Diner Reviews
  • "An unexpected and lovely evening for me and my two daughters. Jeff and his staff assisted the three of us in crafting an outstanding dining experience from beginning to end. Hand crafted cocktails, excellent wines, and a three course dinner with two unique desserts. A quiet remarkable fun filled evening. Each of us looks forward to revisiting Saint Bernard's on our next ski vacation to Utah."

  • "We took our teenage sons for a night out to dinner after a hard day of skiing. It was so nice to take a short stroll from our condo in Powderhorn during sunset. The sear scallops and grits appetizer was very delicious and a big hit with the family. My son ordered the risotto and thought it was just "ok". I had the trout special and I really liked it. The vegetables were very tasty. Of the desserts we ordered, we liked the croissant bread pudding the best. It was amazing."

  • "The food and service were very good. The decor could use "an overhaul" to bring it to the same level as the food."

  • "The food is consistently great, the staff has stayed the same over the years and are friendly and professional. This was probably my 8th visit. Had a great steak, great salmon on a previous visit, great cheese plate, deserts have been fantastic. They have a very good wine list (pricey!). It is a very nice room with a word fire burning on one side, and is nicely decorated with a great view of the mountain."

  • "We ate at St. Bernard's for a special Valentine's Day Dinner. It was everything we hoped it would be. The food was great and the atmosphere/location was wonderful. Thank you for a great time."

  • "For such a small restaurant, the service was slow. I had to ask for my check multiple times and the staff walked right past our table many times without filling up the empty water glasses. Food was tasty but somewhat overpriced."

  • "Good food The gnocchi was to die for. The ginger carrot soup outstanding. The burger was made of wonderful stuff but I ordered a med rare and got a medium. This destroys the meaning of Kobe beef. The bread pudding was wonderful with the ice cream I ordered instead of whipped cream. The service was great as was the atmosphere. I would definitely go again. It's a hidden gem in big cottonwood."

  • "We had an amazing night with pure pampering throughout the evening. The food was fresh, interesting and innovative. I am still dreaming about the ginger pound cake."

  • "This hidden gem at Solitude Ski Resort is a 5 STAR culinary experience. The caring and not overly attentive service was perfect. There was a genuine interest from both Billy & Jeff to our every desire. The food - cocktails, golden beet salad, grilled foie gras, Kobe truffle burger, crab roll, accompanying wine and croissant/creme brulee dessert with Ariyanas Dulce 2007 wine - each item was beautifully & artistically presented & superbly cooked. And to top off all this perfection was the outdoor setting near the top of a mountain with beautiful landscaping, aspens and a fire pit for warmth. The entire experience was sublime; memorable enough to make us return again & again when we are in or anywhere near Solitude, Utah."

  • "The wife and I finally made it up to St. Bernard's. The drive to Solitude was well worth it. The lobster roll is to die for. We ordered the Halibut and the smoked pork chop. Unbelievable does not even come close. The taste was wonderful. The service was top notch. The waiter and manager took the time to discuss with us the menu, the brief history of the head chef and you name it they knew it. The price's was very reasonable and I just can't say enough about the food. You better hurry and get up there before to many people find out about it or eventually it will be hard to get a table. Loved it!!! Can you tell???? Wayne & Laurie Scott"

  • "Appears to be a new restaurant. The view of the ski resort is spectacular. Our waiter really made things fun. In fact he hooked us up with a wine tasting event that was spectacular. It is located at Solitude. Took a minute or two to find it."

  • "St. Bernard's belongs on any list of the best restaurants in Utah. The chef (formerly from one of our favorites, Pago) uses the freshest ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible as the basis for an amazing menu, creatively prepared and executed flawlessly. The service equals the food quality and the gorgeous mountain setting really completes the package. Everything we had was amazing but St. Bernard's take on the classic lobster roll was one of the best appetizer dishes I've had anywhere. If you're a serious foodie, or just want to experience one of Utah's best restaurants in one of Utah's most beautiful mountain settings, St. Bernard's is absolutely one to try!"

  • "We spend most of the winter at lovely Solitude Mt. Resort. We love St. Bernard's for a special evening out."

