A word from St. Francis
A celebration of sustenance may best describe Chef Aaron Chamberlin’s restaurant, St. Francis. Located in a historic building on Camelback Road, just east of Central in uptown Phoenix, the family-owned, family-built and family-run restaurant welcomes patrons to a neighborhood gathering place. The repurposed space was transformed with a comfortably modern and rustic sensibility that echoes the honest, spontaneous “wood-fired cuisine. St. Francis is for everyday nourishment for families, couples and even for special occasions.
It’s for connecting with the community and sharing the pleasure of simple, honest and good food. The name, “St. Francis,” was derived from the
neighborhood land deed that dates back to 1936. It was originally owned by the Brophy family. In addition, the name, “St Francis,” is Spanish for San
Francisco, a city that figured largely in Chef Chamberlin’s background.

We learned about St. Francis from a TV show that featured the iron skillet pancakes, which piqued our interest. We made a reservation prior to the football game for Sunday brunch. It was a wonderful choice (even though a little far from the game). The assortment of goodies on the baker's board were some of the best breads we've ever had. Around the table, each raved about the frittata, the benedict, the tomato-baked eggs, the chorizo scramble and, yes, the iron skillet pancakes. A very pleasant treat was the live music (we hadn't known there would be a jazz trio), which elevated what was already an outstanding brunch experience. Service was excellent. St. Francis is definitely on our list for our next visit to Phoenix.

Looking for a spot outside of our neighborhood and this was recommended. Four adults and two kids went. We had the onion burger, salmon, and pork Verde all wonderful. Kids had flat bread pizza and meatballs. They loved pizza but the meatballs were Moroccan and had a spice that they didn't like but the adults did. The desserts were also yummy...we ordered one of each as there are only three and shared.

We have yet to be disappointed at St. Francis! We have been there perhaps a dozen times and each time is as wonderful as the time before! I tried the eggplant parmesan this time and it was delicious. My husband had a veggie flatbread and was also very satisfied. My only complaint is that we did not have room for dessert!

Eggs Benedict reigns supreme for Brunch at St Francis. A delightful mix of fresh ingredients come together in sheer perfection. The atmosphere that accompanies the food is hip and trendy. A musical trio provides an extra bonus on Brunch day that adds to the ambience. This is a busy place and a reservation is strongly suggested.

All the way around it was not a good experience. The seating was uncomfortable, the food took at least if not more than 20 minutes to come out and once it did my sandwich was burnt. The waiter hardly checked on us and with the water glasses so small we didn't have anything to drink. Once we were ready to leave I couldn't get the waiters attention so we sat there for a long period just waiting. It was very frustrating but because it was my sons birthday I did not say anything. Had I been in a different situation I would absolutely have brought all this to their attention. It was very disappointing.

Had the Pig Dip sandwich and rank it right up there with the best I've ever had. The roasted pork, gruyere cheese, apple wood bacon and caramelized onions on the French baguette were like a symphony of flavor. And the flatbreads are huge and tasty. The ambiance is more like Chicago or New York than Phoenix. Very lively crowd and busy for lunch. Make a reservation. And oh yeah, I had the flavorful salad with the sandwich and glad I did, the sandwich was huge and the fries would have been over the top. Although they looked really good. Great service and friendly staff also.

This food network featured restaurant did not disappoint. It was in a modern setting but laid back interior, staff and vibe. The food was exceptional and service by a waiter with an infectious smile. It was a nice end to a conference with some new friends. We had happy hour drinks and flat bread pizza and baked goat cheese for apps and we shared the scallops with eggplant puree and salmon for dinner. Even the bathroom was cool with the safe in it.

We took some close friends to dinner at St. Francis on a Saturday night -- go early (e.g., 6 pm before it gets too crowded, loud - upstairs better than down) and we found it to be just great...staff friendly and attentive; food - guys had the pork chops and ladies the fish - salmon and scallops -- was outstanding -- easily among the top three of places we have eaten at in Scottsdale and Phx area (and, we have eaten at many in our 20+ years here). Not a fancy place (think not like an Eddy V's - no white table cloths) however, it is a great price value compared to Scottsdale restaurants. We are looking forward to going back for a lunch - the pizzas looked fabulous! Give it a try...worth the drive over from almost anywhere in the Valley!

Our first trip to Phoenix has been a lot of fun. St Francis helped to put an exclamation point at the end of our trip. With 3 hungry 20ish sons we knew we had a winner as soon as we walked in the door. The place has got a great vibe with a excellent varied menu that allowed us to try lots of different dishes. From Pork to Flatbread to Salad, all were winners. A big thumbs up from the boys. I know we'll be back.

I enjoy going to Phoenix Public Market, the sister restaurant to St Francis, so I thought I would check this place out. The food was very good and plentiful! I delightfully took home half of my meatballs and enjoyed them again for lunch the next day. The service was the only thing that was a little lacking. Our waiter worked on his schedule, not ours. Although it was a not very busy Tuesday, he seemed to be trying to rush us out to flip the table. I also had to ask for water several time. I would definitely go back for the food!

Took a friend for her brithday to St. Francis for Sunday Brunch. Food was very good (potatoes were to die for), but it took us quite some time to actually get it (after we ordered we waited about 30 minutes for our food) and the place was not that crowded when we arrived. First time that I ever sat upstairs and I liked it. Less noisy up there. We did have a very pleasant waiter. The coffee was terrible (had to send it back) and the waiter indicated that the coffee is from Cartel coffee and they have gotten multiple complaintas about it. I hope they get a new brew.

A definite must when visiting Phoenix! I do not usually rave about a burger...but boy the Chile Burger was the BEST I have ever had; cooked to perfection, home-made bread, and the right blend of toppings made this a burger to remember. Great food, very attentive staff, and diversity of choices on the menu and from the bar. Choosing from small plates to build a dinner, or ordering in the traditional style, I have never been disappointed here. Love the bread, specialty cocktails ( try the Paper Plane for a refreshing cocktail) and complimentary valet parking. Dinner is pretty noisy, which makes it difficult for some conversation, but the reasonable prices and excellent execution of the menu offset that.

St Francis is simply a MUST for incredible culinary delights - fresh, uniquely presented with a variety that covers the gamut of food tastes and preferences. We started with their Cucumber & Melon salad - light, fresh, yummy and the perfect dish to prepare us for nirvana . . . with the Pot Roast and Pork Chile Verde. We ummmmmm'd are way with every tasty melt in your mouth bite. Needless to say we can't wait to come back for our next evening to tantalize our taste buds. So as this review started - I'll politely, respectfully and emphatically conclude - St. Francis is a MUST . . . do not pass go, pass on the $200.00 and go straight to this incredible restaurant and ENJOY!

We had a great dinner there! It was a larger group and they were more than accomodating. I thought the food was good, nothing fancy or special. I had the special flatbread that night and it was ok. The sandwiches and flatbreads are priced accordingly but I thought the main dishes were definitely on the pricey side. The atmosphere was good though, and the bar area is cute. We had great service which also helped. All in all I'd go back :)
