  • "The food was excellent and the service was top notch. First impression was outstanding. Can't wait to visit again!"

  • "I wanted a place to take her out for a romantic evening - and it was the best. We made the reservations early and when we arrived we were taken to our assigned seating. The gentleman who watched over our table; gave us ample time to make ourselves comfortable. Then he provided us with our menu. What an exceptional menu; although, we were there for the Devourer Downtown, we were treated as we were the only ones there. The wait staff was quick and ensured that we were well treated. The food preparation, for the entire meal, was at the 5 star level. The gentleman who served us was polite, efficient, and professional. He catered to our needs and made some super recommendations. Best place to eat in Indianapolis!"

  • "First time at St. Elmo's and it was a time to remember. From the ambience to the service to the food, it was our best experience ever! Thanks to our waiter, Dana, who was top notch! And there was a card there welcoming us to our table recognizing our anniversary !"

  • "My husband and I were there to celebrate our anniversary. The service was excellent, as was the food. There's a very old-timey vibe to the place, and we really enjoyed it. Definitely a lovely place for a special occasion."

  • "Great food but even better was our server. He gave great service, appropriately paced and truly went above and beyond"

  • "The staff was very nice. We were waited on promptly. We over heard one of the other servers explaining the menu in detail to the tables near us. Our server wasn't as informative but was polite and checked on as frequently. We didn't have to wait long for our meals and our steaks were cooked to perfection. The green beans and mashed red potatoes were delicious. We were served three different kinds of breads that everyone at the table seemed to enjoy. We ended our evening with desserts consisting of cheese cake, chocolate cake and cream brûlée. I would not have changed anything about our delightful evening. We had heard so much about your unique restaurant and wonderful food that we just had to try it for ourselves. We were not disappointed."

  • "Our evening had a bumpy start. Despite arriving 15 minutes early we were not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation. However, the made up for this by comping us some of their famous shrimp cocktail. Once seated the food and service was amazing. My friends and I plan to make St. Elmo's a Gencon tradition."

  • "My wife & I have been celebrating our birthdays here for the past ten years... and we don't even live in Indy any more. We plan a trip back each summer to enjoy the great food & service... it's the best restaurant in the city in our opinion."

  • "I have always had excellent experiences at St. Elmo's, but this last visit was sub par. Disappointing when a waiter is trying to hurry you out of a half full restaurant 10 minutes after he uncorked your second bottle of wine. And no, the mashed potatoes are not the "cheesy potatoes"....."

  • "Celebrated my birthday with friends before the Colts game and had a wonderful meal. Service was excellent and the complimentary dessert was a nice touch. I highly recommend St. Elmo's for any occasion."

  • "The atmosphere is cool and classic. The food was very good and the famous shrimp cocktail is a must. Glad to cross this off my Indy bucket list!"

  • "Went there to get steak, picked out the dry ages rib eye and it was great. Can be pricing, my friend and I walked out just under $300 but we are fans of steak and scotch so what you order is obviously going to effect your purchase. There is one area that is all booths, but we were sat in a different area of open tables that I did not prefer. I would go again, but if they sat me in the "cheap seats" I would leave or request another booth personally."

  • "The food was fantastic. Although they are famous for the Shrimp Cocktail, it was far surpassed by the rest of the meal. The Navy Bean soup, was flavorful in a very umami way. The Lobster Bisque has an impressive amount of Lobster but was a little too thick and a bit rich. The Bone-in Ribeye was buttery and seasoned to perfection. The Tuna may have been the best Tuna I've had, not in a while but ever. The wine list was nice, it had lots of choice and it was filled with quality wines at fairly reasonable prices. The hollandaise sauce on the Asparagus was great and the Creamed spinach was out of this world. The server had intimate knowledge of the menu, bar, & wines. The pacing of the meal was perfect. No detail was overlooked."

  • "My girlfriend and I both in our 20's went their for the supposed service and steak. The service was worse than I have had at low end chains like steak and shake. The waiter never came over unless I waved him down. He went to other tables though. The steak was dry and was not as good as Morton's or even Longhorn. I assume he was stereotyping because he thought because I was young I would not tip. Also, both my girlfriend and I were dressed up (I was in a suit). I always tip high for excellent service (over 20%). To prove him wrong I still tipped 15% although he did not earn it."

  • "We really enjoyed our trip to St. Elmo's. The food was terrific and the service was impeccable. Our only complaint was being seated in the basement next to the restrooms, but it didn't really detract from the experience. We highly recommend St. Elmo."

  • "My Steak was suppose to be Medium, but when I got to the middle it was completely raw... Then I had to wait about 5 minutes to finally grab a waiter that was not even mine,,, Mine still was not around. My waiter did not come around until my food was gone for a couple minutes. Then when my food was brought back out my steak was completely well done not medium like I asked for... My waiter did not check on my steak until I almost had it gone... I showed him the well done steak. They did take my steak off the bill but that is a hassle you done expect at a steak house as famous as theirs..."

