  • Great food, bad service

Not much more to say. Soup was cold, but very tasty. Food was very good, but took almost 1 hour to get (and we had 2 kids with us). Soup came before bread and drinks (even though it was cold) and without any spoons. Waitress was not very apologetic and relied on the host to make everything better. Tab was reduced as a result, but would rather have had the food and service be of similar quality.

Worth the chance .. client dinner, fish all around, very solid with prospects for outstanding raw bar. Wait staff feeling their way early but overall definitely a nice add to the Boulder community.

The food was delicious, creative, and beautiful. Not quite 5 star, but close. The setting was also very nice, comfortable, with good lighting and could be romantic if you get the right table. The servers were a little green, but eager to please. Most notably, however, it is quiet enough to actually have a conversation without any straining! Imagine that, a restaurant in Bldr where you can actually talk to your dinner companions! That is very hard to find.

We have been eating at every iteration the Boulderado makes at this spot. The Spruce is probably one oft he best yet. Not only was the food prepared perfectly, our server was the ultimate professional. The only glitch we had was a timing of the main courses not all arriving at the same time.

We did arrive 15 min early for our reservation and were seated, which we appreciated. Our server was very "on us" initially, almost too much, too soon. Then, though, when we were finally ready to order a drink she was no where to be found. We were 30 min at our table before we had a glass of wine. Food was good. Atmosphere felt a bit like an old person country club, maybe because all guests around us were at least 70. Not sure if that has to do the the age level staying in hotel?

We went here on a Monday night to celebrate a new job. I was pulled in because I'd had their oysters at Corner Bar before, and had been very pleased. Every single thing we ate was that excellent. Really. The scallop (a special plate) was a stand-out, as were the grilled peaches with crispy prosciutto. The best part of the whole experience may have been the service -- everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and really fun. I will definitely be back!

Having greatly enjoyed many memorable meals at Q's, we weren't sure what to expect from Spruce, the latest dining incarnation in this charming old hotel. We were pleasantly surprised at the level of service and the tastiness of the food. Our waitress was very attentive and our food selections arrived in a timely manner, despite being in the midst of a busy parents' weekend for CU. The menu isn't all that different from Q's, although we found the choices more limited. Fortunately, we found what we wanted in the daily specials. The oysters were fresh and yummy, the shrimp gazpacho was delicious, and the ruby red trout was very good. We will definitely go back again and look forward to the menu evolving and expanding over time.

We arrived at our reservation time and were seated with another couple where upon we ordered. When another table had their meals served who arrived 15 minutes after us I asked where our meals were and got the standard answer. After another 10 minutes (40 minutes from ordering) I went to the manager and we were served about 10 minutes later. Looks like they lost the order. The French Toast arrived cold, we were told by the waiter that they had no breakfast tea originally, but the manager located it a little too late, my salad arrived on a warm plate all of this with the restaurant about 40% occupied. A lot of problems that were dispensed with by a free meal. They need to get their act together!!!

Great setting in a historic hotel. The menu was interesting and the selections were quite good. Our waitress easily accommodated special requests. They're still working out service kinks, however. There was a lot of 'food auctioning', where the servers had no idea who got what (food and bar service), which was confusing when there were 8 people. There was also a lot of confusion re: splitting our bill (which we requested early in the meal). It all got straightened out, but it was distracting during an otherwise perfect evening (and took away from the overall experience).

My daughter and I checked OpenTable on a whim when passing through Boulder this past weekend and were totally delighted with finding a spot at Spruce Farm & Fish. We had Peach Fuzz bar drinks, that we very tasty, grilled peach salad, grilled brussel sprouts with a sweet chili sauce and incredible peach blackberry chantilly cakes with a red wine sauce for dessert. I would like to return for the next seasonal delights they offer....very nice place to dine!

I took a friend to celebrate her birthday at Spruce. We were greeted by a scowling woman who asks “can I help you?” I look at the 100% empty dining room and wonder, why so surly? I order a light pink cosmo. It's arrives dark pink. I order the garden linguine. When the meal is delivered, I ask for bread and I’m told it's extra. Seriously? The linguine is bland, mostly pasta, not enough vegetables and pesto to make it more than a bowl of noodles. A few sprinkles of goat cheese on the top aren’t enough to save it and I do something I never do…I salt it. I ask for a second drink. It's darker pink. We share a tart for dessert. It tastes as if it was frozen and reheated. In summary, the staff was unenthusiastic, the food bland and uncreative.

