Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant was a wonderful find. Open table made it very easy to make reservations. The food was very flavorful and fresh. The service was right on and the owner very attentive. Definitely would go back. I gave it a 4 star because of its limited beer and wine list."

  • "Good was good but was too mild for my taste and I have had better a few blocks down. Example, the chicken malai tikka was moist and nicely cooked but had no spice. And the beer selection was very limited."

  • "Attentive but not overbearing staff, forthcoming with recommendations, led to an enjoyable and tasty dinner. Found portions to be a bit on the large side so would recommend sharing fewer at first and then if really still hungry order a bit more. Would especially recommend the Tandoori prepared lamb chops: moist and flavorful."

  • "We had dinner at Spice Symphony in early June. The experience was outstanding. Our waiter, Manor (?) led us through the menu and helped us select a truly Indian meal, complete with several appetizers and 3 main course selections that we shared. We will definitely be back!"

  • "The Indian food menu in my opinions were superior than their Chinese menu, perhaps they were looking more of a fusion place but the Chicken Tikki Masala definitely tasted better than the Spicy Chicken that I had"

  • "We had a dinner on a Friday night. Interior is more modern than any other Indian restaurant. We had chicken popstick appetizer (juicy), salmon tikka (nicely cooked) and lamb dhaniwal korma (meat didn't taste like lamb, but really good sauce). Decent white wine. Accommodating service. Overall a good find in the neighborhood."

  • "Enjoyed their food very much. Although the price of each dish is reasonable, with sides, it adds up quickly becoming more around $35-40 per person (excluding dessert). Staff was very attentive and professional."

  • "I've been here twice and both times service was extremely slow. My lunch break is only an hour and it took them 40 minutes to bring out my food. Meanwhile, I see takeout leaving the restaurant rapidly."

  • "The food was excellent an the service was prompt and friendly. Everything tasted very authentic and would definitely return."

  • "My family chose Spice Symphony to celebrate my mom's 75th Birthday and we were a large party of 11. We are all foodies that grew up in the restaurant business in Detroit. Hands down, this is the best Indian restaurant I have ever experienced. Everything we tried from the appetizers to dessert was excellent and so flavorful and unique! The service was some of the best I have ever experienced also. Every time I come to NYC I will be visiting Spice Symphony from now on!"

  • "We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and luckily through Open Table we were able to secure two tables for my Mom's 75th birthday. We all (including the non-indian food lovers) LOVED our meal choices. Everyone agreed this was our best dinner in NYC. Service was outstanding. The maitre D' actually ordered a birthday torte for my mom (without being asked) and surprised us with this- on the house! Truly a memorable dinner, we will surely come back and recommend Spice Symphony to all of our friends. "

  • "visited Spice Symphony on Friday night. Atmosphere was great. Staff couldn't be more helpful/friendly. We are from Scotland, i asked for lemonade in my wine (i realise i should have asked for sprite) and they replaced my wine free of charge. We also got a sample of a starter before our own starters & main courses arrived. Which was delicious and a nice touch. This is also the only restaurant we have been to in NYC that doesn't state amount to tip at the bottom of the bill. We tipped the highest in here than we have done all trip. The manager / owner got talking to my partner once we had paid the bill and he was interested that we were from Scotland. We got married while visiting NYC and he insisted that we take a complimentary dessert!! "

  • "We were a group of six people who visited the restaurant after reading good reviews on Tripadvisor, and we were not disappointed. First of all, the service was outstanding! We all had different entrees, and everybody had a good experience. The nan-bread and the papadums were also very good. We had wine to drink, which is the only thing I would reconsider for my next visit at this restaurant."

  • "Found this place as an Opentable points value. Chose to go because it was convenient. Was very pleasantly suprised by the ambiance, service, and quality. Made for an excellent date night, and I had enough left over for a satisfying dinner the next night as well. Will definitely return."

  • "We were a large group and everyone enjoyed the food. Food was appropriately spicy, the meat properly done and breads appropriately roasted. I would definitely go again."

  • "The food was very good and the staff was very attentive. At times a bit too attentive. I felt rushed to order our food, as we first wanted to have some appetizers and then order the entrees, but I think the staff got the hang of it. Will go back there again! Pricing not too bad for NYC either."

