Diner Reviews
  • "The food was quite good, but the portion of grilled striped bass I was served (as a main course) was very small. Very tasty, but hardly a reasonable dinner portion. My companions' portions were larger and they had no complaints. I guess I ordered the wrong item The only other sour note was that my wife was charged for soup even though that was included in the price fixed dinner she chose. The waiter corrected the "mistake" quickly, but it left me wondering."

  • "I selected this restaurant because of the whisky list. I wasn't disappointed by the selection even though a few choices weren't available. The food was fine but nothing about which to write home. While the waitresses were very accommodating, the kitchen did not send the proper side orders. All in all there are better whisky bars and much better food places, but if you want theater district and great whisky, this restaurant is high on the list."

  • "Pre-theatre, east of Broadway, is not always easy and is somehow always expensive. St. Andrews wasn't inexpensive, but it was a good value for the food provided: tasty and plentiful. Our appetizer was a little late to arrive due to a large party in the next room, and the server and host both came over to assure us it was on our way and that we'd be out in plenty of time for our 7:30 curtain. Impressed!"

  • "The food was excellent and the service was friendly and helpful. We were a party of four and all of our meals were excellent. The deserts were average but I highly recommend the simple but delicious cookies and milk."

  • "My girlfriend and I chose this restaurant given it's proximity to a theatre and open table reviews. We both ordered the filet mignon. The beef, while cooked perfectly to order, was flavorless. The red wine reduction sauce was equally as bland. The blue cheese butter was tasty though overpowering given the lack of flavors in the beef and sauce. The potato cake was good. Service was very good; we were one of a few tables occupied given the early dining time of 5:30."

  • "I am in the service industry, and never in my life, while dining all over the world in many many restaurants, had the worst service ever. It was the first time we left before desert and coffee and did not leave a tip. I have no more words to say, but simply the worst restaurant experience I've ever had in so many ways, just stormed out leaving cash with exact change, hopefully the staff will receive better training in customers service. I'm embarrassed to not have left any gratuity, but the server certainly needed to be taught a lesson, as does the restaurant! Needless to say, we will never be going there again, and continue to post about our horrible experience!"

  • "NYC!! Food was good, all seven of us liked what we ordered off of the Grill Menu."

  • "Wasn't as impressed as the reviews that I had read before going there. Too many other restaurants on that street (from 6th-10th) to choose from for next time."

  • "We have eaten at St. Andrews many times over the past few years. This visit was the worst. The service was poor. Our steaks were not served correctly, the ribeye was given to the wrong person and the rare strip steak was served to the person who ordered it medium. When the bus boy cleared the table, he took the steak knives that had been placed for those who ordered steak and the forks. When new silverware was requested, it took so long our food got cold plus the side dishes of creamed spinach and the mushrooms did not come until we asked to speak with the manager. Fortunately, once the manager came, the service greatly improved but the evening was still ruined."

  • "My husband found this great restaurant while looking at reviews for restaurants in the Theater District of NYC. He liked the online menu so he took me on my birthday. What a great restaurant... and the food was to die for! The wine selection was extensive, and the single malt scotch selection would have any connoisseur smiling. The wait staff was knowledgeable about both the menu and drink listings. They were also very friendly. Prices were reasonable for NYC. We will definitely be back to visit this lovely spot."

  • "This is not the restaurant for you unless you are from out of town and have no idea of anywhere else to go. It is centrally located so if you're going to the theater and need something to eat before this place would work. Don't plan to linger but just eat and go!"

  • "I always find a food item that is different, that is presented well, and that is tasty."

  • "Consistently amazing. One of my absolute favorites. Everyone needs to give this place a try!"

  • "I have been going to St Andrews for years. It is one of my favorite resturtants. It always feels like home and it is something different."

  • "Hostess treats you like returning family! Food always tasty, great pour of guinness and friendly servers makes this a must stop. Arrived with the early theatre crowd, so the place was bustling. Got a great spot with our open table reservation. Even able to follow world cup action!"

  • "My wife's Trout stuffed with Crab was amazingly delicious and Boneless! My Haggis dish was attractive (served as 3 layers) but there was too little Haggis & Neeps and too much Tatties (I'm not big on mashed potatoes). My daughter's Horseradish encrusted Salmon was delicious & well prepared, but she could Not taste any horseradish (which she loves). The Apple Crisp was delicious & the Cinnamon Ice Cream on top was even better. The Cranachan was just right (light and not too sweet). The Very Best, though, was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Fantastic! The Whiskey Menu is also amazing."

  • "I loved the sole special, my husband loved the chicken, and my kids loved the pizza. Portions were very big, especially the kids' pizzas! Very loud bar atmosphere downstairs, but quieter for dinner upstairs."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "This is a lovely, comfortable, not too loud restaurant, right off Times Square. The service was excellent and perfectly paced for a pre-theater dinner. The food was very good. We tried the haggis, which was surprisingly tasty, and the fried oyster appetizer, which was excellent. The portions were large and we all had the prix-fixe theater dinner which tasted good and was a good value for the price. There is an extensive beer list and the Scotch based cocktails were delicious and good for Scotch novices. In an area where restaurants can be cramped and overly loud, not to mention overly priced, this is a great place."

