  • "Very nice evening for my quest and myself, only one chance for first impression, thank you for your help! "

  • "We had our out of state management in for meetings. St. Elmo's earned an A++, food was great as was the service!"

  • "We were there on a Saturday night, one of the first nice-weather days this year. The restaurant was especially noisy due to a large birthday party. We had reservations at 6pm, and had to wait 5 minutes for our table. The atmosphere is not what I would call intimate, although it is nice. The waiter was affable and prompt with his service. He did forget to bring us the shrimp cocktail, but quickly rectified the mistake. My date and I each had spinach salad and navy bean soup, which were outstanding, and the filet mignon. We were each happy with our filets, although I have to say that mine was perhaps not the finest that I had ever had; it slightly lacked the depth of flavor that I would have expected. "

  • "Great steak. Unbelievable shrimp. Extensive wine list. "

  • "My boss and I came in from Pittsburgh and met a client at St. Elmo's for dinner. We had the most wonderful server! He was a tall African American Man who said that he was "The new kid on the block," with only being there for 7 months. We were floored by his exceptional service and knowledge of the menu. We had thought he had been there for years by his charming and confident demeanor. As for the food, My boss and our guest had very large steaks and one with the Lobster bisque. They were very pleased with their meals ( even though we had to box most of the food.) As a whole our experience at St. Elmo's was terrific and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone just as it was recommended to me!"

  • "You have to order the famous shrimp cocktail, if not you will be sorry! Also purchase a bottle of the sauce to take home. With your entree you get a choice of Navy Bean Soup or Tomato Juice, be sure to take the soup, there is none better. You can not go wrong with any of their steak choices. Trust and follow the very knowledgeable wait staff, they will not steer you wrong. Great ambience, as one of the oldest restaurants in Indianapolis, and take time to see years of celebs pictures hanging on the walls. They are in a very old building with numerous dining rooms with wooden trim and tin ceilings. If you are into wine and you have time and they are not too busy, ask for a tour of the wine cellar, in the basement it is worth the time."

  • "We love your restaurant. We love your food. We love your service. We are beginning to cringe @ the noise level. We could not even speak across the table the last 3 times we have dined. "

  • "Dined early to make a connection. Steak was expertly prepared, but not from the very finest beef. Baked potato was underdone--perhaps it's unwise to order one at 5:00, but you'd expect to be warned. By-the-glass wine choices were excellent, if a little spendy. Desserts first rate. Ambience is dark and old-fashioned almost to the point of being a bit seedy. The menu was a single laminated card--it reminds one of a diner. At 5:00 on a Monday we were pretty much alone, but by 6:00 the place was filling up, and the noise level made conversation problematical--I expect it's a good deal too "energetic" for my taste at peak hours. All in all, a good but not great choice for those seeking the old-fashioned steakhouse experience."

  • "This was our first visit To this legendary establishment. My wife had a good steak and dinner. But my experience was not so great. My steak was tough, Gristly, and impossible to chew. Due to my strong desire to not mar this event. I did not complain This was wrong to do, but I was in disbelief and denial,On the positive side. The service was absolutely outstanding. And the atmosphere is classic. I would not return to or recommend this restaurant. The noise level in the dining room was too high to converse, but we were in the good company of a lot of hungry firefighters."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary with a lovely dinner at St. Elmo. Shrimp cocktail was delicious, as was the seafood chowder, wedge salad (we shared the cocktail and salad). Filets were perfect!"

  • "I brought my wife in for her birthday and we loved every minute. As always, the ambiance food and service were top notch. I was really surprised about the Sunday menu which is an incredible deal. I would encourage anyone who loves great food and wants to experience some of the history of Indianapolis to stop in and enjoy."

  • "Each time we visit St Elmo's the food is cooked to perfection and the service is impeccable. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a great steak and shrimp cocktail."

  • "I had a 4:15 res. and arrived at 4:10 thanks to the $3 mall parking garage across the street. Friendly wait staff showed us to our seats and informed us that the other two of our party had just been seated. I know there is more to the place, but if you get a 4 top against the wall in the 1st room, then 2 people better be prepared to either use only one arm or the two on the outside will need to scooch into the aisle a little bit. I like my steak well done and it came to the table a little under medium well. The waitress apologized and took it back. She asked if I wanted a salad but I declined as there was fresh parmesan bread still. Waited around 10 mins for my steak and it was a new one that was cooked just right. Overall it was nice..."

  • "From the minute you are seated, you are a pampered guest. St. Elmo's consistently delivers the best food, service, and dining experience without a single glitch. Nothing anywhere has ever compared to the excellence here and we make sure to stop every time we are in Indy."

  • "The food was exceptional and the service was superb. We attend a conference annually in Indy and dinner at St. Elmos is always a part of the trip."

  • "We dine at St. Elmo's every time we are in Indy. The food is always outstanding but the service can be inconsistent. However, there have been a few times where service was above and beyond (i.e., had bread pudding delivered from another restaurant down the street because it was not on their menu). The wine list is large; recommend aksing the Sommelier for recommendations."

  • "It was overall excellent. One of our dinner party guests ordered the steak special and it was not as large as thought and he was dissappointed so he regrets his decision. I also was dissappointed with the ribeye. I should have got the filet. It was a little over cooked for my taste. It got very loud when a table next to us was very loudly laughing at each other so it made it a little unenjoyable. The waiter was amazing and catered to our every need."

  • "Food, Service, everything was spectacular. Steak and Shrimp Cocktail are #1."

