Was looking for a "pub" type restaurant for lunch before a show. Was so nice to find this Scottish themed restaurant. Had the haggis starter which was very good and chicken pot pie - also excellent. It is a nice looking place and the service was terrific. I will definitely return here again.

I've eaten at St. Andrews many times, but not normally alone. This time I was basically ignored. I was going to the theatre, eating early when it wasn't real busy. Told the waiter I was having an entree and dessert, He came back to the table a couple times to ask how I was doing, but never offered me a second drink. After I'd waited to have my plate cleared, I waited another ten minutes or so before he came back to the table. By then, it was too late for me to have dessert and I told him so. He seemed insulted and brought me my check. He had no problem attending to other tables, just me, by myself in the corner.

We returned to St. Andrews for lunch because our first time was great! This time we tried the shrimp club which was fresh and oh so tasty. My sister said that her fish & chips were the best she had ever had. This time we sat upstairs..I was looking for the kilted waiters , but could fine none. Our Irish waiter was quite charming, but had not purchased his yet! We will be returning again to St. Andrews. Friendly staff, great food and reasonable prices.. What a great place for lunch before a show!!

Hadn't been to St. Andrews in years. Needed a place for lunch before a Wed. matinee and saw it listed on Open Table. It was a delightful surprise, indeed! Very attractive rooms upstairs. The food is excellent and the waitstaff professional and pleasant. This is a keeper!

We had empty glasses and plates piled up throughout the meal, but then the wait staff kept trying to take dessert plates and coffee cups while still obviously being enjoyed. We still had a nice time and good meal with our out-of-town guests- in town for shows and tourist attractions - but as New Yorkers, we would not return on a regular night unless trying to keep a Scottish theme. They've got that down perfectly!

We visited on a Sunday night. Our hostess was not cheerful, but she gave us a wonderful table by the window upstairs. The friendly servers wore kilts. I had the pre-fixe menu with a salad (a bit soggy, and the creamy dressing was definitely not raspberry vinaigrette as billed on the menu, but it was tasty) and the NY Strip, which was chewy but juicy and perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were great. My companion had the simply grilled salmon with lemon sauce, and she loved it. Dessert was excellent; I had the sorbet, and she had the mini ice cream sandwiches, which were made with delicious little shortbread cookies. Price was quite reasonable for New York.

What a great find! The St. Andrews offered a lively neighborhood bar scene downstairs and a quiet place to dine upstairs. Table cloths, great food and excellent service made this eatery a place I will definitely return to in the future. The calamari was an excellent appetizer on the prix fix menu which was followed by a beautiful rib eye steak cooked to order and included all the wine I could drink. My husband had the Tuna steak which was perfectly cooked and a couple of beers from their expansive beverage list. He ate all of my garlic mashed potatoes which were delicious and we shared the cheese and fruit plate which came with my dinner. The meal with drinks was approximately $75.00. What a deal! It was perfect!

Met friends for 8pm dinner on a Saturday night. Restaurant was very quiet after pre-theater crowd left. For some reason they put all the diners in the very front on the top floor. Allowed us to order off the Prix-fix pre-theater menu which was very nice. Great beer selection also. Food was fine. For a mid-priced steak place in the heart of the city we all got our monies worth. I would return again.

When the first guest arrived was told: no reservation. Second guest arrived, she was shown to a table. Third guest arrived, shown to a DIFFERENT table, not informed that some guests had already arrived. Fourth guest arrived, (me), shown to the table of the second guest. Guest #1 sat at the bar from 4:30 until 5:15, when she was seen by guest # 3, and discovered that two of us were already seated at another table. Guest # 2 had to interrupt a conversation between two women at the reception podium to get them to receive her. When we informed management of this goat rodeo, we were offered a round of drinks and since we didn't want another round, they credited our first round. So, the restaurant did recognize their error. But . . .

It's nice to go to a place where you can relax and have good food. The upstairs dining room is quiet and they have done their best to make it Scotland. The food is plentiful and good. The grilled shrimp and scallops were very good as was the ribs which was a large portion. It is a great location for the theater or Radio City Music Hall with prices that are not over the top.

We were initially hesitant due to a few bad reviews on service, but there were enough good reviews to decide to go. Our service was excellent. We were on the 2nd floor at the window which I liked. The menu is pure Scottish. The food was pretty good and they had a pre-fixed menu, one with unlimited wine & beer, another without, which was a terrific deal. Although the chicken soup was a little bland but everything else was really good. Our steaks were cooked as ordered, our creamed spinach was delicious. My husband mentioned for me to choose the dessert since it was my birthday, and without being asked, they came with a candle singing happy birthday. The chocolate bundt cake dessert was absolutely scrumptious. I would go back again.

The food was quite good, but the portion of grilled striped bass I was served (as a main course) was very small. Very tasty, but hardly a reasonable dinner portion. My companions' portions were larger and they had no complaints. I guess I ordered the wrong item The only other sour note was that my wife was charged for soup even though that was included in the price fixed dinner she chose. The waiter corrected the "mistake" quickly, but it left me wondering.

I selected this restaurant because of the whisky list. I wasn't disappointed by the selection even though a few choices weren't available. The food was fine but nothing about which to write home. While the waitresses were very accommodating, the kitchen did not send the proper side orders. All in all there are better whisky bars and much better food places, but if you want theater district and great whisky, this restaurant is high on the list.

Pre-theatre, east of Broadway, is not always easy and is somehow always expensive. St. Andrews wasn't inexpensive, but it was a good value for the food provided: tasty and plentiful. Our appetizer was a little late to arrive due to a large party in the next room, and the server and host both came over to assure us it was on our way and that we'd be out in plenty of time for our 7:30 curtain. Impressed!

My girlfriend and I chose this restaurant given it's proximity to a theatre and open table reviews. We both ordered the filet mignon. The beef, while cooked perfectly to order, was flavorless. The red wine reduction sauce was equally as bland. The blue cheese butter was tasty though overpowering given the lack of flavors in the beef and sauce. The potato cake was good. Service was very good; we were one of a few tables occupied given the early dining time of 5:30.

I am in the service industry, and never in my life, while dining all over the world in many many restaurants, had the worst service ever. It was the first time we left before desert and coffee and did not leave a tip. I have no more words to say, but simply the worst restaurant experience I've ever had in so many ways, just stormed out leaving cash with exact change, hopefully the staff will receive better training in customers service. I'm embarrassed to not have left any gratuity, but the server certainly needed to be taught a lesson, as does the restaurant! Needless to say, we will never be going there again, and continue to post about our horrible experience!

We have eaten at St. Andrews many times over the past few years. This visit was the worst. The service was poor. Our steaks were not served correctly, the ribeye was given to the wrong person and the rare strip steak was served to the person who ordered it medium. When the bus boy cleared the table, he took the steak knives that had been placed for those who ordered steak and the forks. When new silverware was requested, it took so long our food got cold plus the side dishes of creamed spinach and the mushrooms did not come until we asked to speak with the manager. Fortunately, once the manager came, the service greatly improved but the evening was still ruined.

My husband found this great restaurant while looking at reviews for restaurants in the Theater District of NYC. He liked the online menu so he took me on my birthday. What a great restaurant... and the food was to die for! The wine selection was extensive, and the single malt scotch selection would have any connoisseur smiling. The wait staff was knowledgeable about both the menu and drink listings. They were also very friendly. Prices were reasonable for NYC. We will definitely be back to visit this lovely spot.
