  • "The restaurant feels like a little hideaway tucked into a secret spot in the Mission. The service is always perfect and the spacing of the tables allows for conversation with neighbors if you feel like it, but also privacy if you don't. The wine list is reasonably priced. The small plates make for a fun, social evening. "

  • "Great wine list, and they were also helpful in providing advice in what to try with wine and food. The issue was only with the food. We tried 4 things. Neither of us liked 3 of them. It wasn't that the dishes were done poorly, it was that they tried way too hard to cram too many flavors into these things where everything was just off. The three stars are for recognizing that sometimes you just don't like or agree with a chef's taste buds or preparations. In particular we liked the BBD appetizer, but the fluke was cut wrong so it was chewy, the Fried Chicken was tender but tasted of liquid smoke and the ice cream with burn honey was good but the olive oil made the whatever it touched bitter. Would go again for drinks"

  • "This very trendy spot is about tasting pricier French and Italian wines...kind of unusual amidst the abundance of great New World wines available locally. The idea is that you can buy half of a bottle, and, if you like it, you can buy the rest or pass. The menu is very limited, including a good array of starters, with a short entree list, lead by fried chicken. To say the least, the menu is largely out of whack with the wine orientation...one would have expected French or italian styled food or at least Cal-Med. Worth the effort if you are interested in the wine list."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at St Vincent. The food was exquisite and delicious. Very creative approach of ingredients that came together really nicely. Outstanding fried chicken!!! The crust was dark and rich with paprika and the meat was moist and succulent. I love finding something I have to go back for. But the menu changes frequently so I might have to try the latest special. David Lynch's wine program is a joy to devour. Lots of unique bright white options, a European flare to the selection."

  • "Been wanting to try St Vincent's for a while. Came for my birthday and was not disappointed. This seems like a great spot for either a special occasion or a low key glass of wine. We shared several dishes including the bone marrow and carnitas which was incredible. I found the wine list a bit overwhelming but our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. There weren't that many wines availed by the glass but were several half bottles available which was perfect for my party."

  • "Fresh and seasonal food in pleasingly inventive and creative combinations. Serving sizes were perfect - not too big so you have room to try multiple dishes, and not too small so that there was enough bites to savor each one. The wine and beer list showed a deep knowledge of the offerings and the proprietor was kind enough to help guide us skillfully with our choices. I am a vegetarian and there were more items to choose from on the menu than I could possibly eat in one sitting - definitely a plus! The recycled wood furniture in the modern setting is pleasing to the eye and the soul and r&b music on their sound system wasn't too loud so as to interfere with your conversation. We will definitely return!"

  • "st. vincent is a true gem. the menu, service and overall experience was so positive. the staff is knowledgable and helpful without being pushy and the fare was so delicious! we tried a number of items and every one of them was outstanding. it is clear that st. vincent uses quality ingredients and puts alot of thought and energy into preparing and serving the fare. the wine list was impressive and also very accessible. thanks for a great evening, i will definitely be coming back!"

  • "For a place that features wine, the food is surprisingly good. The spicy fried chicken and biscuit is excellent, but the other items on the menu are more creative combinations of ingredients that are well prepared and well executed."

  • "I appreciate the creativity in the menu, but the resulting food missed the mark. "Sweetbreads on an english muffin w/ munster + kumquat jelly" sounded bad, so I figured it had to be better than it sounded. It wasn't. The muffins (store-bought?!) became gummy when saturated with gravy. The sweetbreads were quite tasty, but the cheese and and the jelly did not meld with them and were just unpleasant spikes of flavor. The blood sausage wasn't bloody enough, so it tasted like a pretty normal pork sausage. The rest of the dish was great, though. Service was fantastic, and the wine list is really interesting. Our server provided great guidance. Seating, uncomfortable; decor, kind of cheap and amateurish. The final tab was quite high."

  • "So delicious. So professional. Totally amazing. The food was AWESOME! The servers even make way for you when you walk to the restroom! I have never seen that in SF other than Fleur De Lys. I freaking LOVED St Vincent. Well done you guys!"

  • "The wine list is extensive, and the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their selection in this regard. However, every dish my partners and I tried was mediocre at best. Very disappointing food. Maybe they have good desserts or cheer courses? (We declined to stay after our main meal was so "meh".)"

