This was our second time here. First time my husband took me for my birthday. No one did anything or said anything for my birthday. That was frustrating. Also, the server changed the tip amount and gave herself a significant amount extra. Anything we asked for seemed like a fight. This second occasion was for my dad's birthday. Again we put that on the reservation and no one did or said a thing about it. It seems like staff thinks just so long as they do the service that is outlined for them, they do not have to do anything beyond. So what the customer might request doesn't seem to matter. Very frustrating. I doubt I will be back for any celebration and the food was not quite as good this time as last time.

The menu was unique and inventive, as well as delicious. Our main server was relaxed and informative, but two others assisting were rather timid and difficult to hear/understand. Beware: we only drank water and one coffee, but the bill was $280 for two!

Good Food, unfortunately it smells like fish when you walk in. I think its cause they make the FUME in house for sauces etc. It does not smell like smelly fish it smells like cooked fish bones, but thats because i know what they smell like being a chef, but the people i was with didn't even wanna sit down they thought it smelled like fish. the food superb, service a bit slow on a slow night. We felt kinda rushed and im a big snob, i go to restaurants to be served and be served well, we chefs believe we can make everything better at home so the reason we go out to eat is to be served and be served well. I will come back because the food was excellent, but please do something about the smell for my wife's sake and her fiends &dont rush !

It was divine. We loved it. We will definitely go back. The first plates were the best: the fennel salad was crisp, light. I might have preferred it after my entrée. We loved the octopus first plate. It was a complete surprise. If I go back, I will order the octopus as my entrée, and the fennel salad afterward. It was delicious. The wine list had great selections. Loved that the restaurant was small, minimalist with a limited menu and wine list. The service was unobtrusive, timely, professional in every way. We would go back, and would encourage others to try it. The food presentation was artful. We were given little muffins to have for breakfast the next morning as a parting gift. Now wasn't that something?

I saw a list that showed this as the #6 best restuarant in Dallas. It was good, but I struggle to put it that high on the list, although I haven't eaten at all the others. The fish my girlfriend ordered medium came out rare. The server said they would cook it more, but rather another piece of fish was served, cooked the same way as the first. In addition, it was overly salted for our taste. They didn't charge us for the fish or her dessert, but it was still kind of disappointing. I had the skate, which was good but not great, and the mashed potatoes they served were nothing special either. Everyone can have a bad day, and maybe this was one of theirs.

Very glad we chose this spot for a quiet birthday dinner. The chef's tasting menu made it a memorable dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed every course - and the muffins for breakfast. The menu lists 6 courses, I counted 10. Remember, it is a tasting menu of many small courses, but still, it is a lot of food. Sitting at the kitchen bar means you get your food instantly, but unless you are over 5'5", you are not going to see much. My husband could see the action, I mostly saw floating heads. However, everyone was very pleasant, and my question to the chef was politely and completely answered (I made sure I did not ask at a "frantic" moment). If you want a dinner you will not forget, the Chef's Tasting Menu at Spoon is highly recommended!

We dined at Spoon for my birthday dinner - just the two of us. We were blown away! The ambiance was modern yet romantic. The waiter was incredibly attentive, informative of wine/food pairing, and pleasantly genuine. The food was fresh and innovative. We had the octopus, cuttlefish and yellowtail trio to start with a flute of champagne. Scallops and prawns paired with a crisp white for dinner. And nearly four rounds of dessert! Try the violet mousse sorbet. The waiter escorted us to the door when we left with an additional, complimentary treat to take home. Can't wait to go back, such a memorable experience.

I had a very disappointing experience at Spoon, but, to be fair, my husband enjoyed his meal. I did not order oysters or crudo and waited one hour and 20 minutes for my first bite of food! And I didn't care for it -a cold preparation of fennel and Parmesan that didn't have much flavor besides salt. I couldn't eat it (although my husband finished it for me and liked it). Entree finally arrived - swordfish. Over-cooked, nothing special. Seems as though if the dish is described as accompanied by toasted quinoa, there might be more than ten actual grains of quinoa on the plate! But I was hungry, so probably an over reaction. Dessert was good, but tiny (again, I was hungry). Service was okay, but oblivious to our timing issues.

Over-all a good restaurant experience, but prices seem excessive, especially considering the portions. Waitstaff very friendly with excellent service. It would be a place I would frequent more often if menu choices were not so limited and prices more reasonable. Restaurant only half full on Friday night, even though food was good and service excellent. Perhaps others feel the menu items are over-priced as well.

We heard great things about this restaurant and liked the menu online. But when we showed up we were told they only offer two prix fixe (tasting) menus now, with only a few items a la carte. The food was decent, the wine pairings were uninspired, the service was transactional, not overly communicative nor engaged. But mostly we want be back because the empty restaurant confirms...the prix fixe ain't the way to go!

