  • "My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Spoon. We started with salads that were delightfully fresh greens with dressings that complemented. Our entrees were the salmon and the lamb. Equally enjoyable, delicious and beautifully presented. Finished with a grilled pineapple dessert that was an exciting combination of tasty spices. Not overwhelming and served with coffee was just the perfect way to end dinner. Chose a nice glass of wine suggested by our server from the ample wine list. Terrific service by the pleasant and knowledgeable wait staff. Convenient & courteous valet park. Couldn't ask for more! This was our second dining experience at Spoon and we thoroughly enjoyed both times. Will return."

  • "Spoon is a great restaurant and a great value - hard to find anything comparable that is truly at this level of cuisine in Pittsburgh. We've been a number of times, and are never disappointed. My only nit this time is that the food seems to be getting fussier and not necessarily better. Everything was delicious however, and we always enjoy their interesting cocktail menu as well. If you haven't been, it is a must."

  • "It seems as if their cocktails have gotten skimpy. A martini glass that is slightly over half full looks more like half empty. The drinks with the large ice cube contained only a few sips of what was a rather good drink. The salads, as usual were great, however the chicken meatballs were bland with little flavor despite their interesting presentation. Three in our group had the chicken with the same reaction, it was just OK and was over salted. The duck duo was good but was a bit salty too. The ice cream trio was supposed to be fudge ripple, salted caramel and white chocolate. The fudge ripple was easy to identify but the other two scoops tasted like vanilla. There may have been a very faint chocolate taste but definitely no salted caramel."

  • "Spoon has yet to disappoint me. They have a decent wine list, their cocktails are well made and they even have some respectable craft beers from which discerning drinkers may choose. The food has always been delicious. I have, on occasion, had dishes here where the execution of a concept won out over refining flavor, but I cannot fault them for taking creative risks. I have been here twice with my vegan girlfriend, who throws herself at the mercy of the chef to cook something special in keeping with her dietary strictures. Each time, the kitchen has adroitly risen to the occasion, much to her delight. I also like other Pittsburgh fine dining options, some perhaps even better, but Spoon is worth keeping in the regular rotation."

  • "I've been to Spoon a number of times--its one of my favorites. This time it was with young adult relatives--they thought it was great as well. We had a bay scallop appetizer that was outstanding and a blue cheese soufflé, also good. I had duck two ways--didn't like the sausage part, but the breast was excellent. Other entrees of beef and cod were great. The chocolate dessert was terrific according to 3 out of 3 who had it. My pine able dessert was way too sweet."

  • "I found Spoon to be a very nice restaurant. One of the few places it is acceptable to eat at the bar with a date. Dim lighting helps set the mood, and some nice music playing in the background. The prices are a little high, but that's what you get for a nice, quality dinner."

  • "We had a lovely meal at Spoon, in part to do the excellent and friendly service we received from our waiter, who was very well-informed. My soup was particularly good. Attention to local and seasonal ingredients is practiced. Cocktails were well-mixed. They had recently added a sommelier to the staff and that was apparent in the wine selection. One area that needs work is dessert. The surroundings are a bit staid: clean, modern, pleasant, but what I would describe as "suburban vanilla.""

  • "This was my third trip to Spoon and it was the best. I love that the menu changes periodically to keep it interesting. Many times I skip the bread to save room for dinner. Right away, forget that idea. I could dine alone on the cream cheese biscuits and the cornbread. Shear perfection and tastiness! Everyone we had was so delicious and well presented. Our server was excellent- exceeded our expectations. The bar staff was really friendly and helpful. Having said that every time we come I'm underwhelmed by their drink list. But they will make you anything you want and they have a good wine/beer selection. This place has gotten better and better. I highly recommend it. There is valet parking for $3."

The bacon-wrapped salmon and gorgonzola souffle are excellent, as is the wine list. The nouvelle cuisine-style cassoulet was a bit dry but tasty. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable. The one thing we didn't like was the restaurant's decor, which is a bit dark and a little shabby. Also the restaurant is a bit noisy."

  • "We had the wine pairing 5 course dinner for $100 per person. Every course was delicious with the exception of the chicken wings. I'm certainly not opposed to wings but these seemed especially disjointed with this dinner. They were just wings, not an elevation of any sort. All the wines were delicious and the pairings went well for the most part. The service was exceptional as was the smoked trout course and the beef course! I felt the pricing was fair."

  • "We love Spoon! I celebrated my 60th birthday here several years ago, and we have returned on several occasions. The menu has interesting choices, and everything is both beautifully prepared and presented. The services is excellent, sometimes bordering on a little too much attention. The atmosphere is classy, tasteful and quiet, and yet, as diners, we get the sense of liveliness from the place usually being full and busy that we like when we dine out. Portions are a nice size with none of that "plate over-loading" we see in some restaurants. Desserts are beautiful!"

  • "Spoon is one of my favorite spots "in the city". I go there often and prefer to sit at the bar, as they have two of the best bar tenders in town. However I was not impressed with my experience on Valentine's Day. It could be the fact that my date and I were stuck in the worst two seats they offer at Spoon (directly next to the door and crammed in against the wall with another guest sharing your fate two feet away). Or maybe it was the three course meal forced onto me (I prefer a small entrée and my weight in beverages on Friday evenings). Or perhaps the anxious staff eager to accommodate the next guest did me in. Either way I will be avoiding Spoon on popular holidays from here on. Outside of Valentine's day this place is usually money."

  • "We made reservations for 2 at 10:30PM the night of Valentines Day 2014! It was my first real date on Valentine's, I googled the top restaurants in Pittsburgh and this one had good reservation times available and good location, so we booked this place. After doing some research, I realized they probably have one of the best chefs in the country, so I expected the food to be excellent, and also a little expensive. However, I was pleased that they served American contemptorary type of food, so we booked it and the service was excellence, and the scene of the restaurant was perfect dining for a date, it made us feel like we were on vacation, it was very warm and comfortable, my girlfriend complain of being a little chilled, but I was fine!"

  • "I ate at spoon a few days ago with a friend. This was my fourth time and I have never been disappointed. When the waiter mentioned that you could have seared foie gras with any entree as an indulgence I immediately asked if I could get it as an appetizer. The chef created a special appetizer with seared foie gras over beef cheek and mashed potatoes and The sommelier came up with a very interesting and delicious wine which was a perfect match. The rest of the meal was just as notable with lamb chops over cheddar cheese polenta and a fabulous sauce. We did bring our own bottle of wine but ended up drinking one from their wine list also. A superb meal with service to match. This is now my go to restaurant when in pittsburgh."

  • "As long as you are not looking for traditional, this is the place to go! My friends and I could not decide so we ordered three meals and split them three ways - the pork roast, the chicken and the salmon wrapped with bacon. All three were very good, but the current chicken dish was spectacular and won all three first place votes! We all started with the Beet and Bleu Cheese salad/souffle that was terrific as well. Our service was excellent, food arrived in correct sequence, allowing us to enjoy our appetizer before meals came out. The only problem of the evening was luke warm coffee, that was corrected as soon as we mentioned it to our server."

  • "It was my first trip to Spoon and I was looking forward to a night of really good food, but it was quite disappointing. While the food was okay, it was described on the menu as if it were going to be awesome. It just did not live up to the descriptions and didn't have any flavors that called out to be remembered. Plating was pretty good, but it didn't make up for the hohum food. Thank goodness the service was good or the night would have been dreadful instead of an expensive mistake in a restaurant pretending to be something it isn't. The wine list is extensive but ridiculously expensive."
