Spoonbar Chef Louis Maldonado serves a menu of clean and simple dishes honoring America’s diverse culinary influences. His artfully-crafted, market-driven cuisine of fresh, bold flavors is built around seasonally-inspired local and sustainable ingredients. The same focus carries over to Spoonbar’s cocktails which use specially sourced organically-grown herbs, fruits and vegetables with an emphasis on locally and domestically produced spirits.

Freeform tables made from reclaimed acacia surround a long, communal table crafted from a split tree. Splashes of color—from the turquoise Eames chairs to the golden floral three dimensional wall art—brighten the open space like dappled sunshine filtering through summer leaves. On warm days and evenings the restaurant’s Cantina doors open up to sidewalk dining.

  • "Ok, so he didn't win, but Chef Louis Maldonado has put Spoonbar back on top. Service is friendly and attentive. Food is inventive and delicious. Portions are ample, but veggies and sides are extra, so pick one to round out the meal. Corn pudding is so intense - get whatever he is serving it with. Desserts are excellent and interesting. Mostly local wine list - which is great because some really excellent and well-priced wines are from this area."

  • "If you're in Healdsburg, I highly recommend trying Spoonbar in the h2hotel. Unlike other hotel restaurants, this one has a menu with unique dishes and surprising preparations. For example, there are chicken cracklings on the menu. Yes, that's what you think it is--deep fried chicken skin. It doesn't sound like it would be good, but it is--although I can't imagine it is the healthiest item on the menu. We also had the pork riblets with salted plum glaze and they were so tender and flavorful that I could have eaten another order. But we saved room for the BBQ glazed flounder on a bed of corn pudding, savoy cabbage, scallions & sunflower seeds. This dish was amazing!! I'd drive all the way back to Healdsburg just to have it again."

  • "We had a hard time choosing from the extensive cocktail menu to start, because so many of them were unique and looked great! The wine list and dinner menu are much more limited, but we felt like we couldn't go wrong with any of the choices. Food was fantastic, and everyone speaks so highly of the Spoonbar in the area. It's a place for locals and tourists alike. If you stay at the hotel, you'll find their (included) breakfast to be as creative and interesting, and of the same caliber. Great spot!"

  • "After a great dining experience the night before, at Dry Creek Kitchen, we expected the same at SpoonBar but were disappointed. Both our main courses left something to be desired. My wife's stuffed lamb was not to her liking. My roasted beef rib was too fatty. The salads were terrific. Service was excellent and the wine list was very good. I guess that next time, we'll try the seafood."

  • "I really enjoyed my main dish, beef rib on a bed of faro with radishes, because of the unique flavor medley. I wouldn't usually cook or hope to have radishes in a dish, but they definitely added to the dish and made it something my palate will remember for a long time. The reason I rated food & overall lower than 5 stars was because one of our guests had a cold main plate. She sent it back to the kitchen, which made for a bit of an awkward situation. We wanted to eat our mains while they were still fairly warm, as to not wind up in the same situation as her, but it was weird to have her sit and watch us eat. I thought it was also strange that this happened with her food because the restaurant wasn't very crowded. It was a Thursday evening."

  • "Chef Maldonado's layers of flavors keeps you hungry for more. We have visited multiple times, the food is consistent, the staff extremely professional and the prices are very reasonable. We loved everything, especially the bread, potatoes, wings, salads and dinner and desserts were great! Mixed drinks are great, loved the Sleeping Beauty. Even the bag of granola you get to take home is good. Definitely recommend!"

  • "A first visit by locals who will return for another sampling in this casual and cool room. The front is open to Healdsburg Avenue and quite noisy. The quiet back overlooks a small garden. The menu is short but easy to navigate and full of interesting choices. We shared a hearty wheat toast with pecorino and the delicate snow & snap peas with grapefruit. We had the fish flight - samplings of 5 sashimi style selections. It was delicate and satisfying, but one of them was glaringly spicy The pork loin with couscous and curry combined moist slices of pork with a pudding of shredded pork and chanterelles. All choices combined unusual flavors and textures with skill. Staff recommended a great bottle of white to complement our selections."

  • "Spoon Bar is casually elegant. The food and flavors were interesting and delicious. The service was excellent. The cocktails were handcrafted and also very delicious. I would note that the portions are smaller. We did not do the tasting menu rather ordered a la carte so we could try more of a variety from the menu. We ordered the chicken wings for appetizer (knowing that they would be upscale) they were in fAct quite delicious but there were only 4! A little disappointing! I do recommend dinning here it's a great spot."

