Diner Reviews
  • "it's my second time there. while i loved it for the first time, this time it was a disappointment. the food was average. my cold soup felt more like salad dressing and the french fries accompanied to the burger were cold! the service was slow and they forgot things (and the restaurant was not full). overall a mediocre experience. second time there, but won't come back."

  • "Recently Square 1682 downsized. That was probably a good decision given that the bigger space wasn't full very often. But it also changed the place. With the smaller size, the wait staff seems to be less attentive. The good news is the food is still a terrific blend of original flavors with hot food served hot and cold food served cold. Food excellent, service acceptable."

  • "I understand what they're aiming for at Square 1682, but they don't quite get there. The food was very good and very inventive, but the staff was distracted. Maybe because they television above the bar is loud and obnoxious? Maybe because the staff is to thin for the room? I'm not sure. I was expecting the whole farm to table experience. That's what I had been told I would get. Our waitress confessed that she wasn't really certain that the local chickens actually tasted better. We ordered a bottle of not inexpensive white wine, which was brought to the table room temperature and was off."

  • "Square 1682 was easy to find and park close to for Sunday Brunch in Center City Philadelphia. The menu was diverse and had enough gluten free selections to satisfy those who are sensitive including my daughter. We also had my 11 month old grand daughter, the service team was especially sensitive to our needs in that respect. The food was tasty and the servings and served quickly - the restaurant was not busy or crowded. There was outdoor seating which looked appealing although we did not take advantage of it. We enjoyed our meal and would consider returning."

  • "Did a smpling of apps and drinks and enjoyed both the taste and timliness of the delivered items. A bit pricey for every night but good for especial occasion and business conversations. Bathroom location needs work...you have to go to another floor."

  • "When you look at the menu you see it's expensive and even though the food was very good, it's way overpriced. But the Salmon I had was excellent. the salad was good as well. great variety of alcohol choices. The waitress was very nice but spoke so quiet that we couldn't hear her and needed her to repeat several times what she's saying. we also needed to wait several time for the check. but in general, food came fast. water glasses were always full. good experience that would have been better if it was cheaper. and last thing: why the restrooms are at the 2nd floor of the hotel. a long journey and i think it's disrespectful to the costumers at the restaurant and affect the overall service experience."

  • "We met friends at Square 1682 and had a great time. All 5 of us enjoyed our meals. The Salmon was great. The corn and potato soup of the day was fantastic. My wife has now had lamb at Square made 3 different ways and all have been great. The service once again was top notch all around!"

  • "Calamari was delicious. Garlic Parmesan Fries was a disappointment. Main entrees: Halibut, Lancaster Duck Breast, and Scallops were well-seasoned. Nothing exciting or creative on the food prepared. "

  • "Had a great brunch here and highly recommend one of their specialty cocktails. The prosecco however is way too pricey for its quality-don't get that but everything else was great!"

  • "Hotel dining with variety of offerings, interesting recipes that are both competently executed and pleasingly presented. Wine selection was good. 1682 is a convenient and attractive dining amenity located adjacent to the hotel's lobby. We had an opportunity to dine for dinner and breakfast. Hostess was distracted with phone calls ( room service ?), phone calls had priority over guest waiting to seat. Wait staff was attentive. I suggest they reevaluate their coffee selection and method of preparation; it was bitter, grounds in cup and request for fresh cup was not any better than the first cup. "

  • "Enjoyed the restaurant. Like the big windows. Waitress was friendly and knew what she was doing. Table mates enjoyed their food. Nice selections in the bread basket. Bacon wrapped dates were enjoyable. The Kale Caesar salad didn't seem to have anything to do with a Caesar salad. Very fresh though. Burger was excellent. The fries were not hot at all. Left most of them on the plate. Mac & Cheese was enjoyed by table mates, it seemed under seasoned to me. Overall it was a fun, nice atmosphere with excellent service and the food was good but not outstanding. Would recommend it to certain friends but not foodies."

