We enjoyed a birthday dinner for a
group of 12 people at St. Arnold's. The service was very attentive and handled our larger group well. The mussels and frites were fantastic and a nice change of pace. We probably should have taken their original suggestion and had our dinner down in the abbey but the upstairs was a lot of fun too. I definitely plan to go back for dinner again sometime."

Great food, great service, and a
lot of room downstairs... St. Arnold's is always a solid choice for a random Thursday night."

Four of us had a great "mussel"
experience at St. Armand"s. Delicious, and great choices in Belgian beer. Two concerns: 1) They charge for extra dipping bread. This seems like an annoying and unnecessary charge. 2) So noisy you really cannot converse at your table. (There is a downstairs Abbey bar that is quiet--too quiet--because nobody goes down there. Anyway, it is a neighborhood gem that is well worth the visit from time to time."

2 cold. No double door to keep the
30 degree weather outside. 2 loud. Music was WAY too loud for a restaurant/bar 2 little cheese on the French onion soup and the onions were't caramelized. Barely cooked 2 be honest Mussels were tasty but 2 small 2 inattentive was the service This was 2 bad because we were really looking forward to Brussels style mussels and frites. Actually the frites were tasty, but by Belgium standards the portion was 2 small."

St. Arnold's Mussel bar had great
food i.e. the mussel dish selection and a great beer selection. I liked to old style wooden table and benches. However, the dinning area can get a bit loud with large crowds. There is a separate bar area downstairs that I did not get try. Maybe next time!"

My third time at this small DC
chain, the Abbey - that is - the basement bar, proved full of character. Food menus are the same: it's about the mussels and the burger. Beer menu varies based on location, so be attentive if you are after one Belgian brew in particular. Service was a bit lax, perhaps ambivalent is more precise, which is fine when one is there to chill for the evening, but especially with the large assortment of unfamiliar beers, it would be better to interact with someone who wanted to share his knowledge and opinion. Overall, a swell spot. Downstairs is a quiet haunt to which I'll return"

We've been to St. Arnolds a few
times and never have a bad experience. Their happy hour is great, with the mussel buckets and beer. We usually get a few pots and share as a group. Service is always spot on, there to get you more pots, but not overbearing. And it's a neat corner in Cleveland Park, sort of hidden, though enough know about St. Arnolds to find it. Looking forward to my next meal there!"

I always enjoy this place. The
wait-staff is great, the foods nice, and the beer is wonderful."

The happy hour mussels special is
awesome. Recommended for an early dinner or office happy hour."

Great, friendly, welcoming place
to enjoy excellent mussels and beer. Don't forget to visit the Abbey downstairs for a drink before or after dinner or lunch."

I'm a recent transplant to DC from
New York, and St. Arnold's is quickly taking its place as my favorite neighborhood dinner spot. The mussels are consistently excellent, the service is always accommodating and friendly, and the beautiful high wood tables add an appropriate old-world ambiance to this local gem. I highly recommend the L’Alsacienne mussels; the bacon and cream sauce are a perfect antidote to the winter chill. Though it can get a bit noisy during prime dinner hours, the food is well worth it."
Dined on 1/20/2014
Food and service were excellent
but noise level was VERY LOUD, even at an hour when few people were in the restaurant, and even in the basement (which was relatively less loud than upstairs). If you don't care about the noise level, I highly recommend St. Arnold's Mussel Bar. If you care, or if you have a hearing problem, you might want to find somewhere else to dine."

The building is unassuming from
the outside, but the food and ambiance are very authentically Belgian. The mussels menu is long and everything looked fabulous. We got three different kinds and they were all delicious. The beer list is short but is all quality Belgian beers on tap. They even use the correct glasses. The wait staff was very nice. The restaurant is EXTREMELY loud so it's fun for going out with friends but don't expect to have any intimate conversations."

The thing that made St. Arnolds
work so well for us was the location & laid back atmosphere. We took metro down to meet with our adult kids and had an easy walk to the restaurant and planned to head over to the zoo afterwards for the holiday ZOOLIGHTS. St. Arnolds is casual and comfortable and the waitstaff were all pleasant. The mussels were great as were those frites with that amazing garlic aioli. The beet & orange salad on arugula & fennel was very fresh and tasty. Others commented that the burger and the wings were just okay. Great beer selection too. We'd return more for the location and comfortable setting than anything else ... but if you like mussels with different seasonings, give this place a try!"
Dined on 12/15/2013
Great food (as usual), but server
didn't check on us only once for water refill ALL night (we had tea)."
Dined on 12/6/2013
Happy and intimate ambiance with
the lighting upstairs, friendly waitstaff, and excellent food. Beer selection is interesting and delicious, and you absolutely cannot beat the happy hour deal on mussels & frites. A new favorite spot, I will definitely be back."

$10 mussel happy hour is the best
only minis is very noisy"

We looooved St. Arnold's & will
definitely be back! The mussels were AWESOME - generous portions and the broth is AMAZING! They have a solid Belgian beer list and a laid back atmosphere. It's also less than a block away from the Uptown theatre and Cleveland Park Metro stop. Perfect date night spot!"