  • "Excellent food. Subtle spices, perfectly cooked. Would go back and back."

  • "Spice Symphony was quick to seat our group once we all arrived and provided consistently great service throughout the evening for our group of 7. The reservation had only been for 6 but they quickly adapted the table to accommodate us. We had a very talkative group and our server was very patient while getting our orders in between conversations. The food was also excellent and everyone left happy. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a unique fusion of Indian and Chinese cuisine."

  • "Perhaps the choice for this restaurant wasn't the best suited for our party on this particular night - we had just finished working out and were starving. Was excited about the menu - was provided a small amuse bouche which we devoured and then sipped on our water for probably 45 minutes wondering where our food was. When our food finally arrived it was delicious. I understand it takes a while to cook, but with other places being faster, it may be hard to compete in my mind and the slow speed would just be the reason I wouldn't make it my first pick. But if you're willing to wait, I'd definitely recommend it. Desserts were also delicious with a good selection."

  • "We were amazed at the fantastic food, superb service, and the overall experience. We dine frequently at Indian restaurants in NY, Chicago, London and elsewhere. This it well over the top. Their samoza was the best I have ever had, including ones straight from a bakery in Nairobi, Kenya. There will be stars in the future for this amazing place and its chef and staff. Kudos to all."

  • "My partner and i have been to this restaurant twice now, and we have been so impressed with the quality anf taste of the food. We particularly enjoy the indochinese food which is harder to find than punjabi food and so delicious. I lived in india for 6 months and this is the only place i have found with indochinese food that really lives up to what it should be!!!!! Thanks spice symphony!!!"

  • "Choice was good, typical Indian, fresh naan bread. Only two minor cons - the chicken didn't seen to be full breast (a bit tough) and the restaurant was very cold. However we would go back"

  • "My friend and I asked the server for recommendations and we were so pleased -- avocado chicken was delicious. The service was wonderful. We'll be back."

  • "Food is very good. On this evening, however, service was only fair. It took over 20 minutes for someone to come over to take our order. Also, the restaurant was quite cold and drafty. We ate with our hats and scarves on. That being said, it has an interesting menu, and all of our dishes were quite good, so will probably give it another try."

  • "Must get Samosas Chaat. We dubbed them Indian nachos. Potato samosas covered with tamarind sauce, yogurt, tomatoes, onions, cilantro. Delish!!!!! Service very attentive. At times overly so, but we had a good laugh about it. A wonderful dining experience"

  • "Excellent food, and very friendly. The tables are very small, and the plates are very large. An awkard combination . If we had ordered more, there would be no place to put it!"

  • "I've been to spice symphony 3 times. The first two times were amazing and I couldn't stop telling people about it. The food delicious. The service amazing. I really feel as if the staff cared about your meal and they were very conscious of the level of spice in your dish. This last time however is making me debate about going back or not. I always order the chicken vindaloo. It's always spicy but not to the point where you can't enjoy it. This time it felt as if the dish was missing something. It definitely was not spicy, and that's the whole point of ordering a vindaloo dish. Usually we LOVE the garlic naan. This time it was cold and tasted like raw garlic."

  • "Went to this spice symphony before seeing kinky boots and just loved this place. The food was outstanding- we ordered things we could not get anywhere else (and could not make ourselves) all tasted great and had just enough spice. The owner waited on us and told us all about his food helping us make good choices. The atmosphere was just as great as the food-small dining room /tables (but this is New York City!) Wish I had this place back home -Washington DC_"

  • "Went with a group and we really enjoyed it. We stuck to the Indian portion of the menu and the food was excellent - our favs were palak paneer, shrimp briyani, and chicken vindaloo. The staff was friendly, and service was great. Will definitely go back!"

  • "The key is the greeting at the door Prem & Jude were splendid in their hospitality and charm to make us feel comfortable prior to being seated at the table The restaurant is well done and just the right amount of seats. We had a few drinks at the bar which were served very quickly The wine pairing by Chad was excellent and showed keen interest in the right food combination While the quality of food was impeccable so was the presentation. Certainly a place to visit again"
