Diner Reviews
  • "What a find! I searched open table for a night out with friends when we came to Chattanooga for the Four Bridges art show. We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. We all remarked that it was one of our best meals ever! The lamb was the tastiest I've ever had. The service was wonderful, never intrusive, always at hand and with great recommendations. I loved the decor, the paintings really added to the ambiance."

  • "I go regularly, and have never once had an speck of dissatisfaction. The changing menu is wonderful, and slows the ordering a bit, but who cares. The specialty drinks are always interesting concoctions, and the Spring Sangria offers a refreshing break. Not too sweet, hint of bitterness not usually found in sangria. The pitcher is the better deal over individual glasses. Even if others don't want or like it, others will drink it up. Whether ordering the Veggie plates or others, the menu will be enough, and everything cooked perfectly. Sorghum butter comes out with the delicious bread, though getting plain butter was extremely slow. Cracked pepper offered, but salt and pepper shakers came without a hitch. Great, semi-casual dining."

  • "My husband and I were visiting from out of town and went here for our anniversary dinner. The ambiance and service were perfect for a nice meal together. We got several of the small plates to share - our favorites being the shrimp rolls and the duck confeit with Johnny cakes and syrup. Two totally different tastes, but spectacular! Would highly recommend to anyone in the Chattanooga area looking for a neighborhood gem!"

  • "My husband and I were in Chattanooga on vacation celebrating our anniversary, and chose to come to the meeting place for our anniversary dinner. They sat us in an extremely comfortable, very romantic booth upstairs. Our server was attentive, helpful and very knowledgable about the menu, but did not hover. He made some great recommendations and we decided to share several small plates. Our absolute favorite were the smoked duck wings! The cocktails were amazing, balanced and creative. The burro en fuego was a revelation to each of us. We were blown away with the service we recieved and will definitely return next time we are in Chattanooga."

  • "Lamb tenderloin is amazing. I was glad to see duck wings back and loved the new way they were prepared (loved old way too)."

  • "Myself and my wife celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here. The staff was very welcoming and the food was fabulous. Our server had a very detailed knowledge of the food, which was very impressive. The size of the restaurant was fairly small, which made the sound louder than expected. This, however, did not take away from our experience in any way. We will be making this a yearly stop for our anniversary, as well as finding any other time to visit this restaurant. The price was on the high end, but much lower than I expected. Awesome Experience!"

  • "Went for a romantic dinner at 7 on a Thursday, and it was louder than a bar at midnight on Saturday. So that threw off the atmosphere we were looking for. The decor and tangibles (menu, linens, plates, etc.) were cheap for a restaurant sporting their prices. Portions were small but that's to be expected."

  • "We came here for our anniversary; what an experience! The food was amazing! I had the pan sear scallops and they were the best I have ever eaten. My husband was more than impressed with the fillet; tender juicy and perfectly cooked. The desserts; what a finish! The service was simply the best; not too little not too much. We will be back!"

  • "I went on Saturday after Valentine's day thinking the rush would be over, wrong. It was a little cramped and they had a set menu option along with their main menu. We enjoyed the food but the atmosphere was lacking due to being packed in like sardines. Typically we love this place but will avoid in the future for Valentines."

  • "Been to this restaurant several times. Food is always good, service was excellent this visit. We had a reservation and were seated upstairs near the bar and it got rather loud towards the end of dinner. They had a birthday party come in, so if you want to ensure a quieter, romantic evening make sure to request seating on the lower level."

  • "We have dined at St. John's Meeting Place several times and it is our 'go to' place when we want to have a wonderful meal and mark a special occasion. As early diners, we are there before the crowd and have our choice of seats in the bar where we relax before having our meal. We are definitely there for the food and service! The later it gets the more people there are and they are sitting quite close to you-but hey--it is the meeting place. Every experience has been great in light of what the restaurant can control. We have had situations where tables next to us don't keep their conversation at their table and you begin to feel your space is invaded. You're better off getting there early if you enjoy having your table to yourself."

  • "I had the chance to dine here in January with a business group. Our waitress was fantastic with excellent descriptions and recommendations on the food. She was attentive without hovering and everyone was delighted with their dinners. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want a great meal or are entertaining clients."

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to get away to Chattanooga for a romantic weekend. I did some research before we left, and came across St. John's Restaurant. Upon looking over the menu online, I noticed that they had a more casual sister restaurant. All the reviews were great, so we decided to give it a try….and so glad we did! We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Can't wait to try it again on our next visit to Chattanooga."

  • "The Meeting Place is next door to, and associated with, the best restaurant in Chattanooga, the St. John's. The drinks are perfect and new mixes are clever and worth trying. The food is impeccable, interesting, and delicious. The service is extraordinary. This has become one of our favorite places to go when eating out. The bill is often comparable to going to a chain steak house."