  • "The restaurant was beautiful and the views that much more. The food was delicious however overly priced if you ask me. Also, if you are going there during the winter season, note that you have to walk up a snowy slope (not steep and probably 50 yards) to get there, so dress appropriately as my pregnant wife in high heels wasnt too excited about the hike."

  • "Wagyu Ribeye a disappointment. Everything else was excellent. Service was attentive despite being quite busy. Honeycomb grill has just as nice a menu, food was excellent and more reasonably priced!"

  • "If you spend time in Solitude Utah this winter, you must have dinner at St. Bernard's, at the Inn at Solitude. It is intimate, with a big fireplace that all table can see, and a view of the mountain, even after dark that's pretty cool as you watch the snow cats grooming the slopes. For starters the salads were beautiful, fresh, healthy and delicious. I had quail with a huckleberry reduction and quinoa which was excellent, and my husband had something he really liked and I can't remember now!! The service was understated, and everything was on time, hot, delicious... Soft music in the background, no one rushing us out, great food, and of course after a bottle of wine the best part was walking down the hall to our room for the night."

  • "Amazing food and atmosphere. The menu was awesome. The place is a very small restaurant at Solitude ski resort. The best skiing in North America but very quiet . I hope they have enough business to stay open. Highly recommend it to anyone skiing or visiting Salt Lake City."

  • "The ambiance is lovely, and the staff are attentive and pleasant, but nothing we ordered was noteworthy or in any way worth the high prices. The chicken hash was a tasteless patty with a lot of tough kale in sauce around it. The Wagyu beef was a large steak with one or two tasty bites in the middle of a lot of tough and fatty inedible gristle. And that's all a shame, this was supposed to be a special dinner with our family."

  • "I had a 7:15 rservation and wasn't seated until close to 8:00. Menu selection was sparse. 1 salad to choose from? No bread served with dinner. Out of lemonade and out of gnocchi. Rib eye was extremely overcooked--I could barely cut it. 1 dessert to choose from. It was an ice cream dish and they served it on a piping hot plate, so the ice cream melted immediately. I would never go back here."

  • "We visited Bernards on Christmas night for our very special Christmas dinner....our first one of our American holiday. We planned a formal dinner as Xmas to us is very special so we were excited to be going to St Bernards. Firstly, we knew we were in a ski resort but the restaurant was freezing!!!!!!!!!! The food choices were awful especially for kids...and everything we ordered was over salted...and really, a carrot sauce with lamb cutlets...my lamb was like eating an old boot...in Australia and indeed New Zealand our lamb is tender... and there is no way it would served as tough as that...I couldn't believe it with all the formality and rubbish with on-line booking etc...it was truly the WORST dining experience we have had as a family.."

  • "We had dinner while staying at the Solitude ski resort. It is very convenient to the lodging and is an attractive place. We stayed at the end of the ski season so it was probably less crowded that it would have been otherwise. We had wine in the small bar outside the dining room - the wine list is fine, but nothing to write home about. We moved to the dining room for dinner. It was uncrowded and our service was very good. The dinner was very good as well. I had quail and duck breast that was flavorful and well prepared. My had scallops which were also nicely done. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend St. Bernard's."

  • "The only steak on the menu was a cheap flank steak. I ate it without plesaure. There was no prime rib, no filet minion. The dessert choice was ice cream or spice cake. I ordered spice cake which turned out to be 2 small muffins with whipped cream. French fries were thin and were served in a cup so you had to eat then with your hands. Conclusion: This was not fine dining. They should charge more and serve you good food."

  • "While the service and ambience were very good, the quality of the food was poor. Examples are portions were small, meat was not cooked properly (medium orders were cooked rare at best), and one main course was not even warm enough."

  • "The food is absolutely Tasteful and the portion sizes are just right. I loved our waiter and we had a seat right in front of the fire place. Our water glasses were always full."

  • "Just opened but well worth taking a chance on the cuisine. We enjoyed the scallops en buerreas well as the Wagyu beef and loved the bok Choy. We were aBle to get a reservation this Christmas eve but I'm sure that next year you'll have to book weeks in advance..if you're looking for some place that takes advantage of the beautiful scenery of Big Cottonwood canyon while dining on elegantly prepared and locally sourced foods, checkout St. Bernard's. For the quality of the food even the price is within reason."
