Spring Mill CafeRustic elegance, consistently greatWe're regulars, and we're still surprised by great new menu twists. The daily soup was a new one for SMC - asparagus vichyssoise! It was full tasting and had great texture, but it was light and refreshing. My scallops were perfectly seared, the salads were fresh and crisp, and my wife's fish was simply beautiful. And we sat at our favorite two top in the corner feeling like dewy-eyed newlyweds. There's no place we'd rather eat.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat findWe had a fantastic meal, the food was excellent - every dish from the appetizer to dessert was delicious. In addition, the service was outstanding.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMEven lovlier the 2nd time aroundFirst visited last Dec., and finding in the dark was tough, but well worth it. This visit in friendlier weather, and enjoyed sitting for a twilight glass of wine in the garden before going in to our table.
Wait staff is hip, friendly, and knowledgeable, and really seem to care about what is being presented that evening. We never felt rushed or that we had overstayed our welcome. And the food was as good as we remembered.
Would definitely recommend to friends looking for a special spot.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSImply the bestI don't know why the Spring Mill can make it look so easy and yet so few restaurants get it right, but this place offers a beautiful ambience, the best quality food you can imagine, and outstanding service all without feeling stuffy for one moment. It's a favorite.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulousSpring Mill Café never fails. Food, service, ambience - all wonderful. One of our favorite places.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA little slice of the FranceWe went there for a meal to see if we wanted to hold our wedding reception at their location. The food was wonderful as well was the service. We quickly confirmed that we wanted to book the Spring Mill Cafe for our wedding reception. And it won't be the last time we dine there. We strongly recommend dinning here.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday rewardsAfter a particularly hard working afternoon doing some ultra heavy landscaping my partner and I ventured to the lovely Spring Mill Cafe. After sprucing up from all the hard work, we needed to be pampered, coddled and fed magnificent tasty food. We received all of that and more. Our dining adventure simultaneously excited and satisfied. The noise level was pleasant allowing us to converse thoughtfully. The food was freshly prepared and expertly presented. We were ripe with satisfaction when it came time to end a very pleasant evening.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThoroughly Impressed! We went to spring mill cafe because of a last minute tip from a friend. it was our wedding anniversary. what a wonderful meal. service was spectacular. I was so happy with the experience that I went back less than a week later with nine friends for a bachelorette brunch. it was another thoroughly enjoyable experience. this is my new favorite restaurant!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMShad a great meal w/greatShad a great meal w/great service! Romantic and quaint!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMA Eureka MomentWhile trying to find a restaurant for my lady- friends birthday, A Milestone of Sorts) I was dissatisfied with my online search through Chester County. Then it hit me like an Iron baguette over the head... The Spring Mill Cafe' !! Oui Oui!! I had visited the Spring Mill Cafe' almost 10 years earlier on a special occasion and had loved it. And the other night was exceptional! The Staff are all very good, The atmosphere and overall dining experience was wonderful. And The Food... Is Great!!! This is truly a Gem of a Restaurant of the well worn path of nearby established commercial districts. We Plan to return soon for the Tuesday thru Thursday PLAT Du Jour. I'm so Glad I Had That Eureka Moment. Your, Juanito5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWhere's the tajine?!A special place for my husband and me for as long as Spring Mill Cafe has been open. Outdoor dining on made-to-order mosaic tables with a colorful, well-tended garden to one side will make for great al-fresco dining. A favorite, tajine, was missing from the new menu. Longtime customers miss it! I had the lamb which was scrumptious - cooked to order with complimenting accompaniments. The Montmorency, a flourless chocolate dessert with whipped cream and cherry sauce, was a tad dry but still dense as it should be. The once delightlfully quirky dining room is morphing into a more streamlined place resulting in more noise. All those books and curiosities performed as noise reducers, I think. The service is gracious.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst timer...Food and service - excellent. The place itself has a shabby charm to it. Wooden seats and benches ensure you don't sit for too long! Space is small and is best for intimate dinning.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent country gemThe food here is excellent. Why I didn't go here a long time ago is a mystery to me. 4 years of missed opportunities!!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench countryside in conshohockenI will definitely return here. The food was excellent and the space very very charming. We went with our 3 year old and they were nice about it but I would not return with him again. Although our son usually does great in restaurants I feel this is just too quite with a relaxing atmosphere for his age. I would love to return for a girls night or a romantic dinner or brunch.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMNice surroundings and great foodDinner in teh farmhouse was very charming, and the "lapin a la moutarde" was excellent!