  • "The collard greens were just as delicious as we remembered. The scallops in broth were a revelation. But we were sad that the chicken #1 was not as crispy as the first time. It was tasty & we ate every bite. But we remembered a crunch on our first visit that just wasn't there this visit. We will try again, as we love the service & ambience."

  • "I'm putting St. Vincent's up as one of the top 2 restaurants I've been to so far (in the city). Everything we ordered was great and so was the service."

  • "Visited St. Vincent with a foodie friend for her birthday dinner. Cool industrial interior decor, friendly service. While my selections were too tart for my taste - I had the escarole greens salad that had a strong vinegar dressing as did the cucumbers with my dinner - I did enjoy the spicy fried chicken. My friend enjoyed her egg dish and the fried chicken as well. The waiter was so kind as to bring a birthday dessert of ice cream with olive oil and honeycomb on top. Tasty."

  • "Tucked away on the corner next to a bakery and a cute little antiques store lies the unassuming face of St. Vincent. With an exciting and well curated menu, this restaurant does not disappoint (I highly recommend the scallops). If you're fond of a pairing or two you can't go wrong thanks to their friendly and well informed staff (the local selection of beer is also fantastic). This is a win win for new dates or old friends."

  • "We have been to St. Vincents several times now and loved it every time. Great wine and beer selection, and the food is a more unique spin than one gets in a lot of restaurants here in SF with things like baked pretzels straight from the oven and vinegar braised pork on a bed of potato chips. Definitely a place to go not just for a glass of wine, but for dinner as well."

  • "went for the second time last week. very similarly terrific, which may be to say it doesn't change much, but 4 months later I was very happy to have the ham chop again. I couldn't quite finish it. actually I could have, but I saved pieces for my kids breakfast. They demanded more, and I had not saved enough. Good thing I didn't let them in on the sweetbread english muffin....mmmm the wine list is great, and yet like the last time I don't use it. I talk about what I'm feeling, and a glass is recommended and is original, new, and delicious. I did that 3 times for 3 glasses. If I could take that with me on the road, i would."

  • "This was a great meal with fabulous wine. I have recently had to limit my food to gluten free and the wait staff was knowledgable and helpful -there was a choice without having to alter the menu. I really appreciated that."

  • "I returned to SVT with friends, after a group dinner there two months ago. The food from the menu was delicious...the Pollack was some of the best cooked fish I had eaten out for some time. The wine recommendations were spot on. The staff remembered my being there before & were very welcoming. Will definitely make this a regular stop for dinner ....& I live across town."

  • "The dinner was a joke, the portions really small and the quality of the steak was bad, the rest of the food was poor. The only thing we liked was the bread."

  • "For all the hype, St. Vincent is very good but the food didn't blow me away as I expected it too. If I went back I would definitely go with a group that really appreciates wine and take advantage of the "everything under $100 by the half bottle" offering. Ordering a bunch of different wines to try with the food would be a great way to experience this casual, unassuming restaurant. There were some standouts including the black cod and the pappardelle and some clever and tasty dishes including the cabbage rolls and the carrots with sherry, almonds, and mint. Overall, a very good dinner and everyone was happy when we left!"

  • "Given the positive reputation of the owner, we went to explore the wine. We left it up to our waitress to use her judgment and be reasonable. She did a great job for us. 3 different wines were tried, none of which we had experienced before. The policy of only having to buy 1/2 a bottle allowed us to experience styles & tastes we might not otherwise have tried. Recommendation - go have fun with the wine list; this place provides that opportunity. The food was fine. The chicken is as good as other reviews say. The swordfish worked, quite tasty, but it seemed like a small piece. Yet by the time I was done, it was plenty. We also ordered the bone marrow, mussels, pretzel (there were 4 of us) as starters. For each dish the wine worked well."

  • "Excellent food and fabulous wine list. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines. A special bonus is that you can order any wine under $100 and they'll open it and you can buy half the bottle and they'll sell the rest to someone else. Means you can try more wines! Casual spot, delightful!"

