Square 1682Creative dishes, well doneWe have been to this restaurant several times now, and have had a very nice experience every time. This time, we had their truffle oil popcorn as an appetizer along with a hummus, baba ganoush and pepper trio. Our main courses ran from pork loin served with watercress and cippolini onion , to spring beef ragu , a duck breast with a lobster crepe, and a Texas Longhorn burger with a quail egg. Our waitress did an excellent job and was very pleasant. The restaurant has moved to the ground floor from it's previous location on the second. It is a bit noisy for conversation, but the excellent chef, beautiful presentation, and excellent service assure we will be back.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, personalized serviceWe had been here for late night drinks a few times and chose Mother's Day for our first dinner. Even with our 2-year-old son in tow they were absolutely terrific and the food was delicious, with organic ingredients. Our son loved the truffle butter popcorn among other things. We can't wait to go back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDecided to try something newDecided to try something new for our anniversary; and we were blown away! Fantastic food (we cleared our plates), decent drink list...definitely coming back.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were initially disappointedWe were initially disappointed to discover the restaurant had remodeled and removed the quiet upper dining level. The noise level was very high when we arrived at 7:30 on a Friday evening, not surprisingly. The hostess happily moved us to a table at the rear of the restaurant and as the bar crowd left the noise level dropped considerably and we had a very enjoyable evening. The service was fabulous, the food very well priced and delicious. The chef even hand wrote her recipe for Scotch Eggs which my husband had enjoyed on a previous visit. We'll definitely be back to one of our neighborhood favorites.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMDisappointed the menu gotDisappointed the menu got scaled back from original. Thought the food was ok but other times we had eaten there in the past had been much better. I would rate them a 7.5 but all the other times a perfect 10!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were excellent.Food and service were excellent. Crispy calamari was delicious. My husband and I chose the Square $20.13 (Square baby greens, roasted halibut wrap, and panna cotta) and $16.82 prix fixe (Soup, braised shortrib sandwich, and cookie).4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDelitefully unexpectedWent expecting a completely different experience. Renovations occurred since we were last there and they seem to still be wrapping them up, upon arrival work was still apparently taking place. Hostess sat us at a peculiar table for 5:30 and was not very informative but it did get better from there. David our server was very accommodating and provided excellent service and would be a reason for us to to return there again in addition to the wonderful tastes on the menu. The transformation while still in transition will be well worth the effort in the end. We see ourselves visiting Square 1682 again.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food! Our evening started with a small glitch. Our reservation has been confirmed the previous day and upon arriving the evening of our reservation our name wasn't in the system. The GM was more than accommodating and apologetic. The food and service more than made up for the small scheduling glitch. Both the food and service were outstanding and we will 100% return. We had the bacon wrapped dates (courtsey of Square 1682), organic green salad, seafood special, and lamb short ribs. All of which were AMAZING. My husband and I plan to return!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are frequent customersWe are frequent customers of Square 1682. The food is great, the service is excellent from the host to the bar tenders! We love this spot.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticWhat a fantastic evening we had at Square 1682, the restaurant associated with the Hotel Palomar in Philsdelphia. We were very glad that we had made reservations, because the restaurant is a small gem. My wife, 14-year old niece, and I were seated near the open kitchen and it was wonderful to watch the professional chefs work smoothly and quietly (no yelling here!). Each course was delicious. For appetizers we had the bacon-wrapped stuffed dates based on other Trip Advisor reviews and they were even more sublime than imagined, along with calamari and the truffle-lemon popcorn. For entrees, we tried the duck breast served with a duck egg omelet, the pork tenderloin, and the halibut -- all were truly outstanding in flavor and presentation. Da3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the second anniversaryThis was the second anniversary in row we came here and it was another wonderful experience with amazing food! Thanks!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally, a brunch that hasFinally, a brunch that has something for all tastes from simple eggs and sausage to Wild Huckleberry Pain Perdu. Friendly hostess that seemed genuinely glad you were there to an excellent server who kept water and coffee filled.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFine Dining in a Bar AtmosphereWe have gone here a few times before and love the restaurant and it's food. Not sure why the closed the restaurant seating upstairs though, but the food is still fantastically good. However now you just have to be prepared to shout at your dining partners. Granted we were there on St. Paddy's Day but it was not the same atmosphere at all. From a culinary stand point you are still eating/experiencing fine dining, but from an experience stand point you are basically seating at tables in a bar setting. I am not sure why the change. Again, food great....but now not the special romantic dining spot anymore.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMhigh end lunch at reasonable costI've made Square 1682 a regular lunch stop during Restaurant Weeks, and they have a reasonable regular lunch menu as well. Top quality dishes and friendly service. And they gave us their famous truffle popcorn--a must.1/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