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA little touch of FranceThe chef at Spring Mill Café never disappoints but consistently prepares gourmet food that tastes very French. Our light, fluffy omelets were preceded by hot, freshly baked rolls. The eggs were accompanied by skillet roasted potatoes which tasted fresh and delicious. We had been to the Café for dinner previously and also enjoyed the entire experience.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in local businesses!Perfect for any occasion! Beautiful restaurant nestled in a beautiful setting.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA gift from a friendMany years ago a dear friend introduced me to the Spring Mill Cafe and we shared a wonderful meal with wine and lots of love. That friend is no longer here and every time I return to this restaurant I have been able to share the love with new friends. It is a wonderful, special place that never disappoints.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful ExperienceMistakenly took my wife to Sip's for an alleged French meal ..terrible,,,,Luckily rebounded wonderfully with an anniversary sunday brunch at Spring Hill.... Food was great, service top notch, They created an excellent experience5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's been our default BYO for yearsOur reviews of SMC are repetitve because it's so consistently wonderful. It's country French with amazing innovation in ingredients, preparation and presentation. Nothing complex, nothing formal - just great food in a really cool old setting run by nice people who really want you to have a great time.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu has changed overThe menu has changed over the years but the great food remains the same as does the wonderful ambience.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding serviceWe have always had great food and great service at Spring Mill Cafe. This time was no exception. One of our very favorite places.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMromantic delicious gemService was wonderful. Atmosphere is romantic and quiet. Food was delicious!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day Brunch was superbOur first visit to Spring Mill Cafe was everything I had heard it was. A charming rustic farmhouse with a gorgeous garden, lovely young staff was so accommodating and charming, and the French food was delicious. Yes, we will return!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love the dining here, itWe love the dining here, it feels like we're away for the weekend! The food is very good and the service is warm and attentive.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSpring Mill was very verySpring Mill was very very good. Service was excellent, the food superb. My wife had the rabbit and I had the duck both great.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBoth the food and serviceBoth the food and service were extremely good, I have no negatives to say other than how cramped it can get. It was a muggy day when I went; the windows were open and just the number of bodies crammed into a small place. They however cannot control the weather so no fault there.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a terrific dinner toWe had a terrific dinner to celebrate my daughter's graduation. The menu is very nice (French). Appetizers included cheese plate (very good) and poached shrimp over mixed greens with an orange marmalade vinagrete (excellent). Our meals were very good and included filet mignon (grass fed) with a red wine reduction (tremendous and prepared perfectly), rabbit (very good), monkfish and redfish (wow) and pan fried scallops (very nice). Everyone enjoyed the desserts very much too (included mousse and cakes). The atmosphere is very nice. A quaint little house with a beautiful garden and a farmhouse across the parking lot (that you can sit outside or inside). We ate in the house and it was perfect. Excellent find. Expensive but worth it!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant without being PretentiousMy boyfriend and I decided to go out for a fancier dinner on Friday and wanted a BYO. We had heard great things about Spring Mill. Not knowing much about pate and see several different options in the appetizer selection, we went with a pate sampler. It was delicious! For our main courses, my boyfriend ordered scallops over a spring pea risotto and I ordered the braised rabbit in a creamy mustard sauce. There were two side dishes that caught our eye, so we ordered a potato artichoke hash and roasted kale. YUM to everything!! We sat outside, enjoying the ambiance and cool weather. The garden is beautiful and the cars passing by on the road are not even noticeable. We finished our meal with berries and cream. We will definitely be coming back!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA mustThe menu was extensive and I had trouble make a choice for an entree. Service impeccable. Lovely setting - relaxing and comfortable.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently excellent foodConsistently excellent food and service...just keeps getting better. An excellent BYOB!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treat at the Cafe'Always a good time at the Cafe'. Wife and I sat in the 'barn house' for the first time. Very cool. Food was tremendous, as usual. Wait staff pleasant (a little on the stuffy side, but, then again, they are serving a more upscale clientele, of which I am NOT...lol..)
Only two observations:
1. The barn house had a distinct 'musty smell' at first. My wife and I occupied one of the earlier seating times. The odor was overpowered by the great food when the dining room filled up a bit.
