Diner Reviews
  • "For our second visit I have tasted the trout .... The fish was dry dry and dry ...."

  • "I have been to many restaurants in Springdale and Spotted Dog is among the best. The staff suggested we sit inside due to pending thunderstorm. The rain arrived about 20 min. later so we had a nice inside table with great view of the surrounding hills. I started with the Beet and Blue Cheese Salad. The quality of the ingredients was top notch. I then had the Gourmet Game Meatloaf which was great with a unique flavor due to the mixture of meats. The vegetables were done perfectly with a surprising mild curry flavor. Our server was attentive but not intrusive as we enjoyed our meal. The only complaint was my wife ordered a medium rare steak which had to be sent back as it arrived very rare. I highly recommend this place"

  • "Beautiful outdoor dining with great food and beautiful views of Zion National Park."

  • "Perfect evening for outside dining with amazing sunset views of zion mountains. Humming birds also a treat to watch. Inside was beautifully set as well. Our food was hit and miss. Steak was served well done when we asked for medium. The tomato spicy soup was delicious and unique as was the homemade tasting hummus. Service a bit off perhaps the individual waiter."

  • "One of the best restaurants in Springdale, Utah. We celebrated my brother' anniversary there and it was very memorable. Staff and service were excellent."

  • "I had a special evening planned for a birthday surprise dinner. I asked for a special booth/table and a dessert to be served and none of it happened. My previous requests went ignored. The drinks from the bar were terrible. We ordered a lemon drop and a cosmo martini's. The lemon drop was made with sweet and sour and when I told our server that it was just vodka - he said well do you want a lemon wedge. LIKE REALLY? Then the cosmo had a sugar rim on it. Both drinks were terrible and the waiter was not cognizant of us after we complained about the drinks being terrible. After the manager served our meals, we were never asked how our food was. The only good things about the place is the view and the pesto penne pasta. Nothing else."

  • "Finding great food and drinks was definitely unexpected in the middle of nowhere Utah. Quite a good value. The view is probably unmatched anywhere."

  • "Don't let the casual name fool you. If you have been hiking all day and want a quick simple meal your in the wrong place. Good wine list , casual but more for adults and kids who are use to eating at finer restaurants. Nice ambiance. Fairly priced in comparison to surrounding restaurants. Nicely done, not superb, but was a welcome meal after all the local hamburgers, pizza etc."

  • "If you are looking for a upper scale spot with comfortable seating and a nice view in the area, then Spotted Dog is your kind of place. The food was decent and nicely presented. The flavors are mild (surprisingly light on salt, which is nice). Smoked trout appetizer was good; pear 'pillow' pasta was creative; wild meat loaf was okay (however, I didn't like the cumin in it). I do want to point out that service seems to be good - it was just unfortunate that our server had no energy and didn't want to be there at all."

  • "We were very disappointed to find out we weren't able to bring an old bottle of wine, that we were saving for our 27th wedding anniversary, into the Spotted Dog. We were informed that it is illegal to bring a decanted bottle of wine into a restaurant in the state of Utah. After some research, this is not illegal in the state of Utah. Although our entrees were cooked perfectly, the chicken was very very salty."

  • "During our two night stay at the Flanigan's Inn the obvious choice for dinning was the spotted dog café. With a splendid service, great menu, (special) wines from all over the world for the wine lover and a breath taking view on Zions canyon walls. Oh I forget to mention the lovely humming birds who visit the spotted dogs special feeding places in nice but none disturbing numbers. The service during both our visits was optimum and so was the food. A great menu to choose from, with some outstanding dishes. If coming back to Zion, the Flanigan's Inn and the Spotted dog café will be the first choice! Ewald & Saskia from the Netherlands"

  • "It is hard to find decent food around some national parks, but if you're going to Zion, this is the best restaurant in Springdale, Utah."

  • "Food was excellent, somewhat pricey but not as expensive as it could have been for a tourist area. View window is amazing, cheesecake was good. Meatloaf was wild meats and excellent. Service was not great and server charged us 20% gratuity for splitting a check between 3 people, without telling us in advance. "

  • "The food was excellent and the service was very good. The scenery out the windows is so dramatic too."

  • "The Spotted Dog was highly rated on TripAdvisor and it was close to our hotel. We were looking for a "nicer" place in Springdale that went beyond the pizza/burger place. What a gem we found. The back patio was off the street and very quiet and peaceful. We had pasta dishes that were excellent, both recommended by our waitress. Overall, the Spotted Dog was a wonderful experience, we highly recommended it!!"

  • "I've been there twice. The first time I was unimpressed with my dinner, but I had never had lamb shank before, so it may have been fine and I just don't care for lamb shank. The food on the second visit was much better. We sat in the back room on the first visit and the sun coming through the windows was so blinding I had to change my seat. I noticed other diners had the same problem. "

  • "There was a fun vibe at the Spotted Dog. The crowd was mostly hikers and outdoor lovers as told by their casual clothes. The patio was the first choice to sit and full so request when making reservations. Dinner was very good. Two of us ordered trout and one ordered the pasta purses. We had to send back the pasta because it was not hot. Our server took it back with apologies and had it back to us in no time at all. The wine selection was good and the wine our server recommended was wonderful."

