The restaurant has several unique dining experiences including a built in raw bar, with a Chef's Counter, banquette tables and booths in the main dining room, a Chef's Table in the Wine Room and an interactive Kitchen Counter where you can watch the live action in the Kitchen.

Diner Reviews
  • "Wined and dined a client at Spoon a few nights ago. The space is gorgeous. The food is almost as stunning but slightly misses its mark. The first course options we tried were delicious and I ncluded sashimi, scallop and octopus. The main course options did not impress me in comparison to other restaurant options at same price point. I splurged and had the lobster. I cannot recommend it. The peach dessert was fantastic but the vanilla dessert was ok. The best way I can describe the food overall is good but not post-it-on-Facebook delicious. The service was the deciding factor for my experience. Our waitress was condescending and rude for no apparent reason. I was embarrassed for her and surprised the owners have her in a waitstaff role."

  • "Wonderful food and even better service the sommelier is is as knowledgable of wines as she is pleasant and personal. She paired each course we had with perfect wine."

  • "Menu is very limited, no salads, if you have people in your party that do not like fish go somewhere else. We got eaten alive by mosquitoes - no joke. Overall there are much better fish and seafood places, especially given the prices."

  • "The ladies with me could not select a wine so tasting were supplied of three wines for them to decide. Very nicely done."

  • "Tried the 6 course tasting menu. 3 of the 6 items were under-cooked and one of the items, (cuttle fish), was uncomfortably chewy, felt like I was eating fishy sinew. The item flavors were interesting and inventive unfortunately item execution failed. On the positive side: we loved the skate course and the desserts were outstanding. The service was great, very polished, efficient without being rushed. Nice but slightly overpriced wine list. I had a great Manhattan - yum! Overall, we had fun. The tasting menu price is similar to other top-restaurants tasting menus but it seemed very pricey for such a weak attempt. This time the kitchen let the rest of the restaurant down. We probably won't return."

  • "We had been wanting to go to Spoon for quite some time and finally decided to go to celebrate a new job offer. We had the tasting menu and every bite was perfection. I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants delicious and unique seafood dishes."

  • "The chef's tasting menu and wine pairing was decadent, perfect for what we were looking for on the eve of our anniversary. Beginning with a tuna tartar amuse bouche, like butter, our palates were readied for a variety of tastes and textures to follow. Our live diver scallop, served with a brown butter and truffle sauce, literally melted in our mouths. The Maya prawns with kimchee was both unexpected and delicious and had a great kick. Pace yourselves if you go this route because the portion sizes are generous and the final course before desert, the arctic char is divine with a perfect pea puree. Added bonus, we picked the half booth just behind the chef's table and it was perfect! One of the best food experiences we've had in some time."

  • "My wife and I tried this quaint little gem the other night and found their seafood mastery and culinary pairing to be gastronomically fantastic. The refreshing fennel salad was a perfect starter to prepare the palette for the delicious arctic Char. The service too was spot on with just the right attentiveness and appropriate interventions. We'll be back soon."

  • "Excellent experience. Very creative, different, and refreshing seafood creations."

  • "Our only regret was that we couldn't do the tasting menu because we had another appointment. From the moment we entered the restaurant we felt well cared for. The seafood was skillfully prepared exactly to our likely. Many of the preparations are unique and represent John Tesar's iconic style. We sat at the chef's bar - and I only wish I was taller (or less stuff was on the bar) so we could have gotten a better view. But it was great fun! Wines are a bit on the pricey side (3-4x retail markup)."

  • "I tried to avoid the dishes that notable reviewers had panned but still ran into inconsistency among the "safe" choices during our visit. The sturgeon/pork belly entree was good as advertised, and the snail appetizer was very good, but the geoduck and yellowtail crudos suffered from quality and execution issues, and the skate was crispified to the point where I had to saw through it with a regular knife (usually fish knives are suitable for skate); the accompanying tomato compote was extremely bland. I gave two stars for service because our waiter was preoccupied with an adjacent large party and two starts for ambience because our booth was incredibly sunken from one too many large posteriors and it was in dire need of replacement padding."

  • "Exquisite food in small bites with several complimentary courses, including an amuse bouche, a pre-dessert, and, with the check, a little muffin to take home for breakfast. Expensive but well worth it."

  • "Expected more given the hype. It was ok but not amazing. I did try two obscure wines which was probably the highlight of the meal."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner; we've both been wanting to try it. The service and food was great! I would definitely go back and also recommend to friends. They even brought out a special birthday treat for us and the pb&j macaroon was delicious! I could've had 10 more of those! Great Experience overall!"

  • "I thought the food was great....Was surprised at the formica covered tables and large horse shoe bar in center of restaurant. Was not the ambiance I was expecting for such an expensive restaurant."

  • "We have been to Spoon twice now and loved it each time. There are so many great items, try to order as many different things as you can and share among the table. Loved the crudo trio especially the yellow tail with grapefruit. Although not seafood, we loved the truffle pasta - you can get a half order and share as a side dish."

