Great cocktails. Excellent service. The food was good, but not fabulous. They served the ribeye sliced in half lengthwise with the inside facing up on the plate, which was an unusual presentation. It was as if they were trying to hide the exterior. For many people, the exterior on a nicely seared ribeye is the part they look forward to, so this approach did not work for me. Beware of the wine list. It offers an excellent selection of fine wines, but it was a struggle to find a bottle under $200. Nevertheless, I am happy to return to Spruce in the future because I love the swanky atmosphere and outstanding service. I hope to make a better entree selection next time.

This was my second time there and I have to travel to get there (about 45 minutes) and it did not disappoint. I used to live in that neighborhood and think that this is a great addition to the neighborhood. Food and service excellent, especially the specials. Menu a little limited. Wine menu a tad too long.

Food is excellent without being cutting edge. So noisy, it was difficult to have a normal conversation. The biggest problem was the noise carryover from the bar. A highpoint was the porkloin and porkbelly combination with a beautiful sauce. A number of reasonably priced California wines.

We were celebrating a special Birthday and didn't want to go downtown. What a gem we found. Our experience was amazing. Even though it was a Friday night and busy, we were treated as if we were the only guests. We both ordered different things so we could double our pleasure by sharing. I had the beet salad and the Burrata cheese was so soft and gooey that we will now try to make it at home. We also ordered the pork tenderloin which was done to perfection, and the duck breast that was the most tender, think duck breast I have ever seen. Of course we had to try the beignets after reading the reviews. Wow!! Now we want to go back and try the bar menu.

I was with my boyfriend visiting SF and there wasn't a better choice. The Beet salad was spectacular, I had the corn ravioli that absolutely loved and he had the lamb which was fabulous and the peach dessert absolutely wonderful. We loved all four plates. The service was great and the ambiance was nice for a romantic couple. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Two days ago we visited Spruce for the first time and it was one of the nicest dining experiences we have had in years. Spruce is really a beautiful venue - spacious, comfortable understated luxury. The waitress was superb offering to serve splits of the two dishes we each ordered and serve them as four separate courses (at no extra charge). My wife expressed interest in a soup we didn't order and a small cup was served before we started the meal. The food was excellent - plated beautifully on top of the line tableware. Dinner was served at a leisurely pace, so we felt neither rushed nor forgotten. This is a place to return to alone and with friends.

A delightful evening in all respects ... ambiance, food, service, attentiveness and decor all top of the line! I had the Duck -- cooked to perfection and my soul mate had the steak again a fabulous choice. They even brought a special little cake with Happy Anniversary written on the plate in Chocolate....... and it was tiny enough that it did not discourage us from still having the amazing peach cobbler for dessert!!

Having the great good fortune of celebrating our 65th anniversary on this occasion, both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful evening with a fabulous presentation of gourmet flavors and fusion blended to perfection. We had the chilled carrot and parsnip soup as well as the heirloom tomato salad, and wild salmon on a truffle puree! A short walk from the hotel on California, this turned to be a really nice place for dinner for a family of four. Service was outstanding, the wine recommendation spot on (despite the wine list being a little expensive - our bottle was 80$ and one of the cheaper wines available). We opted for the scallops for starter, then had salmon and halibut main dishes which were very good. The children were offered the bar menu as well which includes mussels, burgers and fries - that's a great option for families. With pre-dinner drinks, a bottle of wine and dessert, the bill came to 350$. The walk back via Washington was recommended by the server and well worth it. We had a great time and would love to come back.

Service was attentive but the food was a disappointment. The roasted corn soup was lacking flavor and just very sweet. My green salad with goat cheese tart had a nice light citrus dressing and the tart was excellent. Duck entree was well cooked, however I ordered the corn ravioli which were very doughy with barely any corn flavor and may have been the worst ravioli I've had. More like bad gnocchi. I love bread and admit I tend to judge but the bread was very sub par, not fresh or tasty. It was served with both plain butter and butter flavored with honey (and nuts?) which seemed very out of place for a fine dinner venue. If you like the farm to table idea there are many other options in SF with more interesting food and venue.

Spruce was recommended by a friend who lives in the City and from beginning to end our experience there was wonderful. The welcoming staff were friendly and professional. No complaints about the food, loved the salmon, burger (from the bar menu), and the pork loin. We tried the olive oil cake which was tasty, my husband really loved the fresh brewed coffee. Our waiter David sent us off with complimentary giant cookies. The valet parking guy gave us very nice service as well...much appreciated. We all rated our experience very highly.

I asked the waiter what the most popular dishes were. I ordered two he recommended and both were terrible. One was a grilled lettuce salad with a yogurt dressing. not bad, but not great. and the other was a ratatouille lasagna. So bland and flavorless. If these were the best the place could offer I have worries. And if the waiter recommended these two just to move them, then I worry even more that a place like this has these kinds of practices. The best part of the meal was the cranberry bread with the cinnamon honey butter - and that was free! service was nice but recommendations were horrible.
