A word from St. Francis
A celebration of sustenance may best describe Chef Aaron Chamberlin’s restaurant, St. Francis. Located in a historic building on Camelback Road, just east of Central in uptown Phoenix, the family-owned, family-built and family-run restaurant welcomes patrons to a neighborhood gathering place. The repurposed space was transformed with a comfortably modern and rustic sensibility that echoes the honest, spontaneous “wood-fired cuisine. St. Francis is for everyday nourishment for families, couples and even for special occasions.
It’s for connecting with the community and sharing the pleasure of simple, honest and good food. The name, “St. Francis,” was derived from the
neighborhood land deed that dates back to 1936. It was originally owned by the Brophy family. In addition, the name, “St Francis,” is Spanish for San
Francisco, a city that figured largely in Chef Chamberlin’s background.

  • "WE CHOSE ST FRANCIS BECAUSE I SAW IT FEATURED ON DINERS DRIVE INS AND DIVES. I LIKED THE IDEA OF COOKING EVERYTHING IN THE BRICK OVEN, THAT SEEMED REALLY COOL! WE DINED THERE RECENTLY TO CELEBRATE OUR WEDDING ANNI, AND HAD A VERY DELICIOUS AND MEMORABLE DINING EXPERIENCE! THE FOOD WAS FABULOUS AND OUR SERVER WAS AWESOME. WE WILL DEFINATELY BE BACK!"

  • "5 of us had dinner at St Francis on the recommendation of a friend. We arrived a little early for our reservation, but only had to wait a few minutes. Food service was a little slow, but it was a busy Saturday night, so we enjoyed each others company while waiting. The seating isn't very comfortable, some upholstery on the benches would help with that, and would also help with the noise level, which is very high. The food was very tasty, well prepared and cooked to order. The wait staff was attentive, water glasses were kept full. We tried several entrees from the menu, including the meatballs, burger and pork chili verde. We are always on the lookout for new places to try when we travel to Phoenix. St Francis did not disappoint. "

  • "We Saturday brunch there and were delightfully surprised. The Chile Verde I had was magnificent, and my wife's Fritatta was fantastic as well. We also tried thier famous pancake in a skillet. Spectacular."

  • "I took my husband to lunch for his birthday at St Francis. I was pleased that I quickly received an email from the restaurant offering a free flatbread (which was delicious). Our server was terrific (ask to sit in Tucker's section!) and we enjoyed the Moroccan meatballs and the pig dip. The meatballs were good, but the pig dip was AMAZING! Then Tucker gave us a complimentary dessert for his birthday. What a pleasant surprise and a delicious treat (apple crumb tart). We had a wonderful experience and I plan to host his 40th birthday there next year!!"

  • "I have been wanting to try St Francis for awhile. I loved the ease of reservations and the happy hour. I felt happy hour drinks were a fair price. I got the veggie flat bread that I thought was good. My husband got the pig dip which was just alright. Too pricey. The service was very slow and the beer was luke warm."

  • "Had a great dinner and enjoyed the atmosphere as well. We sat on the patio and had the Moroccan meat balls and dip sandwich that were featured on the Food Network, both of which lived up to their billing."

  • "St. Francis is a warm and welcoming urban restaurant. The food is very good, and the atmosphere is unique in a comforting way. We were in the neighborhood for theater to celebrate a birthday, and they made the celebration very special."

  • "We live in Tempe and our friends live in north Scottsdale, but we dared to go our of our zip code to try St. Francis after seeing and hearing so many good review. We enjoyed the two fish dishes, Salmon and White fish and were quite pleased. We introduced ourselves to the refreshing cucumber cooler. The fire rosted brocolli was a bit of a disappointment, there was really nothing fire-roasted about it. I appeared to be a regular plate of steamed brocolli. Other than that the patio dining was pleasant given the wonderful spring weather. I would recommend St. Francis and make a point to meet more friends there to pull them out of their zipcode."

  • "We had a late lunch / early dinner at St Francis and absolutely loved it. It was happy hour from 3-6, so we ordered a selection of different dishes and shared them. The baked goat cheese was to die for. Also enjoyed the fingerling potatoes, the moroccan meatballs and the forbidden rice. It was a nice relaxing, casual atmosphere with very firendly wait staff. Would definately come again the next time we are in town. Perfect with children as well."

  • "This restaurant was highlighted in "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives" on the Friday evening before we came on Sunday for brunch. The only problem is that I wish that pork sandwich was available during brunch too. The tomato baked eggs were delicious. We found the olive oil pancake to be room temperature and were expecting it to be hot so that was a little bit of a disappointment. The live jazz was awesome and I'd love to come back for an early evening during the week some time."

