Diner Reviews
  • "Our food was prepared as requested. The taste of our steaks was wonderful. It was a very enjoyable experience. Looking forward to eating there again next year."

  • "We went to St. Elmo's for a special occasion in our family. The anticipation was high and we were not let down. We were first seated in a nice room, but was placed against the back wall. I, personally, do not liked to be crunched up against a wall and have to stare at it. So, I asked that we be moved and the gentleman waiting on us promptly granted our request. After a little "history" lesson regarding St. Elmo's, we were greeted with a very nice variety of breads and our drinks. My wife and her son had the famous shrimp and cocktail sauce...much to their delight! At our table, we had the regular rib-eye, a cowboy rib-eye, and the evening special dry-aged 12oz. NY strip. All three were absolutely amazing and the fresh fries were great!!!"

  • "St Elmo's is a must-see attraction in Indy. It has the history and dining experience that you will absolutely not find anywhere else in the city, and few places in the country. Their steaks are wet aged except for typically one dry-aged option so the filet is the very best option and they do it exceptionally well. You might be able to find a steak of similar quality other places in the city but you cannot beat the experience and the history of this place. It is perfect for a special date-night or business dinner with an amazing wine-list."

  • "Have lived in Indy for years and this was my 1st time here. Delicious!! Food and service (Rico, our Waiter has worked there for 25 years! That says something! We had the Devour Downtown special: Famous Shrimp Cocktail or Salad; filet, chicken, or salmon; creme brule (SP?), cheesecake, or chocolate cake. My friend chose shrimp and I chose salad and we split. Even the salad was phenomenal. Both had the filet that came with green beans and mashed potatoes. My ideal meal :) Dessert, one of us ordered the creme brule and the other chocolate cake. We couldn't finish it all! I will say that I will probably not get the creme brule again though. We both thought it was a little too custardy."

  • "Food and service was impeccable. Only negative was it being so hard to hear eachother during conservation. We were in the basement."

  • "In today's competitive restaurant market, this place continues to offer excellent food, service and ambience. It is expensive, but we felt we got the quality we paid for. The service was perfect. We were seated in the lower level which was great because the upper level was extremely noisy. I would request the lower level I. Future visits."

  • "We had good food and good service, though it was not very conducive to conversation. The room we were in was quite loud."

  • "Ordered steak medium and they served medium rare..but..most cooks will do that Shrimp cocktail to die for. Excellent service."

  • "Had reservatins and were seated immediatly in this busy place. Service outstanding, wine list is one of the very best in town and Not overpriced. Best Filet M., tasty mashed potatoes and crunchy green beens."

  • "Our first visit here for girls night out and we will definitely be back, the atmosphere and the people was just great. Scott was great from the time we sat down to when we left, the food OMG. Great place and great staff. Thank You!"

  • "We brought some out of town vendors from Boulder, CO to St. Elmo's. They enjoyed the local beers, and thought the food was fantastic."
    Dined on 8/25/2014
  • "Very good but still overpriced. One of the better steaks I've had, but I can pay less than half the price and get one almost as good. Also, the "world famous shrimp cocktail" may be famous but you can't enjoy the flavor because it's so spicy. I like spicy food and think it probably had a really good underlying flavor, but it was basically impossible to tell. If you've got the budget it's worth going here to try the steak and shrimp and to say you've been, but it's not worth going back because it's overpriced."

  • "We go to St. Elmo's about 4 times a year ( 13 years now) for special occasions. The steaks are always perfectly prepared, the service is impeccable and the wedge salad and bread pudding are fantastic. Your water glass never even gets low on ice and an empty plate disappears immediately. The best part of all of that is it all happens without a word or a bother. The whole staff knows what to do and the do it very we'll!! BRAVO!!"

  • "If you want the best steak, go to St. Elmos. The shrimp cocktail is a no brainer as well."
    Dined on 8/24/2014
  • "The steak I got was great. Mashed potatoes were good. The green beans were a little under cooked to be honest. Overall, the food was good, but the atmosphere just didn't do it for me. I figured it would be a little nicer. I guess I have pretty high standards, but we were stuck in a room that literally just had white walls. Nothing else. Also, I found it a little strange that there is no dress code. I guess I was picturing something somewhat similar, but obviously a step down from say the Seelbach in Louisville, Kentucky."

  • "As one of our Pre-game ritual the food was excellent! Be back next home game!"

  • "The biggest turn off was that the waiter made us feel like it was below him serve us. If I'm going to spend that price for food I do not want to be treated like less of a person while I do it! Furthermore, I asked for a rare steak and got medium rare. I understand that it is a hard steak to cook but isn't that why we are going there, for things to be perfect? Not impressed!!!"

  • "Steak was cooked to perfection. The creme brûlée was so light and fluffy better than some I've had in France! Delicious!! Recommend highly!"

  • "Went for Devour Downtown and was disappointed. Again. Shrimp cocktail was very good and chocolate cake was also tasty. But... This is allegedly a steakhouse. Filet arrived cold and dry. We had a similar experience there a couple of years ago but decided to give it another shot. Unfortunately we regret it now. Plenty of other steakhouses around that deserve our money. Will not be going back."

  • "The shrimp cocktail was the best part of the evening. Although the filet was very tender it was severely lacking flavor."

  • "My husband and I have been to St. Elmo several times and they never disappoint. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is top-notch!"

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to spend the night in downtown Indpls and take advantage of the Devour Indianapolis special menu. We had a wonderful waiter and an all around great meal. Pricing is a little high but, the waiter we had a delicious steak was well worth ever penny."

  • "We were seated immediately with our with our reservation. We did the Devour Downtown menu. it was the first visit for 2 of us. Our waiter was very professional, not overly friendly. 2 of us had the Filet and it was excellent. Cooked perfectly. The 3rd meal was Salmon, it was also very good. I had the Creme Brulee for dessert, it was great. The other two diners had cheesecake. It was also good. Two of us had the famous Shrimp Cocktail and it was very good. It was nice to be able to try St. Elmo's. I would not have been able to justify the cost otherwise. We took a picture to record our visit and post it on FB. When I got home and started to work on posting that picture, I noticed our waiter photo bombed the picture! Pretty funny."

  • "Disappointed that the shrimp come from Indonesia instead of USA. We were seated and then moved, because the hostess made an error in placing us in an area where a group would be. The service was not as stellar as I had expected. This was for an early reservation."

  • "4 of us dined,3 ordered med. well steaks, two came blood red. Not a bad place to eat, but I can get good food and service elsewhere for a lot less, and a quieter atmosphere. I would go again, but not because of the ambiance, the server was great"

  • "I was in Indy for work during restaurant week. St. Elmo lives up to its billing. The wait staff was very attentive, the space is beautiful, and of course the steak is amazing. I can't wait to go back during my next trip."

  • "This restaurant is amazing from the incredible world famous shrimp cocktail to the "melt in your mouth" filets. And the service is just as amazing! Our server, Andy. Made my friend's first visit to St.Elmo's fabulous. He treated her like a princess and was very professional, personable and attentive even with all the other tables he had. Top level service to match their top level food."

  • "St Elmo's consistently has the best service, best wine list, best steak (the filet melts in your mouth), best dessert (chocolate cake is double dark yummy), great martini. They know how to keep people talking about their place and how to keep the customer happy! I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great steak house that does it right every time."

  • "We visited St. Elmo during a business trip, coming off the recommendation from a friend. The atmosphere is polished, the staff is attentive, and the food is fantastic. Best filet I've had in a long time. And the waiter was great at explaining menu items and making suggestions based on our requests. I will definitely return over and over again."