  • "I have to admit we were expecting better. The fish crudo tasting plate (5 preparations of very fresh fish) was very good, but the small plates beforehand and the flounder entree were just OK. Not bad, just nothing we'd come back for. The pistachio dessert was a bit too sweet for our taste. We did enjoy the lime/cucumber popsicle surprise at the end, however. The servers were friendly, the service was fine, and the manager came by several times to check on us."

  • "For an adventure in pretentiousness, an evening at Spoonbar provided us with laughs throughout the meal. From abuse of language in the menu to over salted mains, I won't return to Spoonbar. I think I liked it better when there was a gas station on the property."

  • "We were staying at H2hotel and decided to eat at Spoonbar. We were very underwhelmed with our experience. We started off with a cocktail at the bar, which was great. We should've sat here and had small plates. Instead, we stuck to our reservation and were sat at our table. Our service was slow which was surprising considering the restaurant couldn't have been over 25% full. We ordered a 3 apps (the snap pea app was good, as was the bread. We didn't enjoy the beet app). I got the beef entrée (nothing noteworthy) and my fiancé had the lamb ribeye (would not recommend). Our bill was around $150, which is pretty typical dining bill for us, but not worth it considering our experience."

  • "This place is great.each time we come the menu has a few different items on it.We usually order about 5-6 dishes and split them. The sopes with goat cheese and radish were great as was the latest version of the Chef Flight of seafood which included the mysterious native clam of Washington State - Geoduck.The marinated cucumber and baby beets were quite tasty as well.Be sure to try some of the cocktails - they are excellent as well.We have tried several of the nicer restaurants in Healdsburg and this is our favorite."

  • "The service was excellent. Broccolini with quinoa was outstanding, as well as the chicken dish. We also enjoyed the citrus avocado salad. The only dish we weren't thrilled over was the lamb rib eye, which had way too much fat for us, however the flavors were inventive. All of the dishes had their own unique flair, with unique ingredients you don't normally find. We were trying to 'guess' some of the ingredients and were pleasantly surprised. The only thing we thought was a distraction was the funky furniture and hotel guests using the restaurant as a walkthrough to the pool, in swimsuits and towels."

  • "I planned my husband's sixtieth birthday dinner for eight people at Spoonbar. We were delighted with a tasty four course meal. Each course had three different unique plates. So in total we sampled twelve delicious choices. The service was truly outstanding. Very attentive to all our needs. Overall we had an excellent experience!"

  • "This was our fourth or fifth time having dinner here, and it was as good as ever. They presented us with a Chef's prix fixe menu but we chose instead to order from their regular menu. Every choice we made was remarkable. We enjoyed the broccolini vegetable dish (with shaved cauliflower, olives and baby kale) so much that we ordered a second one. Chicken roulade is so good that it completely transforms the notion of having chicken for dinner. The bar is creative and sensible in their combinations rendering cocktails that are a different take on some of one's old favorites, but oh so good."

So on a return trip opted to dine...certain wait staff were lovely...but got the feeling we were imposing when we asked for the "wine pairing chef tasting menu option " for all of us.so don't give us that menu with those options if there is a possibility its too late to serve it. I think we all thought we should have stayed in the bar where the staff were friendly and delightful...just sayin'"

  • "We have been here several times and it is GREAT.They have awesome house recipe cocktails like the Mad Hattan,Sleeping Beauty (did not make us sleep however) and the dessert cocktail Lavender Club.This time we had the Thai Boudin and broccolini which were both excellent.The Chef's Flight of seafood was stupendous each of the five helpings of seafood come in two bite sizes - perfect for sharing.The King Salmon and Ribeye were both excellent as well.Great place for sharing.Keep it up!"

  • "we sat in front room which is open to the air. Sitting in this rom was like sitting in the garden. tables spaced apart for privacy. food portions were small but enough for me. Presenttion was great aand food was delicious! There were so many people waiting on us that we felt like royalty."

We had made a reservation well in advance of our trip but perhaps had not done our research or would know how we would feel after a day in the wine country. This restaurant was not what we wanted that particular evening. The menu is very fancy and gourmet. Sometimes we are up for that but this night we wanted a hamburger. We had a glass of wine and a couple of appetizers and went down the street."