  • "I keep hearing about this restaurant so I decided to make reservations for an early dinner before a concert. I liked the look and "feel" of the restaurant and they had our table ready as soon we arrived. The patio was full so we were seated inside and the noise level was very distracting. I love seeing families enjoying eating out with their kids but we were seated next to a family whose little one loved to squeal & screech very loudly. The sound reverberated & made it a challenge to talk. The service started out slow but got better. Overall food was a disappointment. Overdressed salad, tasteless polenta, mediocre bread but the flatbread was very good. Toffee pudding the best! It wouldn't be on my "must" try list."

  • "Absolutely great food; we were a large group (9) so difficult to talk as sound did not travel well. Some confusion with our bills at the end. Would go back again but try outside seating. "Best chicken salad ever" state two diners at our table!"

  • "The St. Francis is just east of Central Avenue on Camelback Road. The menu has a variety of offerings, the majority of which I've really enjoyed. My personal favorite - Pork Chili Verde, served in a hot cast iron pan with a spicy pork thick stew including a roasted jalapeno pepper in the simmering sauce - topped off with a couple of fried eggs (extra chg) plus 2 wedges of homemade cornbread. The tables are on the small side and pretty close together, but if you have a larger group, there's three tables that can accommodate a minimum of 6. Parking is valet only - tip - no minimum charge. There's a side patio and small bar seating as well. The owners appear to be environmentally conscious - check out the restrooms."

  • "St. Francis is a wonderful place for some drinks and great food and we enjoy dining there. However, our orders have been incorrect on multiple occasions, including this time and we find ourselves not eating at the same time. Additionally, it tends to take the service staff a while to acknowledge the mistake. We will continue to dine at St. Francis and again, love the food and drinks."

  • "Everything was good, food, service, prices, etc., but just nothing memorable. The menu looked similar to other places in town, Beckett's Table and Salty Sow are two that come to mind, only they do a better job and have more selections than St Francis. Menu was very limited, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if everything you have is great, but nothing here has the wow factor, nothing unique, but just more of what others are already doing in the valley. The Pork Chile Verde is done by everyone now, unfortunately none can match The Roaring Fork's version. Like I mentioned already, everything is good enough so you won't be disappointed, but just don't expect anything to knock your socks off."

  • "There is a limited menu, but sometimes that is good. Food was very good, not great. I think the best thing is the atmosphere, the reasonable prices, and the outdoor seating"

  • "This was our first time bruncging at your establishment. loved the location. Our waiter a young blond haired guy was super attentive and so sweet. he was knowledgeable and made great recommendatiions. it felt like w were sitting outside in a neighborhood hotspot in new york city."

  • "3 of us had delicious entrees. The 4th asked for his burger to be well done. It was served very rare. He sent it back & everyone else finished their meals & the plates were cleared before his burger came back. It was very well done & dry. Had to mention to our wonderful waiter that management didn't come by. He told the manager who then came by to apologize. It was blamed on a very disorganized kitchen. Manager used "disarray." As in, we are in complete disarray tonight. So not what we've experienced in the past."

  • "Have eaten here 5+ times now - we live in the SF Bay Area. Having said that, every time we are in Phoenix we make it a point to eat at St. Francis. Food has such vibrant taste. Beautifully prepared and so fresh. Sadly they did not have our favorite side dish - polenta. But they did have garbanzo beans with chorizo and currants. Wow! I had chili verde with eggs on top. As good as I have had anywhere (and I spend a lot of time in New Mexico). My better half had the salmon (she has it every time)...good as always. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert - not so sweet and beautifully paired with rich ice cream which helps cut down on the sweetness. Can't wait for out next trip to Phoenix - someday we will get to St. Francis for Sunday brunch!"

  • "Very few Phoenix places have an upstairs. It's long and narrow and has several two place tables. It's quieter than the lower level and great for couples' dining."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "the food at St. Francis is wonderful but the ambiance is awful unless you like really loud, pulsing music or can sit upstairs where the noise level is better. I think they are catering to an under 30 crowd and since we are not in that demographic will not plan on returning unless we can be guaranteed an upstairs table."

  • "Food was flavorful, service was exceptional thanks to Heather and especially thanks to Colin the manager that evening. Our appetizer of baked Goat Cheese arrived quickly and found it to be very good. We got the Meat & Potato's along with the Moroccan meatballs. 1st time the entrees came out the prime rib was stone cold and the meatballs were cold in the center. Heather quickly took them back to the kitchen. 2nd attempt prime rib was perfect, and meatballs were nice and hot through out. I did notice they just reheated the same meatballs and can tell this from where I cut into it originally. Portion size great definitely had doggie bags. Moved down to the bar for after dinner drinks and some coffee. No espresso or cappuccino avail."

  • ". . . and low prices make this a bargain, but the food and service made me want a return visit the next night---with my family. Yje stuffed poblano peppers were exceptional, for dessert PB&J is as original as it is yummy. Great flavors, unusual combinations. Wish I lived closer."
