A word from Spur Gastropub
Spur Gastropub

An intimate urban pub in Belltown. Plates to share. Cocktails to entice.

Chefs Brian McCracken and Dana Tough opened Spur in Seattle’s Belltown in 2008 and already it’s been recognized by Food & Wine magazine as one of the country’s top restaurants. Acknowledged for turning out some of the best dishes and cocktails in town by local media, the Chefs were selected as "Rising Star Chefs" nationally by the industry insider magazine StarChefs. In addition to earning the attention of Wine & Spirits magazine, their cocktails have made Spur one of Seattle’s top 10 bars.

The Chefs’ collaboration dates back to their time in the kitchen at Maria Hines’ Earth and Ocean restaurant, together on Hines’ traveling team at the 2005 James Beard Dinner in New York, and today creating their menus at Spur.

Diner Reviews
  • "Always great food, ambience and service at Spur. We love the creative menu and very attentive service, and eat here every time we visit Seattle."

  • "I am not a foodie but I know when I like food. Spur did an excellent job mixing flavors that you would never think would meld well. The slow roasted pork cheeks were other worldly and the cheddar gnudi was a great way to start. The server was excellent and gave really good suggestions for food choices. We can not wait to go back!"

  • "Gorgeous and creative presentation and absolutely delish. Expensive But totally and worth it."

  • "Had the 5 course tasting menu paired with cocktails. Service was delightful along with many of the dishes. A few dishes were misses and the cocktails were just too inventive. All in a good night but would suggest they simplify a bit"

  • "This is a great place to grab a cocktail and a REALLY good snack. Don't expect to get full here. Portions are super small. That said, what you do get is amazing. I would go here to get ready for a night on the town. Light snack, good cocktail... Go rage."

  • "Spur is small and a bit loud but really excellent. We noticed that all the couples around us were talking to the tables near them asking about the food and just having a terrific time. The food was outstanding and the cocktails inventive and fun. A really surprising find."

  • "This is the second time that I have been to Spur. It has not disappointed either time. I don't have any specific menu suggestions because everything that we tasted was SO GOOD. Presentation, variety, taste all top shelf. Will definitely go back. This is not a criticism, just a word to those that haven't been there before, if you order the way that it's recommended - multiple small plates - be prepared for a fairly hefty bill."

  • "The cocktails were great, and the bartender was knowledgeable and friendly."

  • "We live in Belltown, and have eaten or drunk at Spur a number of times. Needless to say, it is one of our favorites when we want something really, really special in the small plates category. Not tapas, not ethnic, just exquisite small crafted plates - a foodies delight. And the bartenders are some of the best in the city. Highly recommended, but take some cash."

  • "I had been waiting to try this place after reading the reviews on a few different sites. The menu was appealing, as well as the extensive whiskey menu. And it definitely lived up to all my expectations. That food was fantastic and different. The service was attentive and knowledgable."

  • "Loved it. Amazing food and exceptional service. I wouldn't change a thing. We had the tasting menu and added pork sliders (perfect). Great wine list and a window table made it a romantic and special evening "

  • "I was in Seattle for only a few days, and had a long list of restaurants I wanted to eat at. But after going to Spur the first night, I went right back the very next evening to try more stuff. Service was smart and friendly, no attitude at all. Food is as good as I've had ANYWHERE - SF, NYC, Boston - fresh, creative, flavorful and satisfying. Salmon Crostini is a must have - one for everyone. You'll want more than that, but allow yourself to order more things to try instead. You can't go wrong! And my vote for the best cocktail around is the Bentley... but the bartender is a true craftsman and knows his stuff so the flavors really work well together (I tried other drinks my friends had). You will love this place."

  • "Food was great. They serve the entree with gels instead of sauces. It makes the dishes unique and delicious!"

  • "Great food and service. Unusual flavor combinations. A true dining experience. Our waiter was awesome."

  • "We ate dinner there several nights ago after reading the rave reviews. The salad and the halibut were both very well made but both were spoiled by a very citrus vinaigrette and a very citrus sauce. I know that they were probably being seasonal for the spring but the flavors were too unbalanced for my taste (which, admittedly, runs more to savory than sweet). Also, for a restaurant with prices on the high end, the service was very slow (I believe they may have been short-staffed as they were lovely and kind and accommodating when they were to be found)."