  • "We were there for a convention, we allways try to get to St Elmos . Seating upstairs near the bars is terrible, you wil be bumped into during your meal. We had the wine cellar which is perfect for groups. The servce was awsome. The shrimp cocktail is well known for the the very hot sauce and did not disisappoint. I had the lobster soup and while it was good ,it was served luke warm. The steaks and sides were awsome. The place is pricey but worth the money,"

  • "St Elmo Steak House is Indy's finest. The entire staff is always friendly and goes out of their way to take care of the customers. Matt at 1933 always takes care of his bar and the patrons. Vlad was our server for dinner and is the best and very engaging. Had a great evening!"

  • "Came in from Ohio for a convention. I have been at St. Elmo's before decided to bring the rest of my employee's here everything was outstanding can not say enough about our server and as always the food was fantastic."

  • "Traditions are still adhered to at St Elmo's. From the bean soup or tomato juice to the dessert, each bite was amazing. The shrimp cocktail cannot be missed. The filet, the salmon, and the surf&turf were delicious. Green beans and potatoes were great too. The service was impeccable. Pleasant and kind too."

  • "I had the 'elmo cola', Shrimp cocktail, bone-in prime rib and king crab mac n cheese. Everything was fantastic. The shrimp cocktail will scald your sinus. After my second bite the waiter came over to see if everything was ok, I told him they were tears of joy. 1st time ever having bone-in prime rib. I must say it was one of the most delicious cuts of meat I have ever had. The au jus and dill sauce complimented each other well. The king crab mac n cheese is plenty for 2 and very tasty. Would be excellent mac n cheese even without the crab. The 'elmo cola' was good, but nothing special from any good bourbon and coke.(I live near Kentucky, perhaps I'm spoiled in this department.) Had no room for dessert. All-around great place."

  • "If your going to this place it is for one reason only, steaks. The food was excellent. The service was okay."
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "As always, the expectations for St. Elmo's is quite high. ANd this, as well as any other time, the staff and kitchen have met and exceeded expectations. THe food is always superb, and the staff makes us all feel welcome and special, even though we are well into their grueling shift. THis is, an always has been, among the finest restaurants anywhere. Not fancy, but quite warm and inviting it is outstanding steak and freindly staff."

  • "This place always hits 10 out of 10. The food is incredible, the service is outstanding and the Wine/Beer list is worthy of looking at. Not in the mood for food but for drinks? Drink at the bar on the main floor or head up stairs to the Lounge."
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "Steaks were quite a bit more rare than requested. I know this complaint seems trivial, but there are certain expectations at a restaurant known for 30-50$ entrees. Still a beautiful space and great for special occasions (or showing off)."

  • "Despite some obviously too sophisticated foodie reviews out there about St. Elmo, if you want a good steak in Indianapolis, this is the place to go. Both their wet- and dry-aged steaks come from a well-heeled supplier in Chicago that knows their beef. Perfectly seasoned steaks that feather when tugged on with a fork makes the knife almost unnecessary. And the shrimp cocktail, the only appetizer on the menu, should never be ignored. A pungent, strong, cocktail sauce made in-house will clean the palate and the nostrils at the same time."

  • "I've been to St. Elmo's in Indianapolis a number of times before. I usually walk out of there delighted. This time was a little different. The service was great as always. The ambiance fantastic. What else can you say about the Shrimp Cocktail? Best ever. But my steak was a little below the standard that I am used to from St. Elmo's. Not that it was bad. It was good. But I'm used to the steaks being spectacular, not just good. Maybe it was just the "Special"? I had the "Dry-aged Sirloin" special. My wife had the Filet, and it was very good. I just hope that is not going to be the standard for my future visits."

  • "The food was superb. Service was stellar. Service staff antacipated dining members needs before asking for assistance. Appreciated the customer service of a call a day prior to the event to confirm the reservation. Would recommend that if the event is a larger business meeting not to do the event in the evening. The noise level was so high that conversations were difficult to hear. Our party consisted of 8 people."

  • "There's a reason St. Elmo's has been a leading Indianapolis venue for more than 100 years. Great food, outstanding service and reasonable pricing are just the beginning of this near perfect dining experience. Highly recommended!"

  • "It was good food but not great and our standards were built up by its reputation. We had a nice time though and it is a historical landmark. My husbands steak was not medium, as he ordered, but medium rare ( somewhat inexcusable for a reputable steak house) I had strange floaties in my glass of wine and it wasnt cork, my green beans were barely luke warm, and my entree was barely warm. We were not asked if we would like ground pepper which is a fairly standard practice. They did give us a free delicious dessert for our anniversary which was nice. But food was def disappointing which is sad because this was part of a surprise for my husband. I expected 4 star restaurant considering hollywood goes there when in town and considering the prices"

  • "I've lived in Indianapolis for almost three years and had never been to St. Elmo. When my mom told me she was coming to town and wanted to celebrate an award I'd recently received she said we should go some place nice that I'd never been. We, of course, started with the shrimp cocktail -- I love spicy, so I thought it was absolutely PERFECT. My mom had a glass of the red Zinfandel and I had the Bourbon Trail Lemonade. I had the lobster bisque, which was creamy and delicious. We split the Surf 'n Turf with the 8oz filet (cooked medium, a perfect hot, pink center) and ended the meal with the creme brulee! I will definitely come back and would recommend it to anyone!"

  • "I went to St. Elmo's for my birthday dinner with full intention of indulging in a great steak and some good wine. Service was very good and I ordered a 30 day old dry aged bone-in ribeye ($54) which came highly recommended by the waiter. On receiving my order, everything looked fine but in honesty, the steak just wasn't that good. It lacked flavor and was not "epic" as I had been expecting. The sides were nice (no nicer than other top steak houses) and the overall experience was positive. However, for what was supposed to be the best steak house in Indianapolis, I felt their steak quality was lacking. It was good but not great, and to be blunt, I've had better steaks at both Harry & Izzy's (Northside) and Ruth Chris' (Downtown)."
