A word from Spoonbar - h2hotel
Spoonbar Chef Louis Maldonado serves a menu of clean and simple dishes honoring America’s diverse culinary influences. His artfully-crafted, market-driven cuisine of fresh, bold flavors is built around seasonally-inspired local and sustainable ingredients. The same focus carries over to Spoonbar’s cocktails which use specially sourced organically-grown herbs, fruits and vegetables with an emphasis on locally and domestically produced spirits.

Freeform tables made from reclaimed acacia surround a long, communal table crafted from a split tree. Splashes of color—from the turquoise Eames chairs to the golden floral three dimensional wall art—brighten the open space like dappled sunshine filtering through summer leaves. On warm days and evenings the restaurant’s Cantina doors open up to sidewalk dining.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had the tasting menu. Very creative presentations and delicious food. Our waiter was from Paris and we enjoyed speaking French with him. The service was very attentive but non-obtrusive. Left feeling very satisfied but not stuffed."

  • "Loved the cocktails, I had the Moscow Mule and my husband had the Khaleesi, and we also liked the wine that came with our dinner. Everything was delicious."

  • "Had a great meal at spoon bar. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful. We ate on a warm day and all the doors and windows were open , really wonderful ambiance."

  • "The menu strikes one as somewhat eclectic.... But, just go with it. Smoked chicken terrine, fish flight, avacado salad, Korean BBQ short ribs and semifreddo were all terriific. Wonderful service. A great place to order dishes one at a time and share. Highly recommended."

  • "First, HBurg is great! And now we've discovered Spoonbar. We loved it! Delicious, and very hip looking. We couldn't figure out why the place wasn't packed. We'll be back, for sure."

  • "Everything about this evening was first rate! Lively and attentive wait staff, food prepared exquisitely, and served at a pace that was neither too rushed or too slow. Even though the room is large and with a high ceiling, it was possible to have a normal conversation. The manager stopped by several times to check on us and made us feel very special , inquiring about the food, service and our comfort. Best of all, we were seated at a window table - after making last minute reservations on a Friday night! Spoonbar is a worthy inclusion in the SF Chronicle's Top 100 list. I'll be back ASAP!"

  • "We selected the Chef's Tasting Menu with wine pairing. Most of the pairings werent effective, other than pairing the Gewurztraminer with a sauteed ocean trout. The food was good to very good. We had a flight of various fish preparations that mostly missed for me, the kampachi being the exception - it was outstanding. My favorite was the 3rd course - chicken bouillon with a soft poached egg, asparagus, herbs, and radishes. I would have enjoyed the dish more had there been more salad stuff to enjoy with the broth. The noise level in the restaurant was way too high for my taste. We were unfortunate enough to have been seated next to a table of ladies that I suspect had been wine tasting all day - a hazard of dining of wine country."

  • "Spoonbar is a great experience...with high energy at the street side bar and dinning, which is also street side when the large wooden and glass doors are pulled open! The decore is simple but stunning...a pleasent surprise, actually. The wait staff is friendly and prompt...while not bothersome. The food is unique in both flavors and presentation. Spoonbar is a unique experience and one not to be missed among Healdsburgs finer resturants."

  • "Ordered an appetizer with four parts. Waiter brought it out, explained three, left out one, and mixed up two of the three he explained. We ordered another appetizer, waiter was confused which one we were talking about, and we had to show him on the menu. Seemed unfamiliar with their menu. When that came out, the salsa verde was flavorless. Ordered our entrees. They brought me the wrong one. The waiter asked if we wanted dessert. We said no and asked for the bill. He went to get it, and instead came back with table settings saying he was bringing us a complementary dessert. Waited another 20 minutes after that for the bill. Generally a great spot. Monday was an unfortunate exception. Cocktails never miss though."

  • "Overall I liked the restaurant. If you are in the area it would be a good place to go have a drink at and it a bit. Perhaps, it doesn't deserve a drive from the Oakland. The food was tasty and unique. I did the tree curse meal and it was satisfying not filling. The drinks were great!"

