My wife was DELIGHTED with the personalized menus and the wait staff all wished her a Happy Birthday. Being out of towners we weren't really familiar with the Des Moines restaurant scene so we were delighted that several locals recommended Splash. We were even more delighted that the food struck a perfect chord on our foodie strings. We also thought it was very reasonably priced. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about the entire menu, even on the cocktails, and very enthusiastically answered all of our questions. We started out with Oysters Rockafeller and on the half shell, followed by PEI Mussels. We both had grilled scallops which were done to perfection! The mashed sweet potatoes were just as tasty and brussel sprouts divine!
We ordered a higher end dry red wine (A Petite Syrah I believe.) and were not disappointed. It was fabulous and the wine list was extensive! We did get a little help with our selection...
The thing we discussed later, was that it would have been nice to have had a salad with our entree'. It was available for purchase, but thought that maybe it would be a nice addition--a small dinner salad. ; )4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly a Special PlaceWe've been to Splash numerous times and are never disappointed. This trip was no different. In fact, our daughter's 4th birthday dinner (and first "fancy restaurant dinner") there was easily our best experience yet. Our table was not only exactly where we requested (near the fish tanks), but it was adorned with ocean confetti and personalized birthday menus. What a treat. Service was exceptional, patient, and kind. The food was glorious, memorable, and perfectly executed.

The atmosphere was special, the service was very good, and the food quite delicious. It was a really enjoyable evening with outstanding food and service. After reading the review in the Datebook I wondered if this reviewer had eaten in the same place as we did. There is nothing we could say that was anything but excellent about our experience at Splash. I would recommend it to anyone wanting an outstanding evening of very well prepared seafood. After reading several recent reviews by the Datebook "expert" it is obvious he/she is interested only in being controversial believing it will further their career. Just the fact that it's so close to the Civic Center so we can be parked and good to go is great. We all had clam chowder and salads at our most recent visit - all was delicious. Over the many times we've dined with you, the wait staff has been efficient, attentive and friendly, the food is always delicious and if we have special needs those are accomodated promptly. The oysters were especially fresh, and the coarsely grated horseradish in vinegar perfect. We had the roasted calamari salad--the calamari was sweet and tender, not rubbery, and the mix of vegetables and amount of tangy dressing well balanced. For entrees we had the swordfish in mustard sauce and the opakapaka, a Hawaiian pink snapper I tasted for the first time. Delicious, and the vegetables--an Asian slaw, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus were well-prepared as always. We skip the potatoes.
