Diner Reviews
  • "Started my meal with popcorn dressed with truffle oil. Fantastic. Kale salad was nicely dressed chopped. Did not love the bar height table and stool. Would rather sit in a regular height chair."

  • "Had a Sunday evening business dinner and it was out standing.....menu and food wwe outstanding, everyone really liked what they had.....service was great as usual...."

  • "Nothing we had was bad, but nothing was really good. The service was very spotty."

  • "Square 1682 is not a big place, but that's a good thing, it's personable and intimate. From the giant, intricate bulbs hanging from the ceiling to the open plan kitchen, it's a happening place with a busy bar. My reservations we're at 8 on a Saturday night, so it was understandably starting to pick up, but the small place combined with the free flowing wine made for a noisy environment. Not unbearable, just intense; then the food came, and I forgot how loud it was."

  • "My family and I came here to celebrate a big birthday. The food was really amazing. The kids raved about the bacon-wrapped dates (I don't eat bacon). My meal -- the halibut special plus the Brussell sprouts special -- was out of this world. The meal was so incredibly delicious that I wanted to take the remainder home. However, we were staying in a hotel without a frig so I asked if I could come back the next day to pick it up. Matt came over and said better yet, he'd make me a fresh dinner the next day to pick up (for free). Well, I did come by the next day and picked up a different halibut meal. Brought it home and I was blown away -- by taste and the freshness. Thank you, Square 1682, for making my special birthday that much more special!"

  • "The food at Square 1648 was delicious. We both ordered a scallops special. For appetizers I had bacon wrapped dates & my friend had soup, both tasted fantastic. We waited about 10 minutes for our table to be ready, which was only annoying b/c there isn't really much space to stand inside (the hostess desk is right by the door into the hotel, so people kept bumping us on their way in and out) but once we were seated the waiter was fantastic. We had two friends join us for drinks, and they were great about accommodating them as well."

  • "I had both lunch and dinner as it is also adjacent to a hotel where I was staying. The lunch was delicious and a delightful staff. For evening they suddenly change to vapid and awful staff and the food is nothing to write home about...in other words, do not bother."

  • "My Fiancee and I keep coming back here, especially when they offer 1000 point reservations on OT! Not onlyl is the food excellent, but they are always friendly. We were given the opportunity to try the truffle popcorn and it was phenomenal. Truffle oil is one of those things that can overwhelm the senses and ruin the dish, whatever it may be, if used in excess; the popcorn was balanced with the perfect amount of truffle oil to make it addictive! The salmon dish and burger that we had were great and we had an overall great experience and nice night out after a long week."

  • "My wife and I went here on a whim before the Phantom of the Opera. It's a small restaurant with great food and unique drinks and great service."

  • "I was meeting several referral sources face to face for the first time and wanted to offer them a relaxing lunch with great food. This place met my expectations and facilitated a great business discussion. The service was attentive but not intrusive and the menu choices were varied and innovative. I absolutely loved my black bean burger - wished that I had room for the warm chocolate chip cookie offered for dessert!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 55 wedding anniversary at Square 1682 and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and well prepared, the service was impeccable. We highly recommend this restaurant for special affairs or just to have a wonderful dinner. We loved the special dessert we received for our special day. Thank you!!!!"

  • "Wait service was friendly, helpful, and efficient. But getting seated despite having a reservation was a bit chaotic. Appetizers were bland but main course was good."

  • "I took my date to this restaurant as a last minute choice as we didn't plan ahead that night and there were reservations available. The atmosphere and lighting were modern and unique but very good for a date night or a night out. The waitstaff was very friendly and the food came out on time. It was nice being able to see the chefs working and finishing your food at the end of the restaurant. Both of our dishes were delicious and cooked just right. Nothing was over done and everything was the right temperature when it came out. There was quite an extensive cocktail menu at the table but we didn't get any that night. Overall I was very happy with my experience and would go back."

  • "Attached to a hotel, this little restaurant delivered what I expected: a hip, young atmosphere to take a date. The place is a little small, so a few times my chair was bumped by the wait staff and other customers. The food was very good, but don't go starving, or you might need to make a McD's stop on the way home (like I did)."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "The food is flavorful; the service is friendly, but not intrusive; the ambiance is not distracting, and only the wine is overpriced."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Visited this place with a few friends, since it had been a busy day - we jumped straight to entrees but were served with complimentary truffle popcorn (must try). The service was really sharp and food was decent. I might go back to this place because of the service, food wise there are some highlights like the mushroom Ravioli but all in all nothing that makes you come back for more."

  • "The two of us weren't overly hungry, so we ordered three small plates between us. The mussels, prepared with celery root, heirloom potatoes, basil butter, were incredibly good and the serving would have been too large if ordered as a traditional appetizer for one person. Did I mention that they were incredibly good? We also shared the duck crostini and warm spinach salad, both of which also were very good. It is a little loud at the dining tables in the bar area but not so loud that we couldn't have a normal conversation. We have eaten upstairs before, which is quieter. Service was attentive with a team approach to taking the orders, delivering the food, refilling water glasses, and clearing plates."

