Diner Reviews
  • "The time between food order and delivery was almost 1 hour!"

  • "I took a friend here one summer evening for her birthday. The wait service was fine. We each ordered a large dinner salad as a main course. The salads were soggy and flavorless. Her's was vegetarion and mine was the charred salmon. The salmon was not charred but maybe baked and dry. The waitress brought a chocolate cake with some whipped cream & raspberries as a free dessert for my friend. The cake was also hard & dry. Including drinks, tax, & a generous tip the bill was $125.00. Dinner at a local sandwich shop would have been much tastier & cheaper."

  • "Great food. Friendly staff. We will definitely be going again. This wS not our first time eating there. But, every time we do go it always seems to get better."

  • "We were celebrating my wife's birthday at your restaurant this past Friday evening. Several couples were seated at the same time as us and were waited on much faster than us, served drinks and food quicker than us as well. It seemed that our waitress would just forget about us at times and it didn't appear that she had that many other tables to wait on. Maybe she was just having a bad night. Other than slow service, everything else about our evening was very good. We will continue to visit your restarurant. Thank You."

  • "Dinner & brunch terrific! Dinner service perfect. Food was unexpectedly fine. Huge disappointment was no sticky buns at brunch! To make matters worse, the couple at the next table was loving theirs! How could they run out by 1 PM w/ many tables thereafter? Poor planning led to this disappointed diner."

  • "The occassion of visiting the St. Paul Grill was my mother's 92nd birthday. It was a brunch celebration and the food was outstanding, however, what was most memorable was how incrediably professional and courteous the entire staff was, from the doorman, to the hostess to our waiter. They were just amazing and everyone has a great time. Highly recommend and will definately head back again."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to me by a local. I made the reservation so that my wife and I could celebrate being together for 15 years. The menu had a great selection and everything on it sounded so-o-o-o good. The meals we selected were excellent. Afterwards, the selection of dessert was almost as difficult. I didn't think that we would be able to eat the entire portion, but we managed. The wine list was extensive. The service was very attentive. Our waiter answered all our questions and made some fine recommendations. The entire staff we met were very friendly."

  • "Great job with the food and service for a recent business group dinner I held at The Grill. Thank you to the team for being so helpful in planning and accommodating. Can't beat the view of Rice Park either."

  • "I was in St Paul for work and asked a friend from there where I should take a client for dinner and I was told of one place- St Paul Grill and Bar and it exceeded expectations. From the atmosphere, clubby, warm, inviting to our waiter who was knowledgable, funny and attentive. I ordered a steak, yes being from Chicago, and it was absolutely delicious. Only part of meal that I was not that happy about was dessert, I had key lime pie and it tasted spoiled and the waiter apologized and took it off our bill so they did the right thing. Huge thumbs up."

  • "We were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary, as well as my wife's 76th birthday, and it was great. The food and service were outstanding. I'm somewhat handicapped, and everybody went out of their way to accommodate my needs. We were all more than satisfied with our choice of the St. Paul Grill for our celebration. Thank you all."

  • "St. Paul Grill is consistently an excellent place for lunch. Service is attentive without hovering. Although not everyone's favorite, I love their calf liver, onions, and bacon lunch. Fork tender and flavorful!"

  • "Food preparation could have been better. Trout was somewhat dry and needed a sauce. French fry portion size was excessive. Meal was expensive, especially the wine list. However, service was excellent."

  • "Everything with the reservation and level of service at the restaurant was great. The noise level was a bit of a distraction, but yet it had a lively vibe and did not take away from the experience my guest and I had. Very attentive and respectful staff. The food was terrific. The Landmark Salad was one of the best salads I've had."

  • "It's pricey, but good. If I knew I would be spending $180 on dinner for two, I would have went someplace else. Still, the food was good but maybe not the best value. Great wine selection."

  • "The brunch could not have been better. Carmel rolls come with any entrée and were delicious. My omlet was huge and the hash browns on the side were the best. Upscale setting and lovely garden."

  • "We have been to St Paul Grill many times and have always enjoyed the food and the service. Our last visit the food was still fantastic but our service was not great, which was very disappointing. Our waiter seemed very uninterested in waiting on us and we had to flag him down for drink orders and dinner orders and he never stopped to see if we needed anything all evening. It was a Thursday evening and it was not very busy. When a total bill (not including tip) for four people was $271 one would expect more!"

  • "The St Paul Grill is a dinning destination. There is nothing more St. Paul then the St. Paul Grill. Great Fathers Day was had by all, including Dad, even if he had to pay. A good choice for the ambience that makes an occasion special."

  • "The food was excellent. Our server was efficient. But, the prices were outrageous ($305 with tip for 5 people/4 entrees/3 glasses of wine). And, the food was very, very slow in coming. We sat down at 7:30PM and our entrees did not come out of the kitchen until 8:40PM. We had to leave with "doggie" bags as my 90+ year old mother-in-law needed to get home."

  • "Great food, awful service. I had to ask multiple times for my drink order and it took over 2 hours to get our meal. In my opinion it seemed as if the waitress did not care about our table because we were younger 30ish. The table next to us arrived 20 minutes after us and ordered right before us and had their food, ate and left before we had ours. It was only after saying something did we get to give our order. Multiple times we ran out of drinks. This was suppose to be a special occasion and the dinner experience became a disappointment. I love the Saint Paul grill and this was the worst experience I have had there and I hope that it does not happen again or I will not be returning."

  • "Elegant environment, wonderful food, excellent for small intimate lunch or dinner, or a large gathering--we have had two graduation parties of seven to ten."

  • "We have enjoyed the Grill very much before ! This time , it was not good . The menu is not memorable , we each ordered a sandwich ,no thought to presentation when brought to our table. The prices would suggest otherwise , the dessert menu uninteresting . Strawberry shortcake was the featured dessert and it came to a table near ours . 6 inches tall ,dry looking circles of white cake , lots of whipped cream and a few berry's. We were glad we didn't order ~~~~~. Probably won't go back there again !!!!"

  • "The SPG is out go-to place for special occasions. The food is always prepared to perfection - we particularly like the fish options, and the service is exemplary."

  • "If a tablecloth and crumb brush turn you on, you'll love the St. Paul Grille and Bar. The food has always been wonderful there and the dark wood and high ceiling add an elegant, early 20th Century feel. For a simple, yet flavor-rich treat, start with the warm cheese appetizer. Great with that perfect glass of wine or a hard cider."

  • "Waitress and all wait staff were exceptional. They answered your food quantity questions so we shared food plates (they provided additional plates without being asked). I felt the all the employees there must be paid a living wage and so were happy to put the best of the organization forward. This was our first experience at the St Paul Bar and Grill and will not be our last. We spent three hours at this urban oasis and are very happy with the experience."

  • "We came here to celebrate our anniversary and everything was almost perfect the service was fantastic the food was excellent we each ordered a steak and they were to die for. The only thing is that it's pretty energetic and that it's a little on the pricey side but when it was all said and done I was totally comfortable with the price... Totally worth it..."

  • "My grandson had his 18th Birthday celebration with his family at St. Paul Grill. Our guest list began with 17 and dwindled down to 12 when we arrived. The staff quickly made the adjustment for us and began to seat us. As it turned out we miscalculated the number of guests and were two seats short. However, the staff again quickly adjusted the table grouping without a hitch! We were embarrassed we put the staff through all of this, but the staff keep reassuring us it was ok with them and accommodated us beautifully. The food was as usual excellent, and the service beyond our expectations. Thank you for making a milestone event in my grandson's life so enjoyable and fun for him. "