  • "Overall great food and a fun second floor patio, with a nice view of the street. I recommend coming here if you feel like having a little nicer dinner while near Times Square"
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "Waitress was attentive. Menu was varied and attractively presented. It's a find in the theatre district."

  • "Greatest scotch list at a pub, bar or restaurant I've ever seen!"
    Dined on 6/2/2014
  • "I made reservation after seeing the extensive Scotch list and menu. How is it that our waitress has worked there for over a year and knows nothing about the Scotch? I am not sure she can spell the word. Then, while finding help to get information completely forgets the wine for my wife. the food was terrific and the service could have been more coordinated so that 3 people would know what had been asked and done and what had been forgotten. I emailed the restaurant weeks in advance to let them know it was our anniversary and they emailed that they would write Happy Anniversary on the dessert plates...guess what? Not a mention during the entire dinner, nothing on the plate. So disappointed!"

  • "Generous portions; good food; friendly staff; conscientious of time to get us out on time to make our show; although they have an extensive beer list the martini's are very good..."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "Both the food and service were very good, and I loved that the waiters wear kilts! Although, it's definitely a Scottish experience with a heavy emphasis on through a New York view!!"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "We had a delicious and plentiful meal, served in a leisurely fashion, but getting us to the theater in time."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "Loved the relaxed, club feel with a different plaid on each chair, white table cloths and kilts on friendly waitresses-well trained staff-large, open window panels on a perfect evening. Husband said Scottish Ale best he's ever had. Hagis and Salmon presentations were both colorful and delicious though ask them to make salmon on the rare side-it was a bit dry. Both had tasty sauces. Mahi mahi was great. Two prix fixe options and grilled plus 2 sides and a sauce in addition to a la carte. Fun dinner experience and lovely reminder of our visit to Scotland. We will go back with friends!"

  • "The atmosphere is fun and laid back. We ordered off the Pre-theater menu. The food was good. Both steaks came out cooked to the proper temps. My salmon was a little dry and over cooked, but tasted fine, and the artichoke raviolis on the plate were very good. The Scotch list amazing and the bar tender left his post to come up and make recommendations, which were spot on. He was very friendly and knowledgable! Service was a little slow, but very friendly. I suggest giving extra time before a show so you don't feel rushed. "

  • "They've successfully shifted from a true Scottish Pub comfortable experience, to the Times Square tourist and after work corporate place. There are times when they're less busy and it still has its old charm.....but it's just not what it used to be. However, the food is quite good, and there are still some exceptional servers to be experienced. Also, if you want Scottish fare, or modern fine dining cuisine in such a setting, the cloth and crystal approach in their upstairs dining area will probably be right up your alley."

  • "This restaurant as selcted y accident. Normallyweselec restaurantsin close proxmity to the theater we're visiting that day. We mstook thetheater street and selected St.Andrew sticty on it's proximity and the on-line menu wich looked intriguing. It was a very pleast surprise to find out he food was delicious, the service friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We would definitely return to St.Andrews on another visit. "

  • "Great prefix menu with nice choices, very good food and variety of beer and cocktails . Lots of good food choices and lots of fish and seafood on the menu. Moderate pricing. Definitely will come back"

  • "We made a reservation at St. Andrews because of its proximity to the theater district. due to the vagaries of the MTA, I arrived almost a half hour late. not to worry, the staff seated us, and served us our drinks, dinner and dessert with plenty of time to get to curtain, without rushing us at all. The food was just fine - I thought there might be more of an emphasis on meat, but both my husband and i had seafood which was very well prepared. "

  • "This is a return visit. I plan to go once again. THE MENU IS VARIED AND DIFFERENT."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "When we arrived we were not greeted in the usual friendly way. We were not asked were we wanted to seat. We go to this restaurant a lot. The service was slow and when asked for the check it took along time to come. Reservations have to be honored. People who return expect the same level of service everytime they come."

  • "Food was fantastic, I had the chicken and my firend had the filet mignon. The bar area downstairs was very loud so we were happy to be seated upstairs which was quiet. "
    Dined on 4/25/2014
  • "Buffalo calamari appetizer was really good. My tuna entree was excellent. My wife ordered striped bass -- it wasn't what she had expected, but she said it was very good. The chocolate lava cake was nothing special & overpriced. The service was a bit overburdened, so they weren't very attentive -- we had to ask for lemon several times, then for Tabasco -- they never checked to refill our water, or to ask if we needed anything, like bread. However, they did a good job of getting us out in time for our early curtain. All-in-all a good restaurant, but a bit too pricey."

  • "Good for pre-theater. Remember to ask for the bar menu - smaller items."
    Dined on 4/22/2014
  • "St. Andrew's has a great pre-fix...all you can drink draught beer and wine, appetizer, entree, and dessert. BUT make sure you tell them you are doing the pre-fix right away. Otherwise they will charge you for all the beer you have prior to saying you are doing the pre-fix."

  • "Order medium filet mignon. Get well done. Was at your rest 2 years ago. Had A good exp from that visit. But get A bad exp this time. Will never visit again"
