We started with the Beef carpaccio which I would not get again. It did not taste fresh and the carpaccio stuck to the plate. It seemed like it had been pre-pepared several hours before, had glad wrap put over the plate, and thrown into the fridge ready to be served. Luckily we had mains to follow, the bolognese and the braised rabbit pasta, both were superb and would definitely go back especially for them. The Coconut Cake is a definite must for dessert. I did not find the wine list friendly at all, normally I can pick a few that I recognize and know, and the waiter kept suggesting the pricier wines. Overall, we had a great main meal and dessert which is what we went for. We ended up choosing a delicious, reasonably priced wine and a had a great time.

We wanted a casual but fine early dinner before heading to an event, and Sportello surpassed our expectations. The food was great, was served quickly, and the service was excellent. Our server was really tuned in to gluten free (in terms of awareness) and the gluten free offerings were ample, even on a smallish menu. That was a welcome plus. It has a sophisticated, fun, casual vibe. While we were glad to be seated at a table, we'll try sitting at the counter next time.

in addition to the counter there are now a couple of window tables. Sportello has the best tagliatelli bolognese ever. I enjoyed the squash salad, except that some cubes of squash were undercooked and very hard. Enough of the dish was succulent, and the portion was more than adequate. The pasta was as delicious as ever, and the portion size larger than what used to be served, which, even for one with a modest appetite, used to seem almost a se. Deserts were less wonderful. Coconut cake was good but not special; chocolate panna cotta was very cold and hard -- likely over-chilled. Coffee was excellent.

Great meal as always. The menu is not large but the food is very creative and well prepared. However a couple of gripes: a few more aperitifs and some cocktail offerings would have been good. The wine list is interesting with many Italian wines, a few priced reasonably. However if you pay that much for wine it would be nice to have proper wine glasses. The glasses do not have stems. The red wine glass is very big and difficult to handle unless you have big hands or use two! Not very elegant. The white wine glass is more manageable but I prefer a glass with a stem. A good evening overall and I will go back!

Sportello has great atmosphere and terrific service. The bar seating arrangement is very interesting and makes you feel very attached to the kitchen. This also helps the waitstaff to always be in front of you and you are very well taken care of. Our server went out of her way to make sure we had the perfect wine with dinner. Unfortunately, the food did not raise to the same level as the other elements. The house-made pasta is good, but both dishes we ordered were incredibly salty. I think Sportello is worth a try for the scene and eating there makes it easier to get into Drink (trendy bar downstairs), but the food could be better.

There's a phrase that lawyers like to use when they become barristers. They say, a bit pompously, they were "called to the bar". Well, now I've also been called to a bar, the one at Sportello. How to describe this place? Effortlessly good italian food, made of fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced and cooked. A friendly communal dining experience at a schmick marble bar. Friendly inked waitress who knew how to have a conversation without being obsequious or overly solicitous. An interesting wine list, though I wouldn't go so far as to call it cheap. I've been in Boston seven weeks and have been dining out most nights. This is clearly the best place I've been to.

The seating is designed such with a counter "diner" look and feel. The downside to this is the cramped feeling you get when seated next to anyone. Not only are they in your space they are breathing all over you and your food. Complicating the evening was the loud mouth over bearing little twit that felt the entire restaurant wanted to hear every last word of his trivial life , well I didn't and for no fault of sportelloi just could not wait to leave.

Longtime residents of Fort Point and only occasional diners at Sportello. Another visit with friends proved what we experience and hope will change - arrogant waiter (seriously too cool to provide service... c'mon!) never-changing menu, great tagliatelle, too pricey and rushed. Realize it's a diner but in and out in 40 minutes at that price?? With the amazing places in our neighborhood won't be back this time. Fool me once... fill me uh... every other time :(

The set up is cool and the service was great. Food was not bad, but also not anything special; a boring cheese plate with plain nuts (could've spiced the nuts or something). Gnocchi was pretty good, nothing crazy, pretty standard. The pork dish sounded awesome in its description, but didn't live up to it. I think this place has great potential, their menu sounds real good in theory, but then the dishes don't pack any punch. I would rather try something that I didn't like but was at least interesting tasting, versus this experience where the food was kind of blah. Keep working the menu and it could be great.

Went to Spotello because it was on Boston Eater list list of essential restaurants and was very underwhelmed. Maybe it was an off night for the "A team" in the kitchen, but my arugula salad had so much dressing on it I could barely eat it, and my bolognese was bland. Needless to say, I'm not chomping at the bit to go back.

This is a great restaurant if you are looking for delicious pasta dishes in a more casual "diner type" set-up restaurant. We were a group of three, so they sat us at a corner of bar so we could all talk. We enjoyed the food, and the service was very good. Just be aware that you are unlikely to be seated at a table unless you are a group of 5+.

The portions were embarrassingly small. I travel to Puglia, Italy every summer and considering this dish is indigenous to that part of Italy I know a thing or two about how it is served. Sportello literally put a few spoonfuls of the creamy whey on a plate. Shameful for $16. The tagliatelle were cooked perfectly but far too much bolognese ragu for the amount of pasta. The carpaccio was sliced so thin We could barely lift it from the serving dish on to our plates without it breaking apart. Not as authentic as I thought it would be.

The food and service were excellent - no complaints there. The counter seating is unique, although the chairs were very uncomfortable. The food came out very quick, so maybe the goal is to keep patrons from lingering too long? In the end, we went downstairs to Drink for after dinner cocktails, so I'd call that a win-win for both us and the restaurant.

I ordered the Strozzapreti and my boyfriend ordered the Tagliatelle, and we shared the burrata for an appetizer. The braised rabbit on the Strozzapreti was extremely tender and tasty, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. The tagliatelle was also delicious; the bolognese was the favorite of the night with a great balance of flavors. The burrata was light and refreshing.