  • "Every year we come to Indy for Gen Con. We found St Elmo 4-5 years ago and loved it. It is our #1 restaurant that we must go to when in Indy! The service and food are phenomenal. Off the charts really. This time around, we sat in the wine cellar and that was pretty quiet and away from the upstairs atmosphere. So if you're looking for that then request it. The drinks are delicious, the food is grand, and the staff are amazing. Do you need to know anything else? Oh yeah, be sure to book your reservation far in advance.. (for Gen Con, I do it a week prior) Because you can't usually just roll in and expect a table. Cheers!"

  • "This is a must on the list of restaurants when in Indy. The shrimp cocktail is smothered in a mind-blowing cocktail sauce. The menu is simple, there's steak. They also have fish and some chicken, but I can't imagine why anyone would go there for that. There isn't a lot of pretention like you'll find at other high end steak places, but that's why I liked it. Nice atmosphere. We didn't sit at the bar, but it looked really great."

  • "Although seemingly your basic local steakhouse, this restaurant has a ton of character, great service and the food was outstanding. The reputation of the shrimp cocktail is deserved. Not only were the steaks excellent, but all the sides particularly the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. A very extensive wine list including some rare gems was the icing on the cake for me."

  • "I love St Elmo's--classic old school steak house. Service could have been a little better, both in terms of pacing and cleanup. If you are buying wine look to the Spanish part of the list for decent value."

  • "We went to St. Elmo's while in town taking our son to Butler. A friend suggested we try it and we were not disappointed. We have been to some of the best steak houses in Chicago and this ranks right up there. The service was top notch and the steaks were fantastic. The menu was on the small side, but, it was clear that they what they offer is very good."

  • "I have never been disappointed in St Elmo's. Great steaks in an old world fine dining ambience. Only slightly jarred by the idiot a couple of tables away that thought it appropriate to come to a place like this and keep his ball cap on while seated. Hardly the fault of the restaurant though. The steak was prepared flawlessly. The shrimp cocktail was not quire as hot as usual, but still delicious. The side veggies were improved. The staff was always there when needed but did not hover."

  • "I have had the pleasure of enjoying great steaks at some of the world's finest restaurants. Chicago, Dallas, New York, and even some of the lesser known but great places in the states I grew up in, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. St Elmow was equal to any of these places but their cocktail sauce, forget about it. That is worth a quick stop any day. I also have to compliment the wait staff. They were as professional and friendly as humanly possible."

  • "St. Elmo's offers some of the best steaks I have eaten. I had an 18 oz dry aged ribeye on this trip that was fabulous. They are famous for their shrimp cocktail, which is excellent, but I believe the quality of their steaks is what really sets them apart. A bit pricey, but they have a wine list that is second to none. I'm sure any wine snob would go home happy. We've been there several times on trips to Indy to see the races, and the service has been outstanding........ even though they were extremely busy. Beverages never go empty, empty plates removed quickly, friendly wait staff, etc. Just remember to take a suitcase full of money......... but it's worth it!!"

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times in past years. The shrimp cocktail remains excellent. Good waiters. A classic place. However, after bragging to my son about the steaks, the filet he ordered was very ordinary by comparison to, say, Ruth's Chris, where the prices are similar. The real problem here was the Prime Rib. It was tough, fatty and gristly. I sent the first one back and received its identical twin the second time. Literally, St. Elmo should be ashamed of themselves for serving that poor quality beef, and if that is the best they can do, Prime Rib should be removed from the menu. Whatever you do, don't order Prime Rib at St. Elmo."

  • "I have been going to St Elmos on and off for the last 10 years. I was in Indianapolis on vacation with 2 of my friends and we wanted to have a nice Saturday dinner. It was pretty clear our waiter was more interested in doing something else than paying attention to us, even though we were sitting at a table where everyone walked by. I would complain more about the poor service time, however, even when our waiter did come over, we couldn't understand him. When we finally received our steaks they were all undercooked. My medium rare was close, but my friends medium well was rarer than mine! I would have mentioned this to the waiter, but he dropped off the food and ran away as quick as he could and never checked up on us. Very dissapointed."

  • "Everything I had was delicious. Steak, shrimp cocktail, tomato juice, cheese cake - all delicious. The steak was the best I've ever had, as was the shrimp cocktail. I only wish I could afford to go more often."

  • "What a great place! So glad we went there. From the time you enter to the time you leave - first class all the way. We had a great waiter - Phil who was knowledgeable, helpful and kept an eye on you without hovering. Highly recommend this place and you have to try the shrimp cocktail which they are known for. I don't even care for it and could not stop eating it! Hot Hot Hot."
