bread!!! FANTASTIC! We will definitely be back!"

  • "I just expected more from Stephen Pyles. The barbecue sandwich with a piece of cheese on top and pickles thrown on the side of the plate, really? My salad was just lettuce - nothing else just lettuce and dressing. I was disappointed in the food but the restaurant is nicely decorated in the Texas theme. Me and my guest ordered the exact same entrée but different sides and the waiter came back to the table interrupting our conversation to "make sure" he entered our order correctly because he couldn't recall our sides - write it down if you can't remember it."

  • "Interesting twist on Texas Classic food. A must for anyone visiting Dallas. Great atmosphere... The menu is simple but very unique and interesting. A real treat!"

  • "The food isn't great, the service was very good but lacked a personal feel - It was if we had inconvenienced them by showing up for dinner. However, the hostess was excellent, seating us earlier and doing her best to make us feel welcome. Overall, a disappointment for what the claims made by previous visitors."

  • "Cannot comment on other meal menu options as we were only there for dinner, could not tell if large groups would work - saw some groups of 6. We did have a hard time finding the parking….there were no valet attendants out when we arrived so went to garage and found locked elevators. No valet signage out when we arrived for 6:30 dinner."

  • "Convenient to House of Blues for pre-concert. Wish we had tried the table-side frozen margaritas...weren't told about them. Cobia was great. Duck Gorditas were a bit dry. Fun atmosphere and Chef Pyles was is, so fun to see him in action!"

  • "We were in a time crunch - and got in and out in 15 minutes. We were able to make it to the concert in plenty of time - and getting a great dinner in!! Service and food amazing!!"

  • "Food was outstanding - different & delicious! Ordered melon & crab salad. It's a watermelon gelatin. Surprisingly delicious! Have you ever had a waiter who did not smile the entire meal? Me neither, until we dined here. Maybe it was a bad day for her but made us very uncomfortable."

  • "Service here is TOP NOTCH! From the bartenders to the wait staff...very impressive! We started at the bar with some cocktails. I am definitely coming back because they were delicious! Also, the bar was nicely set up and comfortable, bartenders were friendly and great at recommending drinks. Menu was diverse: everything from small plates to LARGE plates. We started out with the Hell's Eggs...Deviled with a kick. We also had the fried chicken and meatloaf. Comfort food for sure but not greasy and amazing flavors. Can't wait to come back to try more."

  • "This was our party's 1st. Ambience and service was very good. However some of the food was average at best. The only thing at the table that was above average was the hangar steak. Much of the food was very salty. The mashed potatoes were not warm. They were replaced with hot when we asked. Finally, there was not a single vegetable dish available nor a typical house salad. Too many other choices for a return trip."

  • "Great food! Lovely spot! Our waiter Danny was great! The noise level is a bit much - the music is too loud. Which is too bad because it is a beautiful space and it is set up so the tables are very private. Really a good experience though!"

  • "The menu is not very descriptive, be sure and ask your waiter what comes with everything. We thought that the food was unremarkable, nothing we couldn't make at home or find eslewhere. The pimento cheese popover was overcooked and unappetizing in presentation. I ordered the fried chicken (based on the waiter's request), but found that injected honey over-powered the other flavors so that was pretty much all you tasted. The biscuits looked good but were dry (and came without butter). The chicken also came with two fried tots of mashed potatoes and a jar of pickles which were also unremarkable. Had the German chocolate cake for desert. Cake itself was dry and heavy. Icing was good, but the ice cream was gritty and detracted from the dish."

  • "I like this restaurant. I like to come here for lunch, specifically business lunches with clients or colleagues. They have great tasting food, which I would describe as country with an upscale twist. They also have a little bit of everything so there is sure to be something on the menu to suit your pallet."

  • "Food was awesome! The only improvement would be to tun down the music in the dining area. Waiters had to raise their voice to be understood and move from person to person for each order."

  • "I think that Stampede keeps getting better and better. Simple, great food."