  • "food was great...lot of root veggies that we normally don't cook...monkfish and scallops were cooked perfect"

  • "Its been a while since we visited the Meeting Place, it won't be so long until we go there again. The lobster chowder was wonderful, and the bacon wrapped monkfish, although a little too smokey was well prepared. Service was a little on the "deliberate" side, but the house was completely full so that's understandable. All in all, a nice experience as always."

  • "We left the place we originally went to eat because they had an hour and a half wait. St. Johns through open table said they had a reservation for 6 for 7:45. We didn't get sat for at least half an hour."

  • "We were visiting Chattanooga and found the restaurant on Trip Advisor. I took my 10 yr old daughter there on a Daddy-daughter date. It's definitely NOT a kid friendly restaurant. That being said the food was excellent. She has a very sophisticated palate and enjoyed everything we ordered. I will definitely go back-with my wife- next time we're in town."

  • "The Meeting Place is one of my fav spots in Chattanooga - I have never been disappointed! It is a great place to go with friends and I love starting and ending the night in the upstairs bar!"

  • "We met friends here and all had raves for our food. Haven't been here for over a year and found the food to be as good as I remembered. Highly recommend the lamb dish."

  • "I've been to the meeting place a few times before, and I had no doubt the good would be amazing! I live out of town, but my friends and I were looking for a place to have a nice dinner and catch up while we were home for the holidays. I called earlier in the evening to change the reservation, but when we got there the change wasn't made. Our waitress was pretty much a nightmare. She greeted our table late, then after she took our drink orders I swear it took 20 minutes for them to come out! I'm also convinced she forgot to put in our dinner order, because that took even longer to come out. Despite this I would still recommend meeting place to friends because the food is amazing and I'm sure there are servers there who are amazing as well."

  • "Haven't had a bad dish here. Usually unique and cooked perfectly. Although ordering steak is commonplace, it is so melt in your mouth, it's hard not to order. Craft drinks are fun to try, wine list is quite good."

  • "I have gluten and dairy allergies and Chef de Cuisine Shane Stone was amazing in the way that he helped me navigate the menu and what he could substitute on different items. Our server, Hannah, was aware of our allergies and had a gluten free menu ready. I appreciate that St. John's Meeting Place has a staff that are attentive to food allergies and are so willing to work with those of us that have them so that we can have such a wonderful dining experience! I had the Olympic Peninsula Steelhead Trout Tostada with Gulf Shrimp and Avocado Mousse and the sauteed Sea Scallops with roasted root vegetables. The food was so amazing!! The Meeting Place gets 5 Stars from me!!"

  • "We've seen many reviews about The Meeting Place that complain about the noise level. That's probably true in the evening because the restaurant is not that large and it's very popular. We went early (5-7PM) and it was wonderful - quiet and very intimate. Perhaps as a result, we were able to relax and spend more time considering the menu. As many other reviewers have noted, the menu is creative and enticing - everything looks good! But the highlight for us was our server - Jenny - probably the best waitress we have ever had! She was delightful, very knowledgeable about every single dish and VERY patient as we homed in on our choices. She had a great sense of humor! Food was superlative, presentation was perfect.Great dining experience"

  • "This restaurant has become our preferred dining when we visit Chattanooga. The chef has impeccable pairings which do not fail to disappoint. The homemade bread and butter are reason enough to visit. Seriously the best lightly sweetened butter I've ever experienced! Our favorites small plates are fried goat cheese with honey drizzle as well as the seared tuna with relish. The entrees or large plates are too many to name, everything we have tried has been exceptional from the braised short ribs to the scallops, also the bacon wrapped quail is our newest favorite item. Try this place, you will not be disappointed!"

  • "Very Happy Hour at Meeting Place is one of the city's best-kept secrets! $5 wine and cocktail specials, bottles of bubbly for half-price with several choices, and a great range of excellent small plates--a perfect light dinner or prelude to a downtown event..and since they share a kitchen with St John, you get virtually the same remarkable talent at significantly more affordable prices. But don't tell anyone!"

  • "St. John's Meeting Place is my favorite restaurant in the entire State of Tennessee. The food is imaginative, it's always amazing and the service is fantastic! Every night that we have had the pleasure of having dinner at St. John's ends up being on "occasion". It is a must if you are in Chattanooga."

  • "my husband ordered his lamb well and it came out rare. the bread was very salty with little flavor his hashbrowns were dry and too salty the deserts and salad were very nice our server was great but for $40/person it was over priced especially since i only had soup. I would not recommend it to others and we will most likely not return but my soup was delicious"