My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner at Spoon. The food was truly flawless. Service and decor was very good. We love seafood and you should, too if you want to eat here because that was all that was on the menu, therefore the only downside to Spoon is that there is not a large variety on the menu. Love the iPads for selecting your bar and wine items. We will definitely return!!

I am not a seafood lover by any means, but I went here with a group that is completely into seafood. After eating here, I officially love fish. It was so amazing. The waitress helped me pick a dish that would not be too 'strong' for someone who does not know different types of fish and was so helpful. I can't wait to go back soon! I definitely recommend the lobster appetizer.

Spoon was disappointing from start to finish. It was a Tuesday, no one was there, it feel awkward dining in an empty restaurant. The waitress was a bit pushy, repeatedly asking us if we were ready to order. We looked at the menu online before choosing this restaurant & knew what we wanted already. However, we were presented with only two options: a 5 or 8 course tasting menu. When we inquired about the online menu she said the chef changed the menu, but if we wanted just an entree we had 4 options of fish ($42 for a piece of swordfish!) & it came with boring carrots & greenbeans. We ordered the Singapore chili lobster for an app and it was a small bowl w/a few lumps of meat for $25. Everything was VERY salty. We won't be returning.

My wife and I enjoyed a romantic dinner at Spoon. Our waiter and sommelier were very attentive and informative. Since it was a special occasion we decided on the tasting menu. The clams and scallops were perfectly prepared and flavorful. The lobster was undercooked. The swordfish is perhaps the softest, juiciest most flavorful pieces of swordfish I have ever been served. Would highly recommend the swordfish!!! Unfortunately, the tasting menu ended with the uni pasta. While I did not mind the uni, my wife was not a fan. I am not sure that such a polarizing entre is a good way to end a tasting menu. The tapioca and chocolate espresso desserts were beautifully presented and tasted great.

A highly touted relatively new restaurant with a limited item menu. Overall the food was excellent, however, personally, I don't feel like the cooks needed to add salt to EVERYTHING. The salt overpowered a couple of items on the menu and it wasn't necessary when your food is already being served with some sort of sauce. I couldn't taste the dressing of my salad because of all the salt that was put on it...same with my scallops. Salt should be added at the discretion of the taster and not the cook. Our service was excellent. The restaurant is small so recommend making reservations. The crudo is a nice way to begin your meal. They offer a pasta item without seafood that is incredible - I hated to share it!

Didn't have as much space to write the full review. Summary, drinks were fantastic, as were the cheeses. Loved the butterfly effect and gimlet cocktails. I would go back for the bar. Food was severely lacking flavor on all of our entrees. Maybe the technique was to not use seasoning to let the food stand out, but the food ingredients had no flavor. The fluke and the salmon crudos were completely tasteless. The 'kimchi' pancake prawns had a little kimchi in the butter, and in the pancake and as side was green steamed cabbage. The sturgeon was fair, a little salt would have gone a long way. The salted caramel pre-dessert was on the verge of too salty, wish that salt was on our entrees. Diver scallop was delicious, our favorite.

Ross has taken control of the lead position on the line and the food is fabulous as always. Everything about the meal, from the perfect execution of cooking technique to plating to the excellent service was spot on. The Singapore Lobster, Yellowtail Crudo, Scallops and the Sole....perfect in all possible ways. The surprise of the evening was finding a delicious white Pinot Noir to accompany the feast. One of my favorite wine lists with frequent updates and surprises and something for every budget! Truly the best dining experience in town. We'll be back soon.

Chef John Tesar has developed a 'fit for foodies' spot. The menu is innovative and appealing, even wanting you to try items you may not in other restaurants, out of pure curiosity. Made reservations in advance for "Lobster Sunday", yet only to be informed that they did not have any lobsters available for the evening, with no further explanation. In addition, when provided with menus after being seated for nearly 20 minutes, over half of the items (both appetizers and entrees) were noted as sold out for the evening. The appetizers and entrees we ordered were fantastic, but overall a regrettable dining experience.

I really cannot find anything negative to say about this restaurant. I have now been to dinner twice and lunch twice. My most recent visit for dinner was just exceptional! It had been a while since I've been in, only because I've been either traveling or dieting, so it seemed all new again! My friend and I shared a variety of oysters and crudo and thought we had died and gone to heaven. Then she had Cuttlefish and I had the simple Char. Outstanding! Her cocktail was a green gin something I can't remember the name but it was great! My Rose' by the glass was delish! We can't wait to go again and try the other items on the menu. It will take a few trips but we will get it done! Our server Jason was so professional and so nice. Thanks!

We would not recommend this restaurants to anyone. The waitress had a snooty attitude from the start. She acted put out because my husband wanted to know what craft beer they served. Her answer was "We aren't much of a beer place." The appetizers were inedible. We returned the octopus which was too tough to eat. The entrees were ok. We wanted to leave as fast as we could. We haven't ever been treated so poorly while paying for a meal and the worst part, we left hungry. We were not made to feel welcome. We have too many restaurants to try to come back to a place that seems to forget they need the customers to be a continuing success.
