The service was awesome and the
mussels are amazing! They had a great beer list too!"

Nearly raucous by 7:00 p.m.;
reservations recommended. A wide variety of European beers on-tap, at prices reminding you they are imported. Seemingly authentic food items; in hearty portions. Servers seem to want to be attentive most of the time. Everyone has their own tastes; many of the reviews rave about this beer or another--try something in a .3L serving, or, ask for a sample if you're completely unsure. The Classic White Wine Mussels remind me much of that same dish served in Brussels. Probably it was the atmosphere of Brussels which makes me think the Euro-mussels tasted better. My dining partner is a fan of the house-made meatloaf. He observes it's a pity that such a hearty dish is so under-appreciated by food snobs."

Always great food. Besides the
mussels, the wings and fries are terrific, too."

Fun place to go, Lively and
friendly. Staff polite and speedy even though newbies. Mussels in more recipes than I have ever seen. Classic version is solid and a decent size serving. Will go back for sure."

Great mussels. Fabulous fries.
Great beers. Good value at Happy Hour and specials. Otherwise, it does get pricy if u like beer. St. Arnolds is absolutely worth a visit."

Food & beer were good - service
was terrible. One person at our table didn't get their food until everyone else had finished eating. Requested items (refills, utensils, napkins, etc) forgotten about. They need a waiter downstairs rather than relying on bartender to wait on food customers."

The occasion was an 80th birthday
(for a very cool lady who has lived in the neighborhood all her life). A really wonderful time was had by all. Staff were absolutely amazing - incredibly attentive and accommodating. And ohhhh those St Arnold's mussels... The only complaint was - how come it has taken her so long to find it?"

We enjoyed a birthday dinner for a
group of 12 people at St. Arnold's. The service was very attentive and handled our larger group well. The mussels and frites were fantastic and a nice change of pace. We probably should have taken their original suggestion and had our dinner down in the abbey but the upstairs was a lot of fun too. I definitely plan to go back for dinner again sometime."

Great food, great service, and a
lot of room downstairs... St. Arnold's is always a solid choice for a random Thursday night."

Four of us had a great "mussel"
experience at St. Armand"s. Delicious, and great choices in Belgian beer. Two concerns: 1) They charge for extra dipping bread. This seems like an annoying and unnecessary charge. 2) So noisy you really cannot converse at your table. (There is a downstairs Abbey bar that is quiet--too quiet--because nobody goes down there. Anyway, it is a neighborhood gem that is well worth the visit from time to time."

2 cold. No double door to keep the
30 degree weather outside. 2 loud. Music was WAY too loud for a restaurant/bar 2 little cheese on the French onion soup and the onions were't caramelized. Barely cooked 2 be honest Mussels were tasty but 2 small 2 inattentive was the service This was 2 bad because we were really looking forward to Brussels style mussels and frites. Actually the frites were tasty, but by Belgium standards the portion was 2 small."

St. Arnold's Mussel bar had great
food i.e. the mussel dish selection and a great beer selection. I liked to old style wooden table and benches. However, the dinning area can get a bit loud with large crowds. There is a separate bar area downstairs that I did not get try. Maybe next time!"

My third time at this small DC
chain, the Abbey - that is - the basement bar, proved full of character. Food menus are the same: it's about the mussels and the burger. Beer menu varies based on location, so be attentive if you are after one Belgian brew in particular. Service was a bit lax, perhaps ambivalent is more precise, which is fine when one is there to chill for the evening, but especially with the large assortment of unfamiliar beers, it would be better to interact with someone who wanted to share his knowledge and opinion. Overall, a swell spot. Downstairs is a quiet haunt to which I'll return"

We've been to St. Arnolds a few
times and never have a bad experience. Their happy hour is great, with the mussel buckets and beer. We usually get a few pots and share as a group. Service is always spot on, there to get you more pots, but not overbearing. And it's a neat corner in Cleveland Park, sort of hidden, though enough know about St. Arnolds to find it. Looking forward to my next meal there!"

I always enjoy this place. The
wait-staff is great, the foods nice, and the beer is wonderful."