  • "Very disappointing for a Stephen Pyles restaurant. We went there on my wife's birthday and when I had made the reservation on OpenTable, I had so noted. No one even acknowledged that it was her birthday. The quality of the food was not at all what we expected. My wife ordered chicken & dumplings but did not like the taste of it all. I had the meatloaf and it was very dry. Some of it may have been that we were expecting the food to be true to its Texas roots with some minor treatments but this was too far afield for our tastes."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner - first time diners. We celebrated my husband's birthday. We were seated in the back room, which turned out to be very nice as it was quieter than the main room. We will definitely return for another delicious meal!"

  • "Lots of fun concepts on the menu, but not all of them well executed. Service was mediocre and a little awkward. Just wasn't what I was expecting based upon my love for Stephen Pyles other concepts."

  • "Excellent food, service and ambience! Couldn't have asked for anything more other than Stephan Pyles himself being there, but it was a Wednesday night, and the server thought he was out of town."

  • "We chose to celebrate an anniversary at Stampede. We expected fun and good food, and we were not disappointed. Stampede is much different from SP's other restaurants, and it's hard to select a favorite among them. They are each foodie pleasers."

  • "Great food; service and ambience! Had the fried chicken and butterscotch pudding...both were excellent. Tasted the buffalo fried steak; excellent! Also shrimp and grits was great as well! Overall it was a great dining experience and I would definitely go back again!"

  • "Loved the food, drinks, and fantastic decor. Every detail was considered. The drink with grilled peaches was a great, refreshing summer treat, and the skillet brownie with Snickers shake was fun and super yummy!"

  • "I have never felt more rushed in my life! This was a Tuesday evening and while the restaurant was crowded, there was no one waiting on a table. After paying for drinks at the bar, we were seated at our reservation time and after ordering appetizers, within 5 minutes they were on the table! Our entire meal, beginning to end was over in under an hour! The waiter was EXTREMELY PUSHY and after being told once that we didnt want the bread that he recommended, he asked again 5 minutes later! His "rush/rush", "get em in, get em out" attitude was not appealing and turned all of us off. Food was good but when you inhale your food...how good could it really be? A big dissapointment and a case of where the service killed this meal."

  • "Had dinner for 2 on a quiet Tuesday weeknight at Stampede 66. Overall, it was just OK, but not up to the level we expected from a Pyles restaurant. Atmosphere was fun. Waiter was pleasant but service was weak. Food was good, not great, prices / values varied widely. We ordered a pimento cheese popover to start and a glass of wine. Wine didn't come for about 15 minutes, just before entrees came. We hadn't received the appetizer and asked - waiter didn't know what happened, but brought it when we were about halfway through our entrees. It was way overpriced at $10. Street tacos were very good and a bargain at $4 each. Meatloaf was bland. Ordered a $10 wine, charged for a $13 wine - not sure what I received. Probably wouldn't return."

  • "My husband wanted to check this out for Father's Day. It was loud, the food was good, but they were slow serving. We arrived at 7:45 for an 8pm reservation and didn't get out until 10pm."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Where to start? The service was poor, inattentive, and slow - had to ask for butter and salt, the table to be cleared, and the check. The food was okay to not okay. A ribeye steak, cooked medium rare, was full of gristle and very chewy. The catfish had come from a lake that had turned over and tasted muddy - could not eat any of it. The meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans were pedestrian. The honey fried chicken was good, but needed a sauce. The biscuits were good, but dense. The peach cobbler and german choc cake were awful. BEST ITEMS - The deviled eggs were good and the tomato salad was terrific because the tomatoes were insanely delicious - I don't believe I have ever had better tomatoes in my entire life, seriously."

  • "Great food, service, ambiance! Super special nitrogen infused margarita! Everything we ordered was delicious! Will definitely be back...maybe try Sun brunch sometime!"

  • "Sometimes food is taken to a new level and sometimes food is just overdone. Fantastic food includes the deviled eggs, mac and cheese, tamales, biscuits, fried chicken, frito chili pie. Over done food would be the mash potato bites, potato salad and brisket. Signature Margaritas are an interesting show, but at $18 / drink, one would not expect short pours on the alcohol. There was an amazing manager that evening that listened to our comments with care and won over the evening. Service was wonderful. We would return."