  • "Spur is ranks at the top of my list of favorite Seattle restaurants. Their drink menu is fun and their food menu always has new, seasonal options. My favorite of all time was the smoked yogurt and artichoke salad. The salmon crostini is always a favorite and the tarragon sorbet was amazing. "

  • "I chose Spur because of great reviews on Trip Advisor. I'm so happy I did; we had a wonderful meal filled with new adventures. I will save details and pictures for Trip Advisor, but I highly recommend it! I believe our server's name was Dylan and he was absolutely stellar! The chefs' creations, including the drinks, were a foodie's dream. Thank you Spur!"

  • "I have been to spur multiple times, and somehow they manage to raise the bar each visit, be it from their modernistic approach to northwest cuisine, the uniqueness of they're desserts, or the caliber of cook in they're kitchen. As a chef I understand what it takes to achieve the level of detail they have embodied. Would recommend to anyone who really wants to understand the level of craft in cooking that can attain nearly artistic measure!"

  • "We had not been here in a year or more. In the past we had spectacular, memorable meals. This time we had a nice meal but it didn't blow me away as much as past visits. Still good, creative food - but maybe not worth going out of your way for."

  • "Amazing food! Happy hour menu is awesome! The cured salmon on toast with mascarpone and caper is a must have. I took one bite and asked for another!"

  • "My second time at Spur and every. single. bite. was. divine. Food cooked to perfection. Every plate had such character and complexity. Every food lovers dream. The only that could use improvement is that the restaurant is a bit loud and cramped with tables very close together, but I didn't notice once I started eating! Highly recommended!"

  • "We came here with a group of 4 to try something different. We had a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant is small and intimate, but this adds to its charm. The wait staff was attentive, knowledgeable but not overbearing. The food was what you would want from an innovative gastro-pub; from the unique presentation to the interesting flavor combinations. I would classify it as a "fun" dinner experience. The prices were very affordable - so this encouraged us to order and share many plates on the menu. Also liked that you could order and share smaller plates or order a larger entree for yourself - in case you don't like the whole sharing thing. We will be back with other friends. Thank you Spur. "

  • "My husband and I had been meaning to try Spur from quite some time, but it was always packed when we stopped by without a reservation. We decided to try Spur during restaurant week and were so glad we did. The food was interesting and multilayered (not to mention very tasty!) and the cocktail and win pairings we order were fabulous too. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I've been here for drinks a few times and that experience was fantastic. The bar is intimate, staff is super friendly, and the cocktails are superb. I heard the food was really good, but when I went here for restaurant week, I was a bit disappointed. First of all, they got rid of happy hour which is a total bummer. And the food portions are really small. My plate of pasta barely left me satisfied. There was a marked use of gels and foam which I'm not a fan off since they lack real body and add almost zero flavor. I felt like something cool was going to happen, but it didn't. Should have gotten the burger."

  • "So my friend Kevin's girlfriend was out of town for a few weeks and it happened to coincide with Seattle Restaurant Week, so I picked this restaurant for the two of us to have dinner and catch up. The pre-fix menu offered three starters, three entrees, and two desserts from which to choose. In short, the food was excellent, but they brought me the wrong starter AND entree. The waitress realized this and said she comped our drinks. Then when the bill came, our drinks were still on there. The service was just laughably bad, but the food was excellent."

  • "I absolutely loved the whimsical approach to the food. Not only was it delicious, but it was beautiful to look at. I've been to a lot of restaurants where the food was pretty, but not tasty. This is NOT at all like that; the food was fantastic and artsy. I am definitely coming back"

  • "The food was wonderful - tasty and artfully presented. It was, however, nearly impossible to have a conversation with my lovely date. So, if you know ASL, this is the place for you. Otherwise, go during an off hour I suppose. Bob"

  • "After driving 5 hours from the southeastern corner of Washington to Seattle, this is where we start each visit. The food is very well prepared and exciting--plus we can walk over from our hotel. I have medical/dietary restriction; the kitchen and wait staff are very careful to observe them. Already looking forward to our next meal."