Very disappointing considering how promising the menu was. Pork Belly Benedict had a burnt taste. Couldn't tell if it was the Pork or a burnt muffin. Entire dish was bland. Cornmeal oysters were awful, sauce terrible. Lox & Bagel served with a huge pile of capers, as if it were a vegetable side dish. Plain & bland all around. Server was largely absent. Hardly any Tea choices and no Green Tea. Small coffee cups - IT'S BRUNCH! Busboy kept interrupting us to fill water even when we asked him not to. He said "I've got nothing else to do". 3 deep booths are awkward for service.

We were very happy with the meal and service at Spruce Farm and Fish. It feels fresh and we felt like we weren't in Boulder. The service was great and the food was delicious! We are in our forties and felt like the youngest people in there, but as more people start to learn about the new place, I think the demographic will be more varied! We would highly recommend checking it out.

We had a great dinner at Spruce Farm and Fish. There was 3 of us dining and we all enjoyed our meals but by far the most outstanding part was the whole snapper. The presentation was fabulous and the preparation leads to a crispy outside and tender inside that was to die for! One of our group had the ahi small plate and that was delicious as well. The grilled peach was also a big hit. All and all a very lovely meal.

We had a 6:15pm reservation for dinner, and there was lots of room in the main restaurant, we were seated in the enclosed patio at the front of the hotel.the place was full by 7:30 We order an calamari appetizer to share and I ordered the Bison burger, my mum, the chicken. There was a pretty long wait for the appetizer, when it arrived it wasn't that hot and even for deep fried, it was rock hard and dry suggesting it was previously cooked and re-heated. The Bison burger and chicken dishes recovered what would have been otherwise mediocre experience. Both were moist and tasty and served soon enough after the appetizer to make that forgotten. I'm sure the patio isn't all that bad on a great evening today wasn't in the rain.

The food was spectacular! I love the decor as well. The service was a bit rough. We ordered a bottle of wine to have with dinner and we were more than half way done with entrees before it arrived. My friends had long finished their cocktails and were a bit thirsty. Our server had a negative attitude about how things were going which made it worse. She was pleasant to us and everything else went smoothly. The timing of the food was great and the oysters in corn meal were something I will definitely crave and come back for. Well done!

Our dinner at Spruce was very unfortunate, made even worse by the fact that we invited a couple up from Denver to eat with us. First of all, there was no bread for the tables. Then, the seafood special three of us ordered was sold out--and we were a 7 p.m. reservation. We had to substitute one of only two other seafood dishes--odd in a supposed seafood restaurant. To add to the disappointment, my dish was not very tasty. When we tried to order the special peach dessert, it too was sold out. We split the bill between our two credit cards, and I discovered the next day that my card had been charged twice and theirs, not at all. Our friends reimbursed me. I called the manager about this but she has never returned my call.

It seems that things didn't changed that much at least with the menu. The update on the interior turned out quite nice and cozy. We had a party of six for brunch and 3 out of six sent their eggs back. Who wants to eat hard boiled eggs on their Benedict? Steak salad special looked good but we had to look for the steak. Service wasn't well timed and the waiter seemed annoyed. Overall it was quite mediocre.

At the time we visited, the restaurant had been open less than a week. We ordered the grilled palisade peach, which was excellent, house made rosemary garlic toast - delicious, and the stuffed piquillo peppers, which had great potential, but were unfortunately, not hot enough, so the texture was off the mark. We all ordered the striped bass. The fish was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments were unusual and very good. We would definitely order it again. We had the special peach crisp with strawberry ice cream and it was terrific. All in all they've done a nice job updating the space, it's airy and comfortable, the service was very good and the food was interesting and great as well. We would definitely go back.

We were anxiously awaiting a new foodie place, and based on the review in the paper, we thought we had found one. But alas, just ho-hum. Did get there in time for happy hour pricing so tried a few things. The portions were small and the mussels didn't come with any bread to soak up the delicious broth, that was an extra charge for the cheesy garlic bread. Would have been nice to have plain bread, since the broth already had garlic. Burger was fair and the chicken with the udon looked like it came straight from the banquet table for the wedding upstairs. The Garden linquini was good, but I added some protein and ordered shrimp which were just three medium sized and a bit over cooked. Just another hotel restaurant.