2. Our wine glasses were very water marked to the point of questioning if they were clean. That was not appealing. Take some time to rinse the glassware people! I think the $160 I paid for dinner should get me that, at least.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHad not been there in a whileHad not been there in a while and the food and atmosphere were fabulous. I told my husband we have to go back more regularly.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSitting on the porch was likeSitting on the porch was like being in France on Vacation. Our Server was the best!
Thank you for a lovely Saturday afternoon.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAll four of us really enjoyedAll four of us really enjoyed our meals. The hen with
Cous cous was delicious. Mushroom salad was
Good also. We appreciated that grass fed beef
Was on the menu and that we could order
Sides of vegetables like kale and Brussel sprouts.
The service was excellent. I thought the flour less
Chocolate cake was too dry but my husband enjoyed it.
The only downside of our experience: it was much too
Noisy!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a fabulous experienceAlways a fabulous experience at Spring Mill - like a step into a genteel time machine/country get-away. We've enjoyed this restaurant for more than a decade and are continually surprised by how the food and overall experience keeps getting better and better.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the bestSimply the best. Lunch, Dinner, Special Occassion. The is no place like it in the area. In fact you will fee like you are in France--in the wonderful countryside--enjoying a memorable meal.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSpring mill cafe once againSpring mill cafe once again exceeded our expectations on Wednesday night. Great good (try the Duck, new to menu), and great service ( they were super busy and we still felt very taken care of). Looking forward to our next visit.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall, a very intimate,Overall, a very intimate, pleasant place with very good food. BYOB makes it even better IMO.
Some had the entre of lamb....mine was cooked just the way I asked. Lots of seed mustard as a "crust". Two people had the rabbit and it was very good--in a mustard cream sauce (maybe it is just my imagination, but it seems a bit too big for rabbit and the meat a bit too white...more like chicken? Probably just my imagination). The desserts however, were disappointing, IMO.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, needs better serviceGreat food! Service so-so seems too be amateur ran4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGerat nightGreat dining experience. All 6 of us really enjoyed. Food, ambience and service all good!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMalways a great choiceAs always, a great evening. We were seated in the "farmhouse" (annex) and everything was first rate. We had filet, poisson and duck, appetizers and dessert. Will definitely return.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSpring Mill CafeBest Place Ever....we love the atmosphere, the employee's, the owners and the Food is always exceptional.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous restaurant. ImpeccableFabulous restaurant. Impeccable service, delicious food, lovely atmosphere. A favorite.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA very romantic spot and alsoA very romantic spot and also very French. It is dependable but the menu also evolves. They are also quite socially conscious which is nice.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOur small birthday group celebratedOur small birthday group celebrated here recently. Food is delicious and prepared to order. I didn't rank it 5 stars because portions are small for a bigger male appetite. It was fine for us ladies! Ambiance is rustic country, service was great however we were one of only three tables filled this night. I would not suggest Spring Mill as an eating out venue as the cafe is right on an uphill rise and trucks were shifting loudly to get up the hill along with cars and motorcycles going by. Otherwise,a wonderful BYOB spot.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectIn an era where every restaurant seems to have as its greatest priority, the loudest possible ambiance where no conversation whatsoever is possible, Spring Mill Cafe remains a lovely temple to fine food. I took a dear friend from France to lunch... he was enthralled with the location - the little stream behind the restaurant, the old house itself - saying that it felt like the French countryside. All good! BUT, it was the rabbit, amazingly tender, enrobed in a marvelous mustardy cream sauce over tagliatelle noodles that sealed the deal. I can't wait to return... because restaurants like this - where one can enjoy beautiful food AND actually discuss the food while enjoying it - are becoming fewer and fewer.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat little restaurant tuckedGreat little restaurant tucked into the woods. Very small so be prepared to sit close to others. I've heard outside dining is nice here but it's been too cold each time I've visited. Love the BYOB!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful dinnerWe had a wonderful dinner in celebration of a birthday! I loved being called "madame" which made us all feel like we were in Paris. The wait staff couldn't have been more attentive and made suggestions that were right on target! I will definately go back...oh, and the dafodill cake brought to the birthday girl with a candle was the cherry on top!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about this mealEverything about this meal was perfect! From the perfectly composed cheese plate through the delicious fish dishes (the Skate Meunière and the Mediterranean poisson du jour) and the side of sautéed kale to the Daffodil cake (angel food) and chocolate mousse. We have been coming here for years. Perfection!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