  • "Our wait person was wonderful, attentive, more than prompt with our meal, helping us keep track of time to get to our performance. Food is over the top, tortured in the sense of everything being highly stylized, ingredients are exotic, uber special, and then grated, pummeled, spun, whisked, emulsified, served with other ingredients similarly adorned and possibly disguised. All of it delicious, highly refined and quite a bit too precious for this rustic diner. Recommend it highly if slightly pretentious is your thing. And the drinks are fun and yummy."

  • "Spoonbar recently appeared on the SF Chronicle's Top 100 Restaurants list. We have had cocktails there several times over the past few years, but never stayed beyond drinks. My wife and I recently spent a night in Healdsburg again, and decided to give Spoonbar a try for dinner. With soooo many good restaurants in town, it is difficult to make a choice but I guarantee you won't go wrong here! Cocktails are still good, the apps are very special, and the main courses were excellent. Everything is locally sourced and the chef makes the best of the season's bounty. Something for everyone, including vegans, vegetarians and carnies! I would definitely go back. Spoonbar is one of the top 5 restaurants in Healdsburg!"

  • "Chef Louis fulfills the promise he exhibited on Top Chef! His menu is creative; every bite delicious! The menu contains an amazing array of locally sourced ingredients put to excellent use by Chef. The restaurant is a contemporary vision, yet maintains a level of comfort usually missing from modern spaces. The service is impeccable; staff is knowledgeable, attentive, smiling, gave superb recommendations and paced our dinner perfectly. We spent a week in Napa and Sonoma counties, had many fabulous meals but Spoon Bar was truly the best! A gem in Healdsberg! Not to be missed!!!"

  • "My wife and I were up from San Francisco for our wedding. We stayed an additional night to relax and have a nice meal just the two of us at Spoonbar, which we’ve been looking forward to trying. Overall the food and the cocktails were great and definitely worth going back for, but only if we can have a different server. San Francisco has an amazing food scene, which we try on a regular basis; however, our waiter judged us as amateurs. When my southern wife asked him about an item on the menu, he concluded with saying that it included “creme fraiche, which is kind of like ranch”. We know what creme fraiche is, and it is not like ranch. He was also inattentive, and I had to pour my own wine throughout the dinner, a pet peeve of mine. "

  • "The food was relatively bland - certainly not worth the price. With all the good restaurants in the Bay Area, this one needs to step it up. The atmosphere is fabulous though. Our services was very slow; we had to ask three times to get my husband's drink (which we received 40 minutes after the first time we asked) and the server forgot the appetizer, so an hour after ordering it we had to ask about that too. All told, we were very disappointed."

  • "We visit Sonoma Cty 3-4x/yr on multi-day visits; 55 different restaurants over the last 4 yrs (including Cyrus 2x). Spoon Bar is amazing, reminds us of Cyrus before it became stuffy and pretentious. Chef Maldonado has a deft hand with his seafood-oriented menu: light, elegant, and beautifully balanced. Black cod melted in the mouth but had a perfect crispy skin with great accompaniments. Salmon with chorizo wasn't overwhelmed by the sausage; a magnificent Columbia River filet (the best salmon next to Copper River). Desserts were perfection; a Flying Goat coffee & chocolate dessert was the best combo of these two flavors we've ever had in 45 yrs. Bravo, Chef! (And the service was very good too)"

  • "We have dined at Spoonbar probably a dozen times since it first opened. We always liked the concept, but the food and execution have gotten better and better. Now it is reliably one of the best restaurants in Healdsburg, in our view. The star of this meal was the avocado salad with mushrooms and gem lettuces. Both my husband and I had this dish (he wanted the carrots but they were out). This was a surprising and delicious combination. My husband had the black cod and I had the ocean trout for our next courses. Both were done with imagination. The beginning cocktails were excellent as well. We were not rushed and all was well timed. The service has always been first rate."

  • "I CANNOT believe this place made it into Bauer's Top 100 list. In short, the HUGE attitude (ego?) of the chef permeates everything in the restaurant. No food substitutions, despite there being practically NOTHING my celiac friend could eat. Could the chef leave off a sauce off the salmon? NO, he doesn't do that. Could the chef just emit one topping from a salad? NO, he doesn't do that either. Our server was sweet but the constant reminder that the chef only likes to do things his way or the highway in this day/age/location is shocking. NO eagerness to please, TOO stuck up/fussy. Like I said, the server was sweet but the drinks and food came out VERY slowly. If you like to have a good, fun & relaxing meal eat anywhere else."

Loved the open air setting, but never felt over-exposed. Really a gem in a town filled with top notch restaurants."