  • "Like the changes here...moving restaurant to street level and tweeking menu. It was my first time eating here, but hadnt realized so much had changed inside the Palomar Hotel restaurant. Food was good...loved the farro with the Branzino, but serve it on a plate, not in the skillet (too hard to use fork and knife with)."

  • "The menu looked interesting, but the food was just so-so. This was my first and last visit."

  • "Good for groups of max size of 4 (squeeze 6). Ambiance was great for a business dinner we had planned. Restaurant was busy enough without being over-crowded, and noise level was fine for easy conversation. I chose this place for the creative menu, and my guests were very pleased by the result. We had truffled popcorn (a must), bacon wrapped dates, calamari, carrot soup (yum), Kale Cesar salad, Beef Coulis, open-face ravioli. The blue cheese rolled in eggplant was a very creative touch . We all cleaned our plates. Each person had a look of excitement at trying the unique flavor combinations... In all, the restaurant made for a perfect evening, and I will go back. Service was solid. Easy walk to and from the train is key!"

  • "Dinner was excellent as always. Truffle oil popcorn for a starter was better than any I've ever had. Pork tenderloin was superb. Always a treat eating there."

  • "The food, service, location are excellent. I have already told several friends they should check it out."

  • "WOW! How did I not know about Square 1682 until now? Went with a business associate for lunch. First impression was from the chairs - perhaps the most comfortable I've sat in at a restaurant. The menu was not huge, but was quite varied and compelling. The prix fixe options were not scaled down from ala carte and neither of us could finish it all. The tastes were profound and kept us taking another bite and another bite long after we were stuffed. The staff was perfectly attentive, never hovering, yet always right there when appropriate. Clearly, they enjoy working there - you can't really fake demeanor."

  • "Far better than you might expect for a hotel restaurant. Food was great and the bar refreshingly modern. The open kitchen and small dining room provided less than relaxing ambiance. One gets the feeling that everybody there is "on the go." But again, the food really was GREAT!! Short walk to the theater district. Great find - we'll be back!"

  • "The salmon entree was the best salmon I have had in many years. Cooked to perfection and a superior piece of fish to start with, that was very obvious. Very nicely designed room, I will be back soon. The smoked carrot soup with shrimp was outstanding."

  • "Highly recommend this outstanding restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia's restaurant row! Kimpton restaurants are always special and this one is no exception."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "Food was decent. Service was OK (It was a Friday night). Probably a good spot to grab a few drinks, but a little loud for a dinner."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "This place is much nicer than it seems on the pics. The truffle popcorn was delicious, my spinach salad was great (although the shrimp was undercooked, but that was taken off the bill as soon as l mentioned it), my daughter loved her burger and fries, and the bubbly rose was delicious. Reasonably priced too!"

  • "Loved the pepper/almond dip with pita chips. Nice size meal portions, too. Will definitely return!"
    Dined on 2/18/2014
  • "Welcoming and casual setting with a european flair. Food was terrific and special dietary requests were no trouble. David, our server, was outstanding! Serving was at a comfortable pace. We were not rushed out of the restaurant, despite it being a busy Saturday night. We ended up spending 4 hours there, a great evening indeed. Definitely on our list of go-to spots."

  • "Went here for Valentine's Day. A long wait regardless of reservations. But worth it! Food was delicious and V-day menu was amazing. They had no problem with substitutions to cater our preferences. Very hip and lively."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Enjoyed an excellent valentines dinner - tasty, well- proportioned romantic meal. Only 2 draft beers, but loved them both. Outstanding drink menu, what I will remember most is the "once around the block" smoky flavored agave...awesome! Great attentive service, too."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "We were about 20 mins. late and they sat us pretty quickly and were really nice about it. The restaurant is on the smaller size but had a nice feel to it. Because it was Valentine's Day the menu was very limited but still really good. Our waiter was amazing! Only con was that the drinks were a on the pricey side but it is located in the middle of downtown."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Nice, small restaurant with an interesting menu. Asked for the truffle popcorn (it wasn't on the Valentine's weekend menu) and they brought some right away (at no charge). Excellent food."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "We're going on a second date, so it can't have been too bad. I wasn't really expecting the Valentine's special six-course meal, and thus neglected to allow time for it. Fortunately, the a la carte offerings did not disappoint."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Two of us agreed to meet for lunch. We ordered off the price fixed menu. Two omelette a. It took three tries to get the order correct. I wanted egg whites and my friend preferred no sausage. The manager was very nice about it but it was sort of absurd. There appeared to be a lack of communication with the cook. Once we got them they were really greasy. It's such a shame since it is a lovely location and the ambience is charming"

  • "Took my girlfriend here for valentines day off of a suggestion from a friend. The service was great but besides that there was nothing special. My rack of lamb couldn't get any smaller and it wasn't even that hot, warm at best. The layout of the restaurant was not what I was expecting; it is connected to a hotel. All in all I would give this place a 6/10 with the only saving factor being our awesome waiter."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Not bad, not great. The menu looked inviting, but the food was cold and the ravioli was not thoroughly cooked. Al dente is one thing, but hard pasta is another altogether. Loud and the waiter was nice, but clearly not polished as a server."
