  • "We hadn't been back to spoon in a while and were delighted with our experience. I loved my cocktail (though I'm blanking on the name - French something with gin and sparkling wine and peach bitters), and my companions thought the spoon take on a Pimms cup and martini were good if not spectacular. We ate outside in a tiny and charming courtyard, but despite being out of the main flow service was attentive. When we had wine questions, the waiter sent the wine steward who recommended the second least expensive wine amongst the Tempranillos and it was delicious and perfect with the mix of seafood and meat dishes. The grilled octopus salad and the bacon wrapped cod were amazing but everything we tried was delicious."

  • "Four of us had dinner last night and it was nothing to write home about. The pappardelle was under done. Which is hard to do being that it's fresh and also, it clumped together. A definite no no in a restaurant of this caliber. How did the chef let this go to the table?! We were all really excited and left feeling let down."

  • "It has been a while since we've been here so we thought to go again. We ordered the duo beef, scallops and halibut. We were very happy with our entrees and the service overall. However, the server could have been a little friendlier and at least explained the items on the menu. We asked what was the special of the day and she answered there was none and everything on the menu are special. Oh really?? We were a bit turned off by her answer without any explanation of the menu but otherwise everything were ok. The restaurant was quite empty. All the guests (6 tables) were seated only to the smaller side of restaurant. The atmosphere felt a bit uncomfortable for us. I doubt if we would come back though we did enjoyed our food."

  • "We went to Spoon for our anniversary and it was wonderful! We went all out, appetizers, wine, main course and desserts. Every aspect of the meal was fabulous. The server was attentive to our questions and offered great recommendations. The Spoon Bar dessert is amazing!"

  • "We were glad to finally try Spoon. The food was wonderful - nothing we were going to find on other menus, and that was impressive. The service seemed to be a little distracted. We were seated immediately, but had to wait 7 or 8 minutes before the hostess noticed we hadn't been visited by a server. She got us a drink, but it took at least another 8 or so minutes for our server to find us (even though he was serving the table next to ours & had visited them frequently), and I had the feeling we really didn't have his whole attention. Regrettably, this dampened our enthusiasm for our otherwise excellent dinner, and I'm sorry to say we won't be back."

Unfortunately, on our last visit, they were playing an annoying and very loud music track that made conversation at our table difficult, but the food was as good as we've come to expect."

  • "Based on reviews, we elected to dine at Spoon during a long weekend in Pittsburgh (our first visit to that city). Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals, particularly the duck dish (the rabbit pappardelle was a bit under seasoned). We would certainly recommend Spoon to others in turn."

  • "I had never been to Spoon until two weeks ago. My husband and I had dinner on two consecutive Saturdays. The food was so great the first time that we decided to bring out-of-town friends Sat. night. We love not only the food, but the atmosphere. The only complaint I have is that the staff needs to have a warmer and more welcoming disposition. On the first visit the server was a bit odd, but efficient. This past visit, the server was indifferent and even somewhat argumentative when questioned about a wine, and never once checked on us to see how our food was throughout our three course meal. For a place that obviously wants to present the total package, they need to ensure that their servers are up to par with the caliber of the restaurant."

  • "Great meal - everything was wonderfully prepared, presented and served. It was obvious that all the staff we encountered were trying hard to do an outstanding job. It was amazingly fast as well. We had a terrific grilled asparagus appetizer, simply lovely fresh green salads, and delicious duck and chicken entrees. Too full for dessert, but even an after-dinner cup of decaf was amazingly good. We can't wait to go back."

  • "The menu tries too hard, listing as many bold ingredients as possible for each dish. Yet somehow, the dishes come out very bland, with a just a few *odd* flavors thrown in. The Amberjack crudo was so tasteless it was simply a waste of fish. The scallops seemed to be seasoned with Old Bay, garnished with a foam that tasted like the chicken noodle powder in the cheap ramen you ate in college. The blue cheese souflé was just sort of a dull sludge pastry. Ew. The wines by the glass were all overpowering and sweet (in spite of being described otherwise by our server.) The service wasn't awful, but had a few fumbles. The decor is unappealing both inside and out. The only part of the meal we enjoyed was the bread basket, which is truly great."