  • "This restaurant has declined so much over the past 2 years since my first visit. Each experience gets worse. I think I'm done with SpoonBar given all of the other alternatives in Healdsburg that are much better in all 3 categories: food, service, ambiance."

  • "We have been visiting Spoonbar regularly for some time and thought that we would try the chef tasting menu with the wine pairing. The tasting menu was very good and the wine pairings perfect. While we were not starving at the end, we thought the the overall meal size was on the small side. Many small tastes of meat/seafood/vegies/eggs etc.,but, there were no starches. Small dabs of food over a couple of hours, while rich, just didn't satisfy. Overall, the tasting menu is good but not a good value and we will stick to the regular menu going forward."

  • "Healdsburg has so many good restaurants I realized I had no been to Spoonbar in a couple of years. It certainly won't take that long next time! The food is delicious and inventive. Since it was a nice night the bar was open to the street making for a festive vibe. And with the floor to ceiling windows, we could watch people stroll by. Service was spot on, and our server was delightful. A fun evening."

  • "Spoonbar takes itself too seriously. The decor is lovely and open, with modern design and lots of natural woods. It has terrific glass walls and a great patio area. Our server was young and poorly trained. He came by too often, and finished by screwing up the bill by overcharging us by 50%. While the appetizers were tasty, they were very froo-froo, so much so that we stick with appetizers and did not order any main dishes."

  • "My experience fell flat on many levels. We ordered cocktails then selected the 3-course pre-fix with optional wine paring. The salad came well before the cocktails, so we really didn't get tot experience it with the wine pairing. Our entree came then minutes later we were advised that the paired wine was not available. We were given three tastings of different wine choices and selected the Acorn Syrah. Once again, the wine did not arrive until after we'd finished the entree. The flavors in the salad and entrees were never developed leaving everything tasting bland. The sauce that came with the beef course was outstanding as were the desserts. The wait staff did a nice job other than the timing be so off."

  • "The menu read well, the service was good, but when the food arrived, there were some things that just fell flat. At this price point, execution of dishes shouldn't be an issue. The food wasn't awful, but there just wasn't anything that made me feel I had to come back and try what I didn't order this time. The Chicken Crackling and Flight of Fish was really really good though. Overall: it tasted like things were either over seasoned or under seasoned. It's worth checking out though if you haven't been."

  • "Every bite we took was creative and tastey! We had the tasting menu to give ourselves the opportunity to experience a lot of food in one visit. We really felt the food and service were top notch. Looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "I love great food and wonderful restaurants, but none of us at our table could find anything on the menu that we wanted to eat. It was so strangely over-inventive. We actually left and walked down to Willie's and had a great meal!"

  • "We were very disappointed in the food, service and ambience. The hosts kept coming around to the dining tables asking how everything was. They were hanging around looking nervous. The portions were small and the food was not worth the price. They seemed to be more interested in the "experience" than the food and service. The staff was rather haughty. They had a coat service, which was nice. They were too impressed with themselves."

  • "We enjoyed the whole experience. We liked the open space and feel of the restaurant. The meal was wonderful. The main courses were generous. We will definitely go back next time we are in town."

  • "food was very good. each course offered unique preparation and ingredients. the menu was well detailed and the server was very knowledgeable. our overall experience, however, went from prompt greeting and attentive service to long delays between courses and lost in a crowd as our waiter got very busy with other tables. I may go back, but definetly not on a busy weekend evening."

  • "I enjoyed really delicious scallops and my boyfriend had the crispy chicken roulade. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were balanced. I also enjoyed that they used lesser known ingredients including sunchoke and whole bergamot bulbs. I enjoy a romantic dinner where we aren't disturbed constantly, but we really thought we might have offended our server because she avoided our table long after our plates were clean. By the time we got the dessert menu we really wanted something chocolatey and decadent, but the chocolate cremeux just wasn't going to cut it. I wanted cake not pudding, so we went elsewhere."