We love coming to ST. Arnolds for
all times of the week. We often come by on the weekend before grabbing a movie. The front of house is extremely kind and professional on the phone and in person. Its great all the time but you can't beat the happy hour mussels for $10. All the mussels on the menu are so great, fresh and hot every time!! Food is always fast and delicious. Great spot to take 3 or 4 people for a few beers and apps. But if you drive parking is always difficult."
Dined on 11/15/2013
On the restaurant web site written
that there are mussels for 10$ from 9pm to 11pm, so we went when was one of those days and after all dinner waitress told us that happy hour is valid only on the basement!!! That was not written anywhere! Its not question of 10$ , but stop thinking that your customers are idiots!Never come back again only because of service"

Amazing mussels (must try mussels
in vodka sauce)!!"
Dined on 10/29/2013
Monday reduced price ($10 instead
of $18) mussels with frites and bread on the side was a good deal. Upstairs was crowded and noisy so the hostess took us to the basement, which was low key and never too loud. Mussels (Thai curry and St. Arnold's) were tasty although not as fat as some other places."
Dined on 10/15/2013
I love going to St. Arnold's for
mussels! I always go with friends and we choose different flavors to share. This time, we shared Thai Basil, Scampi, and Paella-- such great flavors! The service is always top of the line and the food is delicious!"
Dined on 10/1/2013
I have nothing negative to say
about St. Arnold's. It's one of my favorite places in DC -- good service, better food. Sometimes it can take longer than usual for food to come out, but the servers usually give you a heads up. I think Iman (sp?) at the door is fantastic. She always greets me with a smile and hug. Plus, 1/2 off wine nights! And 1/2 off mussel pots!"
Dined on 7/17/2013
Note that most of the tables are
shared, so you'll have to be ok with sitting next to strangers and talking over their conversations. But, the food and beer are worth it!"
Dined on 9/17/2013
Great place great food. Monday is
half price mussels and is amazing."
Dined on 9/17/2013
Really enjoyed the delicious
mussels with frites and terrific selection of Belgian beer, but ultimately driven away by the blaring music and sports tv bar scene which made dinner conversation basically impossible."
Dined on 9/16/2013
I cannot say enough about how
great every thing was at St. Arnolds. The mussels were fantastic and at the happy hour prices, they cannot be beat! The staff was great. The beer was plentiful. We will return."
Dined on 9/14/2013
It's one off the best places in
the city for mussels and fries...delicious."
Dined on 9/10/2013
I have been to St. Arnolds several
times. Each time the mussels were plump and tasty. On this visit the mussels were small and nearly tasteless no matter what the preparation. Recommend that the proprietors examine their mussel purveyors and recheck their preparation recipes. I doubt that we will return."
Dined on 9/7/2013
Best mussels around town! Friendly
service and great beer... Would recommend this place to the President!"
Dined on 8/31/2013
We were looking for a light dinner
before a movie at the Uptown. St. Arnold delivered more. The streetside bistro reminds me of similar places in Amsterdam and Brussels -- not fancy, but really good at what they do. Really good. We went at happy hour when mussel pots were only $10, including frites and bread. Mussels St. Arnold's were spectacular! The Mussels Paella were good, but so far from authentic paella that the name really needs to be changed. Frites are fresh and tasty. The bread left lots to be desired. When your mussel broths are as good as St. Arnold's, they beg for a better quality (and quantity) of bread. If you're in to beer, the shop's beer menu is longer than it's food menu. Wine & spirits available."
Dined on 8/22/2013
Great service and food and it's
reasonably priced. love this spot"
Dined on 8/10/2013
Perfect for a Belgium experience
in the US! Delicious mussels. We went with the classics, beer and wine based sauces, but they have all sorts of weird ones too. We wanted traditional, and they did it well. Delicious Belgium beer that won over even a beer hater. Yum! The only thing I didn't like was the communal tables that don't have backs on their chairs--I have a lot of back issues. However, I requested a table with real chairs and they were very accommodating. Wonderful night all around!"
Dined on 8/11/2013
We had mussels and frites, and
they were very good, and fairly reasonably priced. The restaurant is close to my home, so I would have liked to make it a favorite. However, it is very much a 20 something loud bar like atmosphere, and the music blasts so it is extremely difficult to have a conversation. They said they would lower it a bit, but it never did seem to go lower so communicating required shouting. When i was a 20 something, I probably wouldn't have minded the noise level, but at my current age a calmer quieter environment for a dinner out works better."
Dined on 8/4/2013
We had a terrific time at St.
Arnolds. It's a vibrant, noisy scene with a seemingly endless list of beer options and delicious fries to go with perfectly prepared mussels. Loads of fun."
Dined on 7/24/2013
A great selection of outstanding
Belgium beers on tap. Mussels were big and delicious. Highly recommended for summer lunch or dinner"
Dined on 7/21/2013
Food: This is were you can get
some excellent mussels. They have a huge assortment of mussel pots, which makes it really hard to choose. We ordered mussels only. Excellent flavor and the paella pot came with chicken, seafood and rice inside as well. As a side, you get bread and frites. The frites are well seasoned and taste great. Beer: They have a decent on tap list, maybe 15-20 beers. If you enjoy beer, from IPA's to Tripels, you will find something to drink here Other stuff: The seating is mixed between bar stool high tables, regular low tables and a short bar area. The servers are very nice and come by often to refill water or ask for your next beer. Overall: If you like mussels and good beer, you owe it to yourself to stop in."
Dined on 7/21/2013
This place has every variety of
mussels you can imagine. It is a great fun littel neighborhood hang-out. Very casual dess and a comfortable place you can hang out, drinking beer and sampling great flavor combinations of mussels entrees. Loved it!!!"
Dined on 4/8/2013
This is our third trip here, and
as long as you expect it to be a bar with great food, you will love it. It's not a fancy restaurant, but the beer selection is huge, and the mussels and mussel-related Belgian food is stellar. We'll keep coming back!"