  • "The menu and website made me worry that this place might be a little pretentious. Our experience was quite the opposite. The staff was helpful and friendly. The food was fantastic. The atmosphere was nice but not overbearing. Our group had 4 different appetizers, 4 different entrees, and 3 different desserts and all were winners. As far as I can tell, every dish might be fantastic - I guess I'll need to return to know for sure."

  • "Living very near, I have on occasion walked to this gem. The ambiance is very comfortable and relaxed. The menu is a comfortable size of a variety of appetizers and main entrees which are beautifully(and appetizingly)presented ----not a plate overloaded with food! The wait staff is attentive and efficient. The salmon was cooked to perfection(not overdone) and simply delicious as were the quinoa, fruit and arugula accompanying it."

  • "Our party of three enjoyed conversation as we dined early and the restaurant was quiet. Tables are far enough apart to keep noise level to a moderate level. Started with the blue cheese soufflé with a small salad and then had the duck breast as an entrée. Both were delicious and an appropriate sized serving. The lime tart dessert was okay. The sorbet and meringue that came with it were terrific. The tart tasted of the condensed milk recipe and became to gelatinous."

  • "For the price, I expected better. The bread was good, but the dish combinations didn't make a lot of sense and flavors didn't complement each other well. For the NY price, I would expect NY quality, but it was lacking. Not that the food was bad, it was just confusing."

  • "Breadbasket-many have noted-w/ mini cornbread, cream cheese biscuits & house baked baguette-really sets stage for what's to come. Had steak tartare, rabbit confit--ramps on the side--yum. I like how they feature one ingredient-English peas for now-across a variety of dishes, and how many of the dishes have two preparations of the same item (duck breast and sausage, e.g.). Cheese plate post dinner-delicious. Use of small, local farm goods show appreciation for sustainable agriculture. Very quiet, unassuming yet elegant ambiance; friendly, knowledgeable service. I am guessing the menu has some staple items but may be replete in changing based on seasonal availability of produce and other ingredients. I'll be back for sure."

  • "I was disappointed. I got the walleye for an app which wasnt bad, and the burger for dinner and it was overdone and very dry. My girlfriend got fluke and it was so salty she couldnt eat it. The best part was the cream cheese biscut. My waiter never smiled and wasn't welcoming. The ambiance and overall set up was cool looking though. "

  • "We were first here two years ago when visiting Pittsburgh, and we were amazed. So when we were back this week, there was no question about where we wanted to have dinner. The food was wonderful from the delicious bread basket to the presentation, portion size, and wonderful flavors of the food. And the cocktails were more than impressive, particularly the bartender's tasting menu. But what makes this spot most enjoyable is the staff. We (again) sat at the bar, and the bartender elevated the experience even further. She was enthusiastic about the food and drink, was attentive but not intrusive, and was clearly enjoying her job. This great place is not to be missed if you are in Pittsburgh!!"

  • "This was for Mother's Day brunch. Fruit plate & shrimp & grits were wonderful starters. My parents ordered crab omelettes with avocado salad; both were very pleased. Plenty of sweet crab, and avocado was a nice contrast.Torn between the ancho crusted pork tenderloin and short rib hash, I chose the latter, and regretted it. The beef was tender, and the eggs were perfectly runny. However, the potatoes were undercooked, it was all a bit underseasoned, and there was entirely too much of the tomato hollandaise. With the eggs, it became a big gloppy mess. We finished with the lime + coconut dessert, which had a lot going on, and all of it fantastic. Service was outstanding. Robbie was friendly and attentive, but never obtrusive. Well done."