  • "The restaurant was perhaps less than 1/3 full midweek night and you would have expected to be able to carry on a conversation with the people sitting across the table. However there were a group of about 6 sitting at a nearby table that just drank all night long, totally oblivious that their loud talking and howls of laughter were really annoying. It is a very small restaurant with no where to move. I also did not appreciate that young men were standing in the open city metered parking spots across from the restaurant and to use the spot, you had to give them money to move out of the way or force your way in. I would say our wine selection and the beef were outstanding and outshined Ruth Chris and Mortons."

  • "Took my husb for a birthday dinner and was not disappointed that I decided on this (of the many, many other candidates) as the destination to celebrate his impending oldness. The five course tasting menu was fantastic. Between the two of us we tried all of the savory options, and each was delectable. I think the star of the my meal was the sous vide Wagyu dish (main course) as well as the chicken liver terrine. Actually, the sweetbreads and venison tartar were also delectable. My pescetarian birthday boy was quite taken by the arctic char, the big eye tuna , and the desert. The cocktail pairing (we both went with that) is highly recommended. Why "almost flawless", you ask? A few tiny service snags, is all. Overall, an amazing experience!"

  • "From the moment we walked in, Spur was incredible. The servers were attentive, and the food and cocktails are not to be missed. Standouts are the maple old fashioned, venison tartar and wag you beef. Worth every penny!"

  • "If you want truly well-made and interesting cocktails and a meal that will linger in your mind, I highly recommend Spur. It's small and maybe a little noisy, but it's a Gastropub not a typical (or boring) restaurant. The cocktail menu has seasonal offerings that will open your mind and please all the senses. No fru-fru girly drinks here, bartenders think like chefs. Serious craft going on. The menu makes you want to try something new and rewards your willingness to take a tiny gamble. I'm not a dessert eater, but I was drawn to one item that I cannot stop thinking about: pear sorbet, jasmine sponge cake and "leatherwood honey" meringue. Wow! I wish the entrees were just a little bigger, but the flavors are so good it's still worth it."

  • "Small delicious plates with wonderfully seasoned interesting and unique combinations of ingredients. Servings were nicely paced, with attentive and friendly staff. Seating is rather tight, and decor and lighting a bit dark but still a pleasant and intimate atmosphere. Will definitely return. Despite complaints of price for small servings, two of us had a satisfying meal with five plates, desserts, coffees, and still came in at about $100. Definitely worth it. The homemade tagliatelle was perfectly cooked and sauced. Pork cheeks meltingly tender. Everything just worked food wise for us."

  • "The last time I dined at Spur I was incredibly impressed by the food - beautifully intricate flavors handled with delicate care. Back again after two years and the food did not disappoint. The restaurant itself could use a bit more space between tables and an update to make it a little less drab, but it's really well worth the trip."

  • "My sweetheart treated me to a Valentine's Day dinner here - he knows it's my favorite place! Tonight I had the seasonal Big Eye Tuna. Raw ahi sashimi with foie gras that spreads on it like fine butter, celery and clementine to perk up the otherwise-savory dish. It was divine. It still hasn't taken the place of my perennial favorite, the wagyu sirloin, but I could have it nightly! We ended our night with the cheese platter, which was delicious. Two small nuisances couldn't ruin the perfect evening for me: I wish there had been more crackers to compliment the cheeses, and my favorite house drink, the Empress, no longer comes with grapefruit foam! Bummer - it really needs the citrus to round it out. Thanks for another fantastic evening, Spur!"

  • "Fabulous Valentine's Day dinner - fixed menu, but great flexibility with special requests. And excellent, interesting wine pairings for all of the dishes."

  • "I was one of a party of four we ordered the 5 course tasting menu. I literally felt like I was a judge on iron chef. The food was beautifully presented, very different and tasty. The wait staff was helpful extremely knowledgable about the menu and drinks. The liver terrine which I was a little reluctant about melted in my mouth deliciously. The food combinations in one dish were unusual and always surprisingly delicious. I loved my experience at spur and would love to return. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is that it was a little chilly in the restaurant and while the candles on the table added to the ambiance it was poorly lit making it hard to read the menues."