  • " Have visited the Spotted Dog a few times previously and have never been disappointed. Recommend the rear outside tables as the other is near the road. The view of Zion across the road is awesome. This last visit was to celebrate a birthday and as usual was not disappointed. The lamb shank and mushrooms are our favorite.Chencho was a very good attentive waiter. We recommend Spotted Dog to all our friends in Cedar City, Utah. It is definitely worth the drive. Excellent place to visit after spending a full day touring one amazing g National Park."

  • "We just had some of the most amazing service/food ever. Chencho, Libby, Arturo and the crew are absolutely wonderful. Very attentive to your needs. I would recommend this establishment to anyone who enjoys superb food and service both for breakfast/dinner. Very affordable breakfast buffet. You will not be disappointed. 5 STAR."

  • "AFter a hard day of trail riding and hiking in Zion National Park, we cleaned up and headed to the Spotted Dog based on Tripadvisor ratings. It was just perfect: great food, particularly the mushroom appetizer and the purse pasta, nice drinks, pleasant ambience and incredible view. I recommend it highly."

  • "This place is in a tremendous spot and the physical structure is very nice - great windows on a beautiful view. Nicely decorated with local plants. But my wife and I both got dinner salads which were totally ordinary - the kind you make at home when you are using whatever's been washed and is already in the frig. And the wait - for salads! - was quite long. "

  • "We ate at the Spotted Dog with a group of friends. Our waiter Anthony was one of the best waiters I have ever encountered and I eat out at a lot of high end restaurants. The food was excellent, the recommendations were spot on and the chicken breast and pursed pasta were definitely as succulent and flavourful as reported. We came back 3 days later since we could not find any other restaurants with the Spotted Dogs mix of food, service and ambiance."

  • "We made a reservation for a Saturday evening, and glad we did as it was busy. We were seated immediately at a nice table near the fire. Had a fantastic meal, the trout was superb and the chicken delicious. Loved the fresh vegetables, which were not overcooked. Highly recommend."

  • "Best restaurant in Springdale. We ate there twice and I had the game meatloaf and the lamb shank. Both were well prepared and quite flavorful; as was the smoked trout app. Service couldn't have been better."

  • "Dieservation on-line literally an hour and a half prior to our desired reservation time on, arguably, one of the busiest nights of the season---and it worked out impeccably. So many good things about this little restautant/café: menu options, wine list, service...definite "go to" place when visiting Zion! "

  • "Sprindale UT restaurants seem to cater to the families and outdoors people visiting Zion National Park. Flanigan's Spotted Dog is a cut higher in comfort, wine options, and food quality. A whole artichoke appetizer and a crushed pepita crusted red trout main dish were both excellent. Some refined relaxation after a day of pounding the trails and taking in the grandeur of Zion. "

  • "Have eaten here about 15 times before. This is the first time that I have had a bad meal. My choice was lamb shank. It was unfortunately very dry, so much so, that I could not eat it. At the end of the meal the restaurant did not charge me for the lamb. My dinner date's meal was good. I however went home hungry. Since then I have had three other meals at the Spotted Dog and they have all been good. As a side note, the carrots were covered in a cumin sauce. I don't particularly like cumin and certainly don't like having vegetables covered in cumin. You should be given a choice. "

  • "Love the idea of what this restaurant is trying to be and accomplish, just isn't yet or wasn't the night I was there. extensive wine offerings, thoughtful atmosphere complete with linen table cloths, and the servers are in ties and polite but not super knowledgeable about the food, the wine or service. it was all just kind of lost in translation. but everyone seems to rave about the breakfast buffet."

  • "Three of us had just returned from a 2-day, nearly 20-mile hike in Zion. We were excited about a great meal and a good drink. We got both, plus a bonus of a fabulous view of some of the canyon at sunset. We could not have been more pleased. The Mushroom appetizer was simply out of this world. Wine selection was great. Service very attentive. All in all - I highly recommend and will definitely be back!"

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Spotted Dog Cafe. From the mushroom appetizer to the lemon torte dessert, it was evident that the recipes used were not typically found in a lot of restaurants. The three types of sauteed mushrooms were flavored with garlic and red pepper and quite delicious. We had the lamb shank entree which was flavorful and perfectly tender with the red wine preparation. Alongside the lamb was a side dish of carrots flavored with cumin and brown sugar - I'd love to have that recipe. The final unique dish was the lemon torte dessert. It was lemon pound cake filled with sweetened mascarpone and a crumb topping - like in crumb cake - pressed into the icing. Very unusual and delicious."

  • "I chose The Spotted Dog for a special family dinner. The service was almost flawless, the food was delicious, notably the sauteed mushroom appetizer. The wine list is most likely Springdale's best and the manager was kind to suggest a bottle that went beautifully with our appetizers. This spot is great for casual dining and special occasions as well."

  • "Basically it was a 6 out of 10. I ordered the spaghetti pomodoro. It was fine but not delicious. My husbands trout was over cooked. The best thing about the dinner was the artichoke. The tequila shots were tiny. I wondered if the waiter had spilled them on the way to the table! I ordered a salad with my entree but the waiter forgot to bring it out. My daughter ordered a milk which they also forgot to bring. I had expected more out of this restaurant and I was disappointed."

  • "The Spotted Dog more than lived up to its reputation for the finest dining in Springdale, Utah, just outside the borders of Zion National Park. The chicken mornay was tender and delicious, especially from its succulent sauce, the service was impeccable, and the creme brulee was among the very best this side of Paris. Highly recommended."
