Diner Reviews
  • " All dishes from start to finish were exceptional the duck and the lamb were as succulent, tender, and full flavored as any we have had. The most exciting dish was a warm beets and mozzarella salad with a citrus vinaigrette. It was a picture on the plate and the flavors worked marvelously. Service was smooth and continuous with just the right amount of help whenever it was needed. "

  • "We were stuck in the side room, felt cramped. Was not the romantic outing we'd hoped for. But, the food and service were amazing as usual. Kale ricotta gnocchi to die for."

  • "Found the restaurant on a site for Chattanooga restaurants and decided to give it a go as it was my first wedding anniversary. Loved it, great food, great service, awesome wine list and just a great all round experience. Would for sure go back again and would recommend to anyone. The Fois Grois appetizer was to die for and the Wagu beef main course was phenomenal. Give it a go you will not be disappointed"

  • "We (4) made reservations at the Restaurant for a special landmark anniversary and were not disappointed at the experience. Food was fresh, in season and balanced. Roasted Lamb was a special treat that impressed the entire table. Halibut was cooked perfectly and was moist and fresh. Service was very attentive, friendly and helpful. There are two certified sommaliers on staff which is great, and we found the wine list was more than adequate for us. Bread is made fresh on the premises and we especially enjoyed the potato sour dough. We ate upstairs and the atmosphere was relaxed, not overly impressive, but not dingy or out of date. All in all, a great dining experience and worth the price."

  • "Our party of four had a window table in the nicely private room on the left. Very comfortable and quiet. Food was great; especially the halibut. The small plates of lamb tartare and the trout hush puppies were a nice beginning. Service was excellent."

  • "The dining experience at St. John's is always stellar. The food is amazing and the wait staff are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We are always made to feel welcome. It's amazing that a town the size of Chattanooga has a restaurant of this quality. We are privileged, and St. John's is our very favorite restaurant for special meals."

  • "This restaurant was just for our romantic occasion and getting our hands on some high quality food and great tasting wine. It was also great to bump into some old friends from Lookout Mountain dinning at the same time.... Keep the great work up... it's Chattanooga's best kept secret!! But I'm telling all my friends about it..... Sorry!!! :)"

  • "My wife and I chose the St John's Restaurant for a Valentine's dinner and were not disappointed. the wait staff was both attentative and knowledgeable. We asked many questions about the main course and settled on the Strube Ranch Wagyu Beef Zabuton Steak and Roasted Beef Filet. After starting with a nice appetizer of sweet potato chips, warm bread, and organic salad, we were served the Zabuton and Filet. They were very both delicious, tender, and cooked to order. The ONLY caveat I would add is it seemed that the filet was the combination of two separate cuts of beef with a slightly different taste for each. The larger cut was excellent. The Zabuton was my favorite of the two. No hesitation recommending this restaurant to anyone."

  • "My daughter attended UTC, so we visited Chattanooga often over those 4 years ... never heard of this place. My daughter graduated, so we haven't visited in the past year and a half, but my husband and I decided to for the weekend. Found this place on Open Table and loved it! It's a little hard to find ... no big neon sign ... but well worth looking."

  • "If you are visiting Chattanooga, and your budget allows, you must dine at St. John's Restaurant. I have dined there twice and both experiences have been 10 out of 10."

  • "Once again, Danny has far surpassed my expectations for service, cuisine and menu playfulness. With nothing less than the finest attention to detail, St. John's Restaurant continues to be unmatched in the area. In order to find an equal, one would have to travel far and wide in search of a similar obsession with the culture of food and its preparation and artful presentation. St. John's will never dissapoint, Danny and his staff would not allow it."

  • "This is the second time going to St John's and it has been a couple of years versus the last visit. The food and seating location were excellent on the first visit, but a let down on this visit. If they put you in the back room it is quiet, but there is no ambience or real feeling of elegance of a fine restaurant. And the "US Kobe Beef" we had was nothing close to the tenderness of Kobe. The flavor was good, but that's about all. So, I hope this was an exception, but the question is whether we want to risk the financial investment to try again. For this price you want to be sure your dinner will be outstanding no matter what you choose or when you go."

  • "I live in Chattanooga and have eaten at St. Johns a lot. Every time I have been to the restaurant it is always the same. Excellent. The staff is always wonderful and a big part of the dinning experience. listening to them explain the way the dishes are prepared wil make your mouth water. The menu has a lot of local fare but it will have something for every one."

  • "Our son is chef/owner of a fine dining restaurant in Breckenridge, CO so the bar is set high whenever we dine out. We live locally and have eaten at St. John's many times. Our experience is consistently marvelous. We prefer second floor dining and secured our "favorite" table. Chef started our evening with an amuse bouche comprised of some interesting flavors that blended nicely. Our table of 4 enjoyed the apps; entrees were cooked to perfection and served at right temp. Presentations colorful, ingredients fresh. Nice wine list. Server was knowledgable and attentive. Service is engaging and friendly from time of arrival to departure. Team St. John's truly strives to make the dining experience worth coming back for more. Nicely done Daniel!"

  • "The food and wine were outstanding and the ambience was great. Without appetizer or dessert (though with a glass of wine each) we were at $75/person. This was a bit steep all things considered. You're paying for ambience as well as top-notch food. This was a great find for an early Valentine's date."

  • "The beet salad and the lobster frisee salads with fingerling potatoes were highlights and outstanding....however, seemed a bit short staffed and chaotic last night"

  • "I had the Broken Arrow Ranch Antelope and my plus-one had the NY Strip Filet. They were both delicious. My date had been accepted to pharmacy school and the staff gave her a complimentary ice cream in congratulation and she loved that. The lighting and decor were relaxing. The staff was knowledgeable in helping us select champagne and always kept our water glasses full. This was my first time dining at St. John's Restaurant and I will definitely come back again."

  • "The food and everything else at St. John's is great, but the mark-up on wine seems to be much higher than at other restaurants. Be careful or your bill will rise quickly."

  • "We went with another couple to celebrate my husband's birthday. They called me earlier in the day to confirm our reservation and further discuss our special requirements. When we arrived we were promptly seated and greeted by our server. The food was fantastic, artistic, and delicious, and the wine recommendations were spot on. We had a wonderful time and experience."
