Nice ambiance and a really attentive waiter w/ great personality. Quiet--but this restaurant makes the mistake of packing everyone in one corner too close together when the rest of the restaurant was empty...so you could hear EVERYTHING your neighbors were saying at the table a foot on either side of you. Trout was a bit dry, but with a nice crust. Skirt steak was a bit gamey. Desert was great and made in house. Wine list was extensive, martini was not chilled enough and a little stingy in the glass. Decor was nice--tho use that fire place on a cool evening! Outdoor area nice too--tho you are sitting in a parking lot. I would give them a 2nd chance .

My husband still remembers the trout he had on our first visit and it was still on the menu and still just as good. My lamb shank was huge, but it had the same brown gravy that the meatloaf dish had. Not exactly what I'm used to with lamb. Truffle fries are addicting

You won't be disappointed with a meal at the Spotted Dog! The menu is filled with many delicious choices. We had the meatloaf (a popular choice, which was outstanding) and the trout (also outstanding). Both entrée portions were plentiful, surprising for such a gourmet restaurant where portions tend to be small. We heard that the lamb shank is also popular. The beet blue cheese walnut salad and the French onion soup were also excellent. Our server (who's been here for 14 years!) was Chencho, and he made you feel welcome and comfortable. The ambience of the place is very soothing, as the walls are filled with great artwork, some of it by famed Utah landscape artist Jim Jones. Every time we've had a meal here, we have not been disappointed.

The ambience in the restaurant was lovely. The view was spectacular. The food was OK. My dish was fairly bland. My husband liked his flatiron steak. The truffle fries were good. The creme brûlée was really good. I would go back and try something else just for the view.

As my boyfriend eats mostly fish and chicken and I enjoy the occasional meal of red meat, I felt the menu here provided choices for both of us. He had the red trout and I had flank steak with the truffle fries. Our table mates next to us shared with us some of the mixed mushroom appetizer that was not only enormous but delicious! I would recommend this restaurant to those who enjoy a good meal in a lovely ambiance.

Springdale is not a mecca of culinary delights, so compared to the competition the Spotted Dog appears to be one of the better choices in town. Dinner on the front deck watching the sunset on the mountains was one of its best advantages. This place came very highly recommended to me by foodies, so others have had a better experience with the food than we did. It wasn't bad, just not up to the stellar reviews I'd heard about it. It is end of season, so maybe they did not have their ace staff in the kitchen. I would definitely try it again on my next visit.

Typical Utah wannabe good that misses the mark. The lamb shank was off and the vegieswoefully under steamed. The service was OK, but all in all the only reason to eat here is beacause there are so few choices in Springdale.

This is one of those places you love to bring friends and families from out of town to show the awesome choices for great dining in Southern Utah. Always creative dishes and a friendly professional staff. Since we used Open Table we could discuss how long we wanted to visit the art galleries compared to when a table would be available. Spotted Dog was a great ending to fantastic day!

If you can catch a table outdoor you get a perfect look on the beautiful area. This is the huge plus of this restaurant. Other than that nothing special! I made a reservation 1 week ahead for outdoor seating. When we arrived they told us, that we have to wait, eventough we made a reservation. "First come first serve" ... So why do they accept reservations?!?! Food was okay, service good.

Only real fine dining in the area and definitely the best value for the dollar. We ate there twice and everything, with one notable exception, was outstanding. I'm not a fan of the "house bread" which to me is akin to a flour tortilla in square strips, accompanied by a sharp "Heinz 57" dipping sauce. Different, yes. Better than sourdough or a classic baguette? Not to my taste.

Our requests for a quieter room and split bills were accommodated. Service was attentive and unrushed. The food was very good, especially the pear filled pasta pillows. My only gripe is that I think it's a bit presumptuous for the the restaurant to add a 20% gratuity to the bill. Perhaps, because it's right outside Zion NP, many Europeans dine there? Adding an automatic gratuity is a turn off, but I would return.

My wife and I enjoyed an excellent meal on the outdoor dining area of the Spotted Dog. I had the duck special which was excellent, and she enjoyed the trout. The wine list was extensive, and the by glass offerings were terrific. Prices were reasonable given the quality of the food and the ambiance. We look forward to our next visit to the area and will make a point to eat here again.

We stayed at the hotel attached to the restaurant, so eating the daily breakfast was an easy choice. It was nothing special for brunch, but it was freshly made and tasted great. The price couldn't be beat. There were options for the dairy and gluten free eater as well. Our dinner at the restaurant was much more interesting. We both had steaks which we found delicious. OUr server was very friendly and eagerly made accommodations to my husbands dietary needs. I would definitely visit the Spotted Dog again. The view from some of the windows or outdoor spots is breathtaking!

We rewarded ourselves after a strenuous day of hiking. The food was delicious, nicely plated, the portions generous. We had the sauteed mushroom appetizer (a bowl of a variety of mushroom), the soup de jour (a vegetable soup,) the red trout, and the lamb shank. I like that the restaurant uses local foods and suppliers. The only downers were our barely knowledgeable or interested waiter. (We saw more of the friendly, competent manager.) We sat inside because all the outside tables were taken. Still a pretty room and would be exceptionally charming with the lit fireplace during the colder months. All in all a very nice experience.

This place is everything you could ask for in a restaurant for dinner on a southwestern vacation. The food and service are awesome. The view is "The Watchman" in Zion NP. We were here for dinner on our first and last nights of vacation. What a great experience. We both highly recommend the trout (some of the best fish ever) and the "Outlaw Red" wine. This is a must do for any trip to Zion.

Spotted Dog Cafe was recommended by some locals so we decided to give it a try and were we ever happy we did. First, it is located near the Zion Park entrance and is a stop on the local free shuttle that runs through Springdale so it is easy to get to and from. Second, it is located on the west side of the street so it gets shad from the mountain behind it starting around 4:30pm which makes it great to eat outside after a hot day of hiking. The wait staff was excellent, being prompt, responsive, attentive and courteous. The food was freshly prepared and the wine list was very nice for being in a wilderness/national park area. Highly recommend if you are in Springdale, UT at Zion National Park south end.

When i arrived for breakfast it turned out to be buffet only. I was initially disappointed but I stumbled across their fruit portion. They had some amazingly fresh local fruits that were absolutely fantastic. I prepared myself a nice fruit, yogurt, nut parfait. It was just the thing to start my morning out in Zion. I also had some random bites of bacon, sausage, and biscuit with gravy. They were all fine just not my favorite, bacon was the best of the rest of the buffet.

Did not expect to find gourmet food right outside of Zion National Park! Amazing view, delightful and attentive service by Anthony, and delicious locally produced food expertly prepared by chef! Decided to try appetizer specials -wild mushroom soup and heirloom tomato caprese salad-both were fresh and tasty! In addition we had a smoked trout appetizer to share- also from local area. The hearty entrees of braised lamb shank and buffalo and elk meatloaf were excellent choices. Almost made us skip dessert - but we couldn't resist sharing an exceptional Creme Brûlée - great vanilla flavor. Dinner was washed down by the featured house label Cabernet and the Ramy Chardonnay from the noted wine list!