The happy hour mussels special is
awesome. Recommended for an early dinner or office happy hour."

Great, friendly, welcoming place
to enjoy excellent mussels and beer. Don't forget to visit the Abbey downstairs for a drink before or after dinner or lunch."

I'm a recent transplant to DC from
New York, and St. Arnold's is quickly taking its place as my favorite neighborhood dinner spot. The mussels are consistently excellent, the service is always accommodating and friendly, and the beautiful high wood tables add an appropriate old-world ambiance to this local gem. I highly recommend the L’Alsacienne mussels; the bacon and cream sauce are a perfect antidote to the winter chill. Though it can get a bit noisy during prime dinner hours, the food is well worth it."

Food and service were excellent
but noise level was VERY LOUD, even at an hour when few people were in the restaurant, and even in the basement (which was relatively less loud than upstairs). If you don't care about the noise level, I highly recommend St. Arnold's Mussel Bar. If you care, or if you have a hearing problem, you might want to find somewhere else to dine."

The building is unassuming from
the outside, but the food and ambiance are very authentically Belgian. The mussels menu is long and everything looked fabulous. We got three different kinds and they were all delicious. The beer list is short but is all quality Belgian beers on tap. They even use the correct glasses. The wait staff was very nice. The restaurant is EXTREMELY loud so it's fun for going out with friends but don't expect to have any intimate conversations."

The thing that made St. Arnolds
work so well for us was the location & laid back atmosphere. We took metro down to meet with our adult kids and had an easy walk to the restaurant and planned to head over to the zoo afterwards for the holiday ZOOLIGHTS. St. Arnolds is casual and comfortable and the waitstaff were all pleasant. The mussels were great as were those frites with that amazing garlic aioli. The beet & orange salad on arugula & fennel was very fresh and tasty. Others commented that the burger and the wings were just okay. Great beer selection too. We'd return more for the location and comfortable setting than anything else ... but if you like mussels with different seasonings, give this place a try!"

Great food (as usual), but server
didn't check on us only once for water refill ALL night (we had tea)."
Dined on 12/6/2013
Happy and intimate ambiance with
the lighting upstairs, friendly waitstaff, and excellent food. Beer selection is interesting and delicious, and you absolutely cannot beat the happy hour deal on mussels & frites. A new favorite spot, I will definitely be back."

$10 mussel happy hour is the best
only minis is very noisy"

We looooved St. Arnold's & will
definitely be back! The mussels were AWESOME - generous portions and the broth is AMAZING! They have a solid Belgian beer list and a laid back atmosphere. It's also less than a block away from the Uptown theatre and Cleveland Park Metro stop. Perfect date night spot!"

We love coming to ST. Arnolds for
all times of the week. We often come by on the weekend before grabbing a movie. The front of house is extremely kind and professional on the phone and in person. Its great all the time but you can't beat the happy hour mussels for $10. All the mussels on the menu are so great, fresh and hot every time!! Food is always fast and delicious. Great spot to take 3 or 4 people for a few beers and apps. But if you drive parking is always difficult."
Dined on 11/15/2013
On the restaurant web site written
that there are mussels for 10$ from 9pm to 11pm, so we went when was one of those days and after all dinner waitress told us that happy hour is valid only on the basement!!! That was not written anywhere! Its not question of 10$ , but stop thinking that your customers are idiots!Never come back again only because of service"

Amazing mussels (must try mussels
in vodka sauce)!!"
Dined on 10/28/2013
Monday reduced price ($10 instead
of $18) mussels with frites and bread on the side was a good deal. Upstairs was crowded and noisy so the hostess took us to the basement, which was low key and never too loud. Mussels (Thai curry and St. Arnold's) were tasty although not as fat as some other places."
Dined on 10/14/2013
I have been to St. Arnolds several
times. Each time the mussels were plump and tasty. On this visit the mussels were small and nearly tasteless no matter what the preparation. Recommend that the proprietors examine their mussel purveyors and recheck their preparation recipes. I doubt that we will return."