  • "the food is always excellent, the drinks are fabulous. my waiter, jason, was somewhat overly enthusiastic and could have toned it down a bit ... i generally prefer to be treated like an adult dining out than a college pal of my waiter ... 'hi guys' is not an appropriate way to great 2 adult women."

  • "My husband booked a reservation online after viewing what he believed to be a "new" menu. We are locals so we were both excited to see "Finally" a new menu. The menu online at their site plus at opentable looked new, fresh and innovative. UNFORTUNATELY, at the restaurant it was the "OLD" menu that we had had many times and is not very good. We left after our drinks and to Mateo's. Please take the menu off the internet so other locals don't waste their time and the time of the fine staff at the restaurant. We will not be back!"

  • "The Rib of Eye was award winning, the service was excellent, and I couldn't have had a better valentines dinner experience. Also, the sommelier visited our table with each bottle on the wine pairing menu. He described his selection and the reasoning behind his choice. We were thrilled to taste each one and his passion for the wine was contagious. This experience made the wine far more enjoyable than it already was and was a really nice touch. Thank you!"

  • "Each dish was so unusual--interesting flavor combinations all presented beautifully. We dined mid week and it was somewhat quiet. The staff provided excellent friendly service. Wonderful spot for a birthday dinner. Other tables included a mom and adult daughter, a young couple with an infant, groups of friends and a single diner. All seemed to get the same great attention and service. The chef is a true artist."

  • "Good food but not worth the cost. I find that so many wine country restaurants suffer from a bit of a French Laundry-complex. They think they are just so farm-to-table, high-class, and hip that they can charge an arm and a leg for what amounts to about 10 decent bites of food. We did the chef's tasting menu and received 6 courses of just a bite or two each of good, not great food, for $75 each. Could we have ordered single apps and entrees for less? Yes. But they really gear the whole menu towards the tasting and I didn't see a single other table who DIDN'T go the same route. When the main "course" of a tasting menu is a 2 inch piece of just ok beef, something's wrong. It's unfortunate that this is such commonplace nowadays."

  • "Everything about this evening was memorable, from the attentive service headed by Laurent to the lovely touch at the end if our meal. Laurent presented each of us with a small packet of the house granola! Every step of the meal was beautifully orchestrated, with all plates arriving simultaneously. There was never any pressure and when we were undecided, the staff was very helpful about making suggestions. Most if us had a pork or lamb dish, but I chose the scallops. I wish there had been one it two more on the plate, as the portion was a bit skimpy. All in all, it was the best meal and ambience combo that I have had in Healdsburg in a ling time . I'll be back with my bike group in March, if not sooner!"

  • "Spoonbar has FABULOUS Cocktails!! Fresh, Tasty - will not disappoint!! Menu is limited but that is what is 'special' about it. Have to come with an open mind and ready to try different Flavors. Also big fan of the appearance of the food - always on 'design'. The food is artful! Always a pleasure. Waitstaff is plentiful!! Always someone coming by to clear, bring another cocktail - and a friendly chat. You never have to 'look' for someone - things are run very smoothly. I like the fact that if my cocktail is empty - I have someone immediately ready to take my next order. Love this place."

  • "We selected Spoonbar because my wife and I are foodies, love wine and saw the write up in Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Living in Sonoma we are fortunate to dine at many great restaurants. While Spoonbar has a cool vibe the menu is very limiting, the staff a bit on the abrupt side and the wine list subpar. I love creative cuisine and taking risks when I dine out. However, the menu selections were a bit odd and certainly not for the faint at heart. The menu and cocktail list is clever piece, however, extremely confusing to read and more like unwrapping a paper airplane than a menu. The wait staff are not helpful selling the chef's creations leaving the guest to feel lost and a bit overwhelmed. Keep in simple Spoonbar!"

  • "Good prices and great drinks. All the snacks were pretty yummy and at a great price, but the entrees (lamb, grits) were a little short on seasoning and balance. Service was a little clumsy, but no real issues. I'd still recommend checking this place out. It may just not have been their night."