  • "Nice little place in San Francisco, where there is an impressive list of wines and you can pick any bottle up to $100 for half bottle and half price. Food is something a little sophisticated with some options for starters, appetizers and main plate. We shared the startes and appetizers an each of us had a main dish. Service is friendly, ambient is kind of mid-light. Definetely recommended"

  • "Compared to similarly priced restaurants with similar menus this place is not up to par with its customer service. They did not have 2 entrees on the menu that we wanted to try so we had to go for other options and over charged us by $20. We were somewhat ignored which may be due to us being a party of 2 surrounded by parties of 4 and 5. I can only hope that was why and not something more sinister. The bone marrow was not as good as other places I have tried as the portion was smaller and it was saltier. It was just not up to par with the prices all around."

  • "As residents of Portland, Oregon we're spoiled by all of the great restaurant choices in our town. The food, wait staff and friendliness at St Vincent made us think we were home. Great restaurant."

  • "Was quite excited about the menu. Marrow on toast was okay, but entree (swordfish and quail) were poorly paired with overpowering flavors and over seasoned, respectively. Wine was good, service left more to be desired. Felt like a bad mish mash of French/American/Californian cuisine....just trying too hard to get together. Please, just keep it simple and elegant, like your gorgeous flower arrangements."

  • "I missed a gathering @ St. Vincent's & given my friends' rave reviews, I had to check it out. I wasn't disappointed by the great variety of wines & the hearty food. The pork with slaw & chips was terrific, as were the pretzels. I look forward to going back & exploring with more friends so I can further plumb the depths of the wine list & try some more appetizers & entrees. St. Vincent is appropriately named for the patron saint of vintners, but the food is right up there too!"

  • "This restaurant is known for it's varied and reasonably priced wines. We tried a few different varietals. We ate flatbread, fried chicken and grits. The food was not as impressive as on our last visit. The service and wine list will keep us coming back."

  • "We had a mix of small plates and one entree: picked eggs - curry and horseradish/beet - both delicious and tangy fried chicken - excellent with unique flavors on the side. the pickles were yummy. mussels in broth - just fine grits - sweet and tasty bone marrow - so good! with a nice relish on the side pork plate - went very well with the Patel wine we brought Only drawback - they just have a beer and wine menu so no cocktails. But they compensate with vermouth and a wonderful wine list."

  • "Thank you so much for a lovely evening. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and asked to sit next to each other, which meant they had to give us a four person table - no problem! We asked advice on the menu and got good reliable comments, that made it easy to pick. We were able to just have a half a bottle of any wine under $100 (it was a Tuesday) They served us lost of little plates of amazing deliciousness and never we felt we had to hurry up and finish! Fantastic place for dinner or a night out. I was also here with a friend and we had the best time eating and drinking in the bar."

  • "Only one vegetarian item (spaghetti) besides the salads on the menu. Not one vegetarian option for main dishes. Carrot terrine was just okay. The little gem salad and roasted beet side dish was great as was the spaghetti, but the sole was very salty. Last time we dined here we were served an amazing olive bread. This time it was just plain bread served toasted and not very interesting or tasty. The wine was great and the service was good, but our two previous dining experiences were much better."

  • "Great little place where you can have any bottle on their extensive wine list that's under $100, as a half bottle and pay half price! Means you can try a lot more wines!! Lovely service, cosy little place, food was very tasty."

  • "We came upon this find through the Wine Spectator article and it more than delivered. While there weren't a lot of people, the bartender assured us the neighborhood regulars do come later and polish off the many open bottles of fabulous wines left on the counter. The restaurant's open kitchen not only lets you see how they prepare their "foodie pub grub", they also let you open any bottle under $100 and drink/pay for only half (so sure they'll sell the other half by the glass or carafe by the end of the night). It was ingenious and allowed us to try 3 different wines from an extensive bottle list! Great, knowledgeable bar staff and truly the best "tavern", comfort food around. We were so stuffed we couldn't eat dessert!"

  • "I'd not heard of this until my sister mentioned it, and I thought I was familiar with that stretch of Valencia. Really great advice on interesting glasses of wine. Had 3 glasses (white from the french swiss border, pinot from Marin, mourvedre) and each one was somewhat unusual and delicious. I returned a week later to buy 2 bottles of the pinot. The food was outstanding -- the ham chop was unexpected, unusual, and delicous. The chicken had amazing spices flowing under the crisp skin. The Sweetbread breakfast muffin was crazy-indulgent. Go. Go now."
