A word from St. Francis
A celebration of sustenance may best describe Chef Aaron Chamberlin’s restaurant, St. Francis. Located in a historic building on Camelback Road, just east of Central in uptown Phoenix, the family-owned, family-built and family-run restaurant welcomes patrons to a neighborhood gathering place. The repurposed space was transformed with a comfortably modern and rustic sensibility that echoes the honest, spontaneous “wood-fired cuisine. St. Francis is for everyday nourishment for families, couples and even for special occasions.
It’s for connecting with the community and sharing the pleasure of simple, honest and good food. The name, “St. Francis,” was derived from the
neighborhood land deed that dates back to 1936. It was originally owned by the Brophy family. In addition, the name, “St Francis,” is Spanish for San
Francisco, a city that figured largely in Chef Chamberlin’s background.

We took some close friends to dinner at St. Francis on a Saturday night -- go early (e.g., 6 pm before it gets too crowded, loud - upstairs better than down) and we found it to be just great...staff friendly and attentive; food - guys had the pork chops and ladies the fish - salmon and scallops -- was outstanding -- easily among the top three of places we have eaten at in Scottsdale and Phx area (and, we have eaten at many in our 20+ years here). Not a fancy place (think not like an Eddy V's - no white table cloths) however, it is a great price value compared to Scottsdale restaurants. We are looking forward to going back for a lunch - the pizzas looked fabulous! Give it a try...worth the drive over from almost anywhere in the Valley!

Our first trip to Phoenix has been a lot of fun. St Francis helped to put an exclamation point at the end of our trip. With 3 hungry 20ish sons we knew we had a winner as soon as we walked in the door. The place has got a great vibe with a excellent varied menu that allowed us to try lots of different dishes. From Pork to Flatbread to Salad, all were winners. A big thumbs up from the boys. I know we'll be back.

I enjoy going to Phoenix Public Market, the sister restaurant to St Francis, so I thought I would check this place out. The food was very good and plentiful! I delightfully took home half of my meatballs and enjoyed them again for lunch the next day. The service was the only thing that was a little lacking. Our waiter worked on his schedule, not ours. Although it was a not very busy Tuesday, he seemed to be trying to rush us out to flip the table. I also had to ask for water several time. I would definitely go back for the food!

Took a friend for her brithday to St. Francis for Sunday Brunch. Food was very good (potatoes were to die for), but it took us quite some time to actually get it (after we ordered we waited about 30 minutes for our food) and the place was not that crowded when we arrived. First time that I ever sat upstairs and I liked it. Less noisy up there. We did have a very pleasant waiter. The coffee was terrible (had to send it back) and the waiter indicated that the coffee is from Cartel coffee and they have gotten multiple complaintas about it. I hope they get a new brew.

A definite must when visiting Phoenix! I do not usually rave about a burger...but boy the Chile Burger was the BEST I have ever had; cooked to perfection, home-made bread, and the right blend of toppings made this a burger to remember. The chocolate ganache cake was decadent as well! We will definitely be back!

We have been dining here since they opened as we live just north. Great neighborhood place. Food always good to great. Service always mediocre to nonexistent. Over the years, the waitstaff and bartenders have turned over several times and yet service always poor. Obviously, must be institutional rather then personal.

Was a first time visit for us. Thoroughly enjoyed the food the atmosphere was great love the history of the brick oven that used to be a bakers oven from the 19 century. The baked goat cheese was amazing and the salmon was to die for. we also had the meatballs which had what I felt was a tad too much cumin in it but was still extremely delicious. Will definitely be going back for a second round.

Great food, very attentive staff, and diversity of choices on the menu and from the bar. Choosing from small plates to build a dinner, or ordering in the traditional style, I have never been disappointed here. Love the bread, specialty cocktails ( try the Paper Plane for a refreshing cocktail) and complimentary valet parking. Dinner is pretty noisy, which makes it difficult for some conversation, but the reasonable prices and excellent execution of the menu offset that.

St Francis is simply a MUST for incredible culinary delights - fresh, uniquely presented with a variety that covers the gamut of food tastes and preferences. We started with their Cucumber & Melon salad - light, fresh, yummy and the perfect dish to prepare us for nirvana . . . with the Pot Roast and Pork Chile Verde. We ummmmmm'd are way with every tasty melt in your mouth bite. Needless to say we can't wait to come back for our next evening to tantalize our taste buds. So as this review started - I'll politely, respectfully and emphatically conclude - St. Francis is a MUST . . . do not pass go, pass on the $200.00 and go straight to this incredible restaurant and ENJOY!

We had a great dinner there! It was a larger group and they were more than accomodating. I thought the food was good, nothing fancy or special. I had the special flatbread that night and it was ok. The sandwiches and flatbreads are priced accordingly but I thought the main dishes were definitely on the pricey side. The atmosphere was good though, and the bar area is cute. We had great service which also helped. All in all I'd go back :)

Went with a group of six. Groups I think are more difficult here. Loud, and environment--although cool and urban feel--not really conducive to easy conversation across a big table. Could do with some 6-top rework. Outdoors a little easier for hearing. Nice ambiance. Food seems to be hit or miss. Salmon delicious. Flatbread came out charred. Would love to see more small plate options and menu revisions seasonally.

We were seated ahead of our reservation even though the other couple hadn't arrived yet. That surprised us. We were there for lunch and three of us ordered the onion burger and the fourth choosing the chicken salad sandwich. It's a nice little restaurant but the drinks were weak, the food was so-so and $100 later we realized it was not a place we would return at all. My wife had the Salmon which was tasty but way overpriced, i had the Meat Pizza which was bland at best and our drinks, Jack & coke were ok, and her specialty drink tasted like dish soap to both of us. Not worth going with so many other restaurants in the area.

My two girlfriends and I met for Sunday brunch on 6/29/14 at 12:30 pm. I have had other delicious meals at St. Francis, but thought I would try something new; the chicken salad sandwich this time. I normally do not eat chicken very often, but have to say this sandwich was SO outstanding that I now find myself "craving" it. It was served like a wrap on flat bread and not a bun. I enjoyed the unusual Middle Eastern flavors that included the zatar spice, apricots and currants. It was blended in a light lemon vinegarette and THANK YOU, NO mayo! The only thing I might eliminate from the sandwich would be the tomato. It really wasn't needed and fell off the sandwich while I was eating it. The live Jazz music was great, too!

My wife and I went for our anniversary and St. Francis is truly a gem. Not only is it a beautiful space designed by a well known PHX Architect, the food and service is breathtakingly fantastic! Make sure you grab the bread plate to start - the bread is so good we have to take a loaf home every time we go. She had the pork chile verde with corn bread, I had the pork chop. The combination of flavors that hits your mouth makes your taste buds go wild with delight. The staff was prompt, friendly, and spot on. From fabulous cocktails, bread, food, atmosphere, and service - I'd recommend St. Francis to anyone who enjoys locally sourced, delicious food. A PHX must!