  • "Service was impeccable. The food was amazing and worth the visit. Absolutely off the charts. The "chefs table" is a concept I dont think they execute well and should be avoided. You can't see over it into the kitchen due to a high bar wall and its completely obvious the staff doesnt want you there with the turned backs and sideways glances. Nothing was ever said or made known, but there was an air of passive aggressiveness that made things uncomfortable. Got a great view of the heat lamps, vulcan broilers and commercial vent hoods. I thought it was a rare option to be presented with when we arrived and jumped at the chance to see the masters at work, but being seated at the regular tables would have been more enjoyable."

  • "Chef Tesar truly is genius. Beyond beautiful and delicious food found here. Every course amazed and delighted us in every way. We had starters, salad and entrees, as I had done the chef's tasting menu before and it is a lot of food! We chose the spicy chili lobster and soft shell crab for starters, the heirloom tomato salad, and our entrees were arctic char and seared scallops. We elected to have the sommelier pair wines with our courses. Our waiter was superb... extremely knowledgeable and suggested we share the first three dishes, which were presented to our table beautifully. He then divided them onto our plates for us. This is memorable dining for special occasions. Foodies rejoice!"

  • "The overall experience is one of gastronomic delight. The wine list is excellent. This is a small but lovely place tucked away on a side street. Portions are small but delectable."

  • "We had the tasting menu with another couple and two of us ordered the wine pairings and once again Spoon delivers like no other in the metroplex. At least three courses were the best version of that seafood I have experienced and the wine pairings were so good I have already attempted to track down three of the wines to enjoy at home. Spoon continues to be the best Seafood in Dallas period."

  • "Server was rushed, haughty and seemed irked she had to serve us. Curt answers to questions asked. Not forth-coming about menu. No follow up on satisfaction during meal. Toward end of meal, My dinner companion was finished. My plate was about half full. I was still eating. In fact, I was still chewing my food. She came to clear table. Asked if I was finished. After I swallowed, I told her I was still eating. She asked if we wanted dessert."

  • "There is no restaurant in Dallas even close to matching the quality of Spoon. The food is unbelievable, service impeccable. You should only ever order the tasting menu, it's incredibly well portioned, and diverse, and they time every step perfectly. "

  • "Disappointment is the only word that can describe the food I encountered at Spoon Bar & Kitchen. No where near the price paid for the evening. Just a total shock to experience such sub par food. The highlight of the evening was the Angel's Envy Rye, the only thing with any flavor."

  • "My wife, son and I dinned on May 24, 2014 to celebrate a family occasion. We made reservation for 8:00pm but did not get seated till 8:20pm. We waited 30 minutes from the time appetizers/salad was served to the time entre was served. They were not that busy. Sampler Crudo was average. Seafood was good but not the freshest that we have ever had. Asparagus with morel mushroom salad was a little bland. Sturgeon Pork Belly was way overcooked making the fish very tough. Sauce was very average with too much butter. Seems like that only sauce in this dish was clarified butter. Another bland dish. Squid ink dish was very similar to Sturgeon Pork Belly dish, too much clarified butter with bland seasonings. Soft shell crab in this dish was oily. "

  • "We loved the modern Americanized interpretation of traditional Korean ingredients. Everything we ordered this evening was fabulous and the service was equally pleasurable. The beer and wine list wasn't diluted and vast but very concise and poignant. Couple that with fun dining conversations...win-win-win. "

  • "Spoon is easily the best seafood restaurant in Dallas, by far. Tesar has adopted some of the NY dishes and even improved on some of them. The pounded Tuna with Fois Gras is phenomenal, the Uni and squid ink is above the rim amazing, and the skate wing is my favorite thing to eat in Dallas. I think the wine list is too slanted towards Old World, but that is more of a personal preference. Sit in front of the Kitchen for a fun experience. "

  • "After reading the many positive reviews and top ratings, I had to go see for myself what the hype was all about. Everything I read was true! Great reception from the host set the tone for our delicious evening that was ahead. Our table was in the back parallel to the kitchen and bar. I wasn't sure at first if this would be too loud, but it was ok. The Diver Scallops literally melted in my mouth. The lobster tagatelle dish is now in my top three all time dishes list! Of course we were stuffed and did not order dessert. However the bonus dessert with baby portions of a variety was perfect! Take the time and your pocketbook to experience a mouth full of yumminess. You will thank me tomorrow!"

  • "The service, the food, the setting were all great and that should be expected when the bill for a party of totals more than $300. Drinks were two glasses of wine and two beers. I would go back for a special occasion but wonder if Spoon is two times better than places like Dean Fearings"

  • "Lobster pot pie was unbeleiveable, arriving in a huge copper pot with puff pastry. Wonderful flavors full of lobster in a light butter/cream/herb sauce...huge portion, could easily be split for 2. The skate wing was also delightful as well as singapore style appetizer. This is the absolute best gourmet fresh seafood in town."