  • "My dinner here a month ago was excellent, lunch last Saturday was a disappointment. The dining room was not busy, but since we were only 2 , we were seated in the only table for 2, which was adjacent to two large tables of diners. Why can't host/ hostesses think out of the box and offer a table away from those already seated? It happens all the time and it frustrates me. My dining companion ordered the burger cooked rare. Our meals arrived, the french fries on both plates were stone cold. A bite into his burger showed the beef was fully cooked, not a trace of pink. It went back and the second try was perfect."

  • "This is the 2nd time I have been to Square1682 and the food was even better! So happy I choose to go here for my birthday lunch. It is a fabulously decorated place with a lot of space to move around, your not crunched in with many tables. Also the staff is Fabulous too, my waitress was the best and very fast! I can't wait to come back for my 3rd visit!"

  • "Great place with excellent service and unique dishes that are not over the top. Meghan our waitress was helpful and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed the house burger and the Kale Caesar. Plenty of flavorful food. Popcorn with truffle oil is addictive, yum! Looking forward to bringing some more friends the next visit."

  • "Loved the menu. The kale Caesar was a great twist on a classic. The mussels and shrimp special also great and nice bread basket."

  • "The food (and free truffle oil popcorn) at Square 1682 was delicious, although the salmon portion was rather small and the filet mignon could have been hotter. The waiter was nice but a bit inattentive. The wine seemed quite over-priced for the quality, and it took 15-20 minutes to get the white wine we ordered because "it had to be chilled." Also, the noise level was high. "

  • "Our party of 4 had a fantastic time at Square 1682. We decided on the spur of the moment to head downtown to have a night out and 1682 made our weekend! Food was terrific and the staff was great! From vegetarian dishes to meat dishes, all was on point! The staff took attentive care to ensure our happiness. Special thanks to our server George and manager Matt. Highly recommended."

  • "Innovative and delicious food with expert and friendly service. Extemely high noise level (bar and restaurant are in one large area; we literally had noisy people standing next to our table as we ate) and high mark up on wine are reasons why I did not rate this 5 stars overall."

  • "We like Square 1682 for informal pre-Orchestra dining. Service is quick and friendly, the menu is eclectic and the food is always very good. This time we had the bacon-wrapped dates as an appetizer, and the ravioli and salmon as entrees. All were delicious. The restaurant gets a bit noisy because of the bar, but never out-of-hand. "

  • "Our food was excellent from appetizers (bacon wrapped dates), to entrees (lamb short ribs and pork tenderloin) to dessert (chai creme brulee). Service was friendly and unpretentious. Less than 10 minute walk to Kimmel Center. Great spot for dinner before or after the Orchestra. "

  • "Both my friend and I had special needs - the chief came out personally to help accommodate my request. Everything was very fresh and served attractively. Both the lamb ribs and beef cheeks were a bit fatty for our liking, but we did order red meats. Nice stop between Suburban Street station and the Kimmel Center"

  • "That was best part of our meal. Decided to try pulled pork bar menu item...not pulled pork. Deconstructed plate of three items. Identified Star of anise as dominating spice in meat. Not a fan. Took too long to bring one glass of wine. Table behind us brought in their own food from somewhere else. Guess they knew better than we did..."

  • "If you're looking for a spot in Center City that not only has delicious food but fantastic hand-crafted cocktails, Square 1682 is definitely the spot. Their liquor list is very impressive! I personally enjoyed one of their rum cocktails, the "Fake Name, Fake Passport" which included ginger syrup, mint, and brut sparkling wine. Delicious!"

  • "Started my meal with popcorn dressed with truffle oil. Fantastic. Kale salad was nicely dressed chopped. Did not love the bar height table and stool. Would rather sit in a regular height chair."

  • "Square 1682 is not a big place, but that's a good thing, it's personable and intimate. From the giant, intricate bulbs hanging from the ceiling to the open plan kitchen, it's a happening place with a busy bar. My reservations we're at 8 on a Saturday night, so it was understandably starting to pick up, but the small place combined with the free flowing wine made for a noisy environment. Not unbearable, just intense; then the food came, and I forgot how loud it was."

  • "Nothing we had was bad, but nothing was really good. The service was very spotty."